Eh.. newbies? I play thief very sucessfully in wvw and i have serious troubles when i get jumped by a thief. I either die before i manage to press a button or if i somehow survive burst theres no way to kill that thief. He just stealths and runs away. If he’s dumb i might kill him by throwning punches blindly, but we arent talking about kitten thieves… and thats the problem with thieves. Huge burst with extremly high survivability.

Dagger storm snares people so they have a trouble keeping up with you. I pull it off often with minimal dmg received. I only get forced to retreat if im dumb enough to move into melee range of several people.

+1 bro exactly honestly i rather them keep backstab the way it is cuz i have no problem dealing with it at all. i run a condition D/D and shortbow 0/0/20/20/30 and backstab thiefs prob hit around 9k damage. i have about 20k hp so. once they get that one backstab in i stealth heal up and proceed to bleed thier kitten to death simple.The only players who have a problem with it is players who cant counter it and get killed constantly. half the players ive seen complaining about it guess wat they are. GLASS CANNON builds ofcourse ur goona get ur kitten handed too…
You can stealth up but he cant? And 9k is on 1 attack only. You are forgetting mug and HS spam. With haste you are getting at least 3 hits in 1s.
Gear up as a glass cannon, die as one.
Guardian and ele might have short duration invulnerability on long cd but thief has spamable invisibility. Well played thief is just as manuverable as an ele. d/d thief is limited in manuverability but sure makes up for it in extreme burst and survivability. Thief only dies if he screwes up.
s/p build has spamable root and stun beside poisons. Ele’s cc is on LONG cooldowns.
Thieves dmg is over the top vs cloth. 8k bs crits are 50% of many classes total hp. And thats 1 hit only.
I dont play s/tpvp but i speculate its due to healing.
Thieves are already best class at “running away”. Its called reseting the fight. It doesnt happen since its not needed. People die before you run out of initiative.
We have same hp as ele’s and guardians.
We have condition removals built in weapon skills as well as heal/utilities.
We have more armor than ele’s and other cloth classes.
We have lots of stuns, roots and other forms of cc depending on weapon sets and utilities.
We have out of this world damage.
Ele’s only viable build is bunker build. It has pitiful dmg. Any other build means you die instantly to anyone that is focusing you.
1200 range is on staff ele only. If staff ele kills you… quit gw2. Its not a game for you.
I just want to point out that you’re right. IRON don’t go in EB, from what I can tell it was sorted very early that IRON will take the BL and RUIN EB.
IRON put in a kitten hard shift every night to try and keep some semblance of dignity for our server.
They can always be found with at least one commander on, trying to rally the PUGs.
The unfortunate thing, and the thing that differentiates us from the other servers is our PUGs are horribly disorganised while both the other two servers have PUGs that listen and help out.
Ours just sort of do their own thing.
It’s not the pugs,it’s the commanders.

even vs tried to defended the stuff they just capped.It’s just annoys me how ruin gets all the lime light and makes out they carried us,when there was more pugs and small guilds in eb than them.
In the end some smaller guilds moved over to there guild,but still it’s not all about ruin.
It’s about team play and that seems lacking in the bigger guilds eyes.its like it’s all about them and pugs means nothing even thought we have put in the hard work as well.
oh well i guess i will step down in wvw for now,why should i bother wasting my hard earned cash on upgrades and armours fixes,when us small ppl mean nothing to the bigger fish.I don’t know about RUIN, I’ve never entered their TS or been in EB beyond getting the map completion.
But I can tell you the IRON commanders do a kitten hard job in trying to defend points and communicating. They leave scouts at every fortification we hold and often at strategic points along the routes as well.
The thing is, they do most of this over TS (details for which they hand out regularly in map chat). The best way for us to be organised is to make use of TS, and there are a number of guilds that help out in the borderlands.
We’re not the unorganised mess people assume. We’ve got a highly dedicated and very organised core. We just can’t get the pug’s to help out.
The point i was making was not against iron as iron don’t do eb remember.
Just few posts back you were whining how iron doesnt do eb. Its obvious you are one of those fairweather pvpers else you would know we never do bl. Iron covers ONE bl and thats it. And due to recent internal events we took a hit in performance which we are repairing as we speak.
Ruin did carry deso to t1. Along with several other guilds that were pulling allnighters. Even with ruin we were often outmanned at night while you and rest of fairweather players were sleeping just to wake up and flame ruin for hard work of getting your lazy kitten to t1. Without ruin deso would NEVER reach t1 with player base it has atm.
Due to ungratefull kittens like you i asked for iron to switch servers but was denied unfortunatly. Instead of beeing a parasitic entity how bout you log in and go upgrade a keep along with all siege? And while you are at it do a nightshift. We seriously lack night/morning presence.
Only have IRON and RUIN? Really? Are you forgetting about the other 5-6 wvw guilds that play 7-8 hours during the day? Stop being ignorant and thinking IRON is the only good wvw guild around.
Had you ever joined iron or ruin ts ud know both have high respect for smaller guilds. However iron and ruin have biggest impact due to beeing largest guilds present in wvw.

