CoF Speed run question

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

1. DR and dungeon reward reduction aren’t the same thing. If you run P1/P2 on Warrior you’ll get 60 tokens and whatever the full silver reward is. If you switch to Mesmer and run P1/P2 you’ll get the same 60 tokens and full silver reward. If you swap back to Warrior, you’ll get reduced tokens and silver for subsequent runs that day until server reset.

2. You wouldn’t have a problem getting a group, though you might not get a full zerker group because they’re kinda dumb and don’t understand that a DPS-spec guardian or thief won’t slow anything down. I mean when’s the last time you got one of those PUG groups that can actually get 4 runs per consumable? Smart people would take you with no issues, but you might have to make or join an “all classes” LFG post.

Ah okay, makes sense.

Thanks for the info though, really appreciate it.

I two questions about doing CoF speed runs and I was wondering if anyone out there could answer them for me.

1. I heard swapping characters reduces the DR. So if you run P1+P2 with character 1, then swap to character 2 and run P1+P2, swapping back over to character 1 will make it so you don’t hit the DR cap for dungeons and can keep farming till you die of exhaustion. Is that true, or something similar?

2. I’m planning on making an alt to just run CoF so I can swap to if the above is true at all, but my main is already a Mesmer and I don’t want to make a Warrior. Would groups be accepting of a Guardian or a Thief in Zerker gear?

Thanks

Honestly, I think the Fiery Dragon sword has some scaling issues. It’s just too large for a one-handed sword. Not only does the flame extend too far beyond the physical blade, the particle effect at the tip is too large rather than shrinking to a point.

And the grip is far too long to the point of looking comical and unwieldy. The entire item badly needs to be shrunk down. As is, you could easily wield this sword two-handed without anything looking odd.

Example:

I don’t understand. Isn’t this a good thing? It’s an extremely large blade, but it’s not “comical” because the sword is probably insanely lightweight.

I just don’t get why you guys are trying to make what is my personal favorite weapon less noticable and less flashy. It’s not like HOM rewards were incredibly easy to get, they at least took some time.

And also, why would the flame shrink to a point? It’s a raging fire, it’s going to go in every direction.

I think I take a lot of offense to these suggestions purely because the FDS is in my eyes the weapon that seems like they put the most time into it, barring legendaries.

In my eyes, Jormag’s breath should be scaled UP in size, but leave the particle effect alone. The way I see it, the FDS’s particles spread out wide because it’s fire, blazing in every direction, where as JB’s particles are directed forward, and icy, less unpredictable.

The real problem lies in the fact that in GW1, IDS was just a reskinned FDS, where as in GW2, Jormag’s Breath has an entirely different model than the FDS (completely different dragon head and texturing.)

I think you’ve pretty much summed up all my thoughts perfectly, especially in that last bit. It’s a completely different model whereas the FDS isn’t, and that’s what really bugs me. Either make the FDS like Jormag’s Breath, or visa versa. Having them both be so different really throws off the weapons.

Wow, that looks sorta crazy. On my Male Sylvari it doesn’t look that big at all.

I wonder what makes it so huge for you.

I think Jormag’s Breath is fine. If anything, the Fiery Dragon sword needs to be adjusted (toned down). Despite having access to that skin for the entire game I have never wanted to use it because it’s just too big. When sheathed at the hip the fiery effect clips horribly with the ground – it just extends out too far past the physical blade.

This.

Agreed, jormag’s breathe looks great the way it is, the fiery sword on the other hand is like a few ticks from a forest fire.

To be honest, I’d be happy if they were just the same size; big or small.

I don’t mind how big the FDR is, so that’s why I brought up Jormag’s Breath being so small, but I’d be happy too if they made the FDR a little smaller to match Jormag’s Breath.

I dunno. The swords really remind me of GW1 and I’m really glad they brought them over, but I feel they need to be opposites in color, not size.

Why didnt you check this before making it? So you wouldnt be dissapointed

It’s very hard to even know there would be a difference.

Even on the wiki it says,"This weapon is the opposite color of the Fiery Dragon Sword from the Hall of Monuments. Its flames are blue instead of red. " so it implies it’s the same, just opposite colors.

I’ve tried looking up comparison pictures on google to show here, but I couldn’t find anything. I had to make my own.

Thanks for posting, was thinking about getting Jormag’s Breath to go with my FDS but I don’t think ill bother now.

I’m sure Anet will fix this by making the flames on the FDS smaller.

Honestly, I’d be okay with that.

Having them both the same size would be great instead of having one gigantic kitten blade of flame and a little dagger of frost.

Bumping thread for the updated picture. Maybe it’s just me, but the size really bugs me for being the exact opposite of Fiery Dragon Sword.

tldr; Just got Jormag’s Breath and was thinking it’d be the exact opposite of the Fiery Dragon Sword like in GW1, but it’s waaaaaaay smaller.

I’m a casual player, so this is my first big weapon, but man was I was disappointed. I thought it would be at least the same size as the Fiery Dragon Sword, but the particles are SO small.

