Jan/Feb patches: Make or break time?

First, I do think the ROI on my $60 for the game has been worth it. compared to how little you get for $60 in so many other games with ridiculously short gaming hours to completion, GW2 has been phenomenal in it’s return for me.

HOwever, I have reached a point where I don’t really play any more. I’m tired of the LA lobby, the empty zones, the lack of LFG. Outside of peak WvW times, and the camping in LA, the world is dead.

The introduction of FoTM was great in that I finally felt there was people in the game again. And the same with the launch of Lost Shores. It seemed as if the Massive was back in the MMO aspect of the game.

But most days, it’s a dead zone. I get tired of waiting and waiting for a group, then get capped for using /M to recruit.

I also joined a guild with a large population. But there’s no loyalty, and it’s mostly about running for mats for legendaries…something I just have no interest in.

In GW1, I found my interest renewed with the release of subsequent expansions. New areas to explore, new monsters, new mileu.

I will keep waiting and watching from the sidelines. I don’t know how ANET gets the campers out of LA or out of FoTM and populates the rest of the world with humans instead of bots.

Like a poster says above, some of the areas are just so incredibly dynamic and full of potential. But they’re dead lands. Such a shame.

Guild Wars 2 "Guilds" is there a point?

Message suppressed?

in Players Helping Players

Bubbawny.8312

Personally, I think it’s insane. I get suppressed often for LFG. Since there’s no LFG tool, the only option is to broadcast a request for grouping.

LFG FoTM 10

is a simple set of keywords that have nothing to do with the repeated www.gw2walmart.com gold messages that hit every stinkin day.

I get so upset at the suppression rate, and yet the spammers, the real ones trying to sell gold, seem to be able to do it repeatedly.

I find that GW2 is very frustrating in it’s social mechanics, lack of lfg tool that would prevent my requests.

I hate it.

Guild question

Bubbawny.8312

Thank you, all!

Glitch, it was very hard getting my first 10 peeps. I did not put requirements to represent the guild because at first i didn’t know people could multi-guild.

I tried everything from runnign with people, helping them do what ever they needed to do, helping them do their story quests, level up, or purchase gear for them. (money’s no real issue for me in GW2. I don’t really use it except to buy blueprints for WvW so I have more to spare).

But people don’t respond the same way as in DDO. I won’t make this a thread like others that exist, but I do find the social aspects to be challenging with multi-guilds, no LFG tool, etc. BUt i’m not givign up on continuing to find ways to enjoy the game.

I solo’d a lot, but really prefer to run and share the experience with others. That’s why I do WvW so much because I just hook up with the zerg and share the experience. The problem there is that yoru groups and team mates are always different and there’s no real development of relationships yet for me.

So i thought I’d try to find a guild that is very social. I just want to run with others. There’s something wrong FOR ME in soloing in an MMO. I mean…what’s the point? it’s an MMO! if I wanted a solo experience, I’d play Skyrim or something else.

So this is just my way of rolling with the newness of GW2 and hoping I find a guild to run with for a while, while I continue to see if it’s worth continuing to build my own guild (probably not).

Thakns for the responses.

GW2 in my opinion

Not for me. I won’t grind ridiculous hours to get something that looks different. If it doesn’t provide me with an advantage in playing the game, I’m not chasing it.

There’s a ton of fun on GW2. Helping others in PVE, playing WvW, PVP.

Yes, people farm …a.k.a…grind…for days and hours. That’s ok. If it makes them happy and they want flaming gauntlets to show off. Nothing wrong with a little things like that to enhance the look of your toon.

but have fun. If farming is fun for you. Enjoy. but there’s a million other things to do in game besides farm.

Gearing my human longvow ranger: Drunkaim

Karma farming is easy. I remember when I needed to get to 42k for one piece of exotic and thought it woudl take for ever.

but the reality is that there aer quick ways to get karma. WvW is a great source. You can earn several thousand karma running with your server’s zerg in an hour. Of course, you can sit on a wall and earn nothing but small amts of karma defending. Running with the Zerg is great.

Farm karma in Cursed Shores, though I personally think it happens faster in WvW. but that’s a good PVE place to farm.

YOu’ll be surprised hwo fast it adds up. Before you know it, youll have a full set of exotics with half a million karma to spare.

I play a human longbow ranger. I focus on condition damage and AOE. Not so great for PVP, but I generally hold my own. There’s some good bows you can get in WvW as well, but you get them by earning badges of honor. I also am a combat healer, and generally am a combat supporter. I’m not in for max DPS.

I enjoy support.

So it all goes to what your main operating style is for equipping your toon.

