I would love mounts in WvW but it would need much bigger maps. The maps are small too small right now. Maybe in the future now that we have mounts, they will bring out bigger maps?

I would have the entire ANets team babies if we could have WvW like ESO. Bigger maps, bigger keeps with ‘real’ seige fights.

Does the Scout/"Protector" role still exist?

So back to the game after break and trying to get into WvW again. With the “new” (to me) changes, e.g. auto keep upgrades etc. does the old playstyle of scout keep/tower protector still exist?

This is a role I used to play and I remember there being almost a sub-community of scouts in WvW where we would play an important role in ensuring our towers and keeps were stocked up, escorting dollys, preping seige and even holding off zergs until backup arrived.

But now this type of role and gameplay seems to be completely gone? Or maybe I just haven’t re-discovered it.

If this role no longest exists then this makes me very sad So far WvW seems much more…impersonal. Or smaller…I dunno, it feels very very different (and not in a good way)

Maybe someone can give me some tips on how to play this sort of role in the new system?

Hullo

Could someone please set my brain right regarding Heal as one and boon sharing with your pet.

I’ve heard this can be an important skill (depending on build), but I don’t fully understand how it works. For example; If I have the trait Fortifying Bond, does the important of the sharing of Heal as one disappear? How does staking/duration work when using heal as one?

I guess what I’m really asking is for tips/explanations on using this as effectively as possible. My mind is still a bit muddy on its usage.

It’s early days, but I have to say from the videos I’ve seen, I find the overall visual ‘theme’ of the Rev…underwhelming. I think the best example in GW2 is the mesmer, it has a fantastic coherant visual style to it. I was hoping for a real interesting “From the Mists” theme, but I dunno, even the Legend switching is “meh”, icons above their heads… it doesn’t at all grab me style wise. Hopefully a lot of these are placeholders

not for siting in a t3 tower and puting down 6328 sieges.

Yet this is the important role some people play. Myself and many many others, spend most of our time in WvW scouting/upgrading/escorting our cows/building seige etc. Add to that the fact that the time I spend in Gw2 is 99.9% WvW and not PvE, I actually make a loss playing. I suppliment my income by converting gems, e.g. real money.

I ran with the zerg for a couple of hours last night for the first time in weeks and realised I had totally forgotten how quicker you gain WvW levels/loot/badges compared to the scouting/defending playstyle.

So Im hoping with Anets comment about trying to make defending keeps more attractive, that they also add sometime for the lone scout type playstyle to help us have some sort of income. As to suggestions, I really dont know how it could be done while avoiding “abuse”/afk etc.

One other thing I’d love is extention of the mastery system so you would have the option to grow more into a scout/defender/attacker type role (e.g. escorting gives dollys a slight increase in speed etc).

I decided to pick the brains of those more experienced than me regarding my build.

Here’s the background info

- I’m 99.9% of the time in WvW
- I usually hang around our towers, upgrading/scouting/defending dollys/trying to defend camps
- I sometimes feel brave and go take an enemy camp solo
- I often run from tower to tower to help reenforce/scout etc
- I sometimes run with the zerg, but am mostly solo
- My reaction times are poor and Im an average player, so I need to be pretty tough
- I love the traited speed buff. I can’t play WvW on slowmo
- I get annoyed with switching weapons out for mobility
- I would like to be able to hold my own 1 v 1 or 1 v 2 if I get very lucky
- I’m terrible at theory crafting and dont have a lot of gold so am limited to experiementing by getting new armor
- I have some laurels saved for ascended trinkets, but I have many alts and keep swapping their builds so I havent bought any yet
- Im not a huge fan of GS
- the block on shield has saved me so many times, Id find it hard to give up but Im open to suggestions
- I like the feel of the mace, but the leap on sword is so hard to give up

Current build:
- Is shout heal based which i enjoy as it does have some group support for the times there are other players around so Id like to stick to it, but again if there are better tweaks Im open to them
- I’ve tried it with full clerics and while the extra healing is nice, the damage was awful
- I feel the current build is okish with damage but I hope I can get more out of it without nerfing too much my survivability

So if anyone wants to spend the time and brain power to suggest tweaks I’d be very grateful

[Suggestion] Stat change ability on Ascended

Just a thought. I have been verrrrry slowly working towards crafting ascended weapons/armor, its a long term goal for me. I am ready to make at least a weapon or two but I’ve put it on pause due to the fact that I change builds pretty regulary so I really dont know what stats I want to settle with. I really want to avoid putting all the effort into making something, only to change builds and have the equipment just lying in my bank. This coupled with the specialisations that will be coming in HoT, means for example, if I make ascended items for my ranger and then find I love the druid, those stats may be useless for my druid build

It would be oh so fantastic to be able to change stats on ascended armor/weapons for these reasons. Maybe it would need a cost/time investment.

