Axe is op, deals sick dmg and should be considered a standard pick for every Ranger who wants to do PvE!

Before you start flaming and raging read and watch, if you then still think i’m false explain why.

The build is ironically based on the “BrazilTheHue”-Troll-Axe-Build. We combine the Axe build with the sword build and get the sword dps + some sick axe dmg.
The Idea is the following: 90% of all bosses/mobs got projectiles that you can reflect. And reflection can crit and is influenced by your build. That’s how people do lupicus in 20 seconds.
And that’s what you can and should do as a Ranger!

In the Video you will see how it works. It needs some good knowledge of the bosses aswell as some good timing.

I paused the vid on some bosses to show what dmg you can reflect. As you can see in the CoF-part i deal the same amount of dmg, my team did in 5 seconds, in 1 sec with reflection (~50k dmg). This is just a little example there is much more you can do with this.

CoF
- Last Boss knock down deals ~5,0k per hit (~10 hits) = ~50k dmg .
Arah
- Mages do 10k projectile (not in video)
- Elementals do ~7k per hit (many hits)
- Lupicus (see other vids from mesmers, it works the same way)
CoE
- Robot deals 23k dmg projectile aswell as 4-5 10k projectiles. (if timed right 50k dmg spike)
HotW
- Ice Guy deals 3×13k hit ~40k spike

So basically what you’ll do is dps with sword/horn and swap whenever you need to reflect incoming projectiles for a quick 20-50k dmg spike. If you play sword/axe you won’t loose dps due to weapon swap cd.

Use Sword/Horn + Sword/Axe if you want and leave out the “Honed Axes” if you want. I personally like the Axe/Axe combo.
For pets and sigil/runes use what you want i find these to be the ones i like. (dont use bear, just go with jungle stalkers/dragons and you’ll be fine)
Swap the fire trap with whatever you want. I like the might stacking with the warhorn.
I personally dont like to use “Fortifying Bond” but use it if you want.

The Axe is a must have weapon for PvE! The dmg spike is so freakin high once you learned when bosses attack.

Facepalm was i forgot the rune power and the bufffood vit →power. I noticed it when i went back ingame and swapped my gear again -,-

@BountyHunter: I already solved my mystery (big facepalm -,- ) But nonetheless thanks alot.
Of course might stacking is op. 175 might alone from 5 might stacks of the pet.
That’s a whole 875 might on 25 stacks.
Which is equal to nearly 3 times our Power trait tree…. 3 times…

Might stacking is op as hell …. that’s why i stated in the video, that this is not the max dmg at all… just watch it closely to the end and you will see…

The idea was first to hit harder with the longbow, that’s why i skilled the longbow traits i then moved on to hit with the GS… because i liked it more as u can see in the video from the amount of clips.
And what you do is basically might stacking, which i did not include as stated in the video . So go and show me your video with more dmg … I would really like to see others beat that one.

AND just one last time for you ! THIS is NOT an actual build. It’s a simple how much dmg can i do with AAs from longbow and 2 attack from GS….

@ Bounty Hunter: You dont get the point of the topic… read it agian its not a build that you play its the theoretically highest dmg output. You can do it better than show me your video or be quiet . LOL. I just hit a lvl 80 guardian 10k using LB AA without bloodlust stacks or food, lucky his aegis wasnt up. But i have to say, the damage spike isnt easy to pull off.

kitten those stupid guardians with their aegis, ruined so many of my 20k hits just because i didnt watch their buffs!

With full zerk gear and Rune of the Ranger, you should have about 59% crit rate (estimated). Plus you aren’t in the fight alone, as you have allies who support you with fury. Plus it’s always possible to use Red Moa and wep swap for fury.

In High Level FoTM 38, the idea is to go more power-oriented rather than defensive, because bosses do not hit you enough to justify going defensive (as you could heal back to full health before getting hit again.)

