First, I assume you are going for pve parts of the game, if not, then which other parts?
Second, do you have the Heart of Thorns expansion?
I wanna be able to do most anything but I’m gonna lean a lot more towards WvW
I do not currently have HoT but I’ll be buying it in a months time once I get back into the game
I’m just getting back into GW2 after a few years. I never really got that far into it because I always had fun just simply exploring, and friends wanted to play other games so I never really had time to play. I’m coming back and the game looks completely different, and it also seems a lot more complex than it was at release.
Necro and Mesmer are the classes I’ve enjoyed the most but necromancer has felt more my style since I’ve played one.
Can someone give me a helpful push in the right direction when it comes to getting started and what some basic builds look like? What are some traps newbies fall into and is there anything that could be wasted time about the class? Like I said I’m just now getting into the game for real and I’m just at a complete loss man.
Hello,
I bought Gw2 around the time it first came out and for about a month or two I didn’t really focus on anything other than having a good time with friends and exploring the world. Unfortunately for me that meant I got almost nowhere in the game when it comes to the long run, and really only ever knew how to just run around, kill things aimlessly, and follow my personal storyline. I only ever really did one dungeon thing and only got to like level 35.
When I started I was on an EU server because a friend of mine from another game played there, so that was back before that didn’t matter. Because I was so interested in WvW I ended up deleting all my characters so I can move servers because at the time I couldn’t afford to just buy a change. Fast forward to today, I never really got any of my characters past level 20 the second time around, and the game has changed irrevocably, so everything I thought I knew is mostly gone now, or changed. What hasn’t changed is my dangerous attraction to the Necromancer and Mesmer classes, as well as my love for all things Asuran.
I’m growing tired of my experiences elsewhere and want to get into a vibrant online community for something that isn’t f2p or p2w, and I remembered I own this game. I really want to get back into it, and get into the swing of things before I upgrade to Heart of Thorns in about a month. I wanted to get back into the game before I actually spent money on it again ^^;
So basically in short, I’m looking for a vibrant and friendly guild to help me get back into the game for real this time and work my way up to the point I can participate in WvW and have fun experiences everywhere else. I don’t have any friends that play anymore or are willing to come and play with me and I really have issues getting into MMO communities without friends.
I have access to any non-GW2 ways of communicating and am always a very active person in a guild as long as people aren’t mean. I get on my computer about 6:30-7 PM EST every evening after work. I’m the kinda guy you stay friends with for years and would love to meet others likewise
I could end up changing servers if need be but it’s not terribly important.

I created a asuran necro for fun the other day
“His name is Millkk, because Millkk makes for strong bones,… now ain’t that humorous?”
I was playing around with builds in PvP, even though I’m primarily PvE right now.
I’m extremely intrigued with the death shroud and it’s abilities. I was wondering if there are any viable builds surrounding the death shroud? I took out a large group of (likely inexperienced) people in PvP by myself with a combination of death shroud and AoE bleeding skills, like Grasping Dead, so I thought it was a viable build to pursue.
Does anyone have experience with experimenting with this? Any tips?
Anyone believe I’m an idiot and should try a different build? XD
Lastly, how does it fair in PvP/WvW (aside from making people run in fear, literally.)
Millkk the Albino Necromancer xD
He likes cute things believe it or not and speaks to his minions about the importance of milk to help developing bone structures. (He had a bad incident with being teleported by a prototype machine, it’s speculated he lost a chunk of brain matter)
7/10 would have been 9/10 but I got disturbed xD
Felid Riverhorn of the Ash Legion, a melancholic engineer with an odd fascination for swimming. Known for his long spiraling horns that twist like the river.
10/10!!!!
To all of them!!!

I honestly don’t see the problems with pets… My own tend to either outlast me or outlast others in my party. And often times when they are dead, I switch pets and…voila…
People are upset cause their single pet dies quickly… You have two pets for a reason. The survivability of your pet is not something you should care about. It’s that you have another pet to take it’s place as soon as it dies. I currently use a pet hyena… who btw, can call in an ally. The two of them together (for the allies short duration) has helped out greatly in boss fights in dungeons (of course with several other people there). SOME pets are meant to stay on the defensive, or guard you. Take moas for example, anyone who is keeping them in combat mode is serioussly off their rocker. (And I’ve seen idios do it)
I look through this thread and notice a fairly large amount of people want polearms.
I myself would like to see lances with polearm skins. I have seen lances/polearms in tons of games. The main focus of the weapons is stabbing, sweeping, and reach. Which honestly I already see that in current weapon sets, so it’s not a bad idea to implement the weapon.
If it was added it should involve chargeing skills, tripping enemies, and stabs. Though the problem with these weapons is they are almost always accompanied by shields, defeating the weapon system. (Unless you count the pole-arms monks use, which are two heavy to old with one hand.)
I’d kinda also like to see gauntlets/claws. I think it would be awesome to see a necromancer ripping at someone like a bear, or an elementalist using the fire attunement to form flaming dragon claws
Or rangers slashing and ripping along with their pets OwO SOOOO COOOOOLLLLLL QWQ
Dante… REALLY???
Why would you want no pet? Lose small amounts of DPS because you’re convinced pets are broken. Have you played a Mesmer? A necro? Play those for a few hours and complain about pets.
