I think the dodge daily needs to be seperated from ‘dodging attacks’. The latter just requires you to remove yourself from the vicinity of a mob before it damages you (although this is harder than it sounds as they do seem to have a looooong reach at times, in melee) but the former requires you to move away within a certain, specific, time frame. The two are not, in any way, comparable except for the lack of damage received. I can, for instance, get out of a mobs damage range whenever I so desire, BUT I find it a right pain in the posterior to get the kitten timing right for the dodge daily.
So, please, stop insinuating people who don’t like the dodge daily can not dodge in combat. Its more like a QTE to be honest.

It does seem to be a rather lame excuse for a daily chore not working, the multiple users encountering a difficulty ALL have the wrong timezone/time set on their pc, but even worse is making these things determined client side rather than server side. So no matter what: ball dropped….

Hmmm…so as a rifle+hammer warrior, are you saying I have to ditch the weapons I like playing with to make some mystical field? If so then the patch has sort of wrecked a large portion of the fun of GW2 IMO, I liked pootling around doing the old daily series while awaiting my mate logging on. Now I have to go looking for people leaving fields lying about, use weapons I don’t like and hope a-la WoW to get in the killing blow? I hope not, as I had grown to like GW2…..

I have been reading the GW2 wiki re: combo finishers and fields and marshes and lakes and other tat….now, can someone explain in English how I, as a mere hammer warrior, can kill something with a combo finisher? Or possibly explain how the hammer skills I ahve been using interact with this strange field thing, where the field comes from and how I will recognise it while trying to figure out how to get the daily dodge to recognise I have dodged?

Speaking of annoying things warriors say, is it within the TOS to tweek it so that when my warrior is losing adrenalin he does not say ‘gaining adrenalin!’? I know it’s probably not, so here’s hoping Arenanet fix it in a patch, as it drives me potty!!

I have great fun with hammer/rifle. A fight usually goes—>Rifle=debuff/root/volley/auto/knock back/root/auto…swap to hammer once moving then finish off, possibly with back breaker/bleed etc. The hammer auto 3 hit chain is pretty good. With the right signets etc its a very hardy build as well.

I am with Marnik on this one, the only mobs I have seen that are well over my down scaled level are in the Maelstrom cave, if i remember rightly they are 68 and I am always down scaled to 63 or so, never tried running in to see if I suddenly get waaaay better as I have been saving silver for my 2gp skill book and didn’t want to waste any on armour repairs hehe :-P

I run GW2 on a samsung R590: i5 450m, gt330m, 4gig ram on medium settings. Not done much pvp so i have not been in any big battles (by big I mean DAoC big, 100+) but Lions Arch even during the xmas stuff ran smooth. It plays for hours without too much heat as a good side. So anything that tops this should run GW2 like a dream.

2 'toon dungeon run help needed

in Players Helping Players

Cerebelum.6087

Having seen some vids of 2 ‘toon dungeon runs a mate and I who usually duo most evenings decided to try AC. In the vid they sort of cruised it. He is a ranger and I am a warrior and despite using my ’pack’ skill and him having a bazillion ranger pets we struggled with even one of the mobs at a time, well, struggled to take them down quickly. Then we met a ‘monk’ who healed himself so bloomin’ fast we were in hysterics by the time we gave up. I went 2H hammer and almost got him to 3/4 health then zoooooooop…bing….full again and he smacked me down to 50% hp before I could blink. Now either we are really, really rubbish or have totally the wrong builds/weapons/toons/tactics or are just unlucky. Any advice on running dungeons 2 up, are there better ones than AC (my warrior is 80 and my mate is 70)?

My Charr Warrior seems slightly slower than continental drift, plus the lolloping run makes my mate kitten himself laughing, thats if he forgets his ranger speed boost and does not zoom past me in 3 nano seconds!

Selling items via the mail with a CoD option has been in games for years. I just find the not being able to do a direct trade a right royal pain in the a** when I want to throw a load of resources to a mate to help with his crafting and after 2 mails I get blocked for a while due to excessive mailing!

I can’t imagine the 4.5k karma from jugs making it significantly easier. You would need to farm daily jugs for about 6 months for the karma for 1 of the 2H swords. Now I don’t know how much you get for thumping people in 3W but based on previous RvR type stuff on DAoC etc, I suspect a couple of hours, if you have the smallest iota of skill, in 3W would drown the karma you get from a jug.

If you aim for perfection where a RNG is involved you are setting yourself up for either failure or poverty, especially if the items are BOP. My advice is just to chill and not worry about them.

Iron, how we hate you

The iron is a doddle compared to the kitten totems/blood/fangs etc. But yes, out leveling crafting is a tad annoying, although the karma merchants and drops/quest rewards do mean equipment isn’t usually an issue, but it would be nice to craft your own at your own level!

New to weaponsmithing, need some advice

I started my charr warrior with the intention of crafting my own weapons and armour. The ores, after copper, are a doddle to get enough of to level off researching recipes but I am having massive trouble accumulating anywhere near enough of the odds and sods you need to combine with the dowels, things like the fangs and blood etc. I collect every item and ship them off to the bank but even after getting enough gems (and ores) to help a mate get his jewelery skill from 0 to 340 I still don’t manage to get more than 3 blood vials or 4 claws etc. Bar spending a load on the TP are there any decent places to farm mobs to drop the relevant bits?

