The mind spike bug fix seems like it’d be a pretty big deal. For pve at least where mobs with no boons are common, that’s a 50% damage increase.
The hardcore farmers and the hardcore traders will always be the ones that come out ahead, just as they always have been.
Casual players are in a pretty good spot right now though. Gold faucets are everywhere. Doing any dungeon will net you at least 3g. Heck, I’m pretty sure with the way prices on the tp are right now just running around gathering nodes could net you somewhere in the 10g an hour range. If you expect to be rewarded for standing around doing nothing though … well … thats just silly.
The fight itself is, albeit subjectively, very hard. I don’t doubt that a highly skilled player, the sort that beats her in under 10 attempts, could cope with even a worst case scenario. But that’s the thing, there certainly are random factors involved that can make the fight easier or harder for those of us that struggled with her.
In phase one her claws seem to use some pretty whacky hitbox mechanics (Im surprised I haven’t seen this mentioned) and visually are either aimed dead on your current location or are arced slightly ahead of you. The actual collision can occur/miss in spite of what the visuals would indicate. Since evading or mitigating all of these isnt really possible they can sometimes leave you with very little hp remaining once you enter p2.
Assuming you aren’t constantly panning your camera around the arena every five seconds having an orb appear outside your field of vision and pull you into a double whammy aoe+apparition will end the fight for you in pretty short order. Yes they always spawn at the same time interval but its pretty hard to focus on that during phase two which is very hectic.
Not sure if her attacks follow a set pattern but she definitely at the start of phase two sometimes does her leap attack immediately, and sometimes, without moving, begins doing her whirlwind attack. If she’s doing the later you can shave close to 1/4 of her hp off before p2 effectively even starts. I’d call this luck.
I guess its really just a matter of perspective. To me though, saying that skill can mitigate bad luck doesn’t mean something isn’t luck based.
(In spite of all that I actually enjoyed this content very much, by the way. Beating her after god knows how many attempts was probably one of my most satisfying gw2 moments)
Has anyone tried it against Giganticus Lupicus? 4s seems like just the right duration to last through a full wave of the spazzy projectiles in phase 2, provided they actually count…
It doesn’t seem to absorb those

manipulation market , naaaa
Thats nothing, check this out going back to may 30th http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/36342
Smart economics or market manipulation is just a matter of perspective though
If everyone were to essentially receive a free precursor as suggested I can assure you that the price of t6 mats, lodestones etc would skyrocket and legendaries would become even more difficult to obtain. Demand for these is already far greater than the supply and having everyone and their brother chasing a legendary would only make it worse.
As far as I know there’s a piece missing from each stat combination’s set. For example “soldier’s” heavy is missing the helm, “rabid” light is missing the shoes, and so on. Leads me to believe this is intentional. Guess they want you to run dungeons :P
Can they break? Never really paid attention but if so having such a mechanic could have an impact in certain situations.
While there are definitely some people out there engaging in what I’d consider unethical practices I dont think its fair to condemn traders as a whole. Speculative day trading does benefit the market in some ways. Wikipedia does a better job explaining it than I could http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speculation#The_economic_benefits_of_speculation
I honestly think the trading post is still tainted by the massive oversupply of cheap goods produced by the bots which were allowed to run rampant for so long. The end result being that screwing around on the tp is many times more lucrative than farming, or any other method of playing the game for that matter, which I guess is where a lot of the resentment comes from.
And “exploit” is a matter of semantics. Of course traders “exploit” the market, just as pvper’s “exploit” their opponents weaknesses and farmers “exploit” the best farming spots.
And I find it kind of funny that the OP is complaining about the armor. He clearly hasnt gone jewelry shopping yet.
Out of curiosity what ballpark percentage of the population do you see having a legendary?
I do not put all my eggs in one basket.
I think this is very important. Everything is a calculated risk and you wont come out ahead all the time, but with enough diversification you can guarantee an overall net gain.
I agree with the OP and feel that I deserve and should be given a precursor as well.
On a side note why do so many insist on feeding obvious trolls?
Has no-one realised these two things are directly linked? All gold farming is going to result in inflation, all prices will rise. The more gold there is in game, the less value it has, you can’t expect everything to stay at knock down prices while everyone is still farming gold and throwing it around. The gold farm is exactly the reason why the economy is the way it is.
I think what you’re forgetting is that people dont really farm gold per se, they farm tradable goods. An increase in supply means lower prices and an increase in the value of gold.
That’s true. Also bullets from small arms would be rendered fully ineffective upon entering the water. (And while we’re at it players shouldnt be able to swim in heavy armor.)
