My opinion on the cartoony style, but in the end I think it’s the game engine not able to handle detailed armor and so on like in the concept art, on a LS side check my post I talk about it.
I can understand that, as well for the toy sword that jiggles but those are personal things in my opinion, I don’t need to buy them (or craft it in the case of the legendary) if I don’t want to and something as small as a weapon doesn’t make that much of an impact, not as much as in LS, on a small note, I wish armor would take a more serious design, they don’t seem very though out, at least not compared to many other games, especially Korean games, they have brilliant epic armor.
This picture is from a game called Bless, all tho you can’t see the armor much in this specific picture, you get the idea. Sadly I think most of this problem including making maps and characters more eerie is partly due to the game engine not being able to make such things possible.
Question is in the title, what do you folks think.
Personally it seems to me that currently gw2 is taking a cartoony approach , communication between NPC’s and other NPC’s or yourself in LS for example seems like they try to be very child friendly about it, most likely cause they want to bring in a younger audience.
The clearest example I can give upfront without much though is Scarlet, all tho this is not a hatred thread on Scarlet directly, this is an example of the use of cartoon like personalities in GW2.
Scarlet basically has the personality of Woody woodpecker with murderous intentions, she has (no offense to the voice actor) a goofy voice that’s trying so hard to be psychotic but is coming out like childish villain (plus some actual graphic language on some occasions.) you’d see on the shows of cartoon network 10 years ago. It may be that they’re going for a Joker type character but I don’t think they should touch that, I won’t get into a batman discussion.
Now I personally wish GW2 would stay in the more realistic darkish atmosphere, not entirely but on the right occasions definitively. Did anyone ACTUALLY get an eerie dark feeling from the nightmare of towers or was it like, yeah this guys are evil and didn’t feel the true “nightmare” part of that tower, except for the explosive flowers, those were a pain. Example for Halloween, it’s a celebration (for a murderer) that they chose to go with actual plastic spiders and a mad king we can’t help but to like for his over the top humor, nothing wrong with that personally because he’s not an actual threat and well if we’re going to make this a year celebration why not make it more up lifting in some way.
I think the ways they could fix this (for future LS’s revolving evil) is with eerier music (dark and slow most of the time), enemy character design and map design (lighting) . Make the conversation truly what they should be, you’re in a bad situations with extremely dangerous creatures, this ain’t a “game”. I think hardcore gamers will appreciate that.
Tho most of what I said was about the LS, what do you guys think, do you like cartoonish or do you like a more serious story line and environment. If not why, if you agree why.
Anything and everything, please discuss!
How would people feel if, instead, there were some additional unlocks you could get as a guild commander that only displayed to people in your guild? Maybe if you are in guild only mode on your tag you have some additional tools?
I think that for now it would be a fair deal and if possible with the other concept of counting supplies to be easier. The whole red tag for defensive commanders and green for offensive idea can be saved for another time, what we need now is a way to see supplies better, be able to have a pin option that only your guild can see and have the option to assign a lieutenant.
The rest can come with time and to be honest if people did assign lieutenants while they’re leading a massive zerg it would be someone from their guild.
So recap on what I think we need NOW is:
– Make pin invisible to guild only.
– Easier supply check method, one without needing to type if possible.
– Ability to assign a lieutenant while in guild hiding pin mode or not.
Edit – And also less chat suppression for commanders.
This is what I personally think we need most, it will help separate zergs a little by helping guilds group up and do their own raiding while one general player based pin can do the rest. The rest can come with time, for example an option to show different colored pins, we will have to deal with communicating in TS between commanders on coordination.
I mostly understand what you’re saying, but seems like once people resolve to buying gems with real money it will be to late for those who try to do it with gold in game.
Unless I miss understood you comment, this system is made by the Devs couldn’t they simply set the price for 100 gems at example: 8g. Instead of this system of buying gems from those who sold them, the Devs make the gems in the first place so I don’t see the problem, they can make any amount of gems/gold appear at will so stock on gems should never even be a problem.
But again on your comment about people might resort to buying gems making the pool go up, if it were to be true it doesn’t seem to be working so far. Probably do to the fact the TP is coming out with things people want due to their limited time offer. In conclusion I still believe the devs need to make something happen now, cause this is becoming quite painful for those who try to farm their way into awesome items.
So my question is quite simple; Will the price of gold to gems conversion going to keep rising or will you decide to keep it at a certain amount?
Many will say “What ever man farm for it, it’s not free.” I agree on that, but my worry is seeing how it was 6g a month ago and now it’s at 8g 87s, that is a drastic increase rate. At this rate gold to gems conversation might be 100g for 100 gems mid year of 2014. I don’t see any evidence of it decreasing, in fact to the contrary.
This pushes players, who get there gems through game play, to the edge of a ledge. Either jump and buy actual gems with money or stop where you’re at, at the edge and never convert gold to gems again.
To me and I don’t doubt many others, is a situation where both options are bad. I don’t want to not get anything from the gem store but it is getting harder and harder to do so I personally refuse to farm 100g for 100 gems (this is an exaggerated example.). But I don’t want to pay actual money for skins and other items in a video game.
I’m sure many of you can agree if not everyone, sure you might be okay with paying actual money and might give that excuse “Well get a job man it’s not hard.”. Lets be honest, that is a ludicrous excuse to paying real money. But hey if you wish to pay money for in game stuff, be my guest I won’t judge you, if you believe you can buy gems and it won’t effect your real life economic situation then cheers man go right ahead.
I feel devs should decide on a number where gold to gems conversion to remain at (same for gems to gold but I’ve never really used that system so I can’t really say much about it). I understand some reason behind the increase is the fact it is easier to get gold now. But Not nearly enough to justify this massive increase that doesn’t seem to stop. Personally, 8g and 70s is a lot for 100 gems, but I’m willing to due so if it will remain at that number.
What do you guys think, be honest and be respectful, this is a discussion not an argument.
I hope Devs will read this post, cheers.
The healing signet effects can easily be countered and when you actually activate it, it barely does any healing, it is not OP. It’s like saying that the guardians healing that makes him invulnerable for a certain while is OP, cause not only does it not allow you to do the finishing blow it gives a fairly decent amount of health. I play both classes and I don’t want either of their healing skills to be “fixed” to your standards.
Warrior is also one of those classes that is always in the action, constantly being poisoned and given bleeds while lighter armored fellows stand in the back and give support/dps. To me it makes sense, being in front of everyone makes it to easy to be hit by these bleeding type effects so warriors needed something to counter act it. Bleeding effects can easily counter act it and deal still some extra damage. It is simply reduced.
This is my two cents, I agree with everything he said, I think it would be hard for them to push a dragon and new region like the crystal desert out so quick, but who knows. And to those who say that the regions will change example lets say Orr becomes pure again from the death of Zhaitan, I think the way I put up the replaying of the story campaign should settle it a little, once you’re in the mission, for example during the invasion of Orr, IN THE MISSION it will look as bad as it does right now, that is if they change the landscape of Orr in the future. Please tell me what you guys think (the fading away mention like if it’s a memory doesn’t NEED to fade away, it can cut straight to the mission but I thought the fade would add a touch and truely make you feel like it is a memory of the past.