Here are a few pictures showing what the sword looked like in GW1 compared to the Fiery Dragon Sword, and then a picture of the change in GW2 to the swords.

I couldn’t find a good picture of a comparison of the GW2 swords since I’m at work, otherwise I’d just screenshot my character at home. But as you can see, Jormag’s Breath is WAY smaller with particles and sword effects than the Fiery Dragon Sword, but the GW1 swords were the exact same size though.

Does this bug anyone else but me?

EDIT: Well the picture doesn’t really show how small it looks. I’ll make a picture when I get home showing the size difference. It’s like I have a dagger equipped when compared to any other sword. Anyone with a Jormag’s Breath knows what I’m talking about.

EDIT 2: Had some stuff happen at home, but finally got around to making the pictures.

Seriously, this sword is like a dagger. Sorta really bummed. I know ANET just fixed some particles on some weapons, so maybe one day they’ll fix this if it’s not too much.

Same exact issue, and I made my topic just today but didn’t realize this was an ongoing thing.

Has ANYONE found a way to fix this at all? Do you re-transmute or what? Because that would be pretty expensive for some of us.

Edit: And now it’s happening to every piece of my armor. Cool.

When trying to dye my pants black, they turn to “Dye Remover” color upon hero screen exit every time.

I have tried selecting black as a favorite color, selecting black from a palette of colors, dying black on other pieces of armor (it wasn’t working on my chest for a while too but randomly fixed), logging out and in, re-equipping my leg armor, dying my legs a different color and then black, but none of it fixes the issue.

Could I get help in resolving this issue for my legs not being able to be dyed black?

Whenever I use black dye, it changes the dye color but then when I exit the hero screen it turns into “dye remover” on my hero.

Anyone else have this issue?

I can’t find anything related to this happening?

It seems you do not understand what you are reading. They will never give an official ok on something like this. You are on your own.

Well I mean, best to try and see what happens yeah?

Unfortunately I think you may be right.

Oh well, no bell macro =/

Guess you get the best answer.

I’m still hoping for an official response on this though, as much as that link helps. That link talks about programs that give you an advantage over people, can play while you’re not at the computer, or even cheating, but a bell macro doesn’t do that at all.

I mean the bell only lasts 1 minute, so you can’t walk away from your computer or anything.

I’m just really hoping for an official response is all

If they catch u using it, im sure they will not check what u were doing at that time. And “I was playing the bell” prob wont cut it. Dont forget it could also be used as anti-afk so i dont think it would be legal (even if u dont use it long enough to be anti-afk purpose). But yeah i totally understand where you are coming from, it would be fun =)

PS: Offtopiv but is the bell bind on equip? OR can u move it around ur diff toons after u use it on one?

It’s not bind on equip, so you can definitely use it on anyone you want as many times as you’d like.

The reason I can’t figure out an answer is that when I look at the thread for third-party programs they have and read this, my scenario doesn’t fall under any of these;

“The best way for a player to assess whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:
• “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
• “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
• “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?” "

Also, saw this too in their thread

“If you choose to use what you believe to be a “benign,” or non-advantage-giving program, be sure to get it from a legitimate source to protect yourself from the possible addition of cheats or key-loggers.”

So I dunno.

Helloooo! I barely post here, but I am quite curious about this.

Just got the unbreakable bell last night and was really excited. Found a thread on reddit that showed all the songs people found out how to play and I was like,“Wow! I could record my keystrokes with my g15 keyboard and then save them to a button, so whenever I want to play Song of Time I just have to equip the bell and press the button!”

Just curious if this violates the TOS in any way because I really love this game but I don’t want to get banned for something that might possibly make me look like I’m botting or something, even though I’m just playing a bell song.

The only reason I’m unsure of this is because I’ve read about other people using 3rd party programs like a automatic clicker on their mouse to open 6,000 wintersday gifts (otherwise, that’s a hell of a lot of clicking) for example and they haven’t been banned yet.

Sorry if this seems silly to ask, but I thought I’d make sure. Would hate to get that lucky getting a bell and then have my account banned.

Thanks

I don’t have a lot to add to the contribution of concrete data unfortunately, but I can add my experience at least.

I not saying I need exotics to rain from the sky, but I’ve worn nothing but magic find armor and jewelry since I hit 80 back in the beginning of November. Once I saw the patch notes on the 15th I was like,“YEAH, THIS ARMOR WAS WOOOOOORTH IT!”. Combined with my mf gear and food, I had like 170%ish mf or something, so I was pretty stoked.

3 days ago I finally took it all off and said screw it. I have gotten jack crap for ALL my drops and it just pisses me off. I gut my character of so many needed stats in favor of magic find, yet I get the exact same drops when I don’t wear it. I’m not even exaggerating either. The only difference I noticed going from full mf gear set to full beserker (with some toughness and vit) is that I kill a LOT faster and my gameplay is completely changed now.

tldr; wore full mf gear for the longest time, finally took it off, no difference in drops

On a sidenote, I’ve gotten 1 exotic drop in all my gameplay of GW2.
