Thank goodness. One of the worst I have heard in the game, in my opinion.

The Bots of Shelter Gate

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celidon.1348

Celidon.1348

So I’m sure by now that many people have hit level 80, explored the Cursed Shore zone and have passed by the ‘Shelter Gate’ area. It’s a real convenient location, there’s an armor repair NPC, a karma vendor and a waypoint, all located just above Noose Road. Heck, there’s even a couple Dynamic Events that start in/from Shelter Gate, it’s a real good place to farm karma and items… And boy do the botters know it.

There are countless bots in the Shelter Gate area (at least, in the Sanctum of Rall server), some simple variations of an ‘autoclicker,’ pressing 1 button at a time (mainly the auto attack) in order to get the gold participation ribbon in a Dynamic Event. However; there are more sosphisticated bots that may even allow for the automation of multiple skill use, automated loot, and preset patrol patterns.

I know the report option is there, and I know that not everybody farming Shelter Gate are bots. However; I find it hard to believe that many players would be running the same patterns and still pressing their auto attack key 3 hours later in the exact same way.

I’m wondering how both the community and ArenaNet should respond to this massive use of bots. I realize there’s no game that can be rid of bots— there’s always going to be a workaround (hell, most bot programmers ENJOY that kind of challenge). I’d just rather not have GW2 become another Silk Road Online, where the bots were so numerous and in plain sight to the point where one could run a Google search and have the first result that would pop up be a 100% legit and working bot.

What do you guys think? Am I overreacting to this? Should I just wait for Guild Wars 2 to get its bearings before the mass purge of bots inevitably occurs?

So far I have seen more bots on my server, in areas that I am doing hearts than actual players (no joke). It’s a little discouraging seeing this many running around, unchecked, tagging my targets, and looting for no effort at all. I report each and every one that I see, but I end up reporting upwards of 20 per day, not to mention gold scammers (more than 20 per day, and I block each any every one of them), and they spam up the chat channels more than legit players.

I wish this was an exaggeration, but sadly, it’s not. I have been playing MMO’s since Ultima Online, and I have never seen it this bad all at one time. Even in new releases of games, I rarely see this many gold sellers in chat at once. Oh, and at least 3-5 scamming mail attempts in my inbox (in game). If it keeps up like this, I think anet will lose a lot of potential long term players. It’s enough for me to say “no thanks”, because I’m literally being bombarded with this, day in and day out.

They need to do something – and quickly. So, no, I don’t think you’re overreacting at all.

Invisibility detection

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Celidon.1348

Celidon.1348

Invisibility barely lasts 3 seconds, 4 with a trait that barely any thief actually gets, instead favoring pure DPS. Shadow Refuge gives 6 seconds of invisibility, but only while you stay in the circle and the downed invisibility lasts for barely 1 second.

Why would you need detection in such cases? It’s very easy to predict where the thief with unstealth – just check under bridges and around corners. Even more so when you can’t reenter stealth for 3 seconds after losing it.

If invisibility lasted for 10 seconds and more, maybe then there would be any actual use and reason for a detection ability.

The OP asked for confirmation to his question, not someone else’s opinion on whether it’s needed or not.

On topic: There is currently no invis or stealth detection currently in the game.

Teleportation Hack

Not sure if anyone else has seen this yet, but it is a really game breaking hack, especially in WvW.
Has anyone else seen this?

I see it a lot with people botting; teleporting from one mob to the next in an obvious pattern. Most common place I have seen it is in the river below Queensdale (the town). So I can verify that it does indeed exist.

Anything that’s not in my starter backpack can’t be sent to my collection, doesn’t show up in the “to sell” list to a merchant, and will not let me use the compact command. I’m literally having to destroy everything I’m acquiring.

I’m not sure if this is a wide spread bug, but I thought i’d post it none-the-less.

Still banning for public saltiness?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Celidon.1348

Celidon.1348

They are not really banning people for the odd swear in chat. It is more when these start being directed at other people that it starts to be a problem and bans are handed out. So while trying to keep swearing to a minimum is just polite you should be fine as long as you do not start being abusive.

I completely agree with you. It seems to have become the new trend to push what ever kind of limit possible in chat, especially if someone asks another person to stop. I’m not saying that this is the OP’s problem, but this is a good example of why Anet holds people to the ToS. Opinions aside, if people really think the ToS is stupid in this game, they shouldn’t have agreed to it, and moved on.

