Auto Loot Dosen't work on death...

I was having a problem with my alt account that is ranked much lower than my main account. I was alive and in battle, but when we backtracked, there were loot bags all over. I thought that it was my error and that I hadn’t traited auto-looting, but when I checked, I was traited. No idea why it wasn’t working. :/

Now I wonder how many precursors I left scattered about….

Personally, I find it funny. And yes, I’ve been killed by them. By the way, if you don’t have a full party, the unlit key(s) will not kill you. Just FYI. You can assign players their order, as mentioned above, wait on the unlit key, then get in place when all are there.

For full parties, as said above, just find a safe place to wait (there’s always someplace), then move on when you’re all ready.

That door can be frustrating and the flute can be buggy sometimes, too, like, say, having to play 1-3-3 a third time to get ice to shatter sometimes even when I make sure it channels the first note, or no sound, or it just not opening what it should. Just keep trying. It’ll probably click eventually. Took me several times to get it to take.

Reading this thread, I couldn’t help but chime in about jumping and reaction time, etc.

Internet speed and lag do affect performance, of course. Your computer and age can be a factor sometimes, too. I started playing this game 4+ years ago on a MacBook and I’d be lying if I said that building a gaming computer didn’t have any effect on my jumping abilities. I get the age thing, too, because I’m over 50. I don’t sPvP because I can’t go head-to-head with the reaction times of young brains.

that being said

The two things that totally changed my jumping puzzle abilities even on my old computer were making sure I was steering with my mouse and, most crucially, turning down the rotation speed in my game settings as low as it would go. My precision and control improved immediately. After that, it was just repetition to figure out the flow and patterns.

I’ve shared the rotation speed tip with frustrated Wintersday jumpers and they said it made an enormous difference. My husband swears by this, too. The change was like night and day for him and he went from frustrated to farming holiday puzzles and adeptly running trib mode with me.

Just maybe something to try.

The State of WvW

in WvW

Bolita.2071

TL;DR – link ups are bad (unlink again), PPK is toxic (bring back long term strategy), balance is waaaaay off, and shield gens deny ability to defend against supply-heavy blobs.

Anyway….

So much of all this. I’ve been generally quiet on a lot of this because I wanted to give it a chance, but just came out of a WvW experience that was just the breaking straw. And for the record, I have two accounts in different tiers, and this is by no means unique to just one server.

I’ve been running WvW for over 4 years, and all the while, my main server has been mostly in the upper two tiers despite being a bit unorganized. T1 has become increasingly unbalanced and unenjoyable, though, and we struggled to drop out of the tier. It took some WvW guilds getting fed up with how unpleasant it was and leaving for us to finally slide out to a lower tier.

The last few weeks out of T1 have proved to be no more enjoyable, despite what we hoped. Today, all the reasons that WvW has become more unpleasant were showcased in one afternoon and one final battle before I finally just logged out. About 20 of us tried to defend our whole borderland (which got repeatedly flipped), and while that was happening, our entire third of EBG was taken by a blob armed with several omega golems. We had to give up any defense of our borderland to try to save our EBG keep. The blob (maybe 40-50 strong) built an armload of shield gens to protect their attack siege in the nearby tower that they had blobbed away from us, so any defense we may have had with our own siege was demoralizingly negated. Defense siege was useless. Many of our AC’s were melted by guardians using reflects, wiping our last ditch defense, too. Despite being the lowest score by far, the red server saw fit to wipe only our third of the map and only our borderland. The other server was virtually untouched. And since our match-up servers don’t like us, and the verbally abusive map chat flowed (lots of blocking, which will cripple our communication later). As we tried to contest the only keep we had left on all the maps, we were being farmed for bags, the PPK ticking the score even higher than the already 3,000 point score difference. The scoring changes only changed the appearance of the scores, but was nothing more than just changing the scale.

Speaking of PPK, that was always going to be and always will be a toxic addition to WvW. This is not about long term strategy anymore. I used to enjoy the week long defense, but now, it’s just a game of incentivized ganking. Strategy has been replaced by point farming by zergs. There is no reason to try to even defend an objective; contesting an objective is now harmful, not helpful.

And then came server link-ups. I was willing to give it a shot. It was okay for a little bit, but since then things have become less unenjoyable, sometimes downright toxic. No server pride, no incentive to fight together with servers who don’t like each other, verbal abuse in map chat, etc. These things have made it unpleasant sometimes. Not only that, sever stacking has made it even worse than it was when it was single server. Random match-ups seems to have created more uneven coverage than there was before, and this is again from both my accounts in two different tiers.

At least we are not on the desert borderland for the moment. It’s the hardest to defend, and to force the server that is already the weakest to have the toughest borderland defense is unfair. I think the desert borderland should be given to the server at the top of the tier since they most likely to have the players to defend it.