Read the first post again please ! The build is using Valkyre set, not berserker, because we gain dmg from Vitality. We also gain dmg from Sigil of bloodlust, and in pve you won’t keep those stacks up. Overall you won’t have that much dmg and only a ~20% crit chance
With berserker stats we loose all the dmg we get from vitality(which is in fact not that much).

You want to play berserker then do it with one of the standard builds…

@Kain Francois: I can see no way why this is viable at all in PvE lol ^^ You only crit one time when the boss fight starts. Then you’re left with low dmg and 30% crit chance if i remember correctly. FoTM needs tanky melees the higher lvls you go, so in no way is this viable in FoTM. Longbow Rangers can stay out of the danger zone but still you only crit with the first hit…. so better play with zerk items and a standard build then you got sustained dmg. !!! Don’t judge me for this, i shall burn in hell that i said FoTM and Ranger and Longbow in one Post !!!

Just out of curiosity, how often are you able to successfully land that first hit (%)?

Let me explain first: My normal playstyle with the greatsword would be jump at them, stun/maul them or wait for the dodge and then maul them. All depending on the situation of course….

With this build i pretty much have to use maul as my initiation OR use 2 GS: one with Sigil of Intelligence for a 2nd guaranteed crit, which i did not use ! Why ? because im poor and i can’t afford another GS at the moment aswell as a 2nd Longbow. I did aswell use my GS with power/precision/crit. With 2 GS you could jump at them stun them switch GS activate signet and hit.

Therefore i missed at least 50% of my mauls…. But it all depends on the playstyle. For the Longbow it does really not matter if you hit or not. 1 sec cooldown is 1 sec cooldown. You should aswell attack from behind (10%more dmg). And if they got no idea you are behind them, they can’t dodge the arrow.

And as you can see in the video i played like a really sneaky kitten. Always coming around the corner of their base, because they just want to run to the zerg as fast as possible and probably don’t recognize me, which means i can hit my maul. So expect this number to be lower than 50% if you play this build in a normal way.

@Kain Francois: you should not try your dmg on mobs. They all have pretty high armour i’d say. Just give it a try on eles/rangers/thiefs lvl 80s. You should crit these with 7k at least.

My try on mobs (with my build):
white moa : 5,7k ( you can deal 5% more dmg, im using Sigil of air atm)
snow wolf: 6,3k

And Sigil of bloodlust makes a HUGE difference, just imagine 250 more power. Our traits only give us 300 more power. That basically means we have 30 skillpoints more in traits compared to a ranger without the sigil. That’s also a good reason why the bonus is lost on down… (I rarely use it i hate that stupid farming)

Also for you a little tip:
~60% crit chance is a full zerk build without bufffood.
~110% crit dmg with bufffood
These are stats you should be able to get with no problem…

I dont care about karma at all :P I just don’t know how the system works in reddit but i thought more karma helps to get more viewers.

To be honest at first i was nerved by all those stupid 4 zerk warriors cof path 1. Because back when no one farmed cof path 1, me and friends did it already… So i made a 4 ranger cof video to show that we can also deal dmg, and then i thought im gonna do some onehits… that’s all behind it . Again this is not a skill video. It just shows how much dmg we can deal vs low/high lvld and low/high armoured targets.
I still enjoy playing a slightly different build with up to 10k hits and it works fine for me as for several others.

The build: Basic Idea was to crit with opening strike and push all the dmg we can get into that . Therfore 30/30/0/10/0
Valkyre set + Trait Strenght of Spirit + power bufffood + Signets + Sigil of bloodlust + rune of the schoolar.