As for thief whining.. Its easily counterable. We encoutered it and adapted to it. Read on thief mechanics amd adapt.
Fun fact: Deso is primarily a PvE server. For real. We have more commanders in cursed shore than in all of wvw combined (and thats not even counting the commanders leading epic fights in lions arch!). We also have more unorganised pugs in wvw than all of organised guilds combined. Iron alone has at primetime over half of guild waiting in queues to enter. Good luck getting major objectives done that way..
Fun fact 2: Iron, while beeing EU centered guild, is active even during the night even at 4am (but with lower numbers). That took a big hit on our leaders and it shows.
Conditions are funny. I reached 19s eruption with 13k dmg bleed on it. And thats not even its max. Its brutal in wvw when i get to land it several times. Pepople often dont cleanse it so 2 eruptions down most players.

I distincly remember at least 2 bl beeing outmanned last week with our total capped numbers of objectives looking like yours today at 3am. And that was pretty much constant at morning when our nightshift went to bed. The only thing we were zerging was our beds.
And fyi our (iron) nightshift is 99% eu.
Also explain to me how did deso get kicked out of t1 in the first place? And kicked so hard it dropped to the bottom. And why is the problem if we copy YOUR tactics to crawl up back to t1?

Im from deso and in last 2 weeks ive seen us get unmanned buff numerous times even at 3am. Around 6-7am we get outnumbered buff almost always. Ive only seen AS get that buff yesterday (6am iirc) for the first time.
Also remember why deso was kicked out of t1? Due to INSANE nightcapping. Now that we have the manpower to counter that… nothing but tears. Irony overload.
Also fyi RUIN treats eu servers with loads of respect from what i could hear on thier TS. They got burned few times and learned from it to become better. Its rare to see any form of disrespect for VS/AS on ruin or iron TS.
One thing i did notice is that VS/AS degenerated into mindless zergs that would avoid fighting this week. Kinda too bad since we all love good fights.

And i did say they are prenerf examples. However when you factor in nerf the numbers drop right about where i said the dmg was done on my ele. Thats on 1 hit. With 4 other hits it same just spread out. My problem is the damage done is still so kitten high in first few hits it easily surpasses total hp of my ele. Even if i survive initial burst im at around 20% hp and hs spam easily finishes that even through healing (if i even manage to get heal off). And i am no noob to playing ele. I fight to the end but i very well know when i have no chance at all to turn the fight.
And as a thief its just lol easy for me. I really NEVER back away from 1vs1 fights ever and i have a high chance at winning all those fights in few sec (vs other thieves its a lottery).
As an ele… if its mesmer or thief i run 90% and regret fighting other 10%. Vs other classes its a kitten hard fight that can last for several minutes (my record is around 30min). And this is why i switched to thief. Easy way to colect badges.
True. But in practice you can forget about it. The one that needs healing will moving like rabbit on fire and delay on your combo means you wont be healing anyone. I prefer to disrupt incoming dmg from start than chase the guy with heals. Ofc i drop heals and combos in my rotation, but id almost never heal for the sake of healing… its just there in rotation with water debuffs on enemy.

Took me 1min to find those and i wont dedicate 1s more to find what EVERYONE knows already but you refuse to. Even if you account in for signet nerf the numbers are right where i said my ele was hit for.
And i never bothered with d/d builds since i dont like the playstyle. Tried it while lvling but thats it.

Its called pistol whip. Last hit on it can easily crit for 9-10k. On uplvled champs it went as high as 15k (dont recall if i activated signet at that time). Combined dmg can easily go up to 20k. All that by pressing #3 once. And yes, it is spammable; with haste its just kitten It also has a built in evade. And if kitten hits the fan just press #2 and you are back where you started reseting the fight. However with proper signet and food that heals on crit you wont have a need to reset fights often.