Being a huge pessimist I figured a prezzie was a prezzie was a prezzie. Ergo swapping prezzie contents for a prezzie was a , generally, losing prospect. Gave enough of my socks etc to a mate who makes rings etc for me, so he could get some recipes. The rest I sold to a vendor. Refusing to play the completionist game I will sell all the silly cogs etc (not that I have an etc, no stuffing or glue) and aim to be, eventually, one of the few 80’s not to own a single mini pet.

Winter Wonderland JP - % that can make it

I am of the view that even if i knew where it was I would not bother to waste my time on it. If i want jumping puzzles I will go and waste money on Mario or some such. So go with the flow, if you don’t enjoy it don’t play that part of the game. Games these days seem to be targeted at completionists rather than funists, sod that % bar, forget the title, don’t get wound up by pixels on a screen, enjoy the parts of GW2 that are fun for you. A mate and I found some jumping puzzle in a grotto a while back. After I spotted the way past the insta-gib spikes I found a bit where after 3 or 4 goes i just could not get the launch spot right. So i went off mining ore for his crafter alt and he spent 2hours perfecting the puzzle, only to find an empty chest at the end…meanwhile I got a ton of ore….

I only started GW2 2 weeks ago, started as I always do with a Ranger. But, my mate had one of those, so at 15 i switched to a Charr warrior. I have not looked back, 44 and purring along nicely! The regen signet makes a world of difference and with a decent 2-H hammer the kitty rocks! Give the warrior a bit more time. I usually go rifle and 2-H hammer as my 2 weapon sets, getting anything that has +pow on it or +precision, learn your skills and kite like crazy!

Ahh, I believe this game of ‘Efficient Market Simulator’ must have come from the same shelf in my local GAME shop as Farming Simulator, Forklift Simulator and Bus Simulator (trust me, they actually exist!)…I didn’t buy them either…now, as for Smack things in the Head with a Sword Simulator, that I DID buy! I do admit to getting a mild buzz from undercutting the majority on thr TP with some green/blue I found but crafting for profit seems like a second job tbh!

Disturbing Dolls

Scary and rock hard! They are the only toys that insta-gib me. A mate and I were farming for materials and had hit a zone that popped us down to lv 11 or so, saw a pressie in the little village, opened it and died within 5 seconds to dolls. We watched from our corpses as they tore through the whole village, when we bugged out to a waypoint a LONG way away the only ‘living’ beings in the whole place were the dolls…

I will, eventually I suspect, spend some real cash on extra bank space and possibly character slots as I do like GW2, but anything involving RNG loot or rares that require real £££ rather than some fun time invested in the game are now and always have been a no go area.
Not once in 14 years of MMO gaming have I ever paid for anything other than the game/play time. I think the ‘I need to complete everything/get everything’ mentality encouraged by % completion bars and achievement lists should almost be viewed as an illness. I appreciate the nice bonus of karma etc for completing the daily 5 things, but just playing to have a complete set of x,y or z etc that seems to be infesting all games on all platforms is not good.

Cerebelum.6087

Ahhh, the lure of rares and collectables. I started UO in ‘98 with UO:2A and remember when a new rare was discovered the rush to farm it. After UO:R made Tram the area round West Brit bank was the ’show off area’. When they made the blue glowy ice worm staff it looked like everyone was waving round blue neon tubes! I see peoples mind set has not changed, now its micro purchases rather than monthly cash so it seems to hurt more. Relax, it’s a game. Just remember its all pixels at the end of the day! It’s not quite the same a gambling in a casino, as here the odds are unknown to the gambler, but set a limit and stop when you reach it, just don’t throw good money after bad because of hopeful thinking.

First impressions

A bit of background first: I have been computer gaming since the BBC B days, my first MMO was UO just prior to Trammel, I have helped beta test and played gold versions of many MMO’s from DAoC onwards, my main MMO gripe is the raid instance/boss. Now to the present day: a mate who I started DAoC with was bigging up GW2 over VOIP as we blew stuff away in BL2. So I finally caved in last Monday and picked up a copy. I started as a Norn Ranger (always go Hunter to start with), then found the Charr warrior…my kitty is now 33 and rising. I have to say that GW2 is probably THE BEST, hands down, MMO I have ever played. Its player friendly (no kill stealing or ore stealing, no ninja looting), its balanced (no gimping, want to take your 30 to a newb zone, welcome to lv 4 again!), the crafting with its discover it yourself recipes is a lot more fun than most, especially the accelerated multi item crafting speed, the quests can be bonkers fun (rabbit food anyone?), the branching storyline quests make it so much more replayable with alts, the different specials depending on class/weapon combo, the way you earn proportionate exp even when down-leveled etc etc. Now I know there will be bad points, but it really is one of the few, if only, MMO titles I would call epic. Thank you O-magical coding pixies and elves at NCSoft and Arenanet, keep it up!

p.s. i reserve the right to whinge a bit later when I hit 80 and try to craft uber stuff, but this view will still stand even then!