*Note: This build is not very enjoyable to play especially if you miss your first hit, for whatever reason. It’s just a max dmg build. If you want to play something similar play the 10k build it has better sustained dmg, if u want to play tanky then go play tanky

Today i’ve met the first thief that had skill (not the one of the vid), and i still nearly killed him with that kittenty build. Im 90% sure i would’ve killed him with my build, because i missed both my 2 and 3 attack from GS and he then had a easy game. With my build i would still have dealt high dmg afterwards.
Also in the vid, my currently highest AA(11,5k / not sure if frost spirit did apply, it was probably to late) from longbow vs lvl 80 target. The 25 might stacking sucks as hell, and im so happy when im done with this and i can go back to my over 9000 build,because it really sucks and makes no fun, compared to mine, at least that’s my experience from now ~4 hours WvW(and i feel like half of it from 25 might stacking -,- ). Update tomorrow evening.

@Kain Francois: There is a picture in my guide on gw2guru, you can see my stats just there . 3500 attack, so you should be around 3,4-3,6k with the berserker set….

With Valkyre set = 3,946
+ Trait Strenght of spirit = 4,037

So the reason why we build valkyre was because of the dmg from vitality. And the difference is sooo little…
With Valkyre i get ~80 more Power with berserker i get ~50 more. That basically says already enough. But i learned that using the 100more Power + 10% Crit food is probably also better with my build.

Ah ok i get it now … well yes that’s pretty neat well then still farming some money….

@jubskie: Yes it did say. But if i can onehit someone i dont need a second hit.
Also the 2nd hit wouldn’t crit for 8~9k since you only have Signet of the hunt for the first. So i guess it’ll be around 5,5-7,5k, on lvl 80 targets. I choose not to play with it mainly because i made the experience already that it’s really a onehit build especially if you go with Greatsword. And therefore the 2nd crit could be a really nice addition, but i still think the build is less fun and less working than mine. That’s at least my experience from ~2hours playing.
With Longbow i’d say you better play with my Over 9000 build, because you will be hitting also up to 8,8k (i rewatched some vids and i was able to do that vs an 80 Ele) and then still proceed to deal high dmg afterwards.
Onehits with the Greatsword are funny but you have to be in melee range and cant waste your first attack on your gap closer 3 (it also deals over 10k). So it’s a really weird playstyle. So basically here 2 greatswords, with the Sigil of intelligence could be helpfull, which i notice now while i am writing this ^^(this means you loose 5% dmg on the 2nd greatsword, because of the sigoil of intelligence)
But then agian i have to farm another GS and the sigil and im already out of money :P Will need some time.

Yeah i was suprised at first, because i downed the first one instant and then proceeded to kill him while 3 people attacked me, so i thought “wow im tanky” this could actually also work as a build. But in the end its not as effective as my default build.

Gonna update tomorrow or friday with a little video showing how high you can crit. But im still not sure if i can use Bloodlust sigil effective, because i die in 50% of the cases. So it’ll cost a lot of time stacking that one up every time.
I also didn’t use the greatsword with valkyre stats, so there is still room left for higher crits.

@ Taku and everyone that is interested:
I got now Full valkyrie set + runes + 5% more dmg sigil, the only thing im currently missing is the sigil of bloodlust, which i will hopefully buy tomorrow. I got bufffood with power and +10% crit dmg. So im nearly ready to start and tested the dmg a few minutes ago . Here are some little teasers. (I played with longbow and greatsword vs upleveld and not upleveld targets)

Upleveld:
GS attack 2: 17,142 (one hit)
Longbow AA: 12,902(20% hp left, ran away)

lvl 80
vs Necro GS attack 2: 13,666 (without frost spirit, ~30% hp left run away)
vs Ele GS attack 2: 13,668 (without frost spirit, +1 attack from pet and he was down)
vs Ranger attack 2:13,673 (had 80% hp, down in one hit)
vs Guardian Longbow: 8,900

I did some more, but these are just some examples of the higher ones. There were many lower ones,especially with the longbow, but overall it really sucks to play with valkyre, compared to my set where you still crit alot and do alot of dmg even if the first shot dealt low dmg. You won’t deal any dmg after your first shot. You are a little tankier but still it sucks.

