It has become very annoying for me. I dislike ( just not my taste, I get that ppl like it…to each his own) HoT and won’t be doing masteries.

This thing is really quite aggravating.

Can we have some way to disable the pop telling us masteries are ready to be trained?

I dislike HoT (just not my taste) and thus will not be earning masteries and this pop up constantly appears. I get that the game wants to inform players masteries are ready to be earned but…as I will not be earning masteries ….I’d like a way to disable this.

I loathed every single minute of it.

I know I’m pretty late to the game and you’ve probably heard it all before, but I thought I’d add my voice in case it makes some small different for Path of Fire.

The entire story and all the maps felt like a complete chore. I have no interest in any of your “clever” mechanics, mazes or puzzles. I don’t care for pointless long and drawn out fights either (soloing hero points because nobody plays this game anymore).

I’m just a PvP player back from a long break and I only really want to enjoy the new elite specializations (the only value HoT added). Honestly, I used to find map completion a relaxing and nice stroll through the world but with the jungle I can’t see myself ever going back. Anyway, I hope either PoF is made less tedious or Elite specs are just made available on the the TP for gold/gems.

Sorry if you’ve heard this a million times before.

I am pretty much with you here. It just felt one huge annoyance, irritation and chore to me. Some love it and want more of, and will likely get it with PoF in a new variation on the theme.

They’ve decided this is how the game will be from here on in it seems.

To each, his own I suppose. There are those who love and those who hate it.

I don’t really say this as a complaint, not all games are for all people. So for me, I just play the core game anymore when I want some GW2. I still enjoy the core game a lot and wish the game well. I just dislike what they have been doing to everything else. Just not my taste.

Bottom line for me, is HoT/PoF just are not what I wanted in GW2.

Just curious here but how do you know PoF is not what you want in GW2? I can understand about HoT since it has been out for a long time, there is tons of information around about it. But our knowledge of PoF is very limited

Oh, sorry I did not mention the PoF demo. I should have included that in the post!

I did the demo over the weekend and disliked it. It is enough for me to know that PoF too is not for me.

Please keep in mind, I am not saying anything is bad about HoT/PoF, just that they are not my taste. To each, his own and all that.

If HoT is/was successful (I assume it is), I expect PoF will be too.

Brtiva.9721

Well, I bought HoT because I did want to give it a chance, due to my enjoyment of the core game.

I dislike HoT sadly, but such is life. Personally, it just is not my taste , not what I wanted in GW2.

I will not be getting PoF.

After a very long break I came back for the core game, to get a change from some other games I play. The whole appeal of the core game for me.

But, to each, his own. Some love HoT, will love PoF.

Bottom line for me, is HoT/PoF just are not what I wanted in GW2.

So, I bought HoT to give it a try, did not enjoy it, and now core GW2 is something I do when I want a change from other games. In a sense, one could say the game has no “future” for me. But I still enjoy the core Tyria game.

I was hoping the buffs to other staff skills would offset the change to the staff, but really it feels really awkward now. Just as well to use my GS and kill stuff rather than offer support in melee.

The 600 range was an OK compromise for me in place of a really long ranged weapon. Now, I just can’t see using staff.

Oh well.

Looks beautiful, and very interesting to see one of the Six get involved.

But, it contains many things I dislike about HoT. So really, PoF is just not for me. For those who did like HoT, this may be very good. PoF has a very different sort of map (it is not the vertical style) , but all else is quite familiar.

Love the desert theme, is nicely done. Cool to see one of the Six enter the picture.
But, I was not a fan of Hot, nor am I a fan of PoF.

When I log in, I’ll do core maps which I have enjoyed since the beginning of the game.

I imagine PoF will appeal to fans of HoT and they will have a good time.

Zavve, this sounds nice. I am an extremely laid back and relaxed player/person.

I have every class to 80. Been playing since launch. I am VERY casual now, a true old timer in gaming. I was playing arcade games before they were video games.

Long ago I wanted a game to be a brutal challenge every time I logged in. Now, I am interested in more relaxed and simple fun. I am not out to “prove” myself in games anymore. In GW2 I don’t care about map completion, achievements, etc. I don’t have all WPs open for example. I just want simple fun.

In GW2 I like the open world. I got out of PVP in gaming many years ago and don’t touch it anymore.