For lvling take arcane blast/wave (i used blast due to range), glyph of lesser golem (a MUST have) and signet of fire or pretty much watever you want.
As for traits.. 0/10/10/20/30 is what i use. Water and arcane have great overall utility. And dont forget to switch attunments a lot
Nope. Healing is way too low to heal people with it effecively. You may help a bit but its just not worth it. Cooldowns are way too long and effects way too puny. Even with full healing set its crap.. not worth losing other stats for it.
Trating into water however does help a lot. Mosty to your survivability.
I play s/p build, bs is not playstyle.
I find bunker warrior way better tank than necro… but that me.
I never did that combo on anyone since i dont play bs build. It was dont to me when i was playing ele. I was running and before i could realise i was under attack i was downed. Didnt even get a chance to move my finger to mist form keybind.
Why should i even bother finding proof for you when everyone knows the burst thiefs do? Unless you are implying people are photoshoping numbers into combat logs? As for arguments.. yours consist in its entirety out of denying what i write.
Try playing an ele and than speak. Thief simply has to screw up for ele to win. And even than its near impossible to catch a thief to kill him.
Ohh yes i did. Its like you first time heard of those numbers hence my doubt. My proof? How bout nerfbat hitting signet for start? And feel free to youtube search for thief burst dmg. There are plenty of such numbers to show.
WvWvW is NOT unbalanced by design. Its unabalance comes from people with low lvl gear. I am however maxed out on everything except missing a legendary.
Orbs of power did not give that much of a boost. Signet was spread over 5 hits insted of 1 meaning even anet realised the dmg is way too high. Same for pistol whip which i still consider too high dmg. Expect more to come.
Those numbers not possible on bunkers? lol. Sure not on warrior with plate. On ele, necro and mesmer they sure are.
And yes, i do consider you a kid with a toy. You are scared of an idea that enemy should have a chance to fight back.
Those are the numbers on my full exotic bunker ele. And yes, i expect to kill any class if i play a fully equiped char.
I get the impression that you think i dont play a thief at all. Tbh im sceptical you ever played galss cannon thief ever. There are plenty of screen shots by other lvl 80 exotic players that got hit for extreme numbers. Than again i understan your position… no kid wants their fav toy taken away.
For real? My playtime on thief is about same as my ele. Warr and necro lot less sure. But with 500h played on thief and ele alone is enough for me to know the class well.
I never said bs is best there is. I will only say its kittendedly too bursty. It has nothing to do with people not having a clue. No amount of clue will help you vs 5k steal, 10k backstabs and 6k hs. And those are pretty much instant. And leme guess, you are one of those that said 17k bs were not op?

Yes it was in wvw and i play wvw exclusively. And i do main thief. Since i got my thief to 80 i played my ele once. Had some great fights, died few times, got instagibbed by thief and just loged back on my thief.
While there are viable non burst builds for thief nefing should hit HARD on the burst part. Just spreading dmg on one signet over 5 attacks (and giving it more! overall dmg for nearly all builds) got this community crying like todlers. And your song is catering to them.
And lol at 1vs1 chalanges in my mail (not by gintoki btw). Thief vs thief will prove alot right…

I always try to be objective as much as i can, its a byproduct of my education.
I play a thief as my main for a while already so i know class well. And how can you claim im bad when just before that fight i evaded death 1vs3 for a long time and even scored kills? Than pretty much instantly died to a thief? Key word: instantly. If you really want to know backstab alone was a bit over 9k and i was playing bunker build with tougness/vit as main stats.
And excuse my english, but its not my primary language so expect mistakes.

No need to belive me, there are plenty of players that can take on several opponents at a time and win. They have same stats (tough/vit) as i do and the incoming dmg was way over my total hp in about 2s flat. According to you i am a bad player, yet opponents are whispering me “well played” and stuff like that.
And i am “back to that class of yours”. Its a thief. Easiest class to score kills with and survive. None of the other classes i play come close. And i dont even bother with haste anymore. I only use it when i really want to make it easy.
If they ever normalise burst dmg i would still play thief, but i would also play other classes.
Focus is just bad for pvp.. Arcane utility is so so. Use cantrips since they boost your survivability a LOT.
Ele is a class with 4 attunments, sticking to 1 is a recipe for disaster. Check some vids of very good players and you will notice they are swaping attunments constantly. And that where arcane traits come in handy.. lower cd on swaping as well as some universal traits that (sort of) help on all attunments.
Imo berserker gear for zerg vs zerg. Aoe dmg on walls is WAY more valuable than little boost you get from +healing. Try it in mist to see how much healing you get from it (fight one of npcs to see actual healing – tooltip is kitten .
spvp or wvw? Solo pvp or zerg? d/d or s/d or staff? Water is your surivabilty trait, your life depends on it.
I personally use 0/10/10/20/30 traits along with power/toughness/vit gear.