But i never really critted a 80 target with the longbow higher than 9k. In fact i didn’t even reach 9k. But i got close so compared to my build u gain 2k dmg on your autoattack vs 80 targets.(i critted with 7700 max if i remember correct)
Vs upleveld Targets i feel like i can still crit higher with the longbow but i got to test that.

GS: You crit vs 80 Targets ~13k this was pretty much my dmg always. I tried it vs guardians but its hard to find a lonely one that doesnt have Aegis up. Couldn’t find any other heavy targets today .
Vs Uplvld i think there is no real limit. I can probably beat the 20k with the sigil of bloodlust.

So i’d say the max dmg you can deal with the longbow is 14k vs upleveld targets, and 10k vs 80. Everyone that says “uhhhh i critted much higher”—-> screenshot or didn’t happen. This is the max dmg build/traits afaik, but this build is unplayable because u only crit with your opening strike. So i guess no one is running this as his defalult build, when u already start crying about how my build sucks. So post a pic or be quiet. You can’t crit over 10k with the longbow if you got a standard zerk build!!!!
With the Greatsword 2 Attack im guessing you can deal up to 20k dmg, vs upleveld targets, and probably 15k vs lvl 80s.
I will make a video in the next 2 days showing off the highest hits that i was able to do.

Well i liked my first one more than this one now, the formatting of the new one still sucks, i changed it a few times and im still not happy with the looks….
Probably gonna do a real PvE shortbow build, that is more of a group addition and that you can play in every situation. BUT i think the build is too obvious and everyone can think of that by himself, so i see no real reason to do it^^

On lvl 80 berserker Ele this would’ve been around 7-9k dmg. On really tanky targets its ~4k.

I Actually havent reached 10k yet with my ranger, because i dont want to exceed my powerlevel from 9000!!!!! But seriously it is possible. I guess you can even hit for 12-15k max if you take warrior banners + 25 might stacks + 25 Sigil stacks of might + 25 vulnerability.

As you can see all cooldowns rdy so this is an Autoattack from the Longbow. And i havent got any might stacks, nor did i use my frost spirit (10% more dmg), and i have no weapon sigil might stacks, and no warrior banners. I reached 10k btw with Greatsword 2 attack and its pretty easy ^^

@Forzani: The 10k is not a channel at all it’s a single autoattack. Or did i get something wrong here ?
If i channel rapid fire it’s rarely below 10k lol ^^

And imo the procc only applys to the first hit of rapid fire. but i havent tried it yet.

@Vos Hollow: Well ok o could’ve done that by myself. Thought it’s alot more complicated, but that makes sense, and i tried it ingame. I havent played for a few patches so i was not up to date on the whole rapid fire issue stuff. Because when i stopped playing people said it deals only more dmg on low range

@Forzani: It’s mainly a fun build, that i use to run and one or 2shot them and if they refuse to die, i try my best to kill them with GS, or kite them with longbow. If they are skilled they most likely kill me, but i dont care i just want to have some good fun^^
I prefer using Wolf + snow leopard in WvW, the leopard because it deals freakin dmg with signet of the hunt on it’s first attack (7k dmg) and still hase some cc that i need.
Wolf – Use this instead of the kryta hound. Once you are downed use your 2 to stop the finisher, swap to your wolf let him attack and knock the next finisher down, activate the fear for the next finisher, and use 2 agian for the next finisher. The fear got nerfed in the last patch but still its so awesome.

I would not recommend using moa at all in WvW ^^ If you anyways run around with a group get the crit buff from them.

RaO: I use this mainly for the Fury buff and when i run around solo i need it. And i rarely use Entangle because i anyways onehit them or i dont and then i gotta be lucky ^^

Overall i think your build is a better wvw fighting oriented build, but it doesn’t crit that high :P

@Elprimo: Good Lord i’d never play this in sPvP ^^

Yeah i’d like to take piercing arrows, but then i would loose 25% more dmg. And for a good crit you need that ^^ I basically just skilled everything that increases my dmg.

