Additions to Material Storage

As other users have mentioned here and on reddit, there is a strong case for adding the components of grandmaster marks to the list. I believe these were added after the exhaustive survey was done, so it makes sense that they aren’t on the list. That said, these are important crafting materials relevant to very many players since they are used in pvp, pve, and wvw!

Why not just make them completely craft-able outside of the collections?

Yeah. I think less people will complain about the loss of journeys and collections than not having the legendaries at all.

Completely agree. Continue adding legendaries, but cut out the journey for future legendaries.

Suggestion: alternative key for the glider [Merged]

Remind your friend that you:

  • Tap space-bar to jump
  • Press-and-hold space-bar to jump and deploy wings as soon as possible

It sounds like your friend is habitually doing the latter, or spamming the space-bar.

Actually, after my friend was having trouble, I tried it on her computer and had the same results. Her computer is older and prone to stuttering and similar issues. I had a lot of trouble sticking the landing without the glider deploying (though I had little trouble on my pc). We had already tried exactly as you suggested.

I have noticed that gliding can make some jumps more difficult. This can be a lot worse on older computers, where input lag is more pronounced. Some easy jumps in core tyria are now harder since you might accidentally deploy the glider and glide right past the spot you were trying to land on.

Recently, I had to switch to a mesmer to help a random person who kept gliding over the vista inside on top of the post inside the cave in northern Lornar’s Pass. It would be nice if there was a toggle or consumable that you could enable to temporarily disable gliding for some areas where precision jumping is important.

Thanks.

Repeatable achievements not counting

I dunno if there is an official word on this, but the repeatable achievements are listed under Seasoned Toymaker, but completing them doesn’t progress the meta achievement. Currently, there isn’t a viable route to completing the meta without completing one of the consumable achievements. I hope we can get this fixed before the end of Wintersday, since it is going to prevent a lot of people from getting the meta-achievement.

Event foods undermine chef crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Britannicus.4782

Why is it that every festival comes along and introduces new foods, often between than the last, which really undermines the ability of chefs to craft and sell their wares. What is the purpose of chef if players can get better foods in large quantities during these events?

Enough food will be produced to last all year, and they are better versions of food which is used in many places by level 80 characters. So far, I see improved omnomberry bars, improved mango pies, and improved omnomberry pies.

I don’t see the point of introducing improved versions of already popular foods. Why not add these foods as recipes instead, and let players craft and trade these items?

except its a third cheaper to buy. and a hell of alot easier to get.

Well, per unit it is cheaper but compared to a single oil, its a whole different story, and that’s what you need in any recipe.

Also, ectos come regardless of game mode.

I have to say, flax is easy to come by. It’s a great source of income for those of us not using….

I do agree with this. Flax certainly is having some positive effects. I just think there are some negative side effects. One is that it significantly gates scribing which is disappointing for me personally. Also, thematically, I wish there was more variety than just flax. As is, Flax is the ectoplasm of HoT.

You can pay an explorer to open up more, I think. It is one of the upgrades from the guild initiative notary. You need a lot of luck and 50 ley-line infused tools (included one charged quartz each) and 100 tomes of experience, so definitely something to work towards.

Honestly, the flax situation didn’t bother me at all until I got to scribing. I thought once that was opened up I would be able to do some fun stuff in my guild. Turns out, I need more flax. Not only that, we need a great deal of flax(2000) to get a furniture vendor in order to actually do some of the scribing stuff with that furniture (probably by throwing oil on it, and calling it fancy). [edit: yep, just checked, flax is used to fancy up furniture and even to make broken columns out of unbroken colums]

It’s going to take a long time to completely unlock a guild hall.

The section about arenas said:
it takes 2 months for guild to unlock arenas, the whole guild hall takes about 9 months to fully unlock everything.

Better dig in for a long haul.

Maybe the full arena with all upgrades but the base arena doesn’t take anywhere near that long and I’ve heard of at least one that already had it after a couple days.

The requirements for the base version aren’t very extreme and easily gotten if you had a large supply of influence to convert.

They originally designed it for 2 months, but lowered it to a few weeks or less in response to player feedback.

