So Gnashblade want’s to promote his keys. That’s something he already did in the past, and he will do so in the future, no matter whether he wins the election or not. It’s basically a cheap promise since he doesn’t have to do anything he wouldn’t do anyways, and it will just fill his pockets. Also, by voting vor Gnashblade, you vote for more RNG boxes in the shop, and who want’s that?

On the other hand, Ellen will reduce the waypoint fee for a while, which will promote the use of waypoints instead of slowly traveling by feet. With more people using the waypoints more often, the krewes who research new and improved methods of fast and safe travelling will have more funds for their research. This will lead to more, better and safer waypoints and asura gates which will make life easier for everyone.

And then look at Gnasblades promise of funding the developement of a new fractal about the fall of Abbadon. First of all, it’s just a cheap copy of Ellens idea of improving the fractal experience. A Charr funding a story about a human god? Can’t you see where that is leading? We all now how proud the charr are that they killed their gods. So if a charr is funding the story, it will show how the charr killed Abbadon. And since Gnashblade is a greedy and selfish businessman, he will cut costs whenever possible. So he will just copy the ascalon fractal and rename the final boss to Abbadon. Want something new? Not with Gnashblade. And who cares for some dead bookah ‘god’ anyways. If he was so weak that he was killed, what exactly qualifies him as a god? You really don’t need godly powers to get killed …

Ellen on the other side will fund the research into what has happened at the Thaumanova Reactor. That is important reseach! If we find enough data, it might revolutionise the energy industry. Think of all the great things we can do if we can improve our energy generation devices. New and improved Golem designs. Portable lasercannons for everyone. I know you want one of these! It will revolutionise everything. Tyria will become a better place to live for everyone. With new high energy weapons, the remaining dragons will be killed in no time. Bright and clean street lights everywhere. More and better Golems. And maybe we can even create new long-distance-gates to Cantha and Elona. Admit it, that’s something you all want!

So even the most stupid bookahs have to see that Ellen is the only option here, since there is no asura candidate. Gnashblade will give you nothing. He will even take more money from you. And Ellen will probably lead to a better future for all of Tyria.

Vote for better and safer fast travel options. Vote for new and improved golem designs. Vote for lasercannons. Vote for asura gates to Elona and Cantha. Vote for research into the Thamanova Reactor. Vote for Ellen Kiel.

After 5 weeks of drakkar being the outnumbered server, there are a lot of PvE players filling the maps now because they want to go for map completion. And some WvW veterans are leveling/testing their alts or do PvE for ascended gear because of the lack of a challenge which is caused by the uneven numbers. It’s also a good time for new and inexperienced commanders to get some exerience, and for the veteran commanders to take a break after the last 5 weeks. So if you meet a lot of weak players on drakkar, don’t be surprised. As long as we have these uneven matchups, the leading server will alway have blobs of less experienced players with a lower average skillevel, and the underdog servers will only have their WvW core groups with a lot of experience, so they will always complain about the numbers and lack of skill of their enemys.

There are two sides to it – on the one hand, blueprints are cheaper to buy now. On the other hand, a lot of blueprints were donated to our commanders by players who ran with them, because if you didn’t use them yourself, there was nothing else to to with them, so donating them to your commander who put down dozens of rams and other siege was a good idea to free your inventory and help your commanders. Now a lot of people will sell their siege on the TP instead of donating it to the commander, so in the end it might not be that much cheaper for the commanders because they have to buy more.

And supply is still the limiting factor in most cases, so i don’t think it will change the warfare at all. It maybe will change how much some commanders have to PvE to get enough money for siege, but that’s all.

That is why every one of my characters has two invisible bags to store all the stuff i want to have on my person all the time. Especially my Asura main needs enough invisible bag space to store her collection of mini-golems. But i can still remember how i paniced when my first golem dissapeared in the collection tab, so that happens to a lot of people.

Targetable wells worthwhile?

I guess it depends on your playstyle. I ran with it for a while, but for me personally the wells work even better without groundtargeting, because i don’t have to aim them. I’m running scepter/dagger + Staff, but im often very close to my enemy anyways. With Mark of Evasion i often dodge into my enemys to trigger the mark, and then drop a well. Deathshroud Nr4 is a self centered AoE, so i want to be in the center of an enemy group. And Plague form also needs me to be in melee range, so i’m there anyways, why would i need ranged wells? No matter whether i’m playing in dungeons, fractals or WvW, i’m in and out for melee range all the time, dancing around my enemy, so wells don’t need grondtargeting for me. Also in WvW, when you set a well under your enemy from some range, they will just walk out of it, but when you set it under your own feet and dance around in it, melee enemys tend to stay in there, so i’m using myself as a bait to keep enemys in the well. I’m built for very high survivability and can run in and out of groups of enemy players without dying (most of the time), so running into an enemy zerg, dropping two wells, switch to deathshroud for skill nr.4 , go out of deathshroud and into plagueform does not require range on my wells.