Ah yes forgot that, ill add it here too.

The math is the following.
Berserker stats = ~60%
Fury =20%
Sigil of accuracy = 5%
Spotter = ~ 7%
Bufffood = ~10%
There you go , add a warrior into your group or anything that gives you precision and you can leave something else out.

But yeah that’s pretty much all in the gw2 guru guide.

For the 1trick pony part :
In the videos most of the kills are stomps, because i wanted to show how high you can crit.(1trick pony) Once your signet of the wild runs out (8sec) you will deal ofc 25% less dmg, and you will notice that. But you can still do 4-6k autoattacks with longbow without the signet.

I will probably upload a video later on with real footage of me fighting stronger enemys. I got such clips aswell but i mainly made this video for enjoyment, and i think videos are there to enjoy, and i dont enjoy watching a 3minute fight where pretty much nothing happens because both people are tanky as hell.

Longbow: I want to see the math for that statement ! I haven’t played for a while so i still think 1 deals more than 2 :P
3 is of course a skill you want to keep on cooldown, but in a good group you wont be the only one applying vulnerability. So its ofc good for this one.

Pets: I use red moa/stalker for might and fury buff, as stated in the guide i have to keep my fury buff 100% of the time all by myself.
I use drakes vs aoe groups, but for the rest i pretty much never use ranged pets.
I feel like they die anyways in dungeons or fractals.
About the Devourer im gonna test this one out
EDIT: Devourer now favourite pet :P pretty cool indeed didn’t think about that at all.

@ Chopps: yes you’re right. But i was talking from a PvE view and there condition dmg sucks ( not gonna explain why, it takes too long). Therefore :
crit bleed = bad
companions might = still the best out of all synergises well but pet dies too fast in dungeons (therfore kinda bad but still one of the best //i use this also)
Pets prowess = good but still pve pets die
Quick draw = sounds cool, but your main dmg source with bows is your AA, therefore kinda OK but not superior.

Now if you compare all these “kinda ok, BUT” skills with the great ones in Marksmanship.
Spotter: Inc crit for group
Steady focus = more dmg for group
Signet mastery = more dmg
Signet of the beastmaster = more dmg
Eagle Eye = more dmg and kinda have to take with longbow
Piercing arrows = have to take vs mob groups
Remoreless = never took it but 20 stacks vulnerability vs mob groups everytime one of them dies sounds good aswell.

As you can see from a Pve /longbow perspective all those godlike skills in tree 1 are far better than the useless Pet related ones in the crit tree.

The rest are all traps/PvP skills which i wont cover/consider taking in a PvE longbow build.

Yep tentacles are my favourite On Bosses the dmg with the balanced build will be around 3-5k on AAs.

My opinion to Ranger traits:
Marksmanship: This is the kittening best and worst tree in the game. You got 3 slots but you could use 7. There are so many good skills in there.
Skirmishing: You want the 30% crit dmg and precision. But the tree itself is not related to crit at all, despite your pets, which die too fast in dungeons. So this tree is kitten, but you need it.
The rest is pretty much a tanky pvp tree stuff and i wont cover that.

But looking at other classes, for example the Warrior you can’t go for 300 precision 30% crit and 300 power. Some other classes can but then imo their skill tree is far from the rangers. It’s just such a good combo the 30/30 ranger tree and imo you have to skill it in PvE.

Put Spotter into Skirmishing, where it belongs, put some other stuff from Marksmanship in there aswell and we got some superior skill trees.

While all people cry about the ranger, i think he is a good dps in PvE but there are still better ones.

This build focuses on maximizing the dmg on your Greatsword 2 attack or your Longbow Autoattacks. You will still have more than 90% crit chance. Dealing dmg between 4k-10k dmg depending on skill and signets.

This build focuses on you constantly keeping up fury by yourself, because you stand aside from the group buffs. You reach 100% crit chance but cant build piercing arrows, which are not needed for single target fights