Guild question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Bubbawny.8312

Bubbawny.8312

hi folks:

So I started a guild about a month ago. Got about 10 people in it, almost all who never represented.

Without disolving my guild, can I join another guild as guild leader?

I hate even asking that question. but I’m done with trying to recruit for now. I’d like to join another larger guild and see if it’s even worth it.

My experience with MMO guilds is mostly from DDO. We had a great guild there who were loyal and helpful.

I tried recreating that here in GW2, but I accept the responsibility that I’ve not been able to attract the players and keep them loyal. My bad.

So my question is really whether I have to disolve my guild to join another.

And yes, I don’t like the fact taht I’m giving in to the one thing I hate about GW2 – multi-guild membership.

but it is what it is. time to stop fighting it and see if there’s a better guild for me.

Obsidian Shards: Fractals or Karma?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Bubbawny.8312

Bubbawny.8312

Fractals farm rapidly as you go deeper. Yes, each full run can take an hour. But if you do a few back to back, you’ll be at 10 – 12 in no time.

I’m not sure if it’s each even level, but at 10/12 you get an extra chest for completion each day.

So while I’d agree, farming Fractals diff 1 isn’t smart, but getting to 10 or to 12, then refarming can rapidly generate a fractals collection.

So I see a lot of negativity and frustrations exhibited through many of the posts here lately. Some I can agree with.

I was frustrated that the Lost Shores events had issues. But I got my monthly completion, and generally appreciated the new content.

I really enjoyed the maps/dungeons of FoTM with all the little achievements (loved bowing to the chained up giant dood).

It was great seeing hundreds of people in LA and Kessex and such, as opposed to few people scattered around.

I think I’d say that the game is far from perfect and has issues that continue to be worked out.

I for one think the value on this game is great. yes, as a level 80 toon, XP and Karma really don’t mean anything anymore. I’m not a gear grinder (not going to grind over something because the way it looks).

I play for the fun, for the experience of it, for the comraderie of sharing experiences with others.

GW2 will continue to evolve and add value that I for one really appreciate.

Again, no the game is not perfect. But for me it’s been great to spend $60 on a game that gives me more than 10 hours of enjoyment. I feel ANET gives PHENOMENAL value for the dollar and deserves respect for what they’ve delivered.

No it’s not perfect. Yes, there are issues. Yes, people will continue to share their criticisms and frustrations, and not agree with me.

But I have been able to enjoy many hours on this game, great art work, great fun…far in excess of my frustrations. And I’m thankful that ANET delivered a very good MMO with incredible value.

Can’t wait for the XMAS events!

GW1 XMAS was a hoot! Snowball fights and candy canes! Can’t wait to see what they come up with in GW2!

Please do something about botting

Bubbawny.8312

I whole-heartedly agree. Enough is not being done.

I don’t understand why they don’t have a ‘call GM’ in game feature that could be used to bring a GM and observe and take action. Seems so simple.

I would also think that simple data analytics could assist by seeing if toons are participating in chat, variety of events, or if there’s zero communication and a toon sits in one zone repeatedly performing same activities.

I give props to ANET for atleast admitting there’s a problem. but like the OP, there’s just so much obvious botting in game that is so easy to spot. Why can’t we ‘call GM’ and have the offenders quickly observed and removed?

such a simple feature. I’m sure that there’s a bunch of people who’d volunteer to become GMs. Offer a set of unique skins, perks. No money out of pocket for ANET. Human observation in the reporting process. Quicker/Instant quarantine of botters.

Get more tactical

I think, though, that by making some group events more tactical would by it’s nature increase the social interactiosn of the game to coordinate assaults.

Have a quick election system to pick ‘captains’ in large events. Then you have small unit based tactics on the ground. Each captain ‘chats’ and coordinates activities with his subordinates, while chatting with the 4 other ‘captains’ on the assault plan.

each captain has a different ‘goal’ they must accomplish to hold their end of hte assault up.

I do like how GW2 has toon equity for the most part. So maybe instead of being dependent upon ‘archers’, ‘healers’, ‘tanks’ etc., it is a minimum assault population that is needed, but coordinated through assault groups each having a tactical requirement.

it’s still waiting around for n-many toons required for a group event. but at least it’s minimally tactical and has coordinated assaults.

I only recently turned here to the forums out of the frustrations “in game” with the lack of social interaction.

That’s great, TheDaiBish.

I wonder if it will come. The thing I worry about is that today’s state of gaming is just unintelligent. There’s an article today on Gamespot.com about games being dumbed down.

