2 x GTX 680 SLI / 512GB SSD / 2TB HDD / Win 7
5.1 THX Optical Speakers / 120hz BenQ Monitor
I realise 690s are dual core cards mate, but that doesn’t make it a quad SLI. That would mean you had 4 GPUs.
Just saying.
That is a little hotter than I would like but it’s not unheard of. Your fans want to be at 100% at that temp really.
I have MSI Afterburner installed, so if my GPU’s go above 80 then the fans spin up to 100%.
GPU’s can survive at that temp comfortably in my experience, but it’s hotter than you would want it to be.
Install MSI Afterburner and see if the fans at 100% keep the temp down. The fans btw being at that speed is no issue at all.
Get rid of the AMD card and get yourself a GTX 690.
If money is an issue then fine. But if it isn’t, get a GTX690. It absolutely destroys any AMD card.
Also, it’s worth noting, if you want frame rates above 60fps, you will need an 120mhz monitor. Otherwise any fps rates you are getting above 60 are pointless, as your monitor cannot physically draw them that quickly, which is what screen tearing is.

@deltaconnected – Machine specs in my sig mate.
Make sure you update the firmware too. I had some problems with mine before I did that.
3dmark is just useless,Look at my high score in 3dmark!!! yet i run games like crap..
There is nothing wrong with 3D Mark. The game is badly optimised.
This is mine anyway.

Your PC is performing properly.
Is the firmware fully updated?
People are saying that because they are garbage mate.

There you go, read that. That core you’re are getting is below any high end i7 900 series.
Basically the intel cores take a huge dump on the AMD counterparts.
The performance per core on that CPU is absolutely terrible. If you like I can link you many more tech websites that have tested them endlessly.
Sandybridge or Ivybridge and you are laughing.
But it’s up to you, just trying to help.
I don’t agree that GW2 is poorly optimised; in fact, I’d say it is quite optimised, better than other MMOs that have been out for years.
Frankly, the OP’s PC is ancient and any upgrade for it would still be ancient.
If you’re inclined to build your own, do so as you’ll get a better value. There are plenty of guides/magazines that illustrate how to do this and what components to select based on any budget (Maximum PC being the foremost publication, making sub-$500, $1K, and unlimited budget [~$10K] versions).
You can disagree all you like, that doesn’t stop it being true.
There is no current official support for SLI or Crossfire. It makes no difference to FPS to have it on.
In answer to your question, the CPU you are talking about will out perform that hex core on pretty much anything as the performance per core on your CPU is awful. Any high end 900 series i7 will outperform that.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
Have a look.
But, this game is not well optimised right now, so you will not get much more out of anything until Anet sort out their game engine.
The performance you are getting is not any fault of yours, rest assured.
There is nothing wrong with your PC, the game is not well optimised right now.
I get great FPS rates in snowy areas too. But awful in other places.
just gonna have to wait for them to fix it mate.
but you can rest easy as there is nothing wrong your end.
Well right now technically I wouldn’t buy an nvidia gpu for this game until you know for sure when they are going to release drivers. ?Nvidia has yet to release updated drivers optimized for GW2. I would definately get a second graphics card as well
No I’m sure Nvidia are just going to ignore one of the biggest releases of the year and just not bother. It makes good business sense to just pass it over. Infact I hear they are stopping driver releases altogether as another great business strategy.
True story.
You need a new computer mate. Not much you can do with that.
You can get an Ivybridge core for the same price as you’re paying for that CPU. Just saying.

There isn’t anything you can do mate. People with better rigs (myself incuded) are having problems too. You’re just gonna have to wait for a fix.
I wish I had better advice, but I don’t.
Just hope they sort it soon.
The only time RAM will affect your FPS is when you don’t have enough. As it will start writing to your HDD/SSD and cause major lag.
You only need about 3GB of unused RAM for effective gaming use. More than that is not going to change anything.
If you want to increase your FPS then upgrade your CPU or GPU.