Usually I am found playing a healer in mmorpgs. GW2 is a big change change for me as there are no true healers. In GW2 I do tend to like support characters, even though they seem a bit weak in the context of the game. But, I play all classes/professions anyway.

Your guild idea appeals to me, since I have grown a bit tired of going solo all the time. I have HoT but dislike it, I am not a platformer and jump puzzles really do not interest me, so I have done very few in the game. HoT strikes me as huge JP with lots of aggravating enemies and the need to “master” things irrelevant to my characters. I got daredevil but that is it. HoT was a big turn off for me.

Hoping that PoF will be different but I doubt it. Though maybe…with a friendly helpful guild PoF might be enjoyable. Solo, I doubt I will get the expac, as I expect it to be a reboot of HoT.

So as it is, I spend my time now on a few core maps I enjoy. If I could run with some cool people, maybe other things in pve would be more appealing.

I like nice friendly people, dislike arrogant “pro gamers” who mock casual players. I hung out with those types for many years in gaming and watched them chase away many cool people. Helping people is something I really enjoy.

So, if you think I might be a good fit, I oughta give it a try.

I think the BDGM addon may enable this feature in some fashion.

I am very wary of TOS violations; BDGM seems to be OK from what I have read. Though still I am not certain that it actually displays a health bar above players.

Only if running the Chinese client as it was designed specifically for that and is against TOS. The floating HP bars get their data from outside of combat data which is why they’re against the TOS.

So much for this bdgm ,then.

I recently saw a video in which every player had a green health bar displayed above them.

What add on would this be? Searches have revealed nothing mentioning this feature in any add on. While several GW2 addons may be found via searching, not one has mentioned this feature.

This one thing would be, to me, so useful when playing a heal/support character. Now, I have been playing this game since it launched without such a thing, but it is perhaps the one thing I really miss.

ANET FIX REVENANT!!!!!!!!

in Revenant

Posted by: Brtiva.9721

Brtiva.9721

I would love to play support revenant. But the tablet just feels a bit clunky.

Either have it stick to the player, or….a compromise: if the tablet is not summoned/rezzed in world, let the effects occur at the player, on the player. Then the choice will be, rezz the tablet and support remote players, or do not rezz it and have the effects occur from the revenant.

Doubt this will happen.

I always thought it should follow you like a pet. The clunky micro managing of the tablet would be gone, and it keeps the Rev in the thick of battle. I spend more time moving that thing around when it’s out than I do using its abilities. I would even settle for a bigger range on it.

I find that most of the time, the tablet is not near me. I must evade attacks, I must kite…and I am then far from the tablet. It supports others well, it does not support me well.

It is as if I have no heal when using the tablet, essentially. Movement and the avoidance of damage is too important to allow constantly moving the tablet, which has a CD and energy cost, and as soon as I move the tablet to me (after I inevitably steal aggro) I must again move away from the tablet. I have to move the tablet constantly, and constantly move away from it.

I love the staff, the hammer, and the idea of playing as support. I just feel it does nothing for the revenant, even if it can be good support for other players (and it does seem pretty good to me, at supporting others).

I keep returning to it to try to find it more useful but it always seems subpar…by a huge margin.

Yes, I’ll still play old stuff. I have no interest in mushroom jumping and all, so really the expansion is not for me since such things are integral to everything in the expansion ( you need all the masteries to unlock hero points and such). There s nothing in it for me.

I’ll just tinker about in the “old” game on a few characters.

I suppose this is no longer the game for me. When gw2 launched, one could truly play whatever content one wanted and get your traits etc. The game was 100% fun for me. It was my favorite game by far, despite my affinity for trinity based games.

Now, it is unquestionably “play what you’re told to play”. My disappointment is that the game has become almost the polar opposite of what it was. had it been this way from the start, I would not have begun playing.

I have no interest in mushroom jumping and the like. Thus, no, I will be not getting one of the new specializations as they are locked behind these “masteries” I have no interest in.

So, they’re just going for a totally different demographic now I suppose. While there are some new specs that I am interested in, they are dead to me since I have no interest in mushroom jumping and all the rest.

this is the poorest design I’ve ever encountered in an mmo. If the design intent was to annoy the crap out of players then mission accomplished.

