Many of them are tight to the second so it is getting very annoying to spam “space” and “f” keys in “Is the floor lava?” for instance and nothing happens … on a brand new Logitech G710+… a mechanical keyboard (!!!???!!!)… and before asking childish questions, I don’t have any problems with “space” and “f” in any other game I play, and there’s a lot, so obviously the problem comes from Guild Wars 2.
As many other players, my wings don’t open when I order it quite often. Obviously this is a connection issue, it is a big problem that you don’t have the ressources to sustain your very game … and yes I already verified (traceroute and so on …) that the problem doesn’t come from my end.
So rent servers in Europe, or make adventures instanced, or buy some servers in Europe !

Tired of getting deconnected in the middle of an event when the game decides he wants to close a instance. Multiple deconnections from game since megaserver. And of course when connecting back i’m alone when i was on a world boss, and crowded when i was tring liadri.
You can’t help it Arenanet, but the first system of Guild Wars 1 and districts adding when needed was the best, and ever since you launched GW2 it has never been a real open world, just a copy of GW1 system at a larger scale, giving illusion of open world, but actually it is just a big 150 people instance. Don’t cheat Arenanet !

I really hope for their sake that this is a bug !
Flooding people with ever changing, useless, boring, scrappy, laggy events is one thing, but consumming players time for nothing, is an insult from the developpers to the players, plain and simple !
Arenanet should really ask itself what on earth are they doing, but i can assure them that is not a fun game anymore if you keep bashing mobs for nothing !!!! Loot is at the heart of this kind of game, if it was not there wouldn’t be so much ban, bug exploits, gold selling … No loot, no game, sad to teach that to Mike O’brien.
That’s like playing soccer without any goal … what the hell did you think when “developping” “this”…
Yeah right a chest within a chest into a bag that gives 2 greens and some dusty dejection.

@Healix
Thanks for the troubleshooting, even better and faster than Arenanet support.
Yes it did stop to work about 5 days ago, and no i didn’t change or install anything, because before spleeping it was working and on the morning it was dead.
My date, time and time zone are correct.
The test returns me an error as you described … “change in certificates should not affect Windows 7”, but it obviously did.
I looked over the net to learn how to install certificates, but couldn’t find anything.
What services do you need running in order to install a windose hotfix ?

edit …

Great Thanks Healix !!!

You point me in the right direction, of course thoses recent bugs were “because they changed the certificate provider to GoDaddy”, although i’d like to know how you got this information, and how come it has not been notified by ArenaNet in the patch notes … nice to loose a few days because of misinformation.
So my root certificates needed to get updated, even if i use 7 x64, i nuked a lot of annoying, useless and intrusive services, automatic updates beeing the first of course to be killed.
The last rvkroots.exe wouldn’t install in stand alone mode, then the main difficulty was to find all the dependencies involved in the automatic updates process, but it was a personnal matter and the cost of a clean operating system.

I’m just amazed that the support could only ask me if i deleted the cache, which i already told them i did, and even ask me for a screenshot to proove it, but didn’t think to ask me about the update status of my certificates, that they have just changed, or ask me if ouindows updates were on.
Let me stress on the fact that nothing had changed on my computer, of course because there was no updates for some months, and that the support didn’t even think of that. If that change was stated in the patch notes or at least in the troubleshooting forums, i could have loose less time, and not even bother the support.

Its has been three days that I have the same issue, trading post never loads, the yellow circle just keep turning endlessly, and I send a request to support yesterday, still no answer. Tried all fixes, cache, dns, redownload the game, and there’s no other account on my ouindows 7 x64 ultimate than administrator account, and there’s no way there’ll be another.
All that proves, even if only a few players have this issue, that the problem comes from Guild Wars 2 and/or the awesomium program, so we’re hoping for a very, very fast fix now

Performances on windows xp and 7

Thanks for the tip about dx9, let’s hope they’ll optimize the game so we’ll get those options on xp too.
What is odd is that process explorer gives me around 3.5 GB left out of the 6 while running the game on 7 x64 and shows that gw2 takes about 1.5 GB, so technically that’s not over the 32-bits memory limit of xp.
But I know the memory is managed a lot better in 7, or so I’ve heard.
About the cpu, it is not a performance bottleneck as the gpu is, and I suspect gpu memory bandwith to be that bottleneck.
I’ve recently upgraded from GTX 275 to GTX 660Ti, before I had 15 fps average, now 50 fps … on 7 x64 ^^. I was expecting more for 300 doubloons, but at least it’s playable.

Damai.1947

My game running on xp x86 sp3, nvidia 306.81, is getting twice less the framerate it is getting on 7 x64 sp1, nvidia 306.97.

My hardware is i7 930, GA-X58A-UD3R, F3-12800CL6T-6GBTD, 6x Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ (raid 0 + raid 10 on ICH10R), and GV-N66TOC-2GD, N2200P @1600x1200×85.
xp is installed on the raid 0 array, and 7 on the raid 10, installation have been made separately so that each os ignores the other one (I choose the os by choosing the partition on which to boot).
So I tested the game on the very same computer and on xp I get a 25 fps average framerate and on 7 I get a 50 fps average framerate, both at max (available) settings.
Since some graphic options are not available on xp (because of dx9 I suppose), it should need less ressources to run on xp.
Before any useless consideration, I know it makes more sense for my hardware to run on 7 x64, but on xp I am the admin.

Should those big differencies be expected, and aside from the usual stuff in the nvidia control panel (already tested, no change), is there anything to do to improve performances on windows xp ?

