Please do what it takes to put it back to where it needs to be, ANet.

Thanks for the info about the sold tab purge. News to me.

As for the general performance issues, I doubt it is on my side. I run GW2 on 3 different rigs from 3 different locations. The only common denominator is Comcast as the ISP, 1 connection being Comcast Home and 2 being Comcast Business. Other evidence that suggests it’s not on my end include fellow guild mates from other parts of the country who also share performance issues.

I wish AN would pump up the juice on it’s TP hardware. The game appears to be profitable. Not only could the hardware need some boosts, the GUI for the TP itself could also use a revamp.

For those who trade a lot on the trade market, I’m confident you’ve seen how clunky the trade post as behaved in the past weeks. Listing items has you clicking at buttons that either ignore the command or act very sluggish, for instance.

Well, I seem to of found another new feature. Please navigate to the trade post window, and attempt to view your sold items. Is it only keeping track of 7 days worth? Has anyone else noticed this long term? It’s new to me.

Ironically, the Sold tab has been mostly broken for me since 2 months post release. I had such a high number of items sold the server had problems pulling the query, or it was artificially limited by software.

AN, please. Please stop it. Please stop it now. As as trader more than anything, the trade post already saps major enjoyment out via the now notorious “error attempting to sell” fiasco that the dev team mysteriously refuses to comment on.

Now we have further limitations? I would of assumed that things get better over time, not further limited. The trade post has needed a revamp since release, and here we are taking more away from it.

Error Attempting to Sell

Being that a bot is programmable, having a system with predictable behavior (i.e. the “Error”) is not going to stop bots. Whats to stop people from listing items at a minimum pace in order to bypass this?

Another interesting thing is that to my knowledge of following this disaster of a system for over a year now, ANet has never publicly spoken about it.

The system is a limp wristed attempt at regulating sell listings. Why sell orders only, I don’t know. I can put out buy orders as fast as I can input them into the trade post. When I sell stacks as fast as I can, I will hit the “error” by the 8th item at the earliest and 10th at the latest – like clockwork.

Then I’m on time out. Twiddle my thumbs while I have a full inventory with maxed out sized bags that needs to get listed.

The trade post could use some TLC. It could use a better UI. It could use a search function that better differentiates between armor types, for instance. It could do without the “error attempting to sell” also.

Open raid content doesn't work!

I would like to see large scale content geared towards clans/guilds.

I hate playing with the public. I hate relying on people who just happen to show up. I want to rely on my friends, people i know and trust. people I am familiar with playing with. people i have strong relationships with.

But thats not how content in GW2 works, especially the “epic” content.

I’m at the point now where I’m burned out from the game. My main has ascended armor, 4 legendary weapons, full ascended jewelry. The only thing left to grind out would be a fractal back piece but I just don’t care enough to do it.

Zerging around another zone killing a reskinned Jungle Wurm is not something exciting or new to me.

Looks like it’s time for another break.

Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

WvW map completion jammed me up in a bad way. My server was the same color for 4 weeks, and I needed locations in areas that had not been capped in weeks.

It was very frustrating. In my opinion map completion is a PVE achievement. Forcing me into WvW just to get the map done is doing one thing: taking a spot away from a person who actually wants to play WvW.

What's wrong with Guild Wars 2

The game has stagnated for me. The living story is not all that it’s cracked up to be, in my opinion. We have a massive map with huge portions of the world closed off. Instead we get tedious and grinding living story patches that I have zero interest in participating in.

I want to grow my toon. I can’t anymore. I have 3 legendary weapons, all ascended jewelry and now ascended armor that I crafted out of sheer boredom to have something to do with my toon besides rehash the nightmare that is Tix’s air ship.

Expansion, please. New skills, please. Guild vs Guild in the PvE world, please. Level cap raise with new areas, please. New races, please. Etc, etc, etc.