I think they are a great way to transfer some wealth from those who can afford it to casual players who farm it because its so easily accessible.

This is a great point. They did this also with the new years event. That said, it seems sloppy to just use flax and require it for everything, rather than have a series of sensible ingredients, such as stones and crystals. My complaint is less about the pure cost, than the insanity of the flaxification of everything.

Also, the flax situation puts scribing out of reach of the average player. It is hard for me to imagine why they made it a crafting profession available to all (not just those with guild permissions) but then went on to put up the huge soft gate of material cost.

I understand that the new crafting system sought to utilize new and old resources, and that relying on new, HoT only resources prevents guilds from getting their guild hall maxed too early with too little effort. Currently flax is the third gate, along with (and even ahead of) aetherium and favor, stalling the expansion of guild halls. Far too much emphasis is being placed on these little seeds. I can scarcely find an upgrade which doesn’t require them in the quantities of 100s or 1000s. And then they are used for scribing too. And why not a Halloween recipe also?

I understand that the market will balance out eventually, but these items will always been a gold cost for building the guild hall. Since they are used front right and center, the vast majority of guilds will never be farming them in sufficient quantities for use. Personally, however, I would rather see their importance reduced now, even if it means that I, and the other early adopters, will suffer the financial cost of having built our guild halls out of this liquid gold. Heck, the oils show up even when it makes practically no thematic sense. At least add variety, so that I am wasting my gold on stone and marble instead of flax and flax and more flax.

Shield gm trait

in Revenant

Posted by: Britannicus.4782

Britannicus.4782

The shield grandmaster trait didn’t seem up to par. Players won’t want to get randomly rooted at a health threshold. Sure, there will be times it will help, but it will also cause problems. Additionally, if moving interrupts this skill, players who don’t intentionally use the skill will also interrupt the skill unintentionally.

Roy seemed to mention that the trait did something else as well, but I didn’t understand it. Still, I think they should use the shield trait to give bonuses exclusively while a shield is equipped (like most weapon traits do).

How about a racial core specialization?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Britannicus.4782

Britannicus.4782

The main problem with this is that one single trait line would have to be compatible with every class, and then repeated five times. This trait line would also have to be devoid of weapon specific buffs and class specific buffs while, most likely, offering very heavy buffs for skills that honestly don’t have a lot in functional commonality. This is especially true when you get to the elite skills.

One thing to note, it already seems like a lot of weapon-specific traits are going away with the the new specialization system. I only saw a handful left, and they immediate jumped on the idea of changing the guardian shield trait one when they saw it was still around during the live stream.

It is funny that people think this would be meta breaking when people generally don’t even take the racial skills in PVE. I think it would be interesting to have add a 6th choice to the core specialization pool, and race would be a fine source for that 6th specialization. Builds will always vie over what works best, and there is always the risk of cookie cutter builds, but that is no reason to throw out variety.

I get that some or many people don’t want race to matter, and I think that is a fair point. Personally, I wish it did matter though.

Doing something like this will eventually require all warriors to be norn, all spellcasters to be asura, all rangers to sylvari and so on, both in PvP and in dungeons/fractals.

The implementation would have to be remarkably lazy for this sort of imbalance to occur.

How about a racial core specialization?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Britannicus.4782

I would love for racial skills to more fully integrated into the game. I think tagging all of the racial skills by their appropriate race (Norn, Human, etc.) and giving a racial core specialization would make races and characters feel much more distinct. Moreover, I think that as the game ages, Anet should encourage rolling alternate versions of the same professions. Maybe racial skills could someday even fit into sPVP.

What are people’s thoughts on the idea of a racial core specializations? What would you want to see different races get as traits?

Just in general, I found it odd that some weapon traits stayed while many went away completely. I think I would prefer an all or nothing approach weapon traits. My basic recommendation would be to have one trait include a buff each weapon (doesn’t have to be the main focus of the trait) but have none of the 20% recharge weapon traits that are common in the game currently.

