I know Arenanet is trying to make titles attractive, and doesn’t want to give an option to remove them. But in WvW they only serve to help clutter the screen more. In big battles, all you see is a ton of nameplates, and now those nameplates have even more text to them.
One of the design philosophies in GW2 is to allow players to not have to use the UI but rather, the visual effects to see what’s happening, but a mass of nameplates, now with titles, just contributes to making that difficult in WvW.
I know it won’t solve the nameplate visual issue completely, but I think it may help.
Interesting. Didn’t think of it that way. If that was intended, then that’s actually kind of awesome…
I don’t play a Mesmer, but there’s also at least one more skill that looks like Time Warp, only smaller (it reflects ranged attacks and causes confusion, used a lot in WvW).
The problem with these skills is that when they are being used, as an enemy I can’t tell if it’s a friendly or enemy field. I just have to hit it and see what happens. It would really help to make it more obvious which is which. Perhaps replace the bright purple circle at the base with a red one if it’s from an enemy. Thanks.
The achievable items in sPvP aren’t free. You still have to earn those. You’re just given the same baseline as everyone else to keep things fair. I’m not sure why this would mean even the starter equipment has to be earned… It’s gold for winning matches.
And I’m not sure I see the logical step that says that just because we don’t spend the gold in PvP we couldn’t earn it there as a type of reward usable in PvE.
So, I’m sorry but I don’t get either of your arguments, respectfully. I think it’s a decent suggestion. Not that I think it will happen either… So I agree with you there.
The biggest reason that I don’t spend a lot of time in sPvP, is that none of the progress in there has any bearing on your character in the rest of the world. This is something I really like about WvW, that it’s the same character from PvE, so you’re progress in either area carries over.
I like PvP in general, but the competition in WvW is not exactly balanced and most of the time it’s just a mass of aoe spamming zergs… not as fun as small structured competitions.
I understand keeping things separated and having a separate set of armors and weapons etc. to keep thing balanced. But I really like the other areas of the game a lot (PvE, WvW) and I hesitate to spend time in sPvP when I could be playing WvW and making progress towards the gear that I want.
So I was thinking, maybe if we could earn gold for our wins in sPvP, then at least it helps our regular character out. If this was implemented, I would be probably start playing a ton of sPvP…
+1 for this. Renaming the guild would be nice too.
The fact that world events are on a timer is really being exploited. I’m not hating on anyone who’s event hopping. It’s to be expected given how predictably they occur, and the quality of the loot that they now give out. I do a bit of event hopping now too.
The downside to all this farming though, is both in terms of the quality of the experience in those events(it’s a lag fest where most bosses are killed in seconds), and the fact that it forces many people into overflow when they are occuring. If the timing of the events wasn’t so predictable, then people wouldn’t be able to farm the events as easily, and it would hopefully lead to the events being more enjoyable overall.
To cut down on farming and improve the quality of these events, I think a simple solution would be to greatly increase the windows of when the events might spawn.
So take the Jormag for instance. Instead of spawning in a one hour window after three hours, have him (her?) spawn in a 4 hour window after 3 hours. If someone is really willing to sit around for four hours waiting for something to spawn, then I guess they deserve the loot…
This would make the events both rarer, and harder to predict. I know this won’t completely solve the farming issue, because I’m sure that players will adapt, but I think it could help alleviate the situation a bit, and hopefully make the events more fun to participate in.
It was a suggestion. This is the suggestion forum. Not the bug forum.
I really don’t like how a dead player can just lie there and feed information to his team. This is a lame tactic that unfortunately everyone uses, and I think the WvW gameplay suffers because of it. It just irks me every time I see a dead opposing player in our keep or wherever we may be during an extended fight, knowing that the only reason they didn’t respawn is so that they can tell their team everything we’re doing. They died. They shouldn’t get such a powerful reward for that.
I think a great solution would be to allow dead players to only view the map while they either wait to get revived or choose to respawn. Thoughts?
Even if enemies occasionally get in the way, it’s surely easier to target an inanimate object than it is to target a moving enemy. And I’m not suggesting that tabbing shouldn’t work as a means to target walls etc. I’m just suggesting that the hotkey that is for targeting the nearest “enemy” works only to target enemies. Maybe they can add another hotkey that keeps the current functionality, a “target nearest enemy or object” key. I just find the current functionality to be really frustrating, especially in WvW.
Especially walls/doors etc. I can see maybe turrets being targeted but not walls and doors, or other inanimate objects like weapon racks in PvE. If I want to target a wall or other inanimate object, it’s not moving, so it’s easy enough to click on. I don’t think we need this hotkey to do that for us.
The biggest place where this gets in your way is when fighting near a wall, on a wall, or especially through a breached wall in WvW. Often, when I try to switch to the nearest enemy I end up targeting the wall, and then have to hit tab and hope that it targets the enemy I was trying to target.
Target nearest “enemy”. It should do that. Thank you.
I’d like to voice my support for what Heinel just posted. The culling issue does seem to be caused(or at least worsened) by the huge customizability of our avatars/armor/weapons. I would be totally fine with using generic models for WvW.
Hell, this is kind of already done in structured PvP. Why not in WvW? It’s like a big battle ground. Give us uniforms! I’m more than cool with it. The gameplay is so much more important than our ability to customize our look, especially when you can hardly notice those details during a big battle.
I agree with this one. The camera issues are bad enough without the extra disorientation from automoving the camera when you’re downed. It’s hard enough to fight other players when you’re also fighting the camera.
Sure. I’m not commenting on how hard this would be to add. I can’t look at their codebase… Just that I think it’s sorely needed and would make experimenting/developing/sharing builds so much easier, and those are some of the funnest things to do in my opinion.
A note about how this was implemented in GW1, for anyone not aware. The save/load interface would show you a summary and name of your build, along with a sort of hash code, like “ABCD1234”. This code represented every setting of the build. You could copy paste this code to a website to share (many websites could display the build with just that code), and in reverse, you could copy builds from websites to try on your character.
munk, I mentioned the cost. I did call it “resetting your skills” by mistake, though, rather than re-traiting, which is right. I’ll edit again…
For me, some of the biggest fun in an RPG is experimenting and perfecting your build(s). Without a save/load feature to do this quickly, we’re stuck with keeping notes and manually switching every piece of the build by hand. It’s monotonous and annoying. Saving/loading builds was a great feature in GW1 and I’m dying to see it introduced in GW2, including the representative codes, so that we can share and post them easily. Oh pretty please!
For PvE/WvW, I’m thinking there could just be an option added to the trainer NPC’s that allows you to save/load your builds, and of course you pay the same cost as resetting your skills traits. For sPvP, anything works, since there’s no cost involved.
-Edit-
And just to be clear, a “build” would include all of your skills, trait points, chosen traits, and your weapons/equipment.