The only thing I can expect is more living story, which is the exact thing I don’t want to do. Starting to think I’m on the verge of another 3+ month break from the title, which is a total shame since there is plenty I could be doing had the .dev team focused on other things.

Oh well. GW2 is still a good game at its core.

From what I’ve seen, Arena Net has yet to give any sort of official word on this “error.”

Would be interested in having an explanation as I see it many times per day.

I just pulled down all my for sale items to re-list and it took literally over 1 hour to do so with the “error” slowing me down.

The chat suppression that GW2 possess is the worse I’ve ever seen in over a decade of online gaming. The trade post “error” is another suppression device (i suspect) implemented by AN that catches just as many normal people doing nothing wrong as the chat suppression does. It’s a quality-of-life nightmare.

The fact that AN basically refuses to give any sort of significant explanation makes it even more mysterious. Failed suppression systems. Innocent well meaning players caught up in it. Radio silence from the .dev team. Why? This game is very polished, and the areas that aren’t – and never have been are treated as if they don’t exist publicly.

Anet makes money off of mini’s via gems. Why more titles and quality of life features aren’t added to them is beyond me. They could be making more money off an under developed feature.

GW2 is pretty polished as a game, but it does have it’s odd ball things, the bare bones presence of mini’s in GW2 is one of those things.

Message suppression not working reasonably

Dench.5968

This morning I was semi running the Champ Train in Queensdale. No one had a Commander icon up, so I turned mine on when I arrived and tried my best to answer “where is the train?,” coordinate the boar walk, try to get Wasp and Boar in, etc. It was going very good. No one was trollish, no fighting in chat, a great morning.

At the very end I had to leave for lunch. The message I was trying to type was “this is my last stop.” This way another person can pop up the icon before the event was over and it can continue to be run well with one person loosely keeping track of it overall.

Well, no. I couldn’t. According to the games client I was excessively messaging. Only I hadn’t said anything in chat for 9 minutes.

Attached below are the chat logs from my time spent in the zone. My “Main” chat pane shows all chat (guild, party, say, whisper, map). If it was sent to me in any way, it shows up in main. Same if I send chat out, it’s there. In other words, everything I said in chat can be found in the screen shots below.

ironically I was complaining to another person about the trade post “error” which is another problem entirely that also catches tons of people and stops them dead in their tracks when they are not doing anything wrong.

I’ve been suppressed before like this, although never so obviously incorrect.

For the record I never spam chat, harass people, pick on people, abuse chat or anything else like that. I like to think I am almost always a positive person to have around in chat, so I see no reason to be on some sort of list of people who can be suppressed faster due to past problems.

The 2 glaring things that I think should be worked on are the chat suppression and the trade post suppression. I think both of those seem to be in need of some tweaking in an other wised polished game.

Opinions? Any other experiences? Doesn’t seem to be working as intended…

Why do people stop playing GW2?

Dench.5968

I still like this game, but I am bored out of my mind when I log on. I am down to just playing the market and doing my dailies at this point.

I am not interested in the temporary content. As an example the Halloween patch seemed like a grindy mess of zerging in a map shaped like a square. I put a few hours into that and never looked back.

I did the clock puzzle and completed it around my 30th attempt. I got a prize that I will never use and I would of loved to of gotten a title for it instead.

I think Anet’s staff has good intentions and they seem to care way more about this game that SWTOR’s staff did, but man do they need to change gears from this living story thing.

The game is bleeding players without a doubt. My initial guild came here on release with 30 members, didnt last a month. My second guild with 100+ active players died in the Spring. My current guild with 50+ active members also looks like it’s fading. My current guild also requires 100% rep time since it’s the only reasonable way to create a basic clan community in this game.

PVP needs to be 100% revamped. WvW looks beyond stale. PvE needs some action. Would be nice to get some news on new classes within a year or so. etc, etc.

The Karma nerf was heavy handed.

There are two types of general groups of players in GW2 in regards to karma:

Group 1: Has not ground out a legendary. These people often say they have to much karma and have trouble finding places in game to spend it productively.