Another point I would like to bring up :

Respawn timers : In MOBAs that I have played, respawn timers get longer as the game progresses (based upon player level i believe). This is a huge catch-up mechanic in these games, because it means that if you are losing and the team over-extends (which they often will) you can team wipe them and get maybe even a minute of time without them on the map.

In Stronghold, if you team wipe the enemy in your base, they will probably have already respawned and be playing defense by the time you get to their base. Respawn timers should probably increase as a team completes basic objectives, IMO. Maybe 15/25/50 seconds for default/first door/second door.

I am not sure you want to extend respawn timers, because it takesp layers out of the game, but it is a very important moba mechanic. Even in Heroes of the Storm, where matches take 15-25 minutes, the respawn timer will creep up to a minute long after ~12 minutes of play.

A few thoughts :

1) It would be nice to have a quick way home when you want one (either a channel power or a point you can channel to get back to spawn)

2) I don’t see a ton of potential for come from behind victories. Getting both heroes is probably the only way to score a comeback. Respawn timers are too short for a team wipe to matter very much. This is a big deal, IMO, because matches getting out of hand will drive people away.

3) Rewards should be based around a full 15 minute match (stronghold should award about 33-50% more gold, track, and rank progress than conquest).

4) Coming from some Mobas, I was constantly clicking on the map expecting to see what was happening there… duh, that doesn’t work. It would be nice to get some 1-button methods of communicating with the team beyond just pings.

Overall, I am not sure what I think. Definitely an interesting game mode. I think I will come to enjoy it, but I am not sure I felt “fun”. I think its because channels are just frustrating and the gamemode relies on them too much. On occasion I accidentally broke a channel to early (thinking i had finished), other players would snipe the end of the channel, wasting both my health and my effort, and I just feel helpless during them. This is unlike capture points where all players are active, progress for capture isn’t all or nothing.

IMO, if you are looking for inspiration to make the mode more fun, look at the Toypocalypse activity for inspiration. Also, for spawning heroes, I recommend looking at Heroes of the Storm’s spawn mechanics.

Remove arena tokens from BLC

Or leave them in and remove the account bound and allow players to trade them on the TP. That way they have value based on the communities desire for the item.

I believe you can already buy them for 2 gold a piece (unless that is old information). If you let players trade them, they will still have a hard cap of 2 gold. Realistically, they will be worth somewhat less.

Just use them on your favorite arena its a RNG box you get lot of stuff you dont like from it.

This is a fair argument, but I think there is a difference between items which players don’t “want” but most will use now and again (boosters, merchants, etc.) and items which most players have no use for. Even most PvPers don’t frequent custom arenas.

When I completed Liberation with my girlfriend (who was the leader of the instance) and my brother, both my brother and I got stuck at the part where it says to “read a letter” or whatever (neither of us got a letter) and we did not get any mission rewards. My girlfriend progressed and got rewards just fine. Once my brother and I hit 30, we finally got the lvl 20 mission rewards, and were able to continue on to the level 30 personal story arc.

At the time, I searched this problem, and multiple people seemed to have the same issue.

I only now realized this bug which has been draining away my profits, and at times forcing me to sell at a loss. If you meet multiple buy orders when selling, all items are sold at the price of the lowest buy order (and the difference, I believe, is refunded to the buyer). It is very frustrating that the system simplifies the sale in this way. I just sold a 8 items, but because the 8th was priced lower than I realized (at a loss, no less), all of the profits just vanished.

My friend’s account has the wrong spring season achievement (4th instead of 2nd for Yak’s Bend) and it is not on her most recent achievement list, despite not completing any achievements since Monday. So that is a definite possibility (at least in many instances).

All three of us are life-long Yak’s Benders, and none of us completed the Season 1 WVW meta achievement, but all of us completed the Spring Season meta. She will be crushed if she doesn’t get the reward, we spent dozens of hours getting the meta and fighting for 2nd place.

I want to support the OP’s point that some of these achievements are absolutely relentless. This is especially problematic when they reinforce bad or artificial gameplay, like tagging yaks. Also, the devs should have foreseen that a lot of these achievements become harder rather than easier in the season format, where servers are overloaded, PC kills are easier, but captures and NPC kills are harder to get.