Hey there folk, recently I deleted a low level toon I had cause his skin tone was wrong, being level three I thought might as well, after making a new one I checked my bank to find out that I had forgotten to place Rox’s quiver in, so I deleted it with my toon, 600 gems went to waste. Now this is not one of those forums posts asking Arenanet to give me a new one, my story is only a precursor and an example of many that have made the mistake.
Now to the subject, first I’d like to ask if you guys plan on bringing back the skins eventually and secondly if you guys hadn’t thought about it, here’s an idea. At the end of the year during the Christmas event on Guild Wars 2 why not bring the event skins from every event from that year for a limited time, I think it would be a great “present” for the community, to give people one last chance to get something they couldn’t during the year. For example (so far) at the end of the year during Guild wars 2 second Christmas celebration, you could bring back the Molten Alliance, Sky pirates (once it’s gone) and other possible future skins back on the Black lion trading post. Same price same everything (includes armor skins, chest for weapon skin tickets and other limited time items from the events), simply put.
I hope you folks consider it, as I mentioned I think people would enjoy the gift of a second opportunity :], from either mistakes or misfortune of not being able to be there during the time. Looking forward to answer from the developer team and hopefully the support of the community!
I like their new storing system for their achievement weapons/armor I think it’s quite the “achievement” (queue drums).
I think making rare skins available on it would be a good idea. Possibly implement a way that when it’s equipped on one of your toons, if it’s in the inventory/bank/equipement then it will not allow you to make another copy, for the sake of not abusing the quantity, if money is the issue then that would be the solution. If people would like to have more, they would need to buy a second one which would appear in the achievement menu as for example “Rox’s Quiver x2” so it will still allow the developers to make some profit.
Hope that made sense to everyone :P
Also, I will be moving this thread to the suggestion section :]

