Is there a website with Guildwars2 EU server status that we could check when things like this happen??

Nice one, SolarNova! I’ve taken note of those settings and will apply them as soon as I log on for the very first time tomorrow. Can’t wait! =D

I appreciate the reality check, Solar =)
In other MMOs I’ve always been PvE and exploration, so I think I should be ok.

Hi all.

Been reading up on all the technical issues on this forum, especially about how the newer and high-end PCs and laptops running DX11 are having issues with GW2 and DX9.

Well, my new laptop gets delivered tomorrow. Here are the specs:

15.6" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920×1080)
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Extreme i7-3940XM (3.00GHz) 8MB
Memory (RAM) 16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (2 × 8GB)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680M – 4.0GB DDR5 Video RAM – DirectX® 11
Memory – 1st Hard Disk 500GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD5000BPKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
SSD CACHE DRIVE 20GB INTEL® 313 mSATA SSD – SLC CACHE DRIVE- SPEED UP HDD

I’ve so been looking forward to playing this game for months now, but can’t help feeling super paranoid about performance issues based on what I’ve read here so far. Should I be worried? Are there any preventive actions I should take before installing GW2? Or should I just load the game and see what happens?

Freaking out >.<

After weeks of debating which profession to go for, you sir, have been a true inspiration. Can’t wait to create my very first character, a Charr Engineer. I know it’ll take some time for me to get used to the newness of the game and to get to level 80… but when I founder, I shall come back to the font of knowledge that is this thread, watch your videos of awesomeness, and get back in the fight.

Many thanks!

Hello all.

Still working on putting a laptop (yes – please don’t laugh – a laptop) together to play GW2 at mid to high settings. Current specs so far before committing to production:

15.6" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920×1080)
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Extreme i7-3940XM (3.00GHz) 8MB
Memory (RAM) 16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (2 × 8GB)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680M – 4.0GB DDR5 Video RAM – DirectX® 11
Memory – 1st Hard Disk 500GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD5000BPKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
SSD CACHE DRIVE 20GB INTEL® 313 mSATA SSD – SLC CACHE DRIVE- SPEED UP HDD

Ideally I’d like a setup that could last me perhaps 2 (hopefully 3) years or more (?) before having to upgrade (again!) when future game requirements render this setup inefficient.

Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Hello all!!

Just like Sonic, I’m also new to the game, also European time zone (UK). In other MMOs I’ve always been a lone wolf dedicated exclusively to exploration, PvE and map completion. So I’m looking for a low population density English-speaking world where I wouldn’t mind teaming up occasionally with a kindred spirit.

Your suggestions are appreciated. Sonic, I hope you find your perfect world too =)

Laptop for GW2?

My advice is: take the best info from this thread, then go to (or ring)) PC Specialist (www.pcspecialist.co.uk), and have them build it for you. They have components to suit all budgets, and are quite friendly over the phone. If you give them the GW2 requirements they could help you come up with a spec within your budget that could run the game at low to mid or mid to high, depending on what you choose. Build time is usually 2 to three weeks.

Thanks, Sartori. Going with MSE when my ESET license expires. Already use Malwarebytes (on demand only).

Hello All:

Are any of you currently using Microsoft Security Essentials? If so, how does it interact with GW2?

If it turns out to be intrusive, then I’ll renew my paid subscription to ESET. But I have heard some positive feedback about MSE and would appreciate input from those of you who have it.

Cheers!

Thanks for clearing that up for me, Rampage. I will definitely steer clear of supersampling as I’d much rather have smooth performance with ok FPS.

U will run the game at the high settings at least, may be no suppersampling and shadows at high, but the GTX670mx is hell of a fast videocard.

Hi Rampage. I’m not tech-savvy at all (which means I don’t really know what supersampling means >.< ), but I plan on running the game at medium settings to start off and play it safe.

I got the impression from reading other threads that GW2 is more demanding on the CPU than the videocard (correct me if I’m wrong). But I’m comforted at hearing that the GTX670MX is a decent card.

Greetings all!

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks gearing up for my immersion into the world of GW2; reading the lore, studying races and professions, watching video tutorials and spending hours soaking up all the helpful info in this forum. Now I just need your help to ascertain that my gaming laptop (which should arrive in a week or so, hopefully) will be able to run the game smoothly. This is the spec:

Chassis & Display Vortex Series: 15.6" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920×1080)
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-3840QM (2.80GHz) 8MB
Memory (RAM) 8GB SAMSUNG 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (1 × 8GB)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 670MX – 3.0GB DDR5 Video RAM – DirectX® 11
2nd Graphics Card NONE
Memory – 1st Hard Disk 250GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD2500BEKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
2nd Hard Disk NONE
SSD CACHE DRIVE 20GB INTEL® 313 mSATA SSD – SLC CACHE DRIVE- SPEED UP HDD
Windows 7 64-bit

I appreciate your comments and look forward to meeting you guys and gals in-game.