I play thief, ele, necro and warrior on 2 accounts. Just how easy thief playing is is unbelivable. I simply dont die in 1vs1 or even 1vs2-3 unless i make major mistake. Cloth i down in 2s, warriors/guardians last 5s (not counting shield block and other immunity to dmg). I easily do 20k dmg on non tanky cloth by pressing 1 button that i can spam.
So how is it skill when other classes cant even respond before beeing downed? I down most players before i hit 80% hp. How is that skill? How is that lack of opposing players skill?
For comparison take this: 2 days ago i was palying my full bunker ele. Was fighting vs engineer, guardian and another ele (ele was uplvled). Engineer and guardian were well equipped considering their dmg output and quite good players. Fight lasted unbelivable epic 30 min and i scored 2 kills. Best fight of my gw2 life, i did everything right with no mistakes. Than comes random thief and downs me in 2s from full hp. kitten he was skilled, right?
That sigil that steals health on weapon swap. And steal hp on crit. It adds up and they do dmg. Test it on mist before you use it tho.
And i stand corrected. Well done. Wouldnt ever think of blinds through storm. My issue would be using 70s long cd’s to pull those fights out. And you agroed 6 mobs at a time in grenth room. And why arent u using trait to expand staff aoe?
If my computer could handle fraps id show u what thief can do in 10s. Pull entire supply camp veterans (but need to LOS ranged mobs so they come to u) and melt em.

The thing is you have to gather up creeps for earthquake. If 2 are ranged you will take loads of dmg before you gather em close enough to KD all of them. And that armor will end and when it does you will get hit badly. 1 cc from a mob is deadly when you have several mobs on your kitten since it means each gets at least 2 hits on you.
Staff is just bad for killing fast. I used scepter/dagger. Casting dragons tooth and following with phoenix they land almost at same time. Phoenix can do 3x dmg if you aim it just lil bit behind enemy. After firewall (cast so it hits enemy on cast since it has initial dmg) and firegrab (if its not on cd…) you pretty much must switch attunment to either air or earth (prefer air due to higher direct dmg) to finish creep if it wont die from burning by itself. Never resort to autoattacking in scepter fire unless its to inflict burning for firegrab.
And yes, attunment dancing is mandatory for ele if you dont like swaping u shouldnt play ele. And elemental attunment (arcane trait V) is mandatory. Traiting into fire is… soooo not worth it.

He has 1 blink (like ele #2, just instant port to desired location) and stealth that comes rather late and can interupt as well but doesnt move you. Ressing up was probably rally since some1 died.
Good tactic i didnt think of. Props to byron for it However i still dont see you surviving incoming dps from before earthquake and after it. Almost certain ud be forced to heal before you got to E5.
Thats one skilled thief to pull that off. Best i could do was go vs 4 and “win” (just to be zerged before i could stomp em). And that took me very careful playing since i dont use stealth. Had to pop in and out of range and blast people trying to ress those i downed. Eventually got all 4 down And just as i was to stomp first one i droped instantly to a zerg (had i seen em i would have survived easy).
From personal expirience thief is very survivable in both (sword/pistol spec), has same hp and pretty good healing with signet (on hit heal) and food that heals on crit. I found it lots more survivable than ele. And way more dmg. However in pve you wont be meleeing bosses often. In pvp it can get borring when you just wont die due to escape abilities or just plain nuking people into oblivion (ele’s are my fav targets :p).
Necromance i played only lvl 80 geared up on friends account. I found it quite strong and survivable a bit more than ele. In pvp its just lol fun. Dots galore. People say its bugged a lot but i didnt notice anything gamebreaking like with ele’s. No big numbers on dmg but LOTS of small numbers.
Mesmer… king of pvp. Ppl say it sucks in pve but my guildies dont complain… cant say for sure.
Also check guardians and warriors. They have it rather easy as well.
Depends on what you want to do in game. PvE or PvP? PvE is easy for all, just slooower and more dangerous for ele. PvP just roll mesmer… or a thief. You wont kill much with ele outside zerg and you will be just squishy to any burst dmg.

Whatever floats your boat. Agroing that room and than trying to kill it i dont see you coming out alive without droping agro on them first.
As for face tanking.. again.. whatever you want. And yes, i am aware there are some kitten weak mobs.