I’ll finish my ranger because I’m halfway there, then do Revenant and I’ll leave the rest to sit there.

I will not invest anymore $ on gems/gold for the three other 80s I have until this is changed.

But isn’t that exactly why it is designed that way? To make you use your gems in order to acquire HPs?

Wait, can we use gems to get HPs??? Because my time is way more valuable than my money…

If it is true that one can use gems to get HPs, this begins make a lot of sense in a way. Have not seen this but if true, it could be a gold mine for them in the Gem Store.

Maybe an HP respec would soften the blow for some?

I have seen this suggestion as well and it think it might, but…there is still the possibility that one will need to have every core specialization and all core skills etc, unlocked. So a reset in that case will do little. The HP would have be spent to unlock them all anyway, putting people back where they started, so to speak. They either would have the extra HPs or not.

We just don’t know how it’s going to be :/

Personally I am hoping it just requires enough HPs and that amount will not be punishing, since the one profession I want the new specialization for…I am just not going to run through much game play with. I hate playing it as it is and if more than gaining some HPs is needed, I just cannot drag that character through it. If it isn’t fun for me, I am not interested.

I have read of unconfirmed reports of up to 250. So it could be more or less; no official mention has been made.

And, for all we know, in addition it may be required to complete the expansion to actually unlock the specializations ( dev post about “unlocking your elite specialization in the jungle”….could mean several things).

Personally, I have one character I just hate anymore. An accumulation of changes to the profession totally killed it for me. I don’t play it all anymore; the fun is completely gone.

The new spec might revive it for me, but I absolutely will not trudge through the expansion on it. At most…I would stomach the distaste of obtaining more HP’s for it, but even that has it’s limits. Playing it as it is, is just misery.

So, in my case, if the expansion does not let me rescue/salvage this 1 character simply through HP’s, I won’t be getting it.

I do expect that we will have to go through the expansion in addition to spending an unknown number of HP though. As of now, I just plan to play the game without the expansion.

They have been very vague and tight-lipped on the subject.

Long time ago.

Queensdale, the garrison at about level 6. Player with a small girl avi, she was level 3 . She had apparently run from the farm where we used to water plants at level 2 or 3, for a beginner quest.

Well, she carried a bucket from there it seems, and was running around in front of the garrison where centaurs are located.

As people were fighting centaurs, she was running up to the centaurs and “watering” them. Dumping the bucket of water on centaurs.

Somehow she did not get killed; a huge number of players were there at the time and somehow she did not get hit hard enough to kill her.

Struck me as very funny and somehow cute. Of all the odd things I have seen, that stands out.

“Watering the Centaurs”

That is awesome!

About a month ago in silver wastes, I saw in map chat someone said that they loved something that someone had done at the entrance way point and that she loved us guys for doing it. Curious about what she was talking about I went to the way point, and found that someone or several someones had moved literally hundreds of pieces of rubble from the other fortresses to the way point and dropped them off. So when you came out of the way point, you find yourself surrounded with a gigantic sea of rubble. I’m not sure how long it took for someone to do that, or why, but I have to admit it made me grin lol

That and whoever did it must have been really bored haha

Glad someone else enjoys this:) It struck me as being so funny and oddly endearing.

I don’t think this quest exists anymore in that form, so it will never been seen again.

I wish I had made a video of it, “Watering the Centaurs”.

Yes, to me it does not make a lot of sense, purely from a programming and marketing perspective.

From a programmer one, clearly a lot of work and time has gone into them. It just does not make sense to put in that much effort if only a few people will enjoy it. Look at how long it takes for even the most minor asked-for feature to be implemented.

From a marketing one you do not want the cost to be high either. For those of us that pre-ordered we do not have much choice. However it is pretty much a guarantee that after launch (and the costs are known) some people will not upgrade because they do not see getting elites any time soon as being a possibility.

I’ve been thinking similarly, yet I could see them “gating” the new specializations behind a full run through of the expansion, in an attempt to push players through it, sort of “enforce” making players take each character though it to get the specialization. Depends upon how they are thinking I suppose. Some people want it that way, some do not.

For me, that would prevent my getting the expansion, for a particular reason. I hate my thief now, the changes which have occurred to the profession over time have made it so un-thief like. I don’t play it anymore, it feels like…..some nothing character….and certainly not like the evasive slippery thief I had liked long ago.