Group 2: People who have ground out a legendary. These people have no karma left after the Mystic Clover RNG love fest.

I suspect the price of them will go up but it will be slow. I put bids out on a considerable amount of set 1 minis over the past month and am keeping them for at least 6 months. I like to spread out spare gold as much as I can as diversely as possible. Event dyes, theses mini’s, etc.

It’s better than sitting on a thousand gold doing nothing. Rather have 500g on set one minis bought low off of bids that will either do nothing or raise in value.

I already made an easy 100g profit off of stacks of purchased (from trade post) Algae Dye, and that stuff is still available off the gem store. That stuff is going in one direction, and it’s not down.

Dench.5968

I’m serious, it serves no other purpose than to make you pause between items.

Not sure if I have seen it confirmed, but 99% sure that “error attempting to sell” is in there by design, not a bug. And in that context, slowing you down a little when listing multiple items makes sense.

I think most people who use the trading post a lot think it’s not a bug and something intentionally done by Arena Net. Some here think it’s to protect limited hardware, others think it’s an anti bot measure.

I personally lean towards a poorly thought out and failed anti bot system. I think ANets silence gives this theory credit as most dev teams refuse to talk about anti bot measures or systems, as they are doing with this “error.”

If this was a legit error or a throttle system i see no reason to keep it quiet. A simple “yes it is a bug and it is very low priority” or “we do this to throttle sell listings” would clear up most of the mystery if those were the cases.

I personally think it’s a major speed bump for heavy trading post users with no clear explanation of its existence which is very frustrating to people who hit it 20+ times per day like I do. I’m at the point now where I watch a youtube video on one screen and list items on another. Thats how bored I am when I list my items due to the slow pace.

Error attempting to sell.......

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Dench.5968

Dench.5968

There are 3 theories right now about this:

- It’s an anti bot measure that fails at life.
- It’s an intentional feature that protects 1990’s era server technology
-It’s a legitmate error that has been ignored by Arena Net.

Things that don’t set it off:
-Buying items as fast as possible with a mouse/keyboard
-Bidding on items as fast as possible with a mouse/keyboard

I love every and all things you said. well put!

Pfft, 1990s technology. Show me a transactional database that can do multiple thousands of insertions and deletions a second on moderately priced servers then you have a point. It’s the insertion into the TP DB and the removal from your character’s DB that is the costly part. Bidding is merely a subtraction of coin and creation of a bid and queries can be deferred slightly without a player noticing but making sure an item is properly moved between the two, preventing “dupes”, keeping a record to allow rollbacks and restoration.

As someone who owns a website with a database, I can confirm that my $6/month server takes about 6 seconds to do 10,000 database updates. I’ll test insertions and deletions for you later tonight.
If bandwidth was the issue, why can I buy things as fast as I can click? and I can buy things like 3 times faster than I could sell things if this error wasn’t there. selling should be insert-delete, buying should be delete-insert. (or maybe insert-update vs. delete-update). I see no reason buying and selling would have different bandwidth requirements.

thanks

Error attempting to sell.......

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Dench.5968

Dench.5968

And saying it’s using 1990s technology is as equal as my “anonymous post”.

Have you worked with database servers, as in developing or maintaining them? I’m telling you unless you are willing to put in a metric ton of memory, which costs beaucoup bucks, performance is limited to a few thousand transactions per minute, like in the 2-3 thousand range, at most. And that includes queries. Insertion/deletion costs takes longer and therefore fewer of them can be done.

And no we aren’t going to be trading CVs here.

Then there’s the web server itself, remember the TP we see is simply a browser. We talk to the server, the server calls up the database server, the web server gets the OK and then you see the OK as the browser gets the OK from the web server.

Edit: And if for some miracle someone from ANet comes along and tells us that the reason selling on the TP is artificially slowed and it’s intended to allow equal access to all then what will you say and do? They’re wrong? They should spend the money on a better server infrastructure? It’s a flippin’ game. We aren’t even paying them monthly. And they probably have to use whatever equipment that’s already at NCSOFT’s two data centers or that they had standardized on.

