The Pact will lose the War against Primodus

Technically they already began that with HoT via the lore behind the guild halls. The Guild Initiative is a (sub)guild (of Tyrian Explorers Society guild) that focuses on supporting guilds in the fights against the Elder Dragons, inspired by Destiny’s Edge’s effectiveness.

One theory that began with HoT’s release is that the Guild Initiative will be replacing the Pact, but then we saw that it’s not as destroyed as we thought (or as Anet/writing first claimed).

It could be that it will act as the face of any guilds signing up for fun and disaster, liaising with the Pact. Like mercenaries hired to fluff up the regulars. The guilds get to act in most cases under autonomy—granting a sense of independence while still having directives from the GI (who in turn receives general orders/requests from the Pact).

If such is the case, then guilds could gain notoriety not just through direct witness of their deeds, but perhaps through the Pact itself. It still needs to replenish numbers, and the three groups it comprised are also depleting, so groups who continue to do very well may have members given the option to join the Pact through that route.

Speaking of the Pact’s ravaged constituent parts, It was my hope they could convince other organizations to lend aid along the way, too. Like the three groups helping each other in Brisban (although they would be tied up at the moment, given the Lazarus Project). Or even groups that may still exist in some rebellious form in Elona, like the Sunspears. The charr legions in full, and so on. I thought they’d sign on as the Pact or the PC & Friends Gang cleared each region of the major squabbles affecting them. I still hope that’s the case, but who knows? Seems poor Soulkeeper is the one marshaling the Pact now, and she isn’t even a Pactite officially—in some cases, she isn’t even representing the PC’s avowed group. While her initiative is welcomed, it doesn’t speak well for Pact logistics if even closely tied outsiders have to assume control. So how they handle things here to the end is anyone’s guess.

With those three blocked paths to the west, I’m guessing a meld of the WvW-like experience in this release and a Balthy temple run concerted effort into the next area to be unveiled, oh please be so.

What are your "Oh wow!" moments?

As an underperforming character with several handicaps, my experiences are filled with wow-factor and luck-based victories that, in the case of events involving enemy PCs, must have been quite galling.

Exploration was always fun, and with all the water areas I thought it would be great to just make a water build. Haha, what naivete. No one wants to do aqua events in PvE, and shortly after my first major plunge into WvW the BLs lost the quaggan pit. (Speaking of which, where were they displaced when their home was filled in? Or, as I hope, were the cruel engineering teams just burying them alive—and then appending faux-ruins like Adams’ planet building race from HHGTTG series?)

That said, there were a few moments my offensive/suppressive water combat build proved hilariously overpowering. I remember a few of us in a mad dash to save our waypointed Bay keep as the bulk of our forces were already falling to what must have been every soul linked to the Northern Shiverpeaks server. Or so we thought. In truth, roughly a third of the group was at the lord’s room, and the rest came swooping down from the outer bailey behind our paltry reinforcement group. We were already in the moat though, and prospects were certainly grim. Light Esperia was separated from me at the inner bailey’s docks, and I was forced to go round south, with naught but sharks to aid me. The NSP reinforcements split in half, with one group waiting at the outer walls for our respawning fallen (I presumed), and the other just waiting in the water between me and Light. Meanwhile, our dwindling forces are still holding on in the Lord’s room, now led by Joren Sleipnersen and his mighty hammer, but at this point his forces cannot hope to withstand the assault.

Light is doing admirably against the token groups splitting off from NSP’s 2nd UW Battalion, and I’m trying to keep other groups from spilling around my side, but clearly they aren’t taking us seriously, feeling that the forces inside will be enough for a flip anyway. Then it happens: Joren’s posse wipes, and Joren is pushed back. But he’s ANGRY now, and refuses to budge, slaying peeps even as the place flips. Impatient to clean house, the underwater brigade pushes en masse to me, while the wall warriors push down to Light’s position.

There are now just three Borlis Pass soldiers in the keep, each fending off a third of NSP’s impossibly vast forces. The keep flips to their hands, but it’s YOLO time, baby, and we last what seems like minutes. Joren’s laughing like a madman in teamspeak, Light’s being glibly-yet-somehow-not-glumly fatalistic, and I’m saying nothing because I’m too busy pooping myself in fear.

Light is the first to fall, being pulled into the water and simul-stomped by a mob of very angry people, so now Joren’s gotta fend off 2/3’s of NSP, and that truly is impossible and he dies. It’s not like he was going to get back out anyway, so their blaze of glory is forever etched upon our Citadel’s Dolyak Memorial statue.

I’m left to face NSP’s finest underwater combat specialists, which some of you may know as a silly thing, given no one is an underwater combat specialist. You’re either set for quick getaways or to snatch back the fleeing. But not me. Oh, no, sir. I EXCEL at this, and kitten it all if it wasn’t my turn to shine. As Santa Anna bore down upon me, I slipped on my game face. Packing the best in karma-obtained exotic gear (none of it matching), a rare-quality breather, lunaria and solaria rings, no food or utility buffs, and using keys instead of mouse to redirect (and skill-clicking with mouse because brain trauma affects muscle coordination and synchronisation in weird, unhelpful ways), this handicapped fighter with a sub-par brain held off a force (and even killed some!) for so long it should shame them despite their inevitable victory.

