I’d suggest finding an open guild to join. Scribing costs have come down from launch and the guild halls have a couple secret rooms you can claim for your own. I myself have a corner in Guilded Hallow with 3 floors, a fireplace, and a dock!
That sounds awesome! I hope I can find a guild then to try out this feature for myself! Individual player housing is still something I want to see come to fruition!
For those who don’t understand why people would want housing- you’re dealing with a multifaceted game that features PvE content, both open world and dungeon/raiding, different flavors of PvP, and Guild Hall progression with construction tools. This MMO is a variety of flavors and while not everyone wants to sample them all, the variety is what makes the world of Tyria so enjoyable.
I’m all for updating WvW, PvP, and more raids, though I do little of that content. I still want housing to be a feature.
They’ve demonstrated their version of housing in Guild Halls- if that system was scaled down for a player instance with furniture that’d be great. I honestly don’t care what additional features come with it- everyone wants something different.
I hope most will agree the current home instance doesn’t satisfy the term “housing” no matter what your desires.
Heart of Thorns gave us a great taste of the potential of customizing a home space with the scribe and decorating functionality. While it has its limitations and areas for critique, I feel it’s a good feature. That is if you have a guild and you happen to have the permissions to place things.
I’m not complaining about the feature in Guild Halls. I understand scribing takes a lot of resources and time. But still, as a housing enthusiast exploring that feature for someone who is a casual with no guild, I feel I’m missing out big time on the only offering for decorating a “house.”
I’ve been wanting Guild Wars 2 housing since it launched in 2012, and it’s still true today. I’m hoping we can get a scaled down version of decorating the guild halls for an individual player house. I already have all the nodes and features I can get out of the personal home instance, but it’s a far cry from a legitimate housing system.
I’m hoping the next expansion will expand this feature for proper player housing.
I don’t mind the timer length. But can we at least see the timer?
Such an inconvenience to stand around waiting, when we could plan accordingly based on the ticking clock.
Does anyone else not like that the ore comes through the wood flooring?
I love the idea- but the placement is terrible. Literally a few feet away onto the dirt or a ground modification for that area- would look fine.
I know its sweating the small stuff, but it bugs me.
This doesn’t seem to be a topic that comes up much-
But do you think the minis could be used for a new Polymock game? Collecting these little “toys” gets sweeter if they each have abilities and can battle. A little similar to GW1.
Minis are pretty useless right now especially since its a pain to even take them out and keep them out in the game.
If our collection could become the game pieces to fight NPC challengers and other players…I know minis would take on a whole new popularity.
Steam powered burning motorcycles for Charr.
Golems for Asura
Horses for humans.
…Bigger Norn for…Norn…
…Plant…cars…for Sylvari…
huh
Looking at the assets in the Home Instance leaves a lot to be desired as well. I feel sorry for the Norn- making a house work in The Great Hall wouldn’t work. At least with the other races there’s enough blocked off area to maybe warrant an extension…like a doorway to a housed instance.
We have the option of adding a Quartz node to it now with the recent Bazaar achievements, but it still doesn’t make it feel any more livable.
If you look at all the great little knick-knacks and doo dads Anet has created though, the potential for decorating a home is limitless. From steam powered benches to war maps- there’s a lot of cool stuff that would be awesome to collect and arrange.
Once again, I only see the addition of housing as a reason to stay even more involved in the game. Logging in to mine that node is a step in the right direction. Imagine logging in and showing off all your cool furniture from Achievements- sets of armor…dungeon trophies.
A lot of potential.
I know this is one of those features that gets requested a lot. But even more so now with the release of additional gem store armors- I really would like a “cosmetic” option for gear. Throw in the armor on top of your stat gear.
I know this renders Transmutation stones useless, but…
There comes a point when I can’t decide which armor I want my character to be wearing. Fractals/Achievement Rewards/Living World Rewards/Gem Store/WvW armors…there’s a lot of cool-looking cosmetics that we have to pick and choose from. And what keeps me from buying more is having to transmute all of my current gear in a confusing expensive transmutation dance just to get a fresh look while retaining all the armor I worked hard for.
