et vs kein this week my thoughts

Well on ET it really doesn’t matter who they match up with, getting rolled over by superior numbers is getting rolled over by superior numbers regardless of the server tag.

Stop worrying about upgrades or ppt, you have not been competitive in those areas for quite awhile, you should be used to it.

Server Merge

Pretty much happened to ET. Several of their main WvW guilds all landed in NSP within a month. I don’t think it made too much of a difference to the NSP population, but taking the majority of the WvW Guilds from a T8 server made ET a wasteland.

My guess is that you will continue to get mostly blank stares when you ask about GvG while in Bronze, it is what it is. I’d recommend moving up to Silver if you are passionate about GvG.

And calling other servers “kittens” in their forums for not GvGing does nothing to help drum up support. Even if I was interested in GvGing, I would pass on your offer.

Not just complaining, I seriously would like to know.

If Anet is incapable of doing anything, I might as well leave now, because it is getting rediculous. However, if they are unwilling, then there is a chance this could get turned around once Anet figures out why gem sales begin to drop.

How Do Other Servers Minimize TS Spying?

in WvW

Posted by: Darius.1430

Darius.1430

Just because someone is on TS and active, doesn’t mean they aren’t a spy. In fact, that’s the best way to spy, because the rest of the people on that TS drop their guard. In games like EVE Online, where spying is part of the game, no amount of vetting can prevent it. You just have to play with one more layer of meta in mind.

True, I guess it depends how you typically use TS. On ET we typically use Guild channels, so it is easy to spot a poser, and we have another means for commanders/guild-leads to share info.

How Do Other Servers Minimize TS Spying?

in WvW

Posted by: Darius.1430

Darius.1430

Since you can not stop in-game spying, it is helpful just understanding that there are spies. For example, if you announce over map chat that you have a Mesmer hiding in Bay, expect a sweep of Bay.

TS is better than map chat if you have admins putting effort into verifying that a player is not just on your server, but actually participating, but even if you have a loose screening process, at least you can see who is in channel to guage your level of trust.

Best practice for the Mesmer in Bay scenario is to whisper a Commander directly to see if he/she is interested in taking advantage of the wall hop.

If you want some real fun “spying”, find someone from your opposing server publicly twitching their Zerg. This is fair game in my book.

WvW: How is this even possible?

in WvW

Posted by: Darius.1430

Darius.1430

ET is not happy with the matchup either, it’s not fun racing against other commanders for the fights.

The matchup odds are improving each week, and it should be even more in ET’s favor for a T6 match. And if we are able to hold our own in T6, the odds of us moving back down will decrease… but then who replaces us in T7 if we move up? your situation may not improve much.

Best server for roaming?

in WvW

Posted by: Darius.1430

Darius.1430

Since you are from Kaineng, in that your opponents servers are pretty bare, you need to fish out opponents. Go hit your opponents camps… they will respond, and often with low numbers, 1 or 2.

If you are set on switching servers, it will cost you, but perhaps a server in the mid population range? But from what I read here, you would be faced with multiple Theifs ganking you… the grass may not be greener over there. I would learn how to fish.

If it bothers you so much Jeknar that you don’t have enough people to run with for your preferred style of play, in that you have to cry about it everyday, why don’t you move? Is it the cost?

technically i haven’t said i was for a merger either. i said if we’re going to merge, merge us with the low pop EU servers to fill in coverage gaps, not another NA server.

as for “what it’s really like” down in T8… Jeknar, has it gone back to being as bad as it was a year ago, when i got that screencap of the entirety of ET’s WvW force from all 4 battlefields at primetime on a friday afternoon… all 17 of us? i can always throw that screenie back up here again. actually getting a zerg (A zerg. singular, as in, only on one BL) rolling of 20+ and still having some left over for scout/camp/enemy harassment was a cause for celebration.

No it’s not that bad lol. Even ET hits 30+ during prime. Don’t SVRN and EoH each run 15+ alone? Let alone pugs? Think those are the numbers jeknar gave me anyways.

