Apart from the ones with breakbars, I find blind works wonders on these guys. Bring the right tools and they go down easy.

I was having fun with a similar build too, dagger and wells. I find that you need to make your opponent use all their dodges then drop wells on them. Well of Darkness and the Chilling Darkness trait are quite effective and making sure they stay in them for the duration after that.
I find though that a fight with a thief, especially a haste spamming one, is dependent on whether or not I have full life force. If full I can usually withstand the burst then they’re just paper.
The only ones we have on our weapons are on the staff, Putrid Mark – Blast and Necrotic Grasp – Projectile. The other finishers are on our minions or underwater. I don’t understand why Life Blast isn’t one, it’s a projectile so why not make it a finisher?
Even a guy just shouting “fear me” is apparently scarier than a necro. I just find it strange how necro, which was originally the only class to have fear, is last in terms of fear duration.

I experienced this on my necro as well. Me and another necro kept fearing each other for 20 seconds.
I also experienced this on my mesmer with the mirror of anguish trait. A necro feared me and we both were feared for 20 seconds.
