Hi everyone,
Well it looks like my release notes weren’t added to explain this, so I’ll try to allay the confusion. Yes, some of the cultural armor has gone through some major updates. Folks have been vehemently requesting that the cultural armors glow, and they have been confused at the old glows that were there. This confusion was because a lot of the dye-to-skin blends on stems would glow the skin color, but not their chosen glow color.
In updating the armors, this comes with particular considerations. The armor glows are not on the same system as the body glow, so they will only glow the color of the area dyed. Armor glow also does not play well with alpha, so I have to avoid any alpha edges. The problem with this is most of those areas that look good glowing are also some of the areas that blend to skin. Armor glow also negates specularity.
So. What this means for you is, to add your glow, I reworked the dye channels to give you the largest choice and control possible over the glow. The areas that glow are now selectable for you. Some of the textures are also better balanced to give you more consistent results… you won’t have to guess what color you need to find to make the red feel red, for example. It will just work.
This currently affects Medium Tier 2 (legs will be re-addressed for better glow and dye alignment, sorry about that, it got past me) and Tier 3, Light Tier 1 (female only), and Light Tier 3. The other weights and tiers will be assessed for a similar pass to give glow or upgrade glow results when possible.
I’ve been hearing your cries to get more glow on the sylvari and am doing my best to give you more control over your character customization.
Prior recent patch:
Cultural 3 Medium Gloves – 1 dye box for male.
Post recent patch:
Cultural 3 Medium Gloves – 2 dye boxes for male.
The addition of a dye box on this particular piece of armour? Yes, good, VERY GOOD, it allows for glow which was limited previously and raises the gloves above a simple, bland, wrist length pair.
So…would it be possible to tell me why a dye box simply wasn’t added to all pieces of the armour, where necessary, to allow the choice and freedom of the glow that is spoke of?
I mean, surely that’s better than changing entire armour sets and alienating people who have spent good money on obtaining said sets, right? Because that’s what is happening here. You’ve gone ahead and changed armour without a second thought to any ramifications, that much is clear in your post. All you’ve done is caved to the more vocal portion…well now that another vocal portion has come out thanks to this atrocious change…what now?

Check your mail inbox, delete a few unnecessary mails.
Usually the most common reason purchases like that don’t come through is the mail is full, or thinks it’s full.
Greetings,
This is purely in reference to the LORE, not a discussion, request or suggestion for game mechanics. Do not derail this in any such direction.
Now that that’s over with…my query is simple & hopefully ANet will poke their heads in.
Question: While a mortal individual may only have access to one of the Bloodstones, can a mortal individual effectively change their profession?
Example: Can a Guardian of thirty years, begin learning the arts of the Necromancer & ultimately become one?
Any & all thoughts are appreciated…but hopefully, an accurate answer will arise!

While I appreciate all you’re doing for us, Gaile, I think you might be overthinking things on a scale similar to how some may be reading too much heat into your words.
Take my situation, for example:
I played the first part of the event, despite horrific lag.
I skipped the second part due to commitments elsewhere, however I was online & playing.
I couldn’t attend the third part, IE, the final boss & reward chest part, because I couldn’t even get past the client.
If I was lucky enough to get an authentication email, it would time out.
If I was lucky enough to get it to authenticate, the game would outright refuse to load.
I performed all standard & some advancedtroubleshooting on my PC, laptop & router throughout a good few hours.
Baring in mind I had ZERO problems earlier that day (event day) & ZERO problems the day after. It was purely the event day evening where I could not log in what-so-ever.
As I understand your posts (I’ve read them all throughout this thread), similar situations to mine, you’ve said you would think I’d receive a chest. Well I haven’t (just checked while writing this). I understand there’s problems but…really…
It’s going to be impossible to balance “fairness for every single individual in every single situation”, you’re right. You are inevitably right & anyone who denies that point is just being stubborn.
So what’s the best bet? What if you roll out this “dev teams chosen fair fix” & people who tried in vain to attend but couldn’t, don’t get a chest?
Surely it’s better to rectify the problem en masse & ensure everyone has at bare minimum one chest, as the original intent for the event?
I’ve gotta be honest, I won’t be the only one VASTLY disappointed if I end up potless, despite a “fairest possible fix”.
Thanks again for all you’re doing & if you read this, thanks for taking the time. Just needed to get myself heard, as I’m sure you can understand.
Hey everybody, as these are coming through your game mail, make sure your mailbox isn’t full. It’s actually good practice anyway to empty your mailbox if you don’t have unclaimed loot in there.
My email is empty, and I never received a thing.
This so far.
Couldn’t even log in on the evening of the event…no chest yet.
if you didnt do the event, you wont get a chest bro
I should hope that I will, considering the only reason I couldn’t log in was not being able to get the client to launch the game successfully. Funnily enough, the client worked fine before & after the event. So y’know…

For note: Mailbox is empty.
My situation is that I couldn’t log in at all during the evening of the event, despite trying multiple times.
Am I still meant to be expecting a chest, or…?
Not as far as I know?
On alts, I’ve gotten into the habit of getting them 400 cooking, as it’s relatively cheap.
Without a Crafting Booster, I go from level 2 (fresh) to level 15 (nearly level 16), progressively, as I level cooking to 400.
Arguably though, getting all 8 crafts to 400 should get you to 80 with a little extra effort in the world. So while it’s not an auto-10 levels (& I’m not sure where you’ve got this from), it’s more or less right.
As above – as far as I’m aware you can’t actually put Legendaries on the trading post.
Even then, I don’t think anyone would be willing to pay the obviously HUGE mark-up that would inevitably find itself applied.
I’m not 100% sure but…I was given GW2 as a gift, prior to release, as was a friend of mine, digitally.
I can’t entirely remember rightly as I’ve slept since then but I do recall being emailed a serial code.
Don’t go quoting me but…I’m preeeetty sure I’m remembering accurately enough. Purchase presents a code, not an instant binding to an account. I think.
Well the Nightmare Court is hardly “standard”. We see them using whips as weapons on a regular basis, for a basic but obvious example.
Remember too that Cadeyrn is a lore NPC & as such, is more powerful than us…in a sense. For example, Master Examplar Countess Anise can create what, ten illusions of herself when we can only make three.
Think of it like that.
Indeed, many people are saying it – perhaps too many for it to be a hoax – but I hope it’s true.
I couldn’t log on at all the evening of the event, was way too jammed. I’ve hated missing out ever since just because capacity wasn’t increased for such a large event.
I would hope so…
The evening of the event, I couldn’t even get past authentication it was that bad.
We’ll just have to wait & see. I’ll be awake the next couple of hours & the announcement was ~3 hours ago…so we’ll see.
Better*, not quite “right” in my mind.
There’s still a LOT of arguable “junk” in these chests for 250 gems.
Personally, if the mini-pets were bought separately then that would be better in my mind.
I think what’s really getting me at the moment though? For weeks, -weeks- the Gold<→Gem ratio was roughly 124 Gems for 1 Gold, it was this way mere hours ago too. Suddenly, once the patch hits? roughly 85 Gems for 1 Gold. Makes it so arguably, buying gems is more effective than converting gold.
I know ANet need to make money but fiddling with the conversion rates like that is…not good business, in my mind.