Third time the charm, I went through after having the camera unfocused bug (the character moves but the camera doesn’t), fixed it by using the catapult again, and finished the quest as intended.

I hope that’s a full scale test for a new camera, and i really hope it’ll stay.
Maybe adding a slider to tune it at will.
And for the argument of camera and game balance, we’ll be able to discuss it when everyone has the same screen, with the same settings, and the same hardware and controllers behind …

Now, at last, the games feels right, many thanks guys, but may I say that is a minimum.
The increase of the FoV is so light that it’s hard to tell the first time used, but it is definitely better and more comfortable this way.
Adding the option to raise it a bit more should be great.
The camera still needs customization, to get rid of undesired movements, but it is another topic.
I’d also like to suggest to raise the camera a little bit so it would feel like we are in the eyes of the character and not in his belly, it’ll also give the impression (may I stress that this is only an impression caused by the change of perspective) to see further like a grown-up compared to a child.
And please there is no link between FoV and widescreens… widescreens don’t especially need high FoV, it’s proportionnal. I play in 1600×1200 resolution and the new FoV is absolutely necessary.
Just editing to say thanks again !!)

Follow your own advises … where did you shout ?
Get real too and put the words FoV or camera in the search field of the fora, maybe you’ll be able to see the overall problem.
There is an official thread about FoV, opened/closed by Arenanet, you should learn a lot there.
Anyway, don’t speak without a bit of knowlegde at least.

Yes, people can’t read …
It’s was not about people own preferences.
It was about the choice of Arenanet not to listen to player complaints and the fact that those players are getting angry, and the only reaction of Arenanet is to close the discussion, getting them angrier …

I was talking about body balance, equilibrium, the one that makes you keep walking or sometimes falling or vomit.
We all know that pvp balancing on camera settings is simply a fake argument (everyone has a different screen anyway), like art or performances, no need to keep arguing on that, it’s keeping people away from the real problem.

Yeah.

And companies who make lemon tarts should be forced to remove the lemons from their recipe because some people are allergic to lemons!

Maybe you should wake up, companies that are making food are under sanitary surveillance and are often obliged to change some ingredients or recipes if they are dangerous.

Seeing that you, Arenanet, have so much troubles about people feedback on Field Of View, closing threads because of “personnal attacks” is only the confession that your choices are wrong.
Maybe it would be smarter to realize that if that discussion is getting “personnal”, it is because Arenanet choices on that matter get people sick.
If you don’t already know there is a link between vision and body balance.
You can get people sick only using moving images, and it is what you do and decide to keep on.
And stop giving us some bs reasons, like art or performances, the only thing that it does is getting people angrier.
So now it’s personnal, and it’s a matter of public health.

Seeing the first reactions, I edit to underline that the subject of the thread is not the reasons for chosing bad FoV (everything has already been said), it is about the result of thoses choices … people are getting angry !!

I’d say it should be first in priority, well above gem store or servers connectivity problems.

We need official explanation on why Arenanet tries to threatened gamers health.

Angle of FoV is a question of habit, and 100° still look small for me.
We need a slider that goes at least until 120° of horizontal field of view.
If it is cutomizable, there is no “usual” PC FOV. Think that some people prefer to use 4:3 screens, on which the same fov will give another feeling.
The wideness of nowadays screens is decreasing the vertical angle and giving the impression to have correct FoV, but that just an impression.
Standards is a four-letter-word

Good news ? Where ??
In our dreams … camera smoothing is coming after FOV in my opinion, but they still avoiding this expression “field of view” in any of their response. Seems like a big fat taboo, on one hand they can communicate with much transparency about security accounts for example (not all companies describe how they are attacked) and on the other hand, they can’t talk about FOV, or can’t even use the words “field of view” it seems, ever.
Maybe they don’t want the average joe to learn about what is field of view and how developpers could (really/technically) improve gaming comfort.
Some people just get sick without ever knowing the issue, if you give them the right words, they can understand what is the problem, so to avoid the problem, Arenanet acts like those words don’t even exist and therefore the problem doesn’t exist.
Typical politician communication technique …
It’s like talking to a dog … it’s happy and smiling, but doesn’t understand a bit.

To summarize, may I suggest (as many others) to :
- (above all) add a Field of View Slider from whatever you want to at least 130 degrees horizontal angle
- add a First Person View, simply like GW1
- add character movement by mouse click on the terrain, like GW1
- add option to get rid off automatic movement of camera (while dead for example), smoothing and so on
- add transparancy to the character when zooming and to the objects that the camera goes through
- add options on Left and Right Click (turn the camera or turn the character)
- add better object selection (be able to target even if not in line of sight)

Thanks for the others necessary fixes and all the good work !

All those possibilities with mouse camera control you talked about should be customizable … everyone has their habits and preferences.
It’s a PC game, not a casual/console game.
Camera is the main and first interface with the game, it should be more efficient, and above all, under the control of the user.

Indeed the camera shows its worst flaws in interiors, and confined environments, this is the reason First Person view is required … remember we had it in GW1 and it is the same graphic engine …

This FoV is an insult to the video game culture and to the gamers.
It’s a question about health … making people epileptic, gj guys … way to get a good mood on those fora.
What’s that, 20th century ???
Forget about hardware, people WILL upgrade their own to play your game, this is a fake optimization.
Beeing a huge fan of GW1 since the beginning, I always thought of Arenanet as an open-minded and progressist editor … This passive and obscure attitude about this issue (too recurring nowadays) is a proof of obvious stubbornness. It is sad to see that you are a step away from perfection, but this step is as large as your ego is Arenanet.
With respect for all the good hours of game and some puke for the hours of headaches.
