I like it, but in my opinion theres not enough condi application in the build. The main source of damage of a condi build is lots and lots of bleed stacks, and you’re being too reliant on SB being able to give you constant damage. For instance, when you’re stuck in S/D, you do have a lot of evades but your dps goes plummeting down. For improvement, I dont think you need THAT much condi removal, you can replace WS GM trait with poison master, which you have 3 applications of poison, which will greatly increase your poison damage when you swap to S/D. I can see the greatness in this build however, it has natural tankiness plus lots and lots of condi removal and evades, it’ll be a great bunker hybrid if played correctly.

So I’ve dived back into sPvP on my ranger and I’m brining back one of my past successful builds that I run in sPvP. It goes something like this

It’s a BM Condi build that specializes in 1v1 engages and is great for burning down far bunkers with constant condi application and the various evades that the Sword and the Dagger give you in both weapon sets plus LR on your utility slots. I’m using one of the new GM traits, poison master to supplement the poison inherent in two of your weapons and new poison given to your pets. That means you have 4 applications of poison and should reduce healing on your opponent even with heavy condi removal.

However, the build has its own defects, such as absolutely 0 condi removal by itself. It’s something that I’ve been fretting over and I can not figure out a way to incorporate into the build.

In addition, I can find a certain niche that the build can apply to in high level play. I like to hover between home and mid, supporting and going as the battle goes, but the build really only shines in 1v1 engages at least so I think.

Feel free to try it out and give me feedback! Also if its a complete bust, don’t be too harsh on me please! Its just something I figured would work well. Any and All feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve always ran Sword/Warhon and GS or Longbow depending on if you need to range the boss (HotW troll) or other bosses. Obviously zerker gear is the way to go and the only required traits are spotter and some points to take Spirits (Frost Spirit). Otherwise you can take RaO for maximum dps but other than that, I haven’t heard of much…

Can anyone add on to that? I’m curious too

I’ll definitely look into this, and bring up all of these builds with my suite-mate, who’s actually going to put the computer together with me. Regarding the monitor, I don’t have one, but I do have a keyboard and mouse so that should be around another 100 bucks total I think. However, I’m sure I could scrap up that money to do so.

As for space, I prefer to have a smaller case, as I do live in an university so I’ll take that into thought with these builds as well.

And for the Operating system, I think my School’s engineering department gives me a free copy of Windows 8 for all of the engineerings (Chemical Engineerings FTW) but I’m not totally sure for that. However, if the entire computer (just the internal parts) costs less than 1000 dollars, I’ll definitely be fine.

I also realize that 1000 dollars is not that high of a budget, but at least the computer I build will be better than getting my new Macbook Pro (2000 dollars) up to 80 degrees Celsius every time I start GW2 ahah. I’d rather spend 1000 than break a 2000 dollar computer you know?

Hello everyone!

I’m thinking of upgrading from this Macbook Pro (2013) to an actual desktop PC. In order to do so, I raised $1,000 (note I’m in college and that was not an easy task) to use to build this new pc. I want to be able to run GW2 at high settings and be able to start streaming if I wanted to as well. Does anyone have any suggestions for parts (importantly, the video card, CPU/GPU, etc) that I should buy?

I’ve been looking at the GTX 760 for a Video card, but I have no idea for CPU. Also, I would prefer to be SSD because I’ve heard its basically night and day between SSD and the old system.

Any suggestions would be awesome, and if I need to spend more more, just let me know so I can start saving more!

I actually have a lot of respect for it and in my opinion, it was easier than last years. However, a year of playing does add a lot to your ability to jump correctly so I may be a biased source.

Hey, I’m using a Macbook Pro 15" Retina Display and after the patch, Black lion has either been not working at all or just loading. Either way, I can’t use the Trading Post which is really frustrating. Is this happening to anyone else?

Also, on my friend computer, Black lion is working perfectly, but I have a Mac so that may be the cause and the reason why I posted on this sub-forum

Ive found that Draconic gloves and boots, HOTW Pants and shoulders, and Dark chestplate (From WVW) works very well.

So I absolutely love Erza. She’s probably one of my favorite heroines out of all the animes and I really want to make my new warrior look like her. Can someone help me out here? She has lots of different armor sets, but I’m thinking Heavenly Wheel. Can anyone do it?

what do you mean beast master, I thought your traits were 10/0/30/30/0? Also, true that a defensive playstyle would benefit from the evade of the sword, however I meant instead of Axe/torch take shortbow. That way, you dont have to wait to unleash “burst” condition damage, but have it on him all the time.