The new spec seems it may remedy that, at least enough so I could enjoy the profession again.

So, I have no desire to play it all as it is. If I have to run through the expansion to unlock it’s new specialization, I’ll just pass on it. The fun is gone for me as it is, and the drudgery of actually pushing through the expansion on it is the definition of “not fun”.

If it is a matter of HP, he has some and if the cost is not too brutal, I’d suffer through getting some more HP’s on the miserable character. Beyond that, I’ll never log on the character again. I am here for fun, not some tedious chore.

How they will have us gain the new spec will determine whether or not I get the expansion. It all rests upon whether or not I have to suffer the misery of playing this character or not, as it is now.

I just have the feeling they will require a play through of the expansion, among other things. So I am not expecting to get it. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised and they won’t but I doubt it.

I am not finding the info I have been curious about by searching the web.
Perhaps my search terms have not been good enough.

From what I understand, with HoT there will be a sort of elite specialization for a character that reaches level 80.

There were many changes with gw2 and now I do not understand how it all works. We used to buy manuals to unlock traits, is this how will it work if you choose a specialization?

If I take, say, a thief..and i want to make it into whatever its’ specialization will be, do I buy a manual or buy the traits?

Or does purchase of the expansion simply include this new trait line?

It seems that the specialization will essentially consist of a new trait line, but how to obtain this new trait line ( and its associated traits) I have not really learned from my searches.

I am very curious as I have been thinking of returning to the game but as of now, I do not know if I will find the new systems in place to be fun.

Thanks in advance for any information; my web searches have not revealed much.

Just want to throw this in here for the special occasion although I have said it before, many times: I really, really valued the openness and freedom the game had to it before the trait system update and the way too limiting NPE.
I still remember the horror I felt when I read that post about traits.

Many other things I dislike in the current game as well, but this is it for today, not the right thread anyway.

Freedom!

… /sob

Yes, it was the freedom that was so awesome. I had 100% fun. Nothing I did was uninteresting as I chose what appealed to me. I was not obligated to do things I don’t care for. It made for, overall, the most fun game I had found.

Very different since that day. Have hardly played in a year. Now I just come back out of curiosity; I can hardly imagine what the “new new” system will be etc.

So, April 15th. I last logged in a few months back, after a vey long break from the game due to my intense dislike of the traits system, and less to a lesser but significant degree with the NPE.

I just had to see what the 1 year mark would bring. Not surprisingly, nothing. It’s just a visit to a cemetery, and the remains of a game I once really loved.

I do have a sick curiosity concerning how tedious the Specializations will be. Experience tells me it will be on par with what I expect the “new-new” traits system to be; miserable.

Maybe I’m wrong. I would not put money on it though.

Traits Part 2

[SNIP]…the only way I can express my displeasure in a way they will care about is through my wallet. They haven’t gotten any money from me in a good while and won’t for the foreseeable future.

Same here, I’m afraid. I had started to log back in and even purchased gems after they made the personal story replayable, but I’m now back to what is sadly becoming my default stance of not logging in or making purchases of any kind. HoT is also looking like an unlikely purchase at this point, but I suppose that depends on ANet.

I simply refuse to reward corporate behavior like this. It’s not even poor communication they are demonstrating here, it is blatant refusal to communicate at all. This kind of thing sucks all the joy out of playing a game for me. I can’t enjoy a game when I know that the company behind it thinks so little of its players.

Nods in Agreement

I have not logged into the game since the first week of January, on either of my two accounts. At first it felt like trying to kick a drug habit, cold turkey. I would try to reason with myself that If I only log in for a few minutes and not buy any gems, then my point would still come across.

But no! My will power endured and after a few weeks of zero game time… it became much easier. I am not hyped about HoT, I have no Desire to log in anymore, and my Curiosity is the only thing that keeps me checking these forums. (particularly This Thread)

This company does not care about its customers and it shows. There is no use talking to a company like this using logical arguments. The only language they understand is money. So how’s that Code of Silence working for you, Anet?

Very much where I’m at. I check back here, this thread, out of morbid curiosity. I used to love this game and wish I could again. Since that April patch, a year ago, I returned sporadically. Every so often I’d log in as I missed the fun I had previously.