The frustrating thing is…what i see in GW2 is an amazing potential to close the gap and be a platinum, 5 star mmo. there’s so many very good qualities about it.

but i guess i’m just disenchanted from how pedestrian and unchallenging the group events are, as well as how it takes no tactical interplay on the group to win.

it sure hasn’t been for trying daily to engage others.

i saw a criticism at an MMO site that suggest the same thing that GW2 is not designed for social interactions as a core part of the mechanic.

Look at group events. There’s almost zero communications required in the group to win an event. Just the intelligent, “all hands to point x”

Just sayin…if there’s a more social server, let me know. Don’t know if it exists.

How is it fun to button mash a champion to death? all you have to do is just wait. There’s no consequence for not playing WELL TOGETHER.

I have been in group events where they didn’t succeed only because there were not enough peeps. i’ve seen peeps group together and get knocked down and dead because they huddled together.

I just find it so boring and unthreatening to just stand in the mass of toons and just keep firing, rezzing the occasional lost soul. There’s no challenge. there’s no consequence. There’s no INTELLIGENCE required by the group to to take down a champion.

Outside of the infinitessimally slow decrease in a champions hit point bar, there’s really no brains involved in winning in a group event.

now given the market demographics, maybe that’s by design. I don’t know. I wish they’d make a zone on the map for intelligent players that need to work together to achieve victory. and make the reward worth it so that groups coordinating their attacks tactically get rewarded as an incentive for doing these events. For those that just want to stand there and button mash, there’s a Kyrian world full of those group events now.

Even when you die, it’s “so what?” I’ll just wait for someone to rez me or go to a WP. There’s no consequences for bad play, uncoordinated play in a group event.

I laugh at the word “champion” when the group events come up, or “veteran”. Right. They have the intelligence of a mold spore.

Look at Crysis and how intelligent the monsters were. They’d HUNT you or use the environment against you.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed my journey in Kryta so far, but this area of unintelligent play is really bugging me.

They could have lower level maps be more button mashing for the noobs, while as you level into other areas require more intelligent play.

Just sayin…I hate button mashing.

Social Play / Guilds

Hi folks:

I started my own guild hopeing to create a group of like minded folks who wanted to participate in enjoying the game together (PVE, crafting, chatting, adventuring together).

i’m finding so far that it’s so lonely out here.

The guild I was a part of in another mmo (think “mazes & monsters”) that my brother and I started was quickly built up of folks who enjoyed helping each other out, socializing, and adventuring together.

Now I will admit, 1) While I’m a lvl 80, I’m New still, 2) I might not be on a full(er) populated server.

But man is it hard to get social in this game. Outside of the often times pedestrian “/map” chat, I have not experienced feeling like I’m a part of a world of player characters. Bots yes. Quite Karma farmers, yes.

if anyone would recommend or invite from a healthy, socially active guild, or recommend a better server to switch to, i’d really like the recommendation.

A part of my fun in an MMO is shared experiences in adventuring and the social interactions that come along with it.

My three weeks of PVE has been 99% solo, not through a lack of trying to strike up conversations, parties, partnerships, etc.

I’m just guessing I’ll get flamed. I will apologize ahead of time if I’ve offended anyone. Maybe this MMO isn’t designed for healthy social participation. seems that way. Even in the group events you really don’t have to talk to each other to coordinate winning the event. stand there, shoot where the mob is moving do (bcause you can’t see through the particle effects), revive anyone who occasionally dies, wait for champion to go to zero health. get karma. rinse. wash. repeat.

i am hoping that by adventuring with others, crafting, building great toons, helping others out enjoy the game, will make GW2 a better experience.

So far, it’s a very lonely one.

I’ve been playing my toon for about 3 weeks now, just made lvl 80. FWIW, I just love the dynamic event system…seems very organic. I play PVE, no WvW or sPVP.

I think one of the biggest things I’d ask for is an implementation of a more tactical approach towards champions. As it stands, group events RARELY decimate the group, making it too easy to be just nothing more than a ‘button mashing’ event.

how about making tactical challenges?

For example:

Put mortars out on the battle field where a champion is spawned. Require the group to:

1. have a select set of members throw the mortars (required for devastation of the champion).

2. have rangers provide cover for the mortar throwers by showering the champion with suppressing fire or trapping him away.

3. have the logic of the champion charge the mortar throwers.

4. have warriors with trip ability to keep the champion away from the mortar throwers.

5. have another group required to resupply the mortar throwers.

6. have champion minions go after these re-suppliers.

I mean, i’m lvl 80, and in all of the group events i’ve been in, there’s just nothing tactial about it. Get in orange circle. click button on champion. attack. help heal the OCCASSIONAL dead soul.

there’s just no challenge to these events at all, outside of waiting for enough players to join. it shouldn’t be about group weapon mass, but intelligent cooperation and coordinated tactical approaches towards overcoming group events.