So, this is my problem, and it’s very small, and it’s not really seen too often, maybe once or twice within I would have to say, an 8 hour span of playing Guild Wars 2.
The issue here is that just at the most random of all times, Guild Wars 2 will decide to “Freeze” on me. Now, it would be fine and dandy if it was just that, however, afterwards, I’m not able to alt tab, nor even get any use of my computer, forcing me to click the restart button on my desktop.
The weird thing is, I’ve only been having this issue, during the last Beta Phase, and upon launch.
My graphics cards are (or were) top of the line running on dual 7970’s, so, I hardly doubt it has anything to do with the graphics department. I have 16GB of RAM, so that definitely can’t be the problem, because let’s face it, no one is rarely going to ever use 16GB of RAM during playing games.
I haven’t noticed anything in the background running, or anything that could actually cause the game to just randomly freeze my entire computer, except one little issue I’ve noticed in AMD Catalyst Control Center. And that would be that the game is almost taking up 99% activity at all times. I find it odd that any game really would take up that much use. After monitoring it for a while, I’ve noticed the temp never reaches 60 degree’s, and always stays around 50-55 degree’s, but this is just like in the some of the ‘Bigger" games I’ve played that it’ll ever get that high. Running at 99% does have me a bit curious though.
If anyone could shed some light on this issue, it would be appreciated. Otherwise, I guess I’m simply going to have to live with restarting my computer every so often, which I’m almost positive isn’t good for it.
Here’s a screenshot I took while playing the game, and monitoring AMD CCC
There is nothing abnormal about your GPU’s running at 99% usage. That is totally normal. Any game that is properly optimised and GPU bound will make that happen.
For instance if I run my cards in SLI for this game they only run at 55%. Single GPU mode runs at 99%.
If your computer is freezing like that I suspect either your CPU is overheating or possibly your RAM is overclocked and you haven’t adjusted the voltage properly?
That’s my guess anyway.
To be fair, yes I would like some kind of info on what they are doing. Just knowing that they have some idea of what the problem is would be great.
I know it’s annoying when you spend a lot on a PC, especially if you buy it for a certain game, at which point it doesn’t work correctly.
I will say this for them though. I played WoW (sorry had to mention it) for seven years, and not once did they acknowledge to me or anyone that I know of that their game engine needed optimising better. All I ever got from their tech support was things I could do to my PC to make performance better.
So at least Anet have admitted it right off the bat. So hopefully it won’t be long.
I couldn’t speak as to how long though.
Hopefully soon as it is annoying and the only gripe I have with a superb game.
I believe in one of the first of these threads that a rep said that they are aware that people are not getting the performance they should be getting.
They do know about it and are working on it as far as we know, from what they said.
Personally I agree it could be a lot better. I am not getting anywhere near the fps rates I should be.
Plus SLI is poorly used as I get no difference in fps rates.
But I wouldn’t worry as their comunication has been great, as has their patching.
I am sure they will sort it, we will just have to be patient.
No MMO runs smoothly on release. At least none that I have played.
i5 2500K is a good bet for the CPU. Cheap and great performance. Get yourself an appropriate mobo. (I think it’s the 1155 for that one)
GPU looks ok.
I think you will need to get some DDR3 with the new mobo as DDR2 is not compatible.
6-8GB is fine.
That shouldn’t break the bank.
RAM can affect your fps, but only if you don’t have enough as it will then start writing to your HDD and will cause major lag.
You only need about 3GB RAM to get decent performance. But that’s 3GB that is unused. See here.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/memory-module-upgrade,2264-3.html
(sounds hypocritical coming from someone with 16GB I guess) :P
One other quick thing to add. There have been recent studies that have concluded that Mac users have more expendable incomes than their Windows counterparts therefore we are more likely to drop more cash in the Black Lion Trading Marketplace.
Wow, just wow.
Intel 3770K Ivybridge 4.0ghz
16GB DDR3 2400mhz
2 x GTX 680 SLI (running in single GPU mode for GW2)
Win 7
306.02 drivers.
FPS goes up and down with updates. Can be up around 70+ but mostly sits around 30-40, sometimes lower. I noticed in SLI it only uses around 50% on each GPU. I assume it still is not set up for this?
The frame rates have not really improved much since beta and I was hoping for some feed back on where you guys are on performance fixes and maybe SLI support.
It needs to get a lot better in my eyes. But I realise it’s still early doors, the communication thus far has been great but would like to hear your thoughts on this.
Because with this PC, I should be getting better.