There was a time when I would have been excited to learn of Specializations, but the way things have been going I feel pretty sure it will be another system design which I dislike, like the traits system has become.

As of a couple months ago I really just lost the desire to log in at all. The traits were the killer for me, but the continuing direction of the game since then further diminished my interest. I just see little future fun in the game for me as it is.

Sadly, I am just wondering how awful the “new new” trait system will be and check back to see if they exceed even my low expectations. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised, but honestly I doubt it. I really do miss how things were.

Figured it was time to peek back and see how horrible things are. Been a couple months since I checked in here.

I really loved this game, the trait change turned me off, my friends who I’d got to come to gw2 from another game left about month after the trait changes happened.

In a way I was lucky as I had 7 lvl 80’s with all traits, but the change made me loose all interest in making an 8th. Basically I have not liked the changes made to the game since that patch.

Hearing about a “new-new” trait system has me curious, though still not at all convinced this next iteration will be any better. It’s just morbid curiosity now, really. How awful will it be?

It’d be nice be able to have fun in gw2 again, but I am not getting my hopes up. I just seriously doubt they will make the game as fun as it once was for me. Can’t bring myself to actually log in as it is anymore.

Been a while since I peeked in here. I have absolutely no faith in the trait system re-revamp being satisfying to me.

It is now with a morbid sense of curiosity that I visit this thread to see just how awful they will make this game to me. I really loved it, but ever since the April patch that gave this system, I have rarely played the game. It is the fact that previous to that patch I had so much fun, that I still take a look here every so often to see what is happening.

But, in truth it is now more a case of me wanting to see just how miserable they can make the game (in my opinion). It has simply changed so fundamentally for me that I have no desire to spend time playing it.

But I figure, oh well, does not hurt to check back now then. I will be VERY surprised to see them make the game as fun as it once was for me. Sadly I am expecting the “simplification” to ultimately be just as distasteful to me. I wonder just exactly what new scheme they will come up with?

I feel and hear what Ceta said, but it’s more than that even. They may not even “fix” it in a positive way. Let’s remember that the current system was, in ANet’s minds, an “improvement” over the original system. My trust is gone. Completely. Utterly. Gone. They can make all the promises they want and hype it into oblivion. It makes no difference to me anymore.

Been looking at another game; as it is ( hope I am wrong) gw2 is going to loose what I loved most about it. Basically it has. I am not at all convinced that the “fix” will be any better for me, personally. As mentioned above, the system we now have was hailed as a great new improvement.

I loved being able to do anything I want, and not be penalized for it. Not be penalized for not doing what I find to be no fun. A “must do” list was pretty much absent from the game save for cosmetic items.

I understand that there are people who want/like/need a list of things of things to do. Maybe most enjoy that and gw2 is going for that audience. I really do not know.

But I get no satisfaction out of a “to do” list. I disagree with the notion of " moving out of your comfort zone". “Comfort” has nothing to do with it. I do not derive some sense satisfaction via a pose of martyrdom by doing things I dislike in a game. It is not some spiritual, character building enterprise for me. It is simply a game.

I burned out on gaming long ago, for this reason. Everything had to be a challenge for me. If it was not a miserable and tedious struggle, it was not worth doing.

And that’s fine, if one likes it. I did for a long time.

But, eventually, I came feel “what is the point anymore”. It was a weird ego thing, always needing to prove to myself that could do everything. At first, it was great. It was fun.

But not anymore. I don’t have the need for that anymore. GW2 let me just do whatever I enjoyed, and my character progression was not hurt for it. So, I dislike the trait change and it’s sort of Hobson’s choice of “do as you’re told or hemorrhage skill points and gold”.

So I took the third, unlisted choice which exists no matter what the game requires. Don’t play. The five friends I took here from another game (they came here shortly before the trait change) made the same choice. One of them comes back with me from time to time to check out what is happening.

I have simply played very little since April, returning periodically to have a peek.

I may be wrong, but I expect things to go like this: Traits/skills/masteries/specializations will have hefty to do lists. Perhaps one will earn points toward these things while playing, but to unlock these things to use the points one must do required content.

This is not so much a complaint as a lament. It simply removes what I loved most about the game. Everything I did GW2 was fun for me. 100%. So, I miss what GW2 was for me.

