Salutations Mega Skeleton!

In my journey across Tyria I have talked to many a heroes who have lost friends to responsibilities and desires elsewhere, and to be frank, am in the same dire straits! It was these sentiments that inspired me to form [ETF] Expect the Flank.

Halloween Weapons & Mad Undercutting

in Halloween Event

I think the most important thing to get out of this is to be as close as possible to a rational player (in the strict economics sense) as you can.

There will be under-cutters (those that undercut by 1c) and then there will be under-cutters ( those that shoot themselves in the foot). There’s a spectrum in between the two, but I like to think of these as the extremes. Most of the time, if you can, you want to be the former. If you can’t be the former, it’s generally a red flag that it’s time to invest in another market.

It all comes down to doing your homework and although you generally never want to hold an item too long, there’s a price to pay if you consistently move without planning. Given the Mad Moon Shield example, I can definitely see how the prices will start to skyrocket* simply because you stated that the cost of manufacturing is well over 100G, OP. As soon as the Halloween event is over, the majority of options to obtain such a piece will close off and if I’m correct, will leave the mystic forge as the last and final option, thus pushing up prices to match the cost of manufacturing.

The reason I say this is because items have some sort of gold sink whether hard/soft. For example, any bag created for the market will have a hard gold sink. You need some sort of rune of holding to even create a bag. Thus, no bag created for the market will ever be priced below the cost of the rune of holding at a minimum with the exception of bags obtained outside of crafting. For example, no 20 slot bag will ever be priced below 10G simply because the cost of a superior rune of holding (only obtainable through npc) is 10G.

*I don’t want to cause speculation but given the factors involved, I think it’s fair what I said

Yeah, I believe I had the same problem. Simply relogging or changing JP instances helped me. I did it about 10 times consecutively successfully up until the final jump where I would smack my head on the tower and I would die lol. It got to the point where I was in complete disbelief as to whether I was truly missing the jump all 10 times or whether I was bugged out. After I logged out and got back in, I managed to do it several times over without any bugs.

A little theory that i want to share with most of you here.

This is arguably as close to a ‘traditional mmo’ I have played in my gaming career (10+ years), yet Guild Wars 2 has been anything but a traditional mmo. I simply haven’t enjoyed the many philosophies behind mmo’s in the past, and so that’s why I’ve always stuck to niche-based mmo’s if I ever played. i.e. – tactical simulations, real time strategies, etc.

I love Guild Wars 2 because it provides that very sandbox feel you mentioned, OP. There’s just so much horizontal exploration I can participate in that I always find myself doing something different on any give day.

Shut down the free server transfers already!

iirc, Anet stated that the reason free transfers are still instituted is because guesting hasn’t been possible yet. So until then, we have to live with the situation we are in.

Irregardless, there is a WvW system in place and I for one, sincerely hope Anet DOESN’T ‘fix’ this ‘problem’. The game has only been up for a little less than 2 months, with less than a dozen rotations made possible. Out of the many complaining posts I’ve read so far, many hold no weight. We have to accept that people will swap servers irregardless if there are server transfers or not. We have to accept that people will quit midweek if things don’t look promising. We have to accept circumstances may strain a population this week but not the next. There are so many variables to consider that I sincerely fail to see how all these people complaining seriously understand what they are asking for.

As far as the WvW front is concerned, with any system, there will be perpetual battle of checks and balances; common causes and special causes. It’s Anets job to not respond to common causes and to find the best fix for special causes. And as far as I’m concerned, I’m certain that this is exactly what Anet is discussing right now.

Downed-State is here to stay

I completely agree with this 100% and can not fathom how to +1 it anymore than I already did. Although the full implementation is definitely up in the air for discussion, the concept of this sounds the most fundamentally sound.

There is nothing wrong with downed state (save the few imbalanced on its implementation, if you choose to believe so). If anything, downed stated has been a boon and the fact that Anet decided to formalize it has been extremely pleasing to me. It is part of the game and how you react to it is your responsibility as a player.

For example, I’ve been in dungeon story/explore runs where I never die/wipe simply because our 5 guys act as a team, prioritize health management, condition management, etc. On the other hand, I’ve also been on teams that wipe consistently because people are out there for themselves. Because of that, the risk balance per player shifts drastically from a uniform/normal distribution to something outrageous akin a pareto distribution. Both outcomes, with pugs. Good players find a way to get downed players up. Bad players simply let downed players die. This works in PvE and PvP.

With that said, as far as WvW goes, right now there is nothing that deters a dead player from getting revived if they have superior numbers. They simply win the engagement, and anyone that has died, simply gets revived. Any sides can have zergs, but whichever side has the most successful zerg will always be successful, because their numbers will never drop. There’s simply no logistical cost if you are on the winning side; you never have to respawn at the WP. On the other hand, if you lose a battle, it’s always a complete loss. There’s nothing to be salvaged save the few loot bags you may have picked up.

Once you’re dead, you should stay dead. As of now, every battle culminates in a 100% victory for the winning side, and a 100% defeat for the losing side. If we get rid of revives once your dead, then these numerical margins can start to deviate and we can actually have meaningful confrontations on the battlefield. Wins and losses can be 70/30, 40/60, 90/10, etc. Things will start to be dynamic.

TL DR – Downed state is here to stay. Revives when dead, get rid of that, please.