You can’t alter the free market price, but it’s simple supply and demand. If they tweaked the drop rate, they could at least increase available supply and the market would adjust. Silk used to be much more expensive, but they increased the drop rate and now it’s much more affordable.

The only way to get the Gift of Heroes was to come in first place for your match-up on a given week in the tournaments. They were really hard to get then, so I can’t imagine what you would have to do to now to get them.

Hmmmm, maybe you could one Gift of Heroes per WvW achievement completed, such as Yakslapper or Unhappy Camper, etc. ? Now that would be a good reward for the more hardcore WvW players.

how to level leathercrafting to 500 now ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bolita.2071

Bolita.2071

Yeah, it’s really expensive now, but can be doesn’t have to be an overwhelming gold sink with a little research and patience.

My method was pretty straightforward. Cross reference what armorpiece/inscription combination you haven’t discovered yet with what pieces will sell for higher prices on the TP. Invest enough gold for the mats to “discover” that piece (or pieces, dependimg on what you can afford), then list the crafted armor on the TP. When it sells, sink the profit into the next piece(s) you want to discover. Rinse and repeat until you get to 500.. It won’t get you to 500 in a day, but it won’t drain all your gold away as if you bought it all at once.

Another poster mention refining ascended mats. Would totally agree with them on adding that in for the extra crafting XP.

Good luck!

It’s good to be able to call for help across the maps via team chat. I like the change, but do agree there should be a short marker to indicate the map it’s from.

Map chat will be just that, as long as there are no longer temporary blocks for excessive messaging as there used to be.

Shared Inventory Slot Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bolita.2071

TL;DR – Thanks, Anet! Love the slots, but they feel quite overpriced; I’d be willing to buy even more if they were ever expanded, but only at a price structure closer to 250 each, or 5 for 1000.

I randomly read here and there through the thread, so apologies if what I say is a rehash. I just wanted to give feedback.

First things first, I am really loving the shared inventory slots. I actually wish I had MORE than 5 slots to also include boosters, shovels, and HoT keys, or WvW items, and other things that are a pain to swap around. Like so many other posters, I have many copper feds and a whole tool shed of forever tools, but I see that as freeing slots up for other things since my characters won’t need to share those. If I’d bought them all very recently, then perhaps I would request a refund, but I’ve had them for a while, and that’s the way life goes sometimes.

I balk at the price, though. It felt overpriced for what it was. Fairer pricing structure for me would have been more like 250 gems per, or 5 for a thousand gems. If shared inventory were to expand to more slots, I would happily pay that to buy a whole bag’s worth.

I’m not shaking the “Anet’s greedy!” pitchfork, because running a business costs what it costs; without subscription fees, they still have to raise the money to pay 300+ salaries and benefits (I’d hope), hire artistic talent (professional voice actors, composers, full orchestras, etc.), pay lease and utilities on the facilities, cover maintenance costs, and all those other pesky costs of actually running a company, all the way down to paper towels and stirrers for coffee. Whether they have their own servers or hire enough for the millions of accounts, nobody is charitably giving them anything. It all costs real world cash, which we even still have the option of not having to pay by exchanging gold for gems, even if the exchange rate is not favorable.

Just my perspective. Thank you again, Anet! I really love the addition.

… could there be one of the tribulation mode balloons for out in the open world as a reward for completing all three levels of a world’s tribulation mode?

The balloon animation is already in the game (as are several other types of balloons), and I was thinking how fun it would be to have one of the tribulation mode balloons for outside of the box as an achievement reward in the color of the world completed. For example, there could be a green balloon for world one, yellow for world two, etc., just as the weapon skins were color coded.

Yeah, yeah, I know the return of Super Adventure is an enormous “if” and appeals to only a segment of the player base, but I still wanted to put this out there on the off chance the box ever gets opened again. I love my trib mode weapon skins, but thought this would be fun for my characters who can’t wield those weapons.

Thanks!

New Party Icon Colors

I’m finding not being able to see party members on the edges of my map to be a bit of a problem, too, especially on the new maps. Opening and having to search to find even where my nearby party members are has led to some near deaths from mobs. I’m also finding it a bit harder to see their dots through the layers of maps in the new maps.

I do like the guild yellow dots on the maps, though with of the occasional blue dot/yellow dot randomness for party members of the same guild, I found that the friend I usually play with has to rep a different guild to make sure we get a blue dot. Hopefully that gets ironed out because we would really like to rep the same guild when we run together.

Anyone who merely flips one camp and ganks a couple of yaks each week (if they even leave EotM to actually help their server) to qualify for what should should be an exclusive reward will be riding on the coattails of those who dedicate hours and hours in WvW every week to determine what level of goodies these ultra-casuals will get. Monumentally unfair to those who are putting their time in to actually try to win.

