In any case, combining the mad king outfit (town clothing variety) in the mystic forge netted a level 14 green heavy boot. I expected at least a junky town clothing or something in return, but got a piece of armor.
You’ve been warned. Don’t do it :-)
No worries. Someone had to do it and I wasn’t really in love with the costume. Hope it saves someone from heart-ache. Posted in the main halloween even page too.
Someone asked on the crafting forum what it would do and the answer is I received a level 14 green heavy boot with a vampire rune.
Odd that a costume would create an armor piece. Thought it might be some other type of town clothing at least.
Ah well. Ya’ll have been warned. :-)
Just did it. Received a level 14 pair of green heavy boots with a minor vampire rune.
In other words, don’t do it.
More positive responses than I expected, but glad folks are having fun :-)
This kind of thing is ruining this game. There is no way, none, to make the money necessary to make these items without paying hundreds of real dollars in gems or lesser amounts through gold-sellers.
Whomever is running the economic aspect of this game needs to be fired. They are destroying the best reason to play GW2. This November ‘major’ patch may well make or break the viability of the game. I know it will make or break my desire to keep playing it.
Never could find the desire to run around in circles getting irritated like half the forum folks. About all I did was mow down 150 candy corn to get ill after opening 20 BLC and seeing nothing.
Anyone else take a pass?
head . . . hurts. . . make it stop . . .
Just an fashion note for any light armor wearers. The Charr T1 armor is actually textured as leather.
I bought some Abyss dye and it looked more gray than black. Took a close look at the appearance of the armor and applied natural leather dyes and it looks much better.
Curious. Little thing. But save the 5g on the Abyss dye :-)
When more people realize Legendary weapon = Exotic with effects....

There will be no stabilization in an economy where bots run rampant and out-of-game gold-sales are driving the market for high-end items. It is a plague to nearly every mmo and has been for years. Saving up 400g for the typical player is months of work . . . unless they happen to get lucky enough to get a pre-cursor drop and want to sell it too.
Folks can stick their heads in the sand about this all they want, but ANet has to find a mechanism to get this under control (because the bots are increasing . . . not decreasing).
Sure, it’s just a skin, but you know what? GW2 is all about the ‘look’. Not the end-game raiding. Not the mish-mosh of repetitive pvp. It is the carrot that keeps the vast majority of us moving forward and the biggest carrot . . . the most important . . . is the legendary. Like it or not.
I like the idea of making the precursor account-bound like Bartho said. I think that would seriously put a dent in the problem.
I thought long and hard about what elite to pick (other than Moa/time) and picked barrage. It may not be perfect, but having that AoE for some things has been wonderful. . . even with the range. I don’t regret the sp spent.
I was looking over all the legendary videos tonight and never could find an answer.
Does the legendary pistol ‘quip’ use its animations/sounds on phantoms/clones?
Congrats. Though I do confess that I’d be one of the skeptics here. Wouldn’t it be nice if ANet had an audit ability? lol. Given the requirements, it was a team effort in some way, even if he simply had multiple people running the account to keep it burning the midnight oil.
I do know some folks have parlayed large quantities of cash into in-game gold (legitimately and not) and that some have even made large quantities of gold on the TP by using business savvy. I just don’t see it adding up here or, for that matter, anyone that has been popping out these legendary weapons so quick (let alone a 3x weapon skin).
No jealousy here. I haven’t seen a legendary skin worth making yet, but the day may come.
Bah. T1 looks nicer anyway :=p
oh, and check out the undead runes. I chose to use them because I have so much toughness. Really helps with that condition damage.
Rampagers armor with carrion trinkets is a nice balance. Gave up the trinkets a while back. The precision bonus isn’t worth the other goodies you could have, especially defensive. Love having invulnerability and fear.
I’ve been considering this sigil for my MH weapon (axe or sword depending w/ axe off-hand) and I’ve been reading that it might be bugged. What I’ve read is that it procs only one stack of might on a crit and it never goes above 1, not matter how much you crit or what your crit rate is.
This sigil is the most expensive in the TP at the moment, so there is apparently some demand. I just don’t know if it’s really worth it if all I am getting out of it is one might for 10 seconds.
Your thoughts or observations while using? Thank you.
I agree on both points. Love it and have no idea how I’ll ever afford it.