I know I can’t be the only one with this problem. Do we really have to keep five sets of high stat armor all tricked out just to have a wardrobe?
More to do in the Home Instance- a reason to come back day after day. That seems right on track with ArenaNet’s Living Story ideals!
Very excited about these rewards!
This is exactly what I was thinking while I did a spit take reading about the node.
I’m always glad to see support for these ideas. And I hope its not a stretch from ArenaNet’s vision, but we can’t really know. I expect they get tired of hearing the same suggestions over and over again, but I’m sure they expect it as part of the job. Whether or not its being worked on and they’re smirking at our curiosity reading the forms, the support in previous threads since launch has definitely made some sort of impact.
Here’s hoping!
The search feature isn’t picking up the old topics for me- so I want to show my support for player housing and guild halls.
Guild Halls seem like the more realistic expectation considering they’re in GW1. I imagine they’d just be fancy PVP maps with little customization so you can’t create obstacles that would break gameplay…but personally I’d prefer just a meeting spot where you could drag earned assets around (guild bank/vendor) and create some extra flavor with chairs/tables/rugs…
I’ve never been much for housing, but after recently playing other games with housing features, I believe ArenaNet could put their own spin on a housing feature: be it a personal abode or a shared guild hall.
But why add housing? How does it even serve a purpose in the game? Well, what is attractive to me is that the items you get to decorate your house can be rewards by doing almost anything in game. Take down a dragon? Plant its tooth in your Guild Hall. Kill the bandit king? Take his throne for your home.
Crafting, questing, leveling…and putting items in the Gem Store. It creates even more reasons and ways to play- and it gives you a physical representation of certain achievements.
Not that I care about all that- I just want to play house. But I want to play house in a living world. Invite them over for tea, light a fireplace karma buff, and then go on a hunting party for taking down veterans.
One of the excuses for no player housing I see a lot of is that adding housing takes away from people playing in the actual game world. And that if everyone is in their town putting up curtains and selling stuff through their personal auction house…that the game landscape is barren. But, considering you can repair/vendor/bank anywhere at anytime in Guild Wars 2…it really doesn’t matter.
That’s why instanced maps seem to make more sense to me…because ArenaNet might want to involve combat in these areas. Maybe your town has to fend off random events. Maybe every week a new peril strikes and you and your townsfolk have to take up arms against centaurs or Skritt. These townships themselves become mini maps to explore, and players craft cities on top of them…and around (or through) dangerous areas. Build your tower next to that Ettin cave if you want…but…y’know…expect Ettins to come to bakitten down.
Player run communities in the form of instanced towns is an even better substitute for hollow instanced housing- as an MMO, staking out a claim in the world and sharing it in a virtual environment with other people keeps you coming back. You spend ungodly amounts of time in this world- why can’t you have something that feels like you made a mark on the landscape? Even if it is just a replicated Kryta landscape instance?
I love the game and I feel the mechanics we already see in WvW could make for some interesting and unique housing or guild halls. Whether combat happens or not in these towns or guild halls- I think the idea is still relevant.
Anyway, this is just my support being voiced. I do remember reading housing/guild halls weren’t a feature to expect anytime soon, but I do encourage the pursuit of them…the fun quality-of-life stuff goes a long way in an MMO. It is why things like sports, polymuck, or mounts are so appealing.
And why people will buy Quaggan hats and play Super Adventure Box.
Semi-irrelevant fun stuff to mix up the gameplay is awesome. And I do think ArenaNet has made some great early progress in fleshing out these extra activities.

6 individual skins
I’d like to know as well!
-More quaggan anything is a good thing.
-More weapon/armor skins. Even a random weapon from a pool in a chest would be better than the current iteration with illusive claim tickets!