In comparison, the long haul AP hunters were at least bodies on the map who could even tip some battles, and time spent in WvW during the tournaments even does win converts.

GW2 Living World: Epic Adventures in Grinding

in Living World

Posted by: Bolita.2071

Bolita.2071

Anet, I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me my life back. I dread the thought of another day of mindless farming and crafting, and I am now cured of my gaming addiction. You are my heroes.

Jokes aside, though, I always give new content and changes a chance. I’ve given this a few weeks. I’ve completed the story line in my journal. And honestly, the bulk of what this season has been so far is endless grinding in order to craft one of the few event rewards (among other things we have to grind to find or buy). I’ve tried, but I just can’t stay interested. Even my son, who is practically a walking encyclopedia of Tyrian lore and an avid story completionist, is losing interest in the story and the event. He’s never been bothered by event grinding before, but has lost all interested in making his second event weapon even though he has the bug in his bank (ditto for me).

I gave the story journal a chance and personally don’t like it (the whole thing irritates me because I don’t really want to have to replay the whole story with each and every alt in order to unlock any achievements that I may want to play with a different profession), but that’s not really the issue. The bulk of my game for seemingly endless months was farming and crafting gear, but my little escape from it in events and LW is now more of the tedious same, the pace of which can be frustrating to downright excruciating depending on the random megaserver you get put in [repetitive guild chat lately: “Anyone in a Dry Top server that doesn’t suck?”]. Very uncharacteristically, I haven’t even looked up the recipe for the event back piece made from the stuff you get from the journal chapters because I know it’s going to take even more grinding and crafting to get it made. Ugh.

With the way the reward structure is now, there isn’t even the enticement of a special drop (crafting recipes? OMG, no.) or an event-specific title or even a special mini that you aren’t required to buy from the gem store. What do we get now for our story achievement rewards? A box of crafting mats we may not even care about.

Real life can be enough of a grind. I can’t be the only one who likes getting the toy prize in the box for an individual challenge or the meta, or to have a fun title as a souvenir that makes us smile, shows off our hard work, or is a badge of how long we’ve been dedicated to playing the game. I had fun working towards those things and they made it seem like a real progression of time and were pieces that brought back fun memories of past content. I have a hard time feeling that way about this new season because there is so little to show for so much grinding.

And that’s my two cents, adjusted for inflation.

Stuck at 80

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Bolita.2071

Bolita.2071

Eh, almost all of us come into this game with it already in progress. That’s actually the norm.

I’ve been playing the game for a little more than a year, and my play experience varies greatly from day to day depending on my mood. One thing to do may be to pick something to explore in depth for a few days, be it dungeons, or PvP, or WvW, or Fractals, or whatever, and you’ll eventually find what really speaks to you. Not rushing it and letting it come about organically with patience will eventually give the game much more focus.

You basically have to listen to what you feel like and just go with it that day. Some days I’m really in the mood for bosses and fighting, some days WvW grabs me, some days it’s leveling alts pushing open maps and running WvW, and some days all I’ve got the brain power for is checking out my achievement panel to pick something to work on or finish. Some days are just jumping puzzle days with friends, and I’d be lying if I said that there weren’t a few days in there where I just felt like doing not much more than just wandering around the maps appreciating the art. lol

I did end up rolling one of each profession, and that’s been really fun to explore the professions more in depth. If anything, it makes your main better because you get to know how each other profession ticks and what their weaknesses are. It also took me months and several profession to find who my main profession really was, and that was a fun trip to get there. I shot for map completion on a couple of them, and have just slowly been working on my alt 80’s maps and leveling my lower alts. I’m in no rush on those and have been getting to understand each profession much better.

As for WvW, I’m lucky in that I’m in a server where there’s no shortage of very good battles and strategy. If WvW really is what you’re interested in and your server isn’t as active as you hoped, then the only real option there (sadly, if you have friends on your server, really like your guild, or both) is to pick a more active server for that.

Good luck and I hope that things all settle in soon! The great thing is that there is no one way to play this game, and once you discover what really speaks to you, it gets even better.

Good luck!

Let me preface this by saying that I love challenging events. However, I have never, and I mean NEVER, been able to be on my main server for this event at any time of day, and the overflow was unorganized, underpopulated, and/or clueless (with and without a commander). I’ve never even seen Tequatl get down to 75% in the entire week and a half I’ve been trying to participate in a winning event. I did what I could complete of the achievements, got my wings, and then just gave up. It bites to have to spend the time hopping around other servers in the gamble that those servers might have room and actually know what to do. Bleh to this event. Too much time spent over the last week with absolutely no reward to even bother with it anymore.