Not so much a personal issue as an issue of gaming. Many of us enjoy crafting. Some of us like it more than wandering to every point of the map (exploration) killing our fellow good guys (pvp) or playing economics (TP). No, there were no promises, but I don’t think there were any with any avenue of the game.
I am not rage-quitting over the issue, just pointing out that there’s a large sucking vacuum sound at the end of this (important) phase of the game. Crafting is an important part of the game . . . correct?
I suppose that I can look up from leveling the crafts now and hopefully discern a decent way of making a profit from sales, but neither I or the folks in my (yes large) guild find your optimism. I hope I’m wrong, but make the above suggestions for improvement none-the-less.
Appreciate it. Same with all professions? Buy a Karma item and craft to 400?
‘tis what I did. If you are doing multiple professions also note that the ’recipe’ you purchase will cover many of them. As I recall, the ‘rampager’ karma recipe I bought covered armorsmithing, leatherworking, tailoring and perhaps others. make sure before you spend more karma on a second recipe if you are in money/karma saving mode.
Another idea:
5) swapping fee: eliminate or greatly reduce the silver cost switching between crafts.
I don’t know if anyone has that answer definitively yet, but I’ve read that the crafting combines are account, not character, bound. This would make sense given the use of the finite number of sp’s for each character and those of us who use more than one weapon.
buy a single high-level karma recipe from the appropriate crafting vendor (I use rampage gear, so that’s what I bought). by the time you do the 6+ sub-combines and the final product, you should hit 400 with no problems.
I finished all the trade skills the other day and have to admit I’m disappointed. With all the possible bells and whistles this game has for rewarding tasks, getting the title of ‘Master Crafter’ just falls flat. Given that the only real use for crafting seems to be for making a legendary weapon someday, shouldn’t there be something worthwhile for enduring the pain and suffering of getting all the tradeskills done?
Perhaps:
1) special recipies that are actually unique or at least exceedingly rare. wouldn’t it be nice to have something we could make that would actually sell on the trading post to make back some of the money thrown into the pit of leveling crafting? Put a long cool-down timer on it or something if needed.
2) some piece of special gear that, say, gives us a useful crafting boost of some kind . . . maybe reducing cost of crafting merchant purchases, amounts of mats used in combines, etc.
3) skins. If this end-game is about appearances, then wouldn’t it be nice to get some type of special skin to wear? Armor/weapon or even just a simple in-town fluff item (like the cooks outfit that can be bought with gems).
4) legendary boost. how about a mystic clover recipe here? it seems to be the great hurdle in legendary weapons. Why not give this to master crafters to make or even something more in the lines of the exploration pieces we get for map completion?
I’m sure there is more that could be done, but as it stands now, maxing the crafts is mightily disappointing and there is really no point to it.
I lied. You do get “master crafter” title. Under achievements and have to click it.
Hey all, just noticed this thread. I had finished all my crafting the other day and all on one character. Only reason I did it was my OCD need for completion and I’ve sworn to myself I will not roll an alt in this game (horrible habit)
That being said, there are no fireworks when you hit the last combine. No title that I see. No special chest popping up to loot on achievement. Only thing I got out of it was being perpetually poor and there is little -to-no way to make a profit on the TP.
So I dunno. Not sure there’s any reason to do it all on one character though I suppose it does have its uses account-wide to level alts.
happy crafting!
oh and on sigils, I chose to use earth mainhand and agony off-hand. I still debate that on a daily basis and have been seriously tempted to put a life=steal in main hand with a 5% damage sigil in the off-hand
I love this type of warrior and have spec’d and geared for it. Like any other profession/spec choice, it is viable, just not perfect for everything. I use sword/axe too and there is great debate on what weapon set is better. In all, if you like it . . . do it.
To the OP, I crafted my own gear. I chose to use rampager armor (power/precision/condition damage), then put power/vitality/cond. damage on my trinkets. Good balance I think. I also seriously thought about the 3 afflicted/krait runes, but in the end decided that a full set of the undead runes was a better fit with all the toughness I had traited for. Give it some thought.
You can make aquabreathers in the mystic forge. I made one at random (sorry, I don’t remember the combination) when I was in my 40’s and just messing around with random blue/green items. Sadly the aquabreather I received was soul-bound and cloth (i wear heavy armor) so I ended up destroying it (couldn’t sell it or break it down). Would be nice to know if anyone else has made one.