Yeah, it’s not terrible as old T8 during 2-3 hours per day when we can get somenthing around 50 players… After that our structures fall, but no one is there to hear it. Do they make a sound?

I play for PPT=I’m on a winning server=My server has more coverage=We have a great WvW community

I play for fights=I’m on a losing server=My server has less coverage=We’re trying to keep our people from being recruited by higher servers.

Welcome to WvW

All this is true and fair EXCEPT that you seem to believe that having a large population = “a great WvW community”

I would argue that the smaller populations have a tighter community, which is valued by many who actually merits this as the reason to stay T8 = “a great WvW community”

I’ll use this analogy… people enjoy living in big cities because there are lots of people, but people also value living in hick towns because they know all the people well. They can argue which is the better community, and they are all correct (measured by their own priorities)

Just merge the bottom servers

in WvW

Darius.1430

Amen Rimmy… so what if populations have dwindled, it’s to be expected. If the maps get too sparse for some folks, they have the option to move, and they have.

I actually like where ET is now… there is no PPT pressure which allows us to play in a different way. If we only have enough to bunker down our BL and chase around the evil intruders, then so be it, that is our game and challenge for the night.

Teamspeak server for WvW use

I sometimes use TS, depending on the circumstance:

Roaming? No… the mindless chit chat gets old

Running with Guildies? Always… I chose this guild because of the people, and TS helps getting to know them better.

Zerging? Sometimes… if they are using a server wide TS channel, then I find it very helpful in staying in step with the Commander. If it is a Guild (not my guild) led group that decides to use their own TS channel vice a server channel, then I view it as not being an invitation to join them, in which case I may tune into the Home BL channel to keep an ear on what is going on in case they need help, or just listen to music.

Darius.1430

It depends on your definition of “Good”

No idea how it is in NA, but in EU it is sufficient to win, if you have 150 people from 0:00-8:00 CET and NOT ONE at any other time.

ET would not know what to do if we ever had 150 people on at any time… we would be so confused, at least initially LOL. I think if we ever ran into a queue, the admins would be flooded with trouble tickets from everyone thinking something is broken.

We had a 10 man queue for EB this reset for at least 2 or 3 hours…

Are WvW map limits based on per server, or a designated number slots regardless of your server?

If your idea of good is winning the matches, then the consensus here of having coverage is probably your answer.

But ask the same question to many of the hardcore WvWers who are sticking it out on their servers, despite having terrible coverage, such as your home server. I bet you hear a different answer, such as having teams that routinely rolls much larger Zergs, skill pride, good communication, good friends. We have it good on ET, but those who watch the match scores would disagree, and would be correct – based on their values and definition of “good”.

Worrying About PPT

I think this may be part of the reason I enjoy WvWing on ET so much… there is no reason to stress about PPT because it is clear that we are not going to win a weekly match anytime soon… It’s easier to just enjoy the fights, and the company of our server mates, without having to worry about all that.

For me, it really does feel like we are having more fun after AKD and BOM left… the drama is gone, there are no more Guild chest beatings and finger pointings.

Sure our PPTs dropped significantly, but I believe those that connected their game satisfaction with PPTs are the ones that left looking for greener pastures… those that stayed enjoy the company we play with, and gain satisfaction from accomplishments like overcoming challenges that comes from being outnumbered, like holding a keep, turning our map one color, beating a larger zerg in open field battle… fun.

Small communities have advantages… we pretty much know everyone, I recognize all the voices in TS. Our Guild events, such as WvW training by our newest Guild, and GW Trivia, with cool prizes, by one of our oldest Guilds seems much more common, accepted and appreciated now.

The initial bitterness in ET towards the Guilds that recruited and left is understandable, but I found that the bitterness faded faster than the departed Guilds probably wished for, as evident by them coming back trying to stir the pot.

If you ask most folks in ET, I believe you will find that we are in a good spot… but as evident from the posts here from those that left, they seem to predict and hope that we are worse off without them… it’s that kind of ego that is probably better fed with higher tournament scores.

I think all-in-all it’s a win-win by everyone that is, or was, in ET… enjoy your game, however you decide to play it.