New hide/unhide glove option

I bought T3 cultural gloves for 12 gold yesterday and transmuted some stats on them because you can’t see them with my chestarmor. Guess that’s 12 gold and a fine transmutation stone wasted. But nice to have the option. Boots would be ok too, but chest and leg armour should stay, running through dungeons with some naked people would be annoying.

I don’t want to judge something i haven’t seen myself, so we will have to wait for the update anyways. But just some thoughts.

First the ‘my guild will never see this content’ argument. Everyone can participate in these events, even players without a guild. So you don’t loose out on the content. You just don’t get the guild rewards, just the personal rewards for participating, but that’s nothing new. In a small guild you already don’t have the karma/exp/magic find buffs running all the time, so by playing in a small guild you already descided that you don’t play in the guild for buffs. Yes, you can’t descide when you kick off the event, but in a large guild you can’t either, because the leader(s) in the guild descide when to start it, and there won’t ever be a time when 100% of the guild have time to participate. 1-2 weeks after the patch, the regions in which the guild missions take place will be known, and you can expect to have some event from some guild running there whenever you want to play, so the content is there for everyone.

And then think about why you are in a smaller guild. Probably because you prefer to be in a close-knit group of poeople. And there is no better social glue then working together for a common goal. Make your fist guild mission the mission to get the influence for the required upgrades. If my math is right, you need 73 gold to buy the influence for Art of War 1-5. If you are a guild of just 5 people, you can run dungeons together, and afterwards everyone spends some of the earned money on influence. Playing as a group already gets you more influence then playing alone, and spending some of the earned gold on influence will speed up the process a lot. Yes, it’s harder for a small guild than for a large guild that has more influence than it can spend, but think of how proud you are as a small guild after you have pulled it off. And running 2-3 dungeons a day , and then everyone spends 2 gold on influence each day is already enough to get the influence for AoW 5 within a week with just 5 people. A guild reward for a guild working together for a common goal. And you can keep all the fun you had together while working on it. This is what keeps small guilds together. Large guild mostly are people who play solo but want the buff’s, or who want someone available 24/7 whenever they need someone for some content. Smaller guilds play together becaus they have fun doing something with each other. Both can get what they want from the missions. The players in the large guild get the buffs and the loot from the missions, and the small guilds get a common goal to work towards as a group.

I really like the Honor of the Waves light armour helmet and gloves for Asura. The crystals perfectly match those of my golem. And the Immobulus is the perfect scepter for an Asura.

Never had this before, but the last few days i got it every day. Really annoying when you are in WvW and have to descide wether you want to mute GW2 and play without sound, or restart and sit in the queue.

I have all 8 classes (Not all on 80, but they are there), but currently i can’t get myself to play anything besides my necro. And at the moment i play mostly WvW. Yes there are some bugs and issues with the class, but that’s the same for every class. For me it’s just fun, and that’s what it’s all about. There are so many ways you can surprise your enemy with your necro in WvW, and the survivability is insane, so even in WvW my repair bill is very low. And she is an Asura, so you have to love the little genius no matter which class she is.

If you are in plague form and put a blind on the mesmer his moa will miss. The necro gets full use of their elite and the mesmer has to wait for 180 seconds before he can use his elite again.

And if you use corrupt boons on a daggerstorming thief his stability will be transformed into fear which will disrupt his daggerstorm. The necro has not even used his elite and the thief has to wait for 90 seconds before he can use his elite again.

There is a counter for everything.

It Was Nice Knowing You Epidemic

I play a lot of WvW, but i hardly ever use epidemic. Sure, trolling enemy groups who are doing the grub is fun, but besides that, epidemic is very situational. I small scale fights it’s hard to hit more than maybe two enemies, and in large zerg fights conditions get removed so fast that you dont do much damage with epidemic anyways. Also it takes time to stack enough conditions to be worth useing epidemic, and normally they get either removed before there are enough on the target to be worth the skill, or the enemies gets killed by your own zerg und die faster than the conditions can tick. Running into an enemy zerg, drop well of corruption + well of suffering, scepter nr2 + dagger nr5, switch to DS and DS nr4, switch out of DS and go plague form, then walk back to collect the bags. That’s where the AoE is.