Throw me in PvP and I fail hard. Toss me in a PvE champ train and I’m invisible. Add me to your WvW zerg-rush or havoc group, and I’m an albatross on land. But get me in the water and I will make you cry.

I’m totally useless.

Borlis Pass has taken a beating since then, and both Joren (THE Joren, j as in “jump” instead of in “fjord”) and Light (Shiva) have departed us. But that day I will remember and treasure. I love protracted battles the most, not insta-caps. Too many people want the fast caps and the party-melts. I want classic Die Hard beatdowns, where the pummelings last for 96 minutes a stretch.

Sorry for the rant, but I loved that moment a lot.

All of the crystal segments were silent for me. I just saw a few scenes of a guy bending down, and one where he got an egg. Then the Detective Duo used exposition to thankfully interpret what I’d been seeing.

Is it not possible Caithe is the one who called down this attack? She’s shifty and full of secrets. Or maybe Anise isn’t human, but a sylvari from times passed, and is seeking to undermine humanity and the rebel veggies to appease her mouldering master of the compost heap.

Glint's offspring inside the Zephyrite ship?

in Living World

Posted by: Canker Bush XI.7423

Canker Bush XI.7423

Since one of her offspring was in Elona, do we honestly think the Zephyrites have one? Do we even know if it’s under Kralkatorrik control? Could it be the Shatterer? So many questions.

They did travel the world. Also flying ships bubbles might not be blocking them

Actually i said elona which is wrong, sorry.

I’d find it really hard to believe they’d be carrying around a (most likely large) dragon. Glint did have a lot of eggs though, they might be toting some of those around.

Still makes me wonder if the Shatterer is one of glints offspring.

As I said in an earlier post. After a long discussion in the lore forum, the consensus is that the Shatterer is not one of glints off spring. If a dev wants to swoop in and tell me I’m wrong that would be great. But until then most people I’ve spoken to thing the Shatterer is just a construct, as it’s body is different to that of Glint, but the. This could just be a redesign. But with that’s said. With the speculation that went on I’m sure we’d know by now if the Shatterer was.

The model, you’re right, doesn’t fit. But, there was a child, so where is it? Well at least one we know of. Also curious as to who helped bring that child into being? Kralkatorrik? Not really possible as he was asleep. One thing i really wish anet would do is tie some of this lore together. I mean could Primordus, get a glint baby? He was one of the first elders to awaken… Maybe my lore is rusty and dragons are asexual and i’m totally missing that.

I’ve always thought of Glint as asexual. As the dev’s said back in Guild Wars 1 that Glint was a different dragon to Kuwalavang, or what ever his name was(the dragon in factions). Or they could be Kralkatorrik’s eggs. And Glint was guarding them but over time, wanted to turn them against Kralkatorrik? The speculation could go on for ever, so to stop my self from getting a bad head, I’ve decided Glint is asexual.

Thinking back on this, i remember a post on guru several years ago, so i dug it up.

Regina Buenaobra said:
The way our lore folks explained it to me was that the “lesser” (e.g. humans, charr, asura, etc.) races attribute gender to the dragons, because mortals like to categorize things. We put things into boxes to better understand them, and this includes attributing gender to forces of nature like the elder dragons. The dragons have no true gender, at least not as humans or char understand gender. However, mortals refer to most of the dragons with male pronouns. (Personally, I like the idea of referring to Kralkatorrik with female pronouns, but it’s not accurate to refer to Kralkatorrik as such.)

Interesting. So they are asexual. So the only question left is do the Zepherites have the eggs or a baby?

That wasn’t what was said. It’s also possible they’re hermaphroditic in much the same way as worms—they have both sets of reproductive organs, but tend toward (or are required to) mating with others and doubling the squirm pool. Or maybe they are asexual, but reproduce through “budding” like hydras or rolling up balls of draconic dung and offering up a benediction monthly until the internal magic-infused poo-center liquefies and forms stem cells. I think I like that origin better.

Everything about quaggans is meant to evince sympathy, from their plight to their cutesie gurglings. But they are barely better than Jar-Jar Binks, in that they are sometimes useful. However, the only good quaggan is an icebrood quaggan—and we just cannot have those.

What to do?…

First we will need to round them up into concentration camps. Then we will need to select the dumbest and plumpest and exterminate the rest. The dumb and fat get cloned and bred by asurans to be used as battle fodder for the unruly hylek; blubber fuel for streetlamps; seafood for charr, and pet-slaves for humans. This unifies a great many races together. The norn can use them as defenseless bait for krait, since krait are the most frustrating race and need extinction just as badly. The grawl can use them as sacrifices, the dredge for baiting unknown underground aquaterrors, the skritt for recovering stream shinies, and when all are sated, just kill ’em all.

With so much unity in Tyria now, the Pact can make a stand against all draconic and sundry. I’m sure this would make for a great Living World exercise.