I’m tired that so many people are spoiled on how fast computers are on TV or in movies. Guess what, they aren’t. Not the reasonably affordable ones (<$100K).

If Anet comes along and says “it’s like this due to hardware limitations” I’ll say “ok, thanks for the reply.”

GW2 is a polished game. Mostly. One of the glaring unpolished portions is the trade post, and one of the annoying things about the trade post is the error message. It’s not the end of the world, but there are continuous threads about it with many people wondering why it does that. The fact that it’s not being answered implies to me that it could be something worth hiding, and a hardware limitation in my opinion would not be worth hiding unless it was a real hot mess.

I’m a sys admin at a small university. I oversee our server environment but I don’t admin it typically. I worked alongside the director of IT to replace my works server environment, so I have some knowledge of hardware config and pricing.

I really wish ANet could give us 30 seconds and explain what this is all about and if it’s here to stay or not.

This issue takes all the fun right out of posting multiple items on the trade market. Every night I battle this error message and I am beyond sick of it.

I stopped trading in high numbers because of it. Try listing 160 items as fast as you can. Tell me how it was an hour later. Blah.

But the thing is most players aren’t listing 160 items as fast as they can. They do a few, in the field or at a vendor and with blue/green salvage for luck they likely have even fewer items to sell. I’m guessing you are a dungeon speed runner so you want to dump your loot and get onto the next run.

As it is now you can burst sell a small number and then you get a time out. Or you can sell slower and not have a time out at all. That many items, 10-15 minutes.

I’ve run under 25 dungeons in the past year. I’m a flipper.

They ain’t Amazon and it’s not running on some Linux box under someone’s desk but you seem to overestimate the performance of a modern database that can be pummeled during peak hours.

You’ve been selling that hard for a long time here. We both know you have no citations and what you’ve been saying is pure speculation based off your guesstimates on AN policy and hardware – in other words, as significant as an anonymous person on the internet.

None of us know for sure why it does it. AN can’t be bothered to answer.

Looking at this forums snail paced performance as an example of their equipment/services, you could be on to something, though.

I’m a little confused on how this works. I can understand the tp is getting a bit of an overload at times when a ton of people try to sell. But it gets annoying even at times when I get this late at night or in the mornings. The slowing down suggestion did work at first but not anymore :’(

There are 3 theories right now about this:

- It’s an anti bot measure that fails at life.
- It’s an intentional feature that protects 1990’s era server technology
-It’s a legitmate error that has been ignored by Arena Net.

Things that set it off:
-Selling items quickly.

Things that don’t set it off:
-Buying items as fast as possible with a mouse/keyboard
-Bidding on items as fast as possible with a mouse/keyboard

I find that it will get set off anywhere from 5-10 items depending on how fast you sell. I can get it to trigger 100% of the time no problem in 10 items or less.

Getting Karma

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dench.5968

Dench.5968

Keep playing like you normally do and worry less about karma. You will accumulate is fast enough and by the time you have most of the other pieces you should have the karma you need for them.

That’s a tough sell.

I’ve been asking a lot of questions to people about this new rate of Karma. I have found one thing that is essentialy set in stone. We have two groups of people and those groups are cut and dry

1. The “I dont think the nerf is a big deal” group. These people have 1,000,000+ karma typically. They have been collecting karma for up to a year, and don’t spend it. Mysteriously, they have a surplus and don’t care about the nerf becuase they don’t use karma in the 1st place.

2. The “I have built a legendary and 6+ months of karma (old drop rate) barely cut it.” This is where me and my wife fell in. I got my legendary in July (been playing since release) and I RAN OUT of karma while trying to craft mystic clovers. So whats that, ~10 months worth of karma and my RNG was so bad that I actually had to grind out events to make up for more (i had to grind the monthly out also for the 10 jugs for shards)? I spent ~1+ million karma on my legendary, it might of been more. I lost track of it. All due to bad RNG at the forge.