And pets aren’t solely damage puppets, they have a variety of abilities to support the ranger, and can be set to guarding you and mitigating damage. The idea of a pet is to give the ranger another way of kiting and mitigating damage. (Honestly I believe the developers stole the pet stuff from WoW, but did it a bit more poorly)
If pets where on par with another player, or even halfway on par, in terms of health and damage, that would give rangers very un fair advantages for picking on someone, more so than a Mesmer….
And Kell is using the word “troll” correctly. Someone who purposely comments, conversates, and insults a topic and thus hindering its ability to be productive. Someone who spitefully speaks against someone to either agitate them or express unneeded hate.
I’ve seen these threads on every major MMO out there…
You do know, skill tops build right? I can be the best ranger ever, have a sucky build, and still beat the crap out of people. I could also be the worst anger ever, have an amazing build, and get my butt kicked everytime. Stop looking at statistics and start looking at strategics.
People are complaining about rangers being bad at WvW?
I was -TOTALLY- not someone who was instrumental in taking a tower, not at all… I didn’t slaughter people at all >_> no, no siree, classes are soooo unbalanced….
=_=
The sad truth is, most the time the classes really aren’t unbalanced, it’s just that when a player is bad at a class or gets murdered by them all the time they pull out the “unbalanced” card.
I LOVE my ranger, it managed to take place as my main over my Mesmer (which I LOVED). Ranger is just so mobile… I use a sword/horn, long bow set and I’m throwing myself and my enemy everywhere…. I’ve caused more confusion on my ranger than I ever did on my Mesmer, which is CRAZY.
>_>
Isn’t this suggestion -basically- WvW in PvE area? >_> they have that feature for a reason, go use it.
From my heavily entrenched PvP standpoint:
If you don’t like shattering then Mesmer isn’t the class for you. Any build not utilizing shatters in any way shape or form is effectively not using like 75% of the tools that are given to them in order to overcome their opponents.
Hmm? I don’t like shattering and I murder people in PvP?
Shattering IMO is not something you need to focus on in the first place ^^; most supporting mesmers don’t use many illusions cause their busy with AoE buff/cond stuff. Offensive mesmers have enough damage mitigation and mobility skills to kite the heck out of someone. Shatters are useful though if you have a pure shatter build, but I honestly don’t see the fun in making clones/phantasms so you can use four skills repeatedly :0 but I’m abnormal, so people might like it despite what I think ^^
MY BEST FRIEND IS A EURO PLAYER
I’m American, but I play on a Euro server because my friend plays there. Our server (Vabbi) is the lowest ranked WvW server in the region… I am a HUGE PVP FAN so I was wanting to play on an American server for WvW purposes (plus I LIVE IN AMERICA), and use guesting to play with him…
This is inexplicitly the worst bafflement of any massive online game in my entire internet experience! I would understand and sympathize if it was a coding issue, or that it was temporary. But this is extravagently ridiculous otherwise. I LOVE this game, and would appreciate it if you didn’ completely demolish my will to play!
Use the Decoy + StaffSkill2 combination a ton, it will drive them insane…
SInce the Decoy cloaks you and leaves a clone behind, they attack that clone IF you use the staffs second skill to jump back. The staff skill recharges rather quick, and wiith mirror images you can shatter at a pretty quick pace, maybe slot a skill for warping, my main strategy is to constantly move in circles and leave clones behind, if you get a great sword it’s a good idea to constantly use the 2nd and 4th skills while your staff skills recharge. It’s a very primitive way of killing an elementalist, but hey it works.
The only thing I dislike about Asura customization is the lack of hairstyles. I really hope we’ll get more in the future – I’m also hoping we’ll get some nice long hair. Almost all of them cut off right at the shoulders.
Not sure if it will cause clipping issues, but even if it did, I would probably still go for it. I actually imagine my character to have hair longer than her shoulders, but I can’t reflect that in-game yet!
Easy fix! Add a “Hair Length” Option ^^
I’d love to have different hairstyles too! I’d love to see a Mohawk on an Asura! It seems all the other races have one! xD
QQ But Asura are so cute to begin with…It’s hard to improve them without making it stupid xD
My Asura already looks like Justin Beiber when he dances… I don’t see how this is a problem x.x
I don’t know where this comes from.. the rate conditions are applied in PvP, PvE, and WvW are faster than someone, or some monster, can remove them. Unless you are a class that specializes in condition removal/mitigation (I.E. Mesmer/Guardian), or a build that does so, you won’t get rid of conditions easily. And normally by the time you remove one another five are ready to take it’s place.
I Play a condition based mesmer… and… the amount of chaos I reign with condtions is faster than I can see people removes them. Yet I come nowhere close to a condition based necromancer who has players/monsters bleeding out their ears every five or so seconds…
x.x
I come from several MMOs were gear inspection is enabled…and has caused absolutely no rpobelm x.x
The game I come from is EXTREMELY gear dependant…and yet nobody cares about chur gear in a party… I have went through alot of online gam,es…and rarely if ever have I encountered “Elitist” outside of PvP zones. Those who are “elitist” are exactly the ones who DON’T get a party in the first place.
But anyways…I agree this would be a good idea… Besides… In this game if you know someones build you normally don’t have to ask for what gear they are using, other than runes there really is no variety in gear other than the amount of +Attribute it contains.
