4/10 is what I give this episode. The story feels like it’s a Saturday morning cartoon aimed at 7 year olds. The plot twist with little build up aims to provoke shock and awe while failing to deliver either. Two dragons swept under the rug for the sake of not having dragon focused X-pacs, at least that’s how it seems to me. Could you tell the writers to not lock the mature stories behind raids and leavimg the rest of us with the kiddie books?
As far as the new map, the second I saw it was more multi tier nonsense, I just logged out.
I had high hopes for this season with episode one. But to me the storytelling has taken a severe drop as the season goes on. This would’ve made a solid episode 2 but the writing team is obsessed with scattershot storylines instead of picking one and sticking with it. It also reminds me of season one where npcs are doing everything and the player is just a bystander. It’s also sad that raids are getting a far better story experience while these episodes are falling flat. As it stands, the only reason I’m logging in to get them is for access to new maps and more mastery points. It sure as hell isnt for the story.
@Miku it’s not possible, However it is possible to have a chat tab for map chat, tab for say/emote and so on.
How logical is it for Anet to make a channel that functions the exact same way as one that’s already in the game just to appease people semi afk in DR? How would you expect the rp community to react to being told they have to use this other channel, especially when this thread is linked as the reason? How would you get rpers to actually use it without enforcement from Anet themselves?
Really, cause the arguement I’m getting is “I like reading map chat but sometimes people spam and troll in it so could we make a separate map chat for them to talk in so I don’t have to make a separate tab for it on the off chance a guild member say hi in map?”
At this point we are going around in circles. And we are not forcing anyone to read emotes, hence Different. Tabs.
And how does the new channel not force them in a corner? Hey use this new channel so we don’t have to see you using -our- emote channel for your niche activity.
But you are IN map chat. Map chat is also not connected to another chat group. Would it be an issue if /guild and /map had to be all on or all off?
You aren’t forcing anyone to read them that’s true. At the same time, do they have a choice if they want to have all normal visual emotes on?
You have still completely avoided my questions…
How much change would it really be to RPers if /me and normal visual emotes were separated so you could turn of /me without turning off emotes? How does this put RPers in a corner?
1. Already answered this, none because rpers will still use emote and we are back to square one with people too lazy to use chat tabs.
2. By telling rpers there’s a specific chat channel for them to use so the regular playerbase can filter them out, obviously they are the problem and they need to be regulated to a chat channel instead of people not using chat tabs.
Seriously I’m assuming it’s just willful ignorance at this point that nobody wants to filter it out with a chat tab.

Please explain the solution for rpers wanting to keep using emotes and not be shoved into a corner because someone on a forum made a post about it? I really don’t see the reason why rpers should be punished for using in game tools. You have an Anet employee suggesting tabs in this very thread, is that not indicative of their stance on it?
And there would be no change since rpers would use emotes anyway and we are back to square one with people not wanting to use tabs. Unless you want to make a thread on the gw2rp forums about it and get their opinions, but we both know how that will go.
When there’s already a solution to a minor problem in game via chat tabs nobody seems to want to use? Yes.
And there would be no change since unless the new channel was enforced by Anet and rpers had to use it instead of emote. I don’t see it happening, especially when this thread will be cited as the reason why.
I agree with reducing emote range as it is currently far too large. What I don’t agree with however is the rp channel itself because the only argument for it is “I shouldn’t have to change my gaming experience and use different tabs, the rp community is a minority and therefore should change to accommodate me instead.”
The rp channel is the same as emote, only you can turn it off separately, how is that not the same thing?
You answered your own question… “you can turn it off separately”
So, you agree its the same thing? Cause I don’t see a point to adding something that’s already in game other than to appease people.. crafting semi afk in the hopes of a guild member waving at them… because /guild and /tell doesn’t work anymore?
This /rp channel people are suggesting is redundant because it has the same function as /emote. Pointless.
This RP channel that people are suggesting would allow players to filter out the /me text while not turning off the other in game emotes. So I fail to see how that is “the same function” or pointless as this post exists obviously there are some who feel it would have a point.
Obviously the other option would be simply make /me emotes something you can turn on and off without effecting other emotes such as /wave /dance etc.
Of course, the people who have guild members wave at them instead of using /guild and /tell would get the most of this rp channel. Because that’s so far the only reason I’ve see supporting the argument. The rp channel is the same as emote, only you can turn it off separately, how is that not the same thing?
And again, Gaile suggested different chat tabs. Solution is there, just people don’t want to use it in game hence this thread.
There are easy solutions in game already to prevent this like what Gaile suggested. Make different tabs. Someone gave the poor example of people spamming in map chat. You know what I’d do? Click on my other chat tab that doesn’t have map on. This /rp channel people are suggesting is redundant because it has the same function as /emote. Pointless.
Only thing devs should do is reduce the range on /emote.
Yup, figured you know next to nothing about rp. It’s kind of hard to rp and immerse yourself when your character is running around like a child pretending to be a plane. THAT is the forced issue, the character model, the point you keep missing.
All the other examples, rpers can leave the area or take what’s presented in the story updates and use it for rp. gasp Options!
Was this game created for the RPer? No. Is Guild Wars known for it’s April Fool’s Day gags? Very much so.
As to your last line, you’re essentially saying that they can “suck it up” and change their RP. Hypocrisy on display.
Way to twist my words to try to make yourself look better. No comment on the character model? Oh wait, that’s right, you can’t make any argument against it.
Not twisting your words whatsoever. Let me quote you….
True, but the "suck it up’ mentality is never good.
Then you go on to say….
….
All the other examples, rpers can leave the area or take what’s presented in the story updates and use it for rp. gasp Options!
See, ‘Suck it up’ and ‘Take it or leave it’ is the exact same thing. It’s saying “You have been forced to deal with a change that is beyond your control so you must adapt”. Guess what, that’s life. We ALL have to deal with it. The fact that so few of y ou are so loud about it inside of a game is rather sad.
So yes, you are a hypocrite.
And in those examples you gave, everyone had options. Does this event have options? Can I have my characters arms lowered? Can I have the previous character model back? No? Thought so.
But I knew talking with you would be talking to a brick wall. Was fun entertainment though, thank you for that.
The funny thing is that while the joke turned some of you off to a point of not playing today, instead of doing something constructive with your time, y’all decided to spend your day off from GW2 by complaining on the internet.
Good tome investment people.
Can it really be considered complaining if you are amused by it and partake?