And one thing to think about: I think one of the main reasons for the 25 bleeding stack limit are skills like epidemic who affect all conditions on the target. Imagine an epidemic on the grub without bleeding stack limit → instant death for everyone who gets hit (or any other situations with extreme condition stacking on one target). So i would be glad to loose a skill like epidemic if we can get rid of the 25 bleeding stack limit at the same time.

I’m playing an asura necro with scepter/dagger and experience this quite often. When i try to dodge away im often rubberbanding back to my starting position or dont move at all. For me its very well visible since i use mark of evasion, so i can see where my dodge ends, which is often at the starting point. I’m only using double-tap to evade. I always thought is was somehow related to the neco trait mark of evasion that im useing, but if other classes have the same problem it might not be one of the million necro bugs.

After we fought through the dungeon to the pristress of Dwayna, one member descided that it’s time to go to bed and logged off. We found a replacement, but he always landed in a seperate instance. One of us went outside to see if it bugged and landed in a seperate instance too. Both tried to relogg, reinvite, but no way to get them in our nearly finished dungeon. → 4 hours wasted and completely pissed.

Since it was announced as one-time event i thought i have to be fast and didn’t read the description. So i went in there alone with my necro because i didn’t realize that it’s a group dungeon. Was tough but i got him solo.

When the Mad King died i had a fear on me that send me from the platform after he died. So maybe we should call it a draw? But i got my loot anyways.

Necro / Engineer and WvW

There are a lot of nice ways to contribute to your team in WvW as a necro. One of the reasons why i started to play my necro was the ability to pull people off the walls in sieges, or right into the zerg in open field battles with spectral grasp. And if you can’t pull them down from the wall, bleed them to death with your staff marks and Scepter/dagger AoE. Don’t think you help you side with beating against a door with your head – thats what siege equipment ist for. But you are good at putting pressure on those who are defending the walls, and also at catching enemy players who try to run into the castle/tower. With the right spec, you can perma-cripple foes with your scepter nr.2. Combined with spectral grasp and it’s pull + chill, not many enemys arrive at the door when they try to run in solo. So definetively usefull in sieges.

For defense you have an endless arsenal of AoEs you can place on the gate. All the marks on the staff, your wells, death shroud nr 4, the marks in lich form or your plague form, you can put a lot of pressure on the attackers from behind the gate. So definetively useful in defending stuff.

In open field battles, you can use your staff or scepter/dagger from a relatively safe distance, but when your group charges, you can easily run with your heavys right into the enemy, drop your wells (very awesome in these situations with all their effects like turning all the buffs from the enemy group into conditions …), go into death shroud and aoe with DS nr4, and then catch those who try to run away with your grasp and cripple. With DS and your high hitpoint pool you won’t die in these attacks if you don’t get focused by the enemy group. So definetively useful in open field battles.

And spectral walk ist the perfect skill for traveling the long distaces in WvW, 30+ seconds of swiftness can bring you very far, no matter wether you want to get supplys, want to arrive in time at a tower which is under attack, or if you want to flee or catch an enemy.

And if you just want to see high damage numbers on enemys, you can still man siege equipment like every other class.
I’m haveing a lot of fun on my necro in WvW. And don’t forget you can change your utility skills between battles so you always have the right tools for each situation.

Vitality, Toughness and Condition?

There are condition/precision/toughness sets at least in the Caudacus Manor, Twilight Arbour, Honour of Waves and Arah dungeon sets (I use a mix of skins from these dungeons, only missing the Arah shoulders, and they all have cond/prec/though stats). Be aware that there are 3 sets of each armour type for each dungeon with different stats. For accessoires i use the condition/power/vitality stuff. So i got the big condition damage on every piece, and a mix of defensive (toughness/vitality) and direct damage (power/precision) stats on my gear. Haveing some power does help for things like death shroud nr.4 and wells which i use a lot, so it is not wasted. Precision is also useful for traits/sigils that proc on crit.

Currently my only problem is finding a scepter/dagger with cond/prec/tough stats outside the dungeon sets and the mystic scepter. I want to transmute another skin on it anyways, so buying a weapon with a special skin for the stats and then transmuting it seem like a bit of a waste.