Maybe, it will evolve into something I will like. But in the past year, almost everything has diminished my enjoyment. Every time I take a peek back, it is status quo or a degradation for me.

This gets more ominous all the time, for one who is not pleased with how things have been going. I feel that acquiring traits, unlocking masteries, unlocking specializations, unlocking skills, will be associated with a “to do” list.

It simply feels that most things are going to be very directed , with required content to be played.

When the game launched, I was blown away by the fact I could actually choose to play anything I wanted, and that which I did not care for could be ignored. Only cosmetic items associated with things I did not do, would be out of my reach.

I could do exactly as I pleased, and my character would not be penalized for it. Everything thing I did in GW2 was fun, 100%. Lacking this, my interest is basically gone. This was the central feature and attraction for me. If something is not fun for me, why do it? I am here for fun and enjoyment.

I loved GW2 the way it was, but sadly feel that GW2 is going to loose what I loved about it. I have a love for the trinity system and healing, but the freedom in GW2 was so appealing that I did not care very much about the lack of trinity.

I am sure there are people who would like “to do” lists, having things that must be done. It’s just that for me, I loved having a game with unparalleled freedom.

Read the technicalities of the Mastery breakdown.

Every time you see the word ‘Mastery’ replace it with ‘Trait’

Seem familiar? yeah that’s because it quite likely is – to get Masteries ( and if New Trait System is linked those too) you have to play SPECIFIC content in specific places
- ’Things like completing a chapter in your personal story, completing certain achievements, reaching hard-to-find locations, overcoming challenging encounters, excelling at adventures found within the Heart of Maguuma, or earning 100% completion for a map ’

Urghhhhhh

Yes you do get to decide which Masteries you apply those points to but you still have to go through a very specific grind to get them – the same grind you currently go through to get Traits

This is the heart of it for me.

See, I played gw2 for what was different about the game, for what was unique. In short, I could actually choose how to play, choose what content I wanted to play and not have my character be penalized by doing so. All that I lost would be cosmetics. Everything I did was fun for me. If something held no interest for me, I did not do it, and I was not truly penalized for it. I had 100% fun in gw2.

This is what turned me off about the new trait system. Required content to be done, or excessive skillpoint /gold cost, particularly skillpoints. It was just totally the opposite of what attracted me to gw2 in the first place.

That was really the end of GW2 for me; I have played sporadically since that on my existing 80s, made no new characters, and return at times to see if anything had been done with the trait system.

Now it seems, with the announcement of masteries and a bit about acquiring them, that this will be the path they take. The game will now revolve around doing required tasks. I imagine traits, masteries, specializations, everything, will revolve around doing required content. Not playing what you want, but what you must do. For masteries, sure you will gain points by playing, but you won’t actually have any masteries unless you play exactly as required.

This is not a complaint, but a lament. It is simply contrary to why I loved the game in the first place, and I will miss playing GW2.

Maybe I am wrong, and things will not go this path, but this seems to strongly suggest it is/will be the way to play. I will follow the forums to see for sure; I loved the game and would still love to continue playing it. But not if this is how things will be; I have another game for that sort of play and the required content is more to my liking…or I would not be doing it. I play games for fun.

GW2 offered me the most freedom , and that is why I played. Despite having much I did not care for, it also had much I really enjoyed. The original design allowed me to have fun all the time.

So, I’ll wait and see what the rest of the deal is. But it seems what I liked about the game is basically no more.

Well folks, the blog about Masteries is up.

The ability to train Masteries is unlocked at level 80 for all players that own Heart of Thorns.

And that line does not sound promising. Lets hope that there’s more to come that runs counter to that line.

The blog: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/reimagining-progression-the-mastery-system/

Hm. That makes it sound like the skillpoint shift on leveling won’t take place on accounts that don’t have the expansion.

I was thinking the same. Yet, they could simply disable skill point acquisition after hitting 80 across the whole game, and enable mastery point acquisition for those who get the xpac.

I agree, David. At the same time, there are enough sources of Experience in this game that no player should feel like they can’t earn enough to unlock Mastery points.

There will be ideal ways for sure (and my guess is dungeons will see a nice boost in popularity), but since EVERYTHING in the game gives XP, I think it’ll make things seem like less of a grind and more of a “I’ll get points as I play and don’t need to worry much about it.”

