Yeah I’d like to see one too – I’m not saying it’s definitely worth using master’s salvage kits on whites, but when I do use master’s kits on whites I seem to be getting around 25% return on T6 materials, and mystic salvage kits return much less than that
Also, using basic salvage kits on 70+ yellows will give you an ecto much more than 10% of the time
masters’ kits are supposed to be identical to mystic kits as far as performance goes, regardless
I’ve read that black lion kits actually have much higher than their listed10% rare yield but I haven’t tested it personally
I think there’s a typo on the Mystic Salvage Kit. On the store it says a certain amount, but on the item itself it only says 10%…unless they’ve changed that in the past week or so. I reported it through the ingame reporter, but I keep forgetting to post it here.
Suffice it to say, I was rather unhappy having bought one when it said “get the best amount of rare materials possible” only to have it arrive and say that it gave a 10% chance of getting rare materials. I need ecto dangnabbit.
That’s the black lion kit, not the mystic salvage kit. I’ve heard that the black lion kit actually has a much higher rare salvage rate than listed but I haven’t tested it myself
My theory is that when salvage kits refer to ‘rare’ materials they mean one tier higher than normal. So salvaging a 70-79(80?) item normally gives you mithril/silk, but if the salvage kit procs the ‘rare’ material then you get orichalcum/gossamer instead.
Yeah, pretty much; I’m not sure if there are “rare” materials from lower level equipment, it doesn’t really become super important until 70+ when the “rare” mats can sell for 10-20x what the normal mats are worth
It has nothing to do with the color of the item

I just tested this with 25 level 80 white rifles, 8 of 25 salvages with a master’s salvage kit yielded orichalcum or ancient wood. Tiny sample size but that seems about right
After a few hundred salvages by several people the mystic salvage kit appears to be bugged – it claims 25% rare salvage in the text but yields much less. The other 25% salvage kit, the master’s salvage kit, appears to give rare materials at the correct rate. It’s impossible to be certain since we’re just testing against a probability but I think this merits attention
Gossamer and ori are rares now? O_o How are they different from copper ore and jute?
Gossamer and Orichalcum make level 80 exotics, Silk and Mithril make level 80 rares

The trolls in the crevice near Jormag’s claw would be pretty good farming, they’re all level 80 and all melee so it’s easy to corral them and AE, I say “would” because they’re pretty heavily camped most of the time
Also my experience is that the mystic salvage kits actually give less than 25% rare materials, while master’s salvage kits give 25%. I haven’t used a black lion kit yet, I’ve heard they actually give 100% rare material yield but that’s just hearsay
I haven’t tested this exhaustively, it’s totally possible that mystic salvage kits are giving 25% as intended and I’m just having bad salvage luck, but there’s definitely some innacurate text somewhere – black lion kits are supposed to be the best, but according to their text they’re actually worse than master’s salvage kits
ectos definitely occur more often than the stated percentage no matter which salvage kit you use
my theory is that you actually roll for ectos 3 times, which is would explain why you get 0-3 ectos and why you get at least 1 a lot of the time
That’s why I’d like to hear from other people who use the mystic salvage kits – if other people are getting 25% or more rares per 70+ salvage then I’ve just been unlucky and there’s no problem
what are your experiences using the mystic salvage kits, does 25% gossamer and orichalcum from 70+ fabric and metal salvage sound correct?
Everybody should be able to inspect everybody, I’ve never understood the desire for “privacy” when it comes to equipment. If someone is inspecting me it probably means I look cool and/or am a good player that others want to emulate
You can also get power/toughness/vit exotics by cashing in tokens from WvW, Sorrows Embrace explorable and something else explorable
After ~150 uses of a mystic salvage kit (250 use 80% upgrade salvage/25% rare material salvage kit from the mystic forge) I feel like I’m getting a lot less than 25% rare yield.
Obviously that’s not a very big sample size and I haven’t even been recording most of that, but I just went 22 salvages without a single rare and I really haven’t been getting many rares compared to when I was using the vendor-bought 25% kits. Have other people had this experience or am I just having an unlucky streak?