It just seems to me that you’re relying on condition damage a lot but the thing is you only have 1251 condition damage. I like Kasama’s idea of using a trap because esp in 2-10 man fights, you want to have aoe damage along with a fire field to blast off of. So I was thinking shortbow with flame trap instead of Axe/torch and signet of the wild. Or if you want to do beastmaster ranger, try putting point into the last skill line and take away the healing points in the runes and take another stat.

I like the weapons, but I’m kinda confused on why you would utilize conditions when you have a sword/horn combo. Both those weapons are better off power weapons. Also in my opinion short now would works so much better with condition duration because of its constant bleed when attacking from the side or the back. The axe torch just doesn’t have that much potential.

I like the new blast finisher and I feel like its been working perfectly for me. Its just if you have the combo fields stacked on top of each other, it’ll turn the game into a giant STACK ALL THE FIELDS and blast them all. It just would destroy balance. It would render all of the other finishers useless because blast is the best for having AOE boons and stuff like that.

However, the fact that it was a huge part of their campaign makes sense because its a totally new area that not many games directly improved on. I, for one, haven’t seen a game that is so geared towards teams trying to make the best of a field and focusing on teamwork rather one person with very good gear doing all the work

IMO, I really like the new path for Warhorn. You can combine Horn4 with sharpening stones, but I like to build entirely power for a Sword/Warhorn plus either Axe/Dagger (for extra mobility on dagger and a little control with axe) or Longbow. Now, with longbow its usually the L2P longbow ranger prejudice so typically I run Axe/Dagger. Of course, Longbow would be better in a Power build. All in my opinion

I think with Sword/Horn, Short bow is like an odd man out because Shortbow is very dependent on condition dps, which Sword Horn is ALL power dps. So I think if you’re set on a Bow, then try Longbow. I would take Entangle just for the CC though, it works wonders, but if you dont want/need the CC, then take Rampage as One.

However, I’ve been tinkering with Power too because I love Sword/Horn. I made a build that emphasizes Power but has built in tankyness (25k hp with 2.8k toughness) with about 2.6k Power. However, the only thing is that instead of Longbow, I substituted it in with Axe/Dagger. I don’t know what your playstyle is so its just food for thought. Heres the build if you want to check it out

I read through all the comments, and it makes sense how the torch doesn’t really fit into this power build. So, I put the dagger in place of the torch because 1: The dagger has a leap back, so in case a melee gap closes when you have the axe on, you can leap away and 2: it has a LONG cripple so that you can get a lot of hits in with your axe. In addition, it makes sense that unbound spirits would be relatively useless in giant WvW fights or even PvP when trying to bunker a point because it would be more efficient to hide them somewhere. Lastly, I traded in the runes to 5x Mesmer and 1x insert Power Rune because the Mesmer runes give me power and precision, but the 6th effect is useless (33% daze duration) so I just inserted more power in. This give me 11% crit chance which will somewhat buff my dps without taking away any of my tankiness. What do you think?

True, I probably would swap unbound for some defensive trait in PvP because rangers are the god of holding points. But in PvE and WvW, theres so much running around that unbound spirits is a must you know?

It’s a Sword/Horn, Axe/Torch build that emphasizes the power of Sword Warhorn along with increasing the conditions on Axe Torch. This way, you can get the conditions off and go straight into the fight with your sword. The defense will help you a lot with the Toughness Vit in the Soilder’s gear and you’d be able to hit hard with the pure power and your spirit buff. What do you guys think?

Or Howler if you run sword warhorn. I love the effects on it but the price on howl keeps on increasing. If anyone wants to sell me a howl….

So as I’m logging into the game, the UI on my mac client is painfully small, like too small to comfortably read the text. I just got my Macbook pro 15 inch with retina display and I already set my UI settings to Larger. Is there any other way to make my UI bigger?

So personally, I run the viable trap ranger with one switch. I go sword warhorn and short ow, with protect me/ signet of the hunt, Flame trap, spike trap and rampage as one. I go protect me in pvp to negate burst and signet of the hunt for general mapping for pve. My traits are 0/30/30/0/10 and gear with precision, cd, and toughness. Get crit damage, precision and toughness in your accessories and use drake/lynx for confusion/bleeding for pve and two bears (polar and brown) for pvp for tankiness. Get the trait for ground targeting traps and you should be set