I don’t think many games take real world physics into account like this though :P
The fact that you just dreamt up ‘Oh, well, chocolate and christmas go together… lets buy choc coz ppl will be using it!’ seems a bit odd to me. Hell I can’t speak for others but where I’m from chocolate has nothing to do with Xmas.
Actually if you pay close attention to the posts in this thread it becomes very apparent how the “pump and dump” market manipulation scheme works
1. Take a low-demand, low supply item
2. Buy lots of it. Lots and lots, so the “buy instantly” price point starts to rise
3. Place tons of phony custom offers
4. Post on the forums “Hey guise did you notice the price of X going up? Its cuz anet nerfed the drop rate and everyone’s buying it because (insert whatever reason)” (Throw in some irreverent economic babble to give yourself more credibility)
5. Watch as wild speculation takes over, then once the bubble reaches an acceptable level start selling everything you have.
6. Once you’ve sold off enough, most likely crashing the bubble in the process, assure everyone that they should stop buying now. After all you want them to save their gold for your next scam. Possibly get some sock puppets or friends to post thanking you for being such a cool dude.
I hope the people following this thread can see whats going on for what it truly is. It bothers me because it’s immoral, unethical, scummy, most likely illegal in the real world and it hurts the in game economy.
After that whole chocolate fiasco I wouldnt be surprised if there were some market manipulation going on here. Seems there are a few people out there that have an easy time taking advantage of human gullibility and an unregulated speculatory market
Well, no, actually its not the “end of story” because its a recurring issue for many people.
Was occurring for me constantly… at least every other log in and sometimes taking 3 or more reload attempts before the TP would function. The fix was buying more RAM for my system and hasn’t happened since.
So not sure if its the case for everyone whos having this problem, but for me Im pretty confident it was a symptom of insufficient memory.
I mean don’t sit around in lion’s arch doing nothing because you think traveling is going to make you go broke. I cringe at the cost sometimes too, but its never stopped me from going anywhere…
Well, I suppose there are good arguments for both sides. My point is that in general I think most people see a positive coin increase in casually traveling around and playing the game. Maybe it should be removed (although I think the economic impact needs to be considered) but for those of you labeling it as an “invisible poison” that’s ruining your enjoyment of the game you really really need to relax and stop worrying about it so much.
If anything the traveling costs encourage me to actually do something at every waypoint I go to. Why dont you just hit up a few resource nodes wherever you go? On that note I imagine thats part of the reason why travel costs exist, removing them would probably necessitate also removing the nodes around a certain radius of the way points.
I do think traveling to lions arch should be free, however. Since you can already get there for free by porting to WvWvW or the Heart of the Mists then using the portals there, so it really just means adding an extra loading screen.
Well, the thing is, part of an mmo is playing with other people. Sometimes you have to rely on those people, and when those people mess up sometimes you die. Its not a reasonable goal for an mmo to expect a zero death count.
I do agree agree that especially considering that the game is only a few months past realease more consideration should be given to newer players. The death count thing is just silly, however.
I typically play solo – and yes avoid dungeons.
So you’ve already accepted that you’re restricting yourself and not experiencing the full game…
Whole argument is kinda silly. Enjoy your self-imposed “hard-mode”, but dont expect the game to cater to it.
Thank you all very much for your feedback about this issue. We’ve already informed the team about all the concerns expressed in this thread, and they’ll look into it. Thanks again.
Thank you Regina, its good to feel heard
While Im aware that I freely made the choice to purchase 50 BLKs from the gem shop using weeks worth of hard earned gold on an impulse, getting essentially nothing in return is really more upsetting than I think any game should make its players feel.
Dont expect anything can be done about it now, but I hope the powers that be give some consideration, while planning future events, into if this sort of thing is worth so many unhappy players.
As for me, Im still really upset and disappointed and somewhat angry, but Ill get over it. This is a wonderful mmo and I plan on playing it for quite some time.
Thanks again
Wouldn’t, as the current system does, placing pressure on sellers to set their items at equal or less than 15% more than the asking price (demand) of the market (in order to prevent being undercut by flippers) actually prevent price inflation?
Not that I agree with the OP’s attitude, but there is something to say for the massive skill requirement leap from world pve to dungeons. Maybe world pve needs to be harder, dungeons need to be easier or there needs to be something in-between, but I think it does alienate the not-so-hardcore gamers who had an ok time leveling when they decide to try out a dungeon and get their rear ends handed to them.
Might want to read the details…