Personally, I’m glad that Arenanet is holding people accountable for “crass” language. Swearing doesn’t really bother me unless it’s blatantly being overused, but there is no reason to be “crass”. It’s not funny (except to you and your friends, which is completely fine), however in a public chat, it serves no purpose whatsoever. This is all purely my opinion, but I’m glad it’s being handled due to some people’s inability to have a verbal filter.

Are There Any Decent Thief Leveling/Endgame Guides?

You’re absolutely right, I’m used to coming from games such as WoW, Rift, TSW etc where min maxing is important, so I was sorta looking for a cookie cutter type build. As much as I don’t like them, it’s best to use what’s known as “the best” out there when it comes to min maxing in games like that.

I didn’t realise it wasn’t so important in GW2, that’s nice to know. I guess I’ll just learn everything for myself as I go along.

Ouzhyr is right. There isn’t a cookie cutter build, honestly. This really is a game where you need to figure out a play style that works for you. That’s how GW2 was designed. There is no min/maxing because there is no trinity where you can squeeze every last bit out of dps and expect the tank to keep you safe.. You need a mix of damage and survive-ability in a way that works for your character.

Weapon Stats

Posted by: Celidon.1348

Celidon.1348

Those stats are actually on your character sheet in game. Press “H” and hover over each stat on the right hand side of the character pane with your mouse. Also, a lot of the stats are covered in the wiki a little more thoroughly, and you can click on the stat name (should be blue with a link attached). If this doesn’t help you, come back and give a holler.

P.S. I saw that you said you tried the wiki, but wasn’t sure if you knew you could click on the stat names. I have found a lot of stat info when brousing the profession talents and trait mechanics.

End Game Content, Where is it? Also locked map areas.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Celidon.1348

Celidon.1348

When will people understand that “End game content” means for max level. I don’t care how Anet or any other company try to spin the end game meaning, end game is what you do at max level and not go back to a zone you have 100% on.

I’m assuming that you did your homework before buying this game, and you knew what to expect. I also highly doubt that arenanet is going to change their model of the game for a small minority of players who want it “their way”. You may not agree with it, but that’s life.

I say, give them a chance to do something different than the “norm”. I’m also used to end game content, but I’m very open to something new, and would like to at least see what arenanet has to offer.

Got this error too. Has been about 10 minutes and still can not log into the game client. First time this has happened to me over the solid week I have been playing this game.

Been 35 minutes for me so far. Happens about every other day, at least from what I have experienced.

Still down for me.

Player versus player combat is suffering from the following problems.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Celidon.1348

Celidon.1348

I have seen these same problems many times in MMORPGS. The players are bottle necked into the classes, and spec combinations that can be competitive anything else is scrapped; because honestly it sucks being killed even once in a pvp match with that slow motion stomp. Who would want that to happen 10 or more times in a match? Just search for GW2 PVP on you tube and you will see people with noncompetitive specs that die nearly every fight. You take any given team in any spvp match, and each team will more than likely have at least two thieves in it. The combination of the stealth heal move on number 6, plus double daggers, for the heart seeker spam, plus the double pistols for the unload makes the thief a class that breaks the game. Mix those 3 together and what do you have?

Your thread wasn’t very clear, or if I misunderstood (which could very well be the case), then i apologize. Were you asking for PvP strats, or tips? If not, this is a players helping players forum, and not for venting about PvP not being fun.

Does anyone know of a good link or has good information on how to make all the legendary weapons or atleast a walk threw of some sort. Or even just something to work off. I haven’t been able to find any info ingame

Using Armor Sets

Posted by: Celidon.1348

Celidon.1348

This is why I think GW2 should have done what Rift did and just given us a wardrobe tab in our character screen where we can set whatever armor pieces we want as our appearance. I really hate the idea behind the transmutation stones. It seems like just a cheap cash grab to me.

Well, think about it this way. Rift is subscription based, and you’re getting to play an entire game for free with guild wars 2, so supporting the devs by buying a few pieces of clothing really isn’t that big of a deal in the bigger picture. You’d still be paying less in the long run than by playing a subscription based game.

Do Mesmers get any better?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Celidon.1348

Celidon.1348

People say it takes more finesse or skill, but when you have to put in more effort to do worse or the same damage as other professions something is wrong.

I don’t really think that more effort is a bad thing – just a preference people have. Keep in mind, this is my personal opinion, but I prefer not to be on cruise control while staying on par with other people, then again, I need an upbeat play style or things get stagnant for me pretty fast.

I wouldn’t say that something is wrong, however, as Mesmer’s really are a support role, but man what a support role they are! Have an experienced Mesmer in a dungeon with you and you’ll notice the difference!