Yes i know that with elemental its rather easy to kill a LOT of mobs at same time.
Well i pass through orr randomly when im on orich hunting and kitten some mobs are annoying. I dodge a LOT but when i get hooked and pulled im losing 30% hp at min. When i pull 3-4 mobs im mistforming and flashing away.
i dont get the whining about conditions… bunker ele is the best class for removing conditions. Sux vs burst dmg a lot. On my bunker ele thief backstabs me for 8k and with 17k health pool i aint living long.
I also play a sword/pistol thief. I do about 20k dmg on cloth in 2s flat. And you are stunned whole time (1 stun per second for 1 second). And its spammable skill that also has built in evade. I can also disengage at any time i want regardless of cc you drop on me. I can also port to your kitten and root you pretty much on demand.
Just couple of hours ago i engaged 2 eles that had 1 elite outside. From distance of about 1500 i ported (2 dif skills used which combined have 1800 range iirc) to first one, pressed haste and whip twice. They both died. Second whip was already hitting air midway through its cast. I was in ZERO danger of dying in that fight. I could disengage at any time i wanted and would end up 1500 units away.
Only thing ele is good at is running and support in wvw.
Takes 1 day to get to lvl 80. If u got the gold for it :p
1 crafting prof to lvl 375 gives you about 10 lvls. 1 crafting prof costs about 3-4g to lvl up. Its how i lvled my thief to 80. Granted i still use few kitten green items cuz im broke but dmg is unbelivable Also gonna lvl mesmer and guardian that way. When i recover from gold shortages… kitten wvw is expensive.
s/p just killing anything that i see. If thigs get hot i just “2” out, swtch to bow and im gone. Dont use stealth at all.
In zergs ulti and avoid melee’s. Again if things get hot i “2” and im out and safe.
There are times i wtf die… than i find out its another thief impersonating mesmer clones that i ignored :p
Eh.. tanking 1 mob is easy for all classes. 1 mob gets me to half hp at best and if doesnt have distance closing ability i can sometimes kill it before it reaches me. Than again im max lvl with all exotic..
maybe but i can tank (well its not the right term because you won t be damaged) 1-8 with a knight set and D/D…
i mean ._. ther’s quite a disparity in that..i mean not an experienced players….but a staff player havng issues with 2 mobs getting 6-8 without a problem JUST switching weapon…
I can face tank 1-3 mobs, aka not take a single step from the location i start casting from.
If you actualy bother to dodge and move with staff, i can easily take as many as the game has ever thrown at me.
Im full exotic and find that hard to belive. Mobs hit for 2k+ and with berserker gear you have about 11k hp. 1-2 mobs sure, but anything more seems kitten dangerous. Considering mobs have interupts and knockdowns you will be moving or looking for a WP to respawn.
Go fraps your “easy” skills in grenth room. Run in and do all your fancy jumping all over the place. I could use some entertainment watching others porting to waypoints.
Mailing is really dumb. When you open a mailing widown, pick a name you want to mail stuff to and “right click-send mail” it automaticaly picks a new person to whom mail will be sent. Most likely someone next to you. Fix it?
This alarm is freaking kitten . makes any wvwvw unplayable since you need to restart client to “fix” it(long queues).
Ele gets less squishy if bunker traited with inquest gear. However the moment you stop moving and some1 has a chance to unload their burst on you… you are dead. However if you can survive that, than you cant die and cant really kill anything.
Thiefs never get one shoted except by some bosses and other thiefs. I play full berserker thief and its EXTREMLY survivable compared to ele’s. 1 pistol whip regens almost half of your hp and its spammable.
Sword/Pistol + Shortbow
Signet of Malice (heal) = heal on hitRun up to a group of enemies and see how much life you can get back from them. Pistolwhip is GODLIKE because it hits each enemy nine times (Signet of malice gives you life per hit, per enemy), and the more enemies that surround you, the better heals you get. You can pretty much face-tank a group of enemies just by spamming pistol-whip… you’ll be surprised at what you can get away with.
This so much. Add in life steal on crit food and precision/power gear and you can easily tank 4-5 mobs at a time. Even higher lvl mobs. Pistol whip has a built in dodge as well. If the kitten hits the fan press haste and spam pw. Havent used anything else since lvl 30 when i first tried it. At lvl 80 its just brutal. 6-7k numbers (starts with lower, i know) poping over enemy head in rapid succession is insane.
We (desolation) have about 5 bot’s in far shiverpeaks BL. They are located in water just above bluebriar (about 1/3 way to island on middle). Feel free to colect badges.