Rpers would have an in character reason for being affected. Since you seem to know about rp, please, enlighten me on how you would rp this event, airplane pose, wooshing noises and all.
I think they’ll survive for one day.

Changes in events can affect RPers too. Should Anet take that into consideration before changing events? I have little doubt that the tower in Kessex Hills Scarlett’s forced built and the ensuing destruction of the area ruined someone’s RP. Should that not have happened either, because it was “forced” on everyone.
I had no idea that rpers were confined to Rp around Kessex Hills.
LOL I didn’t say they were mow did I. You can keep repeating that same line over and over, just makes you look foolish.
See, you miss the irony in your own argument. No, they aren’t confined to Kessex Hills, but the RPers that did RP in Kessex pre Scarlett were in fact affected by the changes Anet “forced” on them now weren’t they? Yes, they could move somewhere else, but if their RP was Kessex based, now that would mess them up.
Fields of Ruin has a lot of RPers in it that choose not to go other places. Their RP for whatever reason has them in and around Ebonhawke. Should Anet consult them before changing that zone in the future?
See, one thing Anet was VERY clear on before this game was released and anyone spent a single dollar on it, was that this would be a fluid, ever changing game world. There is also the fact that it is JUST A GAME. It is also April Fools which is a day for pranks to be pulled and “forced” on people. The vast majority of people enjoy those pranks as the amusement they are intended to be, but some of you can not. You think nothing should be done that is “forced” on anyone, but can’t even realize that things are “forced” on everyone all the time.
Wait, you mean the playerbase in Kessex Hills had an opt out feature? They were not confined to that zone for the duration of the LS event? :o
And you say I look foolish. Keep comparing previous events with this one.

As for the role players, Anet created this game to push THEIR storyline. I am sure they have no problem with others writing their own personal stories and acting them out, but they still have to do so in the context of what is going on in the game. During Halloween RPers are “forced” to deal with Mad King Thorn in LA, do you object to that as well? Or the hover peppermints for Wintersday.
I had no idea that Rpers were confined to Rp around the statue in LA all the time.
Some RPers in their RP only go certain places. Obviously you feel that things RPers may be affected by shouldn’t be changed. Why is that? Why should RPers have such a huge say on what is put into the game?
Rpers can chose where they rp at any given time. Rpers don’t have a huge say on what is put into the game (town clothes tonics) but that doesn’t mean that people should have this forced on them. This was amusing for a few minutes, but it grew old. Big surprise that the joke can’t carry itself for a day.

How dare people want to play a game they bought! Quit being so condescending.
I agree you should do the same.
By all means, after you.
Honestly. If you people can’t chill out and a take a break from your regular MMO activities ONE DAY A YEAR then you seriously need to go outside and find something other than MMOs to do with your life.
honestly if you enjoy this for ONE DAY A YEAR then you seriously need to go outside and find something other than MMOs to do with your life. hah
I agree. If people do enjoy this, then they should go outside and not play the game. That’s the point you were trying to make, right?
Also, I had no idea you got to dictate what people do with their time.
This is pretty annoying, i logged in and after 2 min decided to log out and make a post here
Please make an option to turn this of as it is pretty annoying after the first couple of minutes.\
People said the same thing last year when the prank was bobble heads. If it bothers you so much just log out. Go for a walk, watch some movies, call some friends, maybe hang out with people in real life. You will survive I promise.

The game is not unplayable.
And you are also asking for something that is not implemented. By the time they have implemented the ability to turn it off (more than you already can with options) the even will be long gone.
I’m an rper, my chosen mode of play is unplayable. And maybe they’ll learn to put in a option for those of us who found it amusing at first, but quickly became annoyed with it. Sorry there are people out there who don’t want to endure a joke for a day or more, but we do exist.