I don’t think all old skins should always be brought back. There are some prestiege to owning skins that others can no longer obtain.
There will always been cool new skins to get, but there is also something cool about being able to tell how long a guy has been around because of the skins he is using.
I’d like you to consider kindness instead of seeing the situation as “prestiege to owning skins that can no longer obtain.”. I have all three unlimited gather gear, I also have the dragon wings and helm, no one AFTER the event will be able to get them, but in my head I’m not likr “Tsk, look at me with something you’ll never get.” I enjoy having them nothing more nothing less. Again I’m saying this as a “present” for the community to the people who have (here I say again.) had the misfortune of not having it because they couldn’t. Don’t take my comment as offensive either, not attacking you. Just suggesting you see it another way.
I understand your point of view but you are inserting arrgonace into my stance where there is none.
I have been playing MMO’s for close a decade now and I understand the value of including limited time things players can gain. It makes the things you are gaining feel that much more special.
I am not saying to restrict everything, but it is also a ‘kindness’ to reconize the vets of the game in some way. Something that you can be proud to show that you have been around since the beginning.
Even if it is just subtle changes. If next dragon bash the helms and the wings look a little bit different, that will add to the prestige of owning the old ones. Players that obtain the second gen ones will then feel proud to own their set when the 3rd gen ones come out.
I’m not saying that players coming in later to the game should be restricted in the gear they can obtain, but having little things here and then that can denote a players logevity in the game is valube also.
But you’re still seeing it as a “I have this you don’t thing” but as mentioned by Andrew giving people ONE LAST CHANCE on Christmas STILL makes it pretty rare. Not everyone will get it but again, my point to this is to give people the opportunity to get something they COULDN’T but wished they could of. They aren’t any less of veterans because they had real life issues preventing them from being there while it was available.
Also I am aware SAB is coming back, I read about it and since I didn’t get the chance to play on GW2 while it was active I’m looking forward to playing it this time around, that aside. My topic is more of bringing unique items on the BL during Christmas instead of unique games/events.
And I agree with you Mtpelion. I like their new storing system for their achievement weapons/armor I think it’s quite the “achievement” (queue drums).

What I want is this

We want the things we missed :]
Put past skins in the gem store PLEASE. Not only for those of us who tried to get them but couldn’t, but also for new players who want them.
You should post it on my thread, get more attention to that specific issue.

Bummer :\, just like buying Tier 3 Heavy armor with a Toon that can only use medium. (which makes no sense why someone would do that.) Well……yeah bummer. Thanks for the reply.
Hey I accidentally picked the wrong Fused Glauntlet type, I picked Medium instead of Light, does that mean I’m out of luck or is there a way to switch that….Cause it would really suck not to have these gauntlets on my Elemental.
I simply don’t get any option to invite a friend.