Leveling

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Celidon.1348

Celidon.1348

Hello.
Since the beginning I am facing one problem – the storyline quests keep outleveling me. I am playing elementalist asura, now have got 13 level. To get this level I had to finnish all the ‘hearts’ (even these with greater level). So I am out of ‘hearts’ right now – the main source (for me) of exp. I got like 70% of vistas and PoI unlocked. Tell me please – what am I doing wrong!
Thanks for any help.

Some advice I can offer you, is to also go explore the other races’ starting areas, and do those hearts and poi’s/dynamic events. It will level you up pretty quick. This is the way I did it, and I didn’t pick up crafting during this time. If you do each different area up to your current level’s worth of activities, then you’ll discover that you’ll have no problem leveling!

P.S. To get to those other areas, you can use the purple Asura portals located in each major city and it will take you to Lion’s Arch. From there, you just pick another portal you want to go to, and you’re as good as there!

Do Mesmers get any better?

in Mesmer

I’m leveling a mesmer at the moment and it takes forever to kill anything compared to my guardian. Scepter damage is horrible. The offhand gun is okay, its phantasmal duellist does a nice bit of damage. Greatsword autoattack damage is horrible. On my guardian I can jump in and with a few swings of my greatsword everything’s dead.

It’s all in the play style, and traits you use to compliment it. Is your gear up to date? What weapons are you using? The Mesmer takes more finesse to really make shine, and is overlooked and dismissed a lot when people don’t really have a grasp on the profession. I’m not implying that you’re having these problems, but more often than not, this is the case.

I would take a look at Vexor’s post above and study it a bit, maybe to see if anything is similar to the way you play, or to form your own ideas based off of the possible new info you’re reading.

Do Mesmers get any better?

Mesmers get a lot better once you progress up your skill and trait trees.

As for the earlier comment about confusion only doing 600-800 damage per attack. That is waay off. I frequently see confusion hitting people for upwards of 3k. You need to use more +condition damage gear. The scepter #3 is a great way to apply 5x stacks in 2 seconds.

One option is Inspiration and Illusion paths and focusing on glamour skills creating blindness + confusion to the masses. Even more so when using a Staff w/ Chaos Storm.

My preferred option is:
The Scepter/Pistol // 1h Sword/Torch( sometimes focus) weapon setup.

The Illusionary Duelist does a massive amount of damage and with traits will bleed foes like crazy. The first 15 points in Dueling are vital. Take Phantasmal Fury as your first major trait (adept) which will give all your illusions an extra 20% crit chance.

Mesmers are not a brute force class. Mesmers are also not an AoE class. Mesmers require patience, and thanks to a multitude of abilities you can live forever (unless zerged by 20+ invaders in WvW), but your enemies won’t.

Vexor has the right idea here in a couple of areas. It’s better not to buy into all of the negative hyperbole some people may express with professions. You can really make any profession shine if you focus on finding a play style that works for you.

In Vexor’s case, I think he/she is spot on in regards to a similar play style I also have, and while my PvP experience is pretty limited with this game (but then again, who’s isn’t at this point?) this post would be an excellent starting point to really getting a handle on the Mesmer. Great advice!

A staff Mesmer can put out some wicked conditions (and boons!), along with their clone/illusion shattering abilities! Mesmer is a very fun class to play if you like a good challenge.

DW Mesmer Help Pls!

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Celidon.1348

Celidon.1348

I’m trying out DW Mesmer, and I have noticed that I cannot use Illusionary Leap outside of combat. Is this normal? Because I would love to use it as a pull, and then just swap places with my clone after she engages. But when I use the skill outside of combat it does nothing, and goes on CD

If it’s only supposed to work in combat, then I think ArenaNet should make it work out of combat for a pull.

Although that would be pretty cool, Mesmers have a wide variety of ways to pull from range. A suggestion I can offer you, is weapon swapping for pulling purposes, perhaps a staff for adding come conditions, then switching over to swords to tear them up?

Underwater battles?

I’m confused. Are you asking for tips for underwater battles? This forum isn’t for general discussion, but for players helping players.

Seeing as there is no general discussion forum, I posted here.
Problem? > .>

Arenanet has expressed that you follow the guidelines and forum rules, which you agreed to, before being allowed to post. Clogging up the front page with off topic threads makes it hard to find threads to help those in need of help – which this particular forum’s purpose is for.

That being said, it’s generally easy to kite underwater (once you get the hang of it, although I’m not implying you don’t) as a lot of professions have an escape mechanic, along with dodging, and the ability to (most of the time) out maneuver the enemy. It took me a bit of practice, but after you get good at it, it’s a lot of fun to fight underwater.
