Scepter is not viable in tPvP or sPvP, now it is not viable in wvw against any player with half a brain.
You’re wrong, on all accounts. It’s nothing personal, but you are wrong and anet just killed the condition mesmer.

It shouldn’t be removed but I frequently complain to friends about being the “portal kitten” and I avoid it at all costs.

I’ve been playing confusion (not glam) since I first saw Flimp’s build months ago, but I’ve already changed my build in anticipation of the nerf to get more used to it. Even as confusion stands now quality players cleanse it pretty well. Unless we get that new condition the necros are anticipating or there are significant trait line changes I really cannot see me sticking with a condition build in ANY type of weakened state.

I think they really did everyone a disservice here. Even if one thinks the glam builds are overpowered the normal condition mesmers are not. We got really hosed.

I can see the point of glamour builds being much, much less viable but standard condition/confusion builds should still have some level of viability. I think it’s going to be a matter of playing and seeing how it goes. But yeah, a day or so after the patch I think we’ll have a pretty good idea if confusion based builds are worth sticking with. Keep in mind this applies to engi’s too.

If they nerf it same as pvp we already know. Confusion builds are almost worthless in spvp and they will be in WvW too. If it happens I’m going to another class.

Or maybe you need to stop whining, grow up, and drop the feigned sense of honor. Your group dynamic is such you can deal with it (and you did). You weren’t 1v1ing anyone. You were jumping people in your roaming duo, which is fine by me. But don’t be surprised when you get jumped sometimes too. I didn’t target you because you were already engaged. I targeted you because you were there and enjoy fighting people of high(er) skill level. This is WvW. Things happen.

You know you’ve played too much Mesmer when:

You look down to make sure you’re standing on the line before “leaping” into a room of potential competitors at he office.

Ignore the naysayers. You won’t be good right away. It takes time. Go into hotjoin pvp and work on your fighting skills.

I love how you used the temp curtain to pull them INTO the warden from behind.

I have to say that even though I know the class pretty well now, other mesmer’s give me the most problems. Our clones and phantasms really are so frustrating I
sympathize with other classes facing us. And the main problem is I think we have a variety of legitimate builds that are quite effective in the hands of a good mesmer and its really tough to spec for that variety.

On the other end of the spectrum is the Warrior, who I just own.

@Osicat If you use this build in PVP be prepared for all kinds of abusive name-calling. All I do is PVP now and I get the same thing all the time. One guy chastised me for “ripping off” the Immortal build even though I credit pryo and this thread. I too modify things more to my playstyle and I’ve gone through 20 of my own builds but that person didn’t seem to care. I get called OP all the time.

On a side note, I was so excited to see you in hotjoin pvp last week, I proceeded to forget I was in a new build and got stomped. I know that’s not the only reason I lost but it was fun to see you nonetheless.

You should dig the update to the torch. No longer channeling ability!

As people have mentioned it really depends on what you want to do in WvW.

The shatter builds are great IMO for small party roaming, picking off other roamers, and doing 1v1.

I’ve used Pyro’s tank retaliation build to great effect defending supply camps, keeps, and other strategic points, but in zerg on zerg action you have to be mindful of positioning. This is a great build but IMO is not good for pursuit (I use it in PVP and people call me OP).

Another build to keep in mind is Seven Mirrors “shatter” build. It has higher toughness than normal shatter builds (and less shatter), utilizes a lot stealth, and plain keeps people confused. It has been a great anti-zerg build and I’ve used it extensively attacking supply camps with small groups. Highly recommended.

Awesome man. I see you’ve incorporated some of the retaliation buffs of the focus. I switched to focus and I literally had players running away from me because they didn’t know how to handle it after a few tries. I’m a big fan, keep it up!

I agree with the positive sentiments so far in this thread. I have been skeptical of the focus in WvW aside from pulling people off walls, but I changed to this spec out of curiosity and I love it. In fact, many opponents have no idea how to handle it and simply run away. Good job pyro!

Honestly the best tactic against thieves for me has been the move to toughness gear. If I see a thief coming I go on offense. If I don’t, I blink out after he appears. If that isn’t up I use sword #2 or use decoy to move out of the immediate area.

After watching your videos, I added two main knights pieces to my berserkers setup, switched to staff, and I have to say the difference is night and day. This build is under appreciated. While I cannot burn a single opponent down quite as fast, I am a much better mesmer now. A thief friend of mine also went toughness with apothecary gear and our small group of 5 was able to stop several zergs. It was very difficult for them to kill us. Thanks for the videos.