Just a thought

Any info on other ways to get ascended?

Didn’t see anything and was wondering if anyone came across any info? Since they’re introducing new ways to get precursors, I was wondering if there were any plans on getting ascended weapons/armors apart from crafting?

One thing I love about GW2 is the focus on watching the combat and not the interface. One area where I feel this is lacking is the visual indications of boons/conds. Some work well, e.g. poison, but I’d love for more feedback with the other ones. e.g. stability showing “stone” feet

Would be challenging not to make people look like a badly wrapped xmas present since there are so many of these things in game, but would be nice not to have to watch the indicators on the UI so much

Adding my voice to the OP’s suggestion. I have never bothered to go after a legendary as I feel they are too over the top (the only ones I feel look good are bifrost and the jugg).

Also a huge +1 to them not going on the TP. To me it totally defeats the purpose of having them

I just want to see something. Nothing behind a paywall, but just…something. WvW hasnt evolved at all since release. Its staler than the 4 month old bread I have in my cupboard.

So many dishonest posters in the WvW area of the forums.

-They took out the water and added an entire new mechanic for points for spiking.

-They added righteous indignation to prevent flip spamming. Made multiple changes to it.

-Removed orbs from EB.

-Added WvW seasons.

-Added, restructured WvW trait lines.

-Ran tests for PPK

-Ran test for sword removal.

-Completely changed population cap per server map.

-Completely changed AoE cap to 5 due to massive community outcry.

-Completely changed boon buff cap due to massive community outcry

-Added different PIN colors.

-Added Art of war upgrades.

-Added siege razor to aid with under populated times on a server.

-Added new maps through edge of the mist due to massive community outcry

Please do not dishonestly claim that nothing has evolved. Lets offer the legitimate complaints, certainly, but the insane level of uneducated hyperbole around here is just insane.

I didn’t say no work has been done. I said it hasn’t evolved and it seems your interpretation of the term is different to mine. Out of the list you posted, the only one I would consider anywhere close is the seasons. The rest are tweaks, small improvements/refinements etc (really, coloured tags as an example of the system evolving?)

So maybe try and fully understand first a persons point of view before throwing around accusations of dishonesty?

Although I would be opposite to the OP thinking. I think one of the problems with it is that its too gamified already and trying to gamify it even more only makes things worse.

Right now WvW is nothing more than a bigger and longer sPvP match. Keeps and towers are just control points. I wish these actually mattered in WvW. It shouldnt be a matter of flipping towers for the tick. They should be hard to take. They should open dungeons with cool skin rewards…I dont know.

Just something more than the same old glorified sPvP maps and system we have today/ But my hopes are not high considering the lack of attention WvW gets from ANet.

Oh its intentional? I thought it was just me. If they want the sound there it really should be toned down, iuts extemely distracting and irritating. I ended up running around last night slapping my ears yelling “fnar fnar yibbiemonks” from going crazy in the head from it

In WvW, at all keep/tower gates I constantly hear what seems to be a buzzing type sound. Its located at the gates, but I can usually here it everywhere inside the tower.

Restarting/messing with sound settings doesnt get rid of it. I’m starting to go a bit mad in teh head from it

You can tweak weapon damage/traits/utilites as much as you like, but until the pet design is fixed/removed/replaced, rangers will never be in the place they need to be. I’d argue that apart from thieves and eles, rangers are the profession most reliant on their class core mechanic and that mechanic, for all intents and purposes, is broken.

The entire reason I made a thief as my first char at release was because I had the image of them with two pistols and then slotting group aiding utilities, ie nothing like how the thief actually turned out

PP is doable and can put out some nice damage, but I keep going away from it as after a while it becomes a pretty boring playstyle for me. P/P just doesnt… meld well, its a confused weapon set I think. It feels a little bit forced for me. But every so often I’ll change my build and play this way for a change, but it sadly doesnt hold my attention for as long as id like it to

Stealth should be skill based not a blanket, press a button and then Im invisible no matter what. If people really want the class to be as skill based as the defenders make it out to be, then make stealth break on damage.