You may well be right. Extremely preliminarily, it seems like they are trying to split the baby between “play how you want” and “do these challenges and spread your play around the new zones”.

This seems likely. You gain a mastery points for “leveling” above 80…but you must do required content to actually train in an unlocked mastery.

One, it seems, will very slowly amass the mastery points by playing what you want, but you will not be able to train in an unlocked mastery without playing the required content.

I expect traits and specializations to follow a similar scheme.

I actually have played very little since the trait system change, as I dislike it. I was hoping for changes with the coming of the xpac, that would bring me back. It seems unlikely though. The changes in the game are contrary to what attracted me in the first place

Not what I had originally started playing GW2 for long ago; I liked that I could do the events I chose and ignore things I do not care for. This, it seems, will be no longer possible.

If it is not fun for me, I really have no desire to it. That was what attracted me to the game, personally.

GW2 now is feeling much more like other games to me. I have not played much since the trait change, but returned to see how things were going with the coming of the xpac.

Certainly there will be players who like this new direction of the game. But it seems that gw2 is probably really not for me anymore. It was a cool change from other games, but feels as if it is loosing that which attracted me in the beginning.

Oh well, I had fun while it lasted, but feel less and less reason to play gw2 than my other game I play. I played GW2 for its’ very different character, for the very different nature of the game.

All a matter of taste; I am certain many will love what is happening. More “raid like” stuff in way, the jungle seems like it will have some sort of raid-like features involved. Basically vertical profession via another route than gear and level cap increases.

This is not so much a complaint, it is just my disappointment. I loved how the game was, and not how it is becoming. I’ll miss it.

It is not the game I was so attracted to at launch.

Its interesting you should say that. Not that I think your opinion is invalid, its your opinion so its valid to you. But for me, GW2 is moving more and more towards the game I wanted it to be at launch.

More freedom, more alt friendly and a more organic and fun progression system. It’s still got some things to improve, but the basic core systems of the game are improving.

A mater of taste, I would say. I do not say the game is becoming “bad”, as if it were so according to some objective measure.

But for me, my taste, the game is going in a direction I dislike. It feels less free to me and more regimented, do as you’re told etc.

So, the game is just going for a different audience now I suppose.

This is not some sort of rant, I don’t want it come off that way. It just feels like the things I liked about the game are diminishing/have diminished and I have grown less and less interested in it.

I do not feel that one needs to defend or justify either a preference for the new way the game is going, or a dislike for it.

Maybe with HoT, things will seem better to me again. I do not know, I just feel doubtful that this will be so.

If you don’t have long-term goals you can advancce towards to, no one will play your game. for long.

  • Full ascended for 5-6 alts is a good long-term goal for me.
  • Having 20 pretty dress-up alts instead of 10 is a good long-term goal for me.
  • Fractals 50 was a good long-term goal for me.
  • Dungeon collections and fractals collection are a good long-term goal for me.

All/most of this stuff doesn’t affect how and which content I play. On the other hand:

  • Luminescent is borderline since the specific content grind, both LS and SW, is over the top for me.
  • All traits for all alts are an awful goal for me.
  • Grinding all WvW skills is a bad goal for me – luckily, I do not like WvW.

Once you say that your game is casual and make skins the endgame and attract people that enjoy it that way, switching to gating content behind grind is a bad idea.

Yes, I have not liked the direction the game has taken since trait change was made. I had decided to check things out again when I heard about the xpac. Not too enthused right now as I expect the changes it brings will just be a variation on the same sort of changes that have been going on since that April patch.

Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised but I have strong doubts.

I play very little since the April patch that gave us the new trait system but if they made the game like it used to be I’d be return. Just have to wait and see, but it seems they have decided to commit to the direction they have been going in recently.

It is not the game I was so attracted to at launch.

Have traits been fixed yet?

Short answer: No.

They are apparently working on it, but it most likely wont happen until HoT.

And the “new-new” system could be anything at all. So I am not celebrating yet. They can say it is simplified or whatever, I still have big doubts. The current system was also announced as an improvement.

Personally, I detest the changes they have been making ever since the trait change. So when I log on this game I just toy around on my lvl 80s made before the trait patch. I have not made an alt since then and have no desire to. Original system was great fun for me.

I am hoping they make changes I am happy with, but past experience tells me this is not likely.
