Just surviving solo to goof around a bit is the first objective. I’ve forgotten so much. I also have a bank and 5 characters stuffed full of assorted bits and pieces a lot of which I cant even remember what its for. Most mat slots are full too. Black Lion will be making some commission I guess.
Probably jumping the gun thinking about ‘builds’ but having something to work towards would be no bad thing.
Slightly bewildered!!
I’m returning to GW2 back for a bit of hang gliding in the jungle. I have an 80 warrior and almost 80 elementalist.
Both have pretty rubbish yellow gear (I guess that new stuff will obsolete it?) I had beserkers, sword and horn, with a rifle on switch on the warrior. I’m jiggered if I can remember how I played him.
The elementalist I was playing to support my sons guardian. That was a stave build though I think I have daggers for him (again pretty poor stuff).
Anyway, any suggestions for cruising round the jungle? I think my leaning is towards the ele I think I read staff got some love?
Any suggestions for solid straight forward builds that are not too gear dependent until I get the hang of things again? (i’ll happily research them of course just looking for a nudge in the right direction).
Thanks.

At release it was much faster it’s actually got to the point that I do something else while it zones. A longer journey that needs you to cross several zones/waypoints (gathering for example) is starting to get frustrating. I am typing this while I wait for a zone to load, kinda breaks immersion
You are going to hate Orr! Mob density increases quite significantly and they are pretty much all agro. I like the frozen north for a more laid back feeling. I dunno if the density is less there but it seems so, maybe just because there is snow everywhere you can see stuff more easily.
Vetrans for the large part are worth passing by tbh. Some rewards could do with a tweak.
If you go to any other zone, you’re rewarded with karma according to your SCALED level and not your actual level.
That is not accurate. A level 80 player in Queensdale scaled to level 5 will see much higher rewards at the end of events than a true level 5 player in Queensdale. He will not see rewards as high as he would seen in a level 80 zone, but that’s because the events in the lower level zones can be completed much quicker than their higher level counterparts.
But the fact remains that the Karma/hour or Gold/hour is far far higher in the higher level zones. Coupled with the high transport costs there is not so much incentive to travel back. I would guess it comes about 15 times quicker in Or.
Seriously, I wish I could play around on more empty maps, and there are plenty of players like me who prefer less adventurers around them to more for a variety of reasons. So, if you’re running into zones where there aren’t many people playing.. to some of us that’s a good thing.
If you read what Anet have written it is clear that they want a good shared experience. While you might be happy with a more solitary experience that is clearly not what the game is about. I too am quite happy to run solo but I do like to bump in to people here and there and do stuff. It is brilliant that Anet have made it so there are few barrieres to doing that. At the end of the day this is not Skyrim. Some places where too crowded (not always by actual players cough) but you need a certain ‘critical mass’ for maximum enjoyment for the most people. There is a pretty wide ‘sweet spot’ but outside that its not such a good experience.
I have a whole bunch of alts approaching mid level, it does seem sparser but I don’t think the sky is falling yet. I guess I’ll find out as they progress.
Situation is dire. Most games with this level of botting never recover there reputations. The bots are so absurdly crude they are trivial to identify. I’m staggered Anet is allowing them to proliferate. It is currently deterring me from playing currently (along with the new torchlight and borderlands)
I’m flabbergasted. In another thread I see an Anet representative saying they are “developing tools” to help deal with the problem. I say again that there are so many un sophisticated bots, tools are really not required. (And will be ineffective against sophisticated bots anyway). Allocate som resource to banning these blatant bots. incidentally I see that GMs are managing to find time to hand out infractions for swearing (for example).
This as bad an infestation of botting that I have seen (and I’ve seen a fair few from Asherons Call on), as others have said it must be getting to the point where GW2 will be labeled as ‘that game that was ruined by botting’ (even if subsequently cleared up).
Anet have impressed me with there whole approach to producing and running games but this just defies reason.
Some of these bots are so unsophisticated it beggars belief. It takes seconds to identify them. Even sophisticated bots can be quickly identified by placing an obstacle or moving them.
It must be really sad for you guys to see you game being so comprehensively abused. What I completely fail to understand is why you are not coming down on bots hard and fast. It really does not take much in the way of resources (people) if you truly have a will to end it. Currently they are proliferating.
Jon Peters said While we need a safety net to stop unanticipated economy-breaking exploits and botting, we have no desire to stop farming. Farmers are a part every online economy and when they are doing normal game activity they do not cause any harm. If a player finds a normal game activity fun and would like to keep doing it, that’s fine with us.
The only way to stop botters is through increased manual policing and timely bans (something that is clearly not happening right now). Band aid solutions like this penalise legitimate players just as much as botters. Deal with the ailment rather than symptoms or risk damaging the patient.
I’d like to just add my voice to the "whatever you are doing its ineffective’ comments here. I guess you all at Anet must know that, it’s saddening.
It really isn’t difficult, you just need to ban botters quicker than they can start up again and earn enough gold to pay for the new account. If it takes longer than that they will proliferate, if you can do it quicker they will go away. Sure it will take some resources but some of these bots are so blatant and un-sophisticated its laughable.
That is the thing that is disappointing, the bots that take scant seconds to identify (for example those that teleport) seem to be operating with impunity. Ban these and at least the ‘casual’ botters will be deterred.
1600 bans means nothing. Bots are proliferating as a casual stroll around Orr will reveal.
Incidentally technical solutions can be helpful against unsophisticated cheats but they are ineffective against those that know what they are doing. Blizzard’s warden is probably the most sophisticated detection code written and MMOGlider still evaded it, without even having to resort to running in ring 0.
As an aside, ‘sticking plaster’ solutions that deal with symptoms (cough DR cough) rather than the underlying problem are likely to be detrimental to the game in the long term.
I know you guys care about your game and I am not going to come up with some hyperbole about this destroying it, but it is clearly hurting it.
maybe make a whole list of all the unreasonably priced items in the game haha, it’s ridiculous. PLUS after end game, it’s even harder to make money
Id’d go with waypointing costs. There is little incentive to go back to lower level zones as things are. Numerous threads on that topic.
I solo some champions with my elementalist. This is the most polished profession of the game. Not broken at all. But it’s definitely the hardest profession to master.
I guess I must suck then. I’m not great at attunement swapping but competent I guess. I am pretty good at positioning (running like a gazelle, usng los, timing evades) but its pretty much impossible to avoid everything, and there is stuff that just one shots an elementalist. Obviously you can take 2 or even 3 hits more commonly but that seldom ends well. Meanwhile my son is face tanking on his Guardian whilst doing more damage (whilst laughing at me on skype of course).
Any hints or tips?
I think the OP must have an agenda? Elemenatlist needs to go balls to the wind to match a thief face rolling. A well played thief…. no chance of an elementalist competing on any level accept possibly ‘support’.
From the dev post in the announcement section they are gathering useful metrics from the game so hopefully it wont be too long before they get another pass.