I will start off with Corrupt Boon , the utility that seems to work about roughly 60% of the time. One thing I have noticed is that it gets obstructed by the ground just like an engineer’s net shot can get obstructed and just behaves strangely. Which is in terms with people saying this spell is an “invisible projectile” however it can pass through Sanctuary and other projectile barriers. Some information on how this spell actually performs would be much appreciated because seeing it obstructed on a piece of floor is not very fun. Personally I think it should behave like Epidemic as it is a corruption skill

So Im not going mad. Leveling a necro in WvW at the moment and my corrupt boon fails more often that it succeeds. I thought I was newbing it up, but glad Im not the only one that has issues with it. Extremely annoying bug/issue/design

While waiting for the big bad boss to spawn in the swamp on Piken Square, some of us deduced that he only appears if a naked dance ritual is performed. After about 40 minutes of this ritual, I decided that to make it work it needed Bunny Ears from the Gem Store. Finally after another 20 minutes, it happened! The big bad appeared!

Some of us then concluded that fighting him naked would increase our chance of getting the staff. Sadly, this second ritual didn’t work

Some “fixes”, slight buffs to little used abilities (but that is good as maybe it makes them more viable), but overall, my reaction is “meh”.

I don’t really understand where they’re going with buffin DD eles (overall they got a really good buff) while other professions that need more tender loving care gets a few small things thrown at them. I was expecting a good DD ele and thief balance at least for WvW, but the patch overall…doesnt do much for balance in WvW anyway. Bit disappointed tbh.

Piken might get a few cuts this week and drop, but being on Piken since Sept, we’ll rebuild and get our heart back. I think overall, its gonna be great for the community, new people will come to the fore, maybe map chat will be less whiny and the community pride will come back strong than ever. Good look to the guilds that moved, hope your new home is what you want and you enjoy it there. For everyone that is still on Piken, theres great people still here and once we adjust, the fun times will be stronger than ever.

I play a thief and imo, something needs to be done about 1. stealth 2. the stupid burst. Stealth is a hard one, because its basically thieves main defense instead of stats/boons. I’ve tried to experiement with non stealth builds, never with much success compared to the defense stealth gives me. If major changes to stealth would occur, then something would need to be given to us. We’re simply cannon fodder without stealth. That said, I really hope they do something about it. I dislike stealth in this game.

Regarding burst. Being able to steal/cnd/bs/hs/hs for insane amounts of damage is just silly in my opinion. I hate insane bursts. Its simply not fun and takes no skill. It reduces the combat to a 4 or 5 click rotation. I’ve tried that build, its op imo. I dont play it. I get no enjoyment out of bursting people down in 2 seconds.

If anyone has advice on a non stealth/non cheesey 4 button burst spam build, let me know. I cant get it to work

the vast majority of eles i come across are D/D. Sometimes see staff, hardly ever scepter focus. They need to make more builds interesting/viable, and yes, they need to address D/D. When nearly every player uses it, its a good sign it just might be too good.

Just my 2 cents. Make alternative builds more interesting. Thief was the profession I started with and had planned to make my main. My idea was that he was a utility profession, lots of fun tools at his disposal, helping out people, CC etc. Sadly I eventually discovered that the way the thief turned out was another insane burst stealth class.

It’s thief, not assassin. It’s personal opinion, but I’ve always detested design choice for classes that were based around extremely high burst and stealth, even since my Daoc days. Stealth should be situational, not a near constant ability.

Break away from the stealth/huge damage road and give thieves more fun and viable playstyles.

Since I am always mobile on my mesmer, Ive stopped using this due to the animation lock. Stationary mesmer equals dead mesmer with my playstyle.

Thanks for the answers. I discovered the name for the PvE version is Final Ruin, but no info on where to get it other than it apparently is a drop from a boss chest. I’ll flag this as answered now.

Greetings.

I am wondering if anybody could explain in simple terms how to get this item/skin? I believe its a sPvP or tPvP reward (I WvW 99% of the time).

So my questions are
1. do I need to sPvP or tPvP to get it
2. If so, how does it work (do I need to use Mystic Forge)?
3. Does it take a lot of time investment
4. If I obtained this, am I able to transmoggy it and use the skin in WvW