I have to say…I’d buy a lot more minis if Polymuck was introduced.
And specialty guild halls. Buy your guild an airship meeting place instance with vendors/etc. That would be awesome. ADD GUILD HALLS. And housing. And then fill the gem store with lamps and statues. I’ll buy it all and decorate my home.

“109641_0697 Chop-It-All! Unlimited Logging.Limited Sale!”
The name alone speaks of some kind of automated chopping device. So maybe we can expect some steampunk flavor?
I was thinking about this too. But last night I was doing a personal story on an alt which had me go to The Crow’s Nest Tavern in LA and after a few minutes of checking out the window view- the Dragon Bash music started playing! Check it out!
This leads me to believe that maybe we’re going to see an event in the tavern this month? Especially since that’s where the Pirate Captains are suppose to have their meetings.
Same here- I should have 8 achievements. If those Dragon Ball achievements don’t count towards it- I’m not sure how we’re suppose to get enough.
Even if it is just the new title screen instrumental- would be pretty awesome!
We are always adding new items to the gemstore and plan to do so. I have my own plans for the goldsellers, they just don’t know I’m coming for them yet.
You guys crank out the cool stuff and I’ll buy it.
-For the record…the gold spam in GW2 is so sparse compared to other MMOS, I hope you guys can eventually snuff it out entirely- or close to it!
Have to agree- we have quaggan and charr backpacks we can wear in battle- and bright pink and purple dyes being used on heavy armor- is it such a stretch to let us wear town clothes in battle?
My thinking is that maybe with the addition of Polymuck a new interface may arise as the WoW mini pet system.
I’d love a short-term solution to minis in the form of the game remembering which one you have out when you enter a new map. That gets pretty annoying.
But of course I also support the idea of a designated mini slot (or a mini-menu like the ranger pets) so we’re not hogging up bag space.
Looking forward to more books. It’s a great idea and I’ve started my share of dance parties!
I think the events keep getting a little better with each month!
I agree that Flame and Frost seemed to drag out a little too much with too sparse content in the first few months, but that last update really hit a good spot for me.
You guys are doing something I’ve never seen an MMO do with monthly content- and it’s exciting to think of what the future will hold as time goes on and the teams get into the swing!
This may not be a problem for everyone, but in certain situations like mine- it is.
I made the friendly but terrible mistake of sharing my username and have had to live with the fact that I have 70+ followers. I shot myself in the foot because I’m a pseudo-celebrity and now I have fans that follow me.
I thought at first it wouldn’t be that much.
My problem is my name has been shared and shared again and you wouldn’t believe the amount of whispers I get. I don’t run a guild or anything, I’m just someone who can’t devote all their time to responding to whispers. I explain my situation over and over again to the fans- that I’m far too busy to be able to talk with each of them. I’m as nice as I can be…and I’ve tried to own up to my mistake. But it does feel like I’m being punished.
I have maybe 3 hours a day to play if that…on a good day due to my profession. An hour or two responding to folks can take up all that time. Though I have been told I’m being too generous with my time- I can’t realistically get all these people to understand my situation…even if one or two folks get it.
Because they can see what map I’m on too- inevitably if they don’t get a response to their whisper, they’ll track me down in game.
Y’can’t be mean to these guys. There are some stalkers in every MMO, but what I have is just an abundance of nice people who if I don’t respond to I’m sure are a little crushed.
Blocking these folks is bad because they have their friends write me e-mails saying “I thought you were nice, but now I’m not so sure.”
Once again, this problem only affects probably a few people…but it’d be nice to -at least- have the ability to approve followers before they can track your online presence.
Or I guess I should just be a jerk. e_e
I believe in the Art of Guild Wars 2 book they talk about the Tengu being one of the forerunners of the original playable races. I know there’s concept art that exists showing tengu designs that incorperate a lot of different type of birds.
I’m sure they’ll be one of the next playable races.