WvW Map completition rewards

Just completed a borderland map on a twink. Got 2 blueprints, 3 transmutation stones, and 10 badges of honour. Since i dont WvW with the twink and just wanted to do map completion since our server holds all maps, the blueprints are completely useless to me.
And i can already see people creating new chars, do map completion on the maps their server holds copletely, put the badges of honour in the bank, delete twink and repeat, sind running over a map to get 10 badges seems faster then getting them in fights.

What about Rosemary and Sage?

Some of the ingredients can only be hervested in certain regions of Tyria. Just some i know of: Dill and Sage(not sure about thath) in Ascalon, Rosemary in the Shiverpeak regions, Sesame in Kryta (Hrathi Hinterlands), Vanilla and Mint in the Maguuma regions. So i would guess that every region of tyria has two or three special herbs that only grow in these regions. Another good reason to explore every region in Tyria.

In both my real guild and my testing guild, there is a problem with the influence that is given for members logging in each day. In my main guild, the number of members that logged in on one day sometimes exceeds the number of members that are in the guild, but its not that easy to see bacause of the number of members, and bacause after 300 influence gain on one day, there is only one more influence per logged in member. But in my one member testing guild, on some days i get no influence at all even thou i was logged in and representing the guild with at least one character, on other days i get one to three members logged in even thou there is only one person in the guild (me), giving 10 to 30 influence per day. I tested to log in on every character to see if it is characters logged in instead of members, but the maximum number of times that i am counted seems to be three.
The numer of days where i get more influence then i should due to ‘multiple persons’ logging in, and the numer of days where i get no influence at alle even it out a little bit, but on average i get more influence then i should in my one-Asura guild. To give some numbers, in the last 31 days i got 400 influence from logged in members, even thou in a 1 member guild the maximum should be 310.

According to his character portrait he was male. I saw his ghost in Harathi Hinterlands in the centaur camp at Modniir Gorge. Also had some pet called Chunk. Didn’t get a better screenshot since there was a lot of fighting around me, and i hadn’t found his ship at that time, so i was not that interested in him when i saw him. Maybe i will take a closer look when i pass by with a twink, but that won’t be anytime soon.

I love the insane survivability. There is not much that can kill me in PvE (outside of dungeons). Running in a group of enemys, often collecting some more to save time, and then kill them with all my AoEs without dieing. Even in dungeons, i’m often the last Asura standing. Ok, maybe thats because an Asura is smart enough not to die, but thats beside this thread. And also in WvW my repair bill is quite low.

I totally like to pull people of the walls or out of a zerg with Spectral Grasp in WvW. Most fun skill in WvW for the Necro. Just wish more people would pay attention to their sourrondings, because often those who were pulled down from a wall just run back in through the whole zerg without being attacked by anyone but me.

Seeing a Guardian that has just popped alls his buffs and is running around with an endless amount of boons run stright in to my well of corruption.

Generally, as soon as the bugs get fixed, the Death Magic minor traits are changed, thieves get toned down a little bit, and warriors stop running away all the time, the Necromancer is in a fine place (At least for me. Im not playing sPvP).

The screen says it was done by useing backstab, so this is quite normal when faceing a thief. I once was hit with backstab for over 21k while i was in Deathshoud and the enemy team had all three orbs. Don’t know how toughness/armor is counted in deathshroud (and i’m totally undergeared), but thieves put out insane damage and stealth/port away afterwards all the time.

For PvE i’m running around with sceper/dagger, and as utilitys Spectral Walk for the 30 seconds swiftness, and Well of Suffering and Well of Corruption as additional AoE. Between Sceper Nr2, Dagger Nr5, Deathshoroud 4 and the Wells, i have a lot of AoE to deal with groups. Since scepter 2 is also an AoE cripple, you can kite all melee enemys, and for ranged enemys you have Feast of Corruption as heal, Deathsshroud to soak up damage while your heal is on cooldown, and your dodge to avoid damage. With all the bleeds, you can also hide behind walls/trees while your bleeds are still ticking when faceing ranged enemys. If things get hairy, you have Spectral Walk + Deathshroud to get away. For traits i go mainly Spite an Curses for longer and larger bleeds. And for larger group fights, i carry a staff to support from the back.

The idea of a drain tank is nice, but with enemy hitting as hard as they do, you can’t leech as much health/lifeforce as they do damage to you. In this game, it is all about avoiding damage, not about standing still and soaking it up.

