At the very least put pressure on ANet to fix CLASS BUGS first before they start with balance changes. Current bugs are making potential builds useless and UP, which means that a proper build to match the popular Mesmer build may exist but is currently broken thanks to bugs (GW isn’t like WoW where it’s class vs class, it’s actually focused on build vs build).
In short, bugs first, then let people experiment with different builds and find unique comps (i.e. mature meta), THEN and ONLY then should they look at balance.
And this is coming from a Necro. A useless one, but a Necro nonetheless…
Thanks guys, been reading your Power guide Tony, and I’m sure I’ll try it out, for now though it sounds like it’s a bit above my skill-level, but once I’m more comfortable I’m definitely giving it a whirl (I tried a dagger/dagger + axe/focus health siphon build once a while ago and I was SOO bad! :P).
I love the “feel” of the Necro, tried an Ele and just couldn’t get it (I always gravitate towards the magic classes in MMOs). Admittedly, this was my first day and I would jump into PvP right after the tutorial, so I used the default builds and didn’t exactly know any of the abilities so I would just spam and see if I like the general playstyle.
The Necro just stuck and I enjoy it more than any of the others I’ve tried (Tried everything apart from Guardian).
First off, I’m new to GW2, picked a Necro from the start and “kinda” enjoying. Struggling in sPvP (Not comfortable trying tPvP yet) but I still put that down to inexperience and general suckage on my part.
What I want to know from the pros is that why, when you jump into conversations about Necro balance, you are quick to make statements like “This/that build doesn’t work, my build is great and I do so well”, why you don’t post what your build is (And if you feel like sharing, some of your tactics – I know that will take a long time so it’s not something I would demand).
This isn’t a challenge, I’m eager to learn, but simply hearing “your build sucks, my build is great” is pretty useless as an educational tool.
If we want to figure out the nuances of the class as a community, we need to share what works and what doesn’t.
Game is dying, so what are you doing to fix the only content you have?
in PvP

No thanks, WoW already exists, every MMO doesn’t have to be copy of it (Funny how people whined that TOR was a reskin of WoW in the Star Wars universe, and then they’ll whine that a game ISN’T like WoW).
I love the PvP (As a Necro), I’m new, and I still suck, but I love that when someone beats me it’s not because they don’t have a job and have spent their life getting better gear than I could ever hope to get, it’s because I got outplayed/countered (I’m still getting used to using DS when my life force is full, plus dodging, plus awareness about boons/conds on me and my target, loong way to go).
Don’t beg them to change GW2 to WoW, you want to play WoW, then play WoW.
The only thing I want to know is why sPvP is 8v8 when the game, classes and maps are balanced for 5v5 (tPvP).
Until that is answered, and the class bugs are sorted out, I don’t want ANet to make any balancing changes.
No offense Zelthios, I’m still new to the game and to the class, so at this point I try to absorb everything and try out my own ideas based on what I’ve seen, but the build you listed and the screenshot you posted don’t actually match up.
The screenshot has you scepter/dagger with consume/epidemic/corrupt boon/plague signet and plague form, while your linked build is dagger/focus (and staff) with well of blood/well of suffering/epidemic/corrupt boon and flesh golem.
Would love to see your build in action though.
This is not a whine thread, I’m a new enough player that I’m still ignorant of whether I died because of balance issues or because I just plain suck (I’m 99% certain it’s the latter, in all cases).
I was just curious, is there any particular reason that sPvP is 8v8 while tPvP is 5v5? If all the maps and classes are balanced around 5v5, throwing 16 people in that same map would create a lot of statistical “noise” which would make it difficult to see what classes are truly like in action.
Things in 8v8 would appear imbalanced when it’s fine in 5v5 (As evidenced by all the “go tPvP” responses). Zerging is the name of the game in sPvP, so technically all data gathered in 8v8, even class popularity, group composition and builds/damage stats/TTK are completely useless.
This all seems like an unnecessary issue. Why is sPvP 8v8 at all? And what’s stopping ANet from flipping it over the 5v5? And why haven’t they?