Karma is way to hard to get right now, especially for endgame material. I couldn’t imagine a player buying the game today and having that endless grind for a legendary, it would be game breaking and for nothing.

I was going to buy some cultural weapon skins for my Syvalri. 30,000 karma each. NOPE. More content skipped because I know I can’t spare karma in the current scheme.

As a very active trader, this feature jams me up 10+ times per day at a minimum. I have lots of items to sell and I am continuously blocked from selling them in a reasonable time frame.

Why was Karma income nerfed by ~90%?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dench.5968

Dench.5968

I personally had some of the worse RNG rolls ever seen while trying to create Mystic Clovers. Under this new system, I’ll never have enough patience to craft enough clovers for a new legendary.

Karma is only in abundance for people who ignore it in their inventory. Players who actually use it to buy armor and shards will never tell you how they have a surplus of it.

Just when the WvWvW badges were a horror show for those who don’t play WvWvW, looks like Karma is going to be the new bottleneck for those who want to craft end game gear.

Give me a break.

Error when attempting to sell

Please provide evidence it’s an anti-bot measure.

I wish I could. There is very little information about the trade post that I can find from official sources. When I ask you to cite your claim, I am not doing so disrespectfully. I am genuinely looking for .dev/official information in regards to more trade post information.

Working in IT and occasionally around monster databases, I suspect that it’s not a hardware limitation (and if it was I would cringe, the power is there and it’s not at the cost as it used to be). It could be though, we simply don’t know since Arena Net is not exactly responsive to most questions.

So lets pose the question to the .dev team again: why does the trade post show an error when attempting to sell many items quickly? anti bot? hard ware limitations? other? combinations of several things?

I’m saying it’s a hardware or software issue and not an anti-bot measure.

If it’s a hardware issue, they may not want to spend the money upgrading the TP server so it was easier to put a “speed limit” on the rate of posting items for sale or updating queries.

If it’s a software problem, it may be due to them licensing a “online MMO market solution” from some 3rd party and the limit isn’t something they can configure.

Please provide evidence of this.

"Error" when selling too many items?

I’m talking average here. Pacing, selling 15 to 20 items over the entire minute, one every 3 to 4 seconds, not selling 15-20 things quickly and then waiting out the rest of the minute. I do it all the time selling runes after a large salvage run.

Please provide evidence of this.

Here’s something to think about. The entire TP could be a 3rd party app that they license. They can customize the look, it’s just a web page, and they can set the rules on how trading is done (auction house, consignment shop, trading post, fees) but the underlying infrastructure is out of their control. That’s why font scaling is bad and may be why it doesn’t perform as well as well or they would like. Even error messages could be beyond their control. Just something to think about.

Please provide evidence of this.

And 10 per minute is no were near the limit, 15 to 20 a minute is doable without triggering the time out.

Please provide evidence of this.

The really funny part about this “error” being there to combat bots is that it doesn’t really do anything to hinder bots. It only ends up annoying players.

Once the bot programmer figures out the timing of the “error”, it’s MORE than easy enough to program around.

The bot programmer can do one of two things:

1.) They can sell 10 items quickly, then put a wait timer in before selling item 11

or

2.) They can figure out the time between sales so they can sell continuously.

Either way….it doesn’t combat botting. It annoys players.

Exactly. The limitation is beyond useless to those who are going to exploit the market for real life cash. People who’s intentions are to generate real money off this game are going to modify their bots to circumvent the highly predictable nature of this feature.

It’s annoying. It doesn’t stop botting. I hit it every day several times.

Time to be reworked or removed. How this got into the game in it’s current state is bad enough. The 1+ year troll of it hindering players is old.

After people got done cashing out from these farming events they went to the legendary market. I’ve havent seen this many legendaries sold out for a long time.