WvW - Melee Vs Ranged damage worries

In a siege situation, AOE ist really useful since it is a kind of area denial, and as a defender you want your enemy to go away from your gate, and as attacker you want them to stay away from the walls. But as soon as you fight on the open field, AOE only gets those who have not learned to avoid red circles. Even in massive raid vs. raid situations on the open field, focus damage is what kills people. The only situation where i die in these massive fights is, when several enemys immobilize me and burn through my health within seconds, and here melee ist king. Organize your zerg into groups, have a thief or necro pull out a single enemy, call him out as a target, immobilize him, focus him down, finish him, repeat. AOE forces the enemy to step away, 3 melees beating on a player normally force him to respawn. Of course it looks nice to see a lot of damage numbers on your screen, but if those who get hit just withdraw, heal up, and return to the battelfield a few seconds later, not much is won. And to focus down and finish a player, you normaly need CC and massive single target damage. Also burning through the health of siege equipment when you sally against the attackers ist much faster with melee. So i think both kinds of fighting have their place in WvW.

Actually surviving that fire golem is not that hard as soon as you learned to dodge his attacks. He basically has three attacks:

1: An attack that is announced by him slowly lifting his arms. When the arms are over his head, he will fire two flamebolts at every target in range. If you dode away when his arms are over his head and then move back to the place you were standing, you can avoid both bolts. And don’t move backwards, there will be firefields where the bolts hit the ground. As soon as you have learned to see the attack and figured out when to dode, this becomes quite easy.
2: He is aiming with his arms at one player, then fireing two fireballs at him. For me the most problematic attack, since it is often very hard to see in time (especially when you are te only one standing and he is faceing you all the time ^^) and will drain your endurance you need to dodge Nr.1. But it is possible to dode, if hit you should have condition cleaners.
3: He is spinning in place burning everything standing to close. Just keep your distance.

After that fight, i called him a dode training golem, bacause that’s what he is. And it is possible to get up downed players. Just don’t do it when he is lifting his arms so you can dode attack 1, and stay at max rezz range so you do not both get hit by attack 2.

My main problem with that golem ist his ‘cleanse conditions to heal’ ability. Im playing a Necro. So lets see what i can use. Playing a scepter/dagger and staff Necro, there is not much. Scepter 1 and 2 do conditions. And 3 is a low damage skill that ist useless anyways and needs conditions on the target to get a a little bit better. And dagger offhand both skills have conditions. As well as all other Necro offhand skills. Axe has two of three attacks with conditions as well. Staff autoattack is ok, all marks do conditions. Most of my utility skills come with conditions too. Plague form elite – forget it. So its basically staff auto-attack for a Necro. And conditon skilled, even that comes with bleeding on crit. My PUG had two necros. And since the other 4 were not good at dodging, their main contibution to the fight was to run from respawn to the fight and get roasted. Don’t ask me how long it took to kill the golem with that slow staff autoattack. Basically takeing out a complete class from that fight is just bad design. There is no way a Necro can avoid putting conditions on his target. I guess the best way for a Necro to help his group against that golem ist to go /dance in the next room, and use the time the rest of the team needs for the boss to write a warrior-guide for some forum.

My ears, what a fascinating thread. I (Asura/Female/Genius/Golemancer/Necromancer with beautiful, big ears which don’t like things sticking through them) have been windowshopping in Lion’s Arch to find a nice new dress, and really liked the Nightmare set from Twilight Arbor. I’m always running around without a headpiece that covers my ears, because i want to hear my enemys (and i really like how you included the ears in every character animation of the Asura). Now the issue is to find a Shoulder Armour that does not stick into my ears.
Let’s see (Attachment 1):
Flame Legion Mantle – Big burning balls of fire burning in my ears. Arrrgh, fire, fire, fire.
Furnace Reward Pauldrons – A rocket sticking in my ear
Nightmare Mantle – Collar sticking through my ears & hair.
Corrupted Orrian Mantle – Pointy wings sticking through my ear.

And don’t call this an Asura-Ear problem. Our ears are perfect, it’s that human-fit armour.

So i guess i have to go without (visible) Shoulder Armor. With less protection, i have to hit everybody who tries to touch me with my staff (in this case Carrion Steam Staff, Attachment 2). Guess what? It’s sticking through my ear!

Ok, in a completely unrelated matter that has nothing to do with my ears, i’m currently wearing [Arcolyte Shoulders][Shaman’s Cabalist Coat][Rampager’s Cabalist Gloves][Ravaging Cabalist Legs of Dwayna] and [Carrion Conjourer Shoes of the Citadel], and when i’m standing on a steep slope with my right leg on the higher ground, my right leg is sticking through the coat (Attachment 3).
