Hey, don’t let this thread die. I’m holding onto the vague hope a few Anet devs have ranger primary. Btw, while the melee ranger does work, you need to face that a dodgy ranger is like a thief wanna be. I am using it now, but I gotta say that I could be using my thief doing the same thing more effectively. Rangers were meant to be an adaptive class, but to take the range from the ranger and then argue that it wasn’t supposed to be it’s primary role seems a little dumb. I don’t want my to keep rolling with the punches I want to hit back and get a class that has more than a very few specific builds that only work in specific circumstances. I want ANet to let the ranger succeed like the other classes can.
Also, I don’t play my main (a ranger) in WvW anymore. I play my warrior and I gank rangers easy kills.
HEY that was my joke! (before it got infracted by people who didn’t like the truth
)
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall point you to other classes. Try the guardian. Sure it is simple and OP, but hey, at least you will stand a chance!
What I find most interesting is that pre-patch, canines and drake had a higher DPS than any other pet. That position now belongs to the cats. Also, this finally answers whether the traiting pets actually makes a difference. I guess traits don’t effect cats and speeding up the bear makes it unable to hit the broad-side of a barn.
I can’t view that, but I recommend keeping the wolf. The wolf saves you when you get downed (hit f2, fear), can be switched to from another pet for a knockdown, and the ravens blind saves you from one hit and then it has to recharge. I wish I could see the build, but if you want to have some tankyness, never shun a bear with protect me, frost trap, and healing spring. Outlast the target because the ranger’s damage is kinda subpar.
Yes, we care about the forums.
We also care about all the classes equally.
I truly believe you care, but you made the wrong changes.
Why not buff the pet’s A.I. if you were going to take away some of it’s ability to do damage? In dungeons and WvW it is sometimes impossible to keep your pet up and with it your damage and support. Why not either make it dodge with the master or give us a way to make it evade alone? Better yet, why not buff the master of the pet so that it isn’t so dependent on it’s unreliable class mechanic? For example, a warrior an either choose to rely on it’s adrenaline for buffs or damage, or not. A ranger can still be dependent on the pet, but at least make it a force to be reckoned with alone. I know I don’t let the stupid pets touch me in WvW and it can be a bother to get my own pet to make contact too.
I love the game, but my favorite class and toon are struggling to be part of a team if we can’t support like the support classes or damage like the favorite DD’s. So what is left for us?
I’m not saying I don’t like all the changes, I not saying I can’t be dangerous, and I’m not saying I can’t do something. I’m just saying I cant do any role as good as another class and that the ranger lacks a niche right now.
The pet debuff hasn’t made me any easier to kill, they didn’t debuff my dodges or me irl, but my damage has been cut. In order to reach my OLD level of damage I must work to buff my pet but…. DAT A.I. !!!
The pet debuffs would be OK for me if I could somehow get my pet to somehow HIT my enemy. Personally, other ranger’s pets don’t hit me unless they are a jag. If they could just how give the pet a little more reliability as a source of damage or give us some way to make it evade I wouldn’t be as mad. To make me actually happy I would like a way for the actual toon itself to do more damage. A pet tends not to last in a zerg or against things in dungeons like the spinning lazer death chamber in the Aetherblade dungeon or the AOE of champions and when that happens, it is a little like losing part of your character’s weapon. I just want my ranger with a down pet to be at least near another class without their class mechanics.
Well, while the ranger ins’t useless…. wait, what am I saying, There isn’t anything they can do that something else an do better. Hell, a warrior with a bow does more damage with a bow even if the ranger can get further away. Rangers are apparently are meant to be reliant on their pets for damage, but then they went and nerfed them. Why is it only rangers are so dependent on their class mechanic? Why would anet nerf them? My main is gonna be on the shelf for a while.
Was this patch a nerf to pet damage in dungeons? Nope:
I did notice that trait. I went out of my way to get my precision up to get that buff for my pets, but even with it I would still ask why the pet damage was lowered. While I am not going to claim I have extensively tested this new perk and it’s effects on our damage, I still wonder if our damage will still be rather low?

1) Then why did pets get nerfed instead of being split in PvE like mesmer phantams? Pets actually needed to be buffed in PvE.
2) Any plans to make pets hit moving targets, AKA attacking while moving.
Hah, the moving target thing is great! I absolutely love when my pet runs by an enemy then has to turn around to get them. If you take a trait to make them faster it isn’t as big a deal; it helps you catch runners and get your pet out of trouble too.

The class is my favorite but lets face it, it was always sub-par. The new patch lowers their damage further and buffs the most useless mechanic in the game, spirits. They can’t dodge like a thief, hit like a warrior or spam conditions like the necromancer. What can they do anymore? The update did have some good things (I like the ax), but to insist on using the awful spirit trait line, making the ranged class get closer, and nerfing the pets has made the rangers so sub par… I don’t know if I want to play my favorite toon anymore.
I am sorry if there is already a topic like this out there, I did a search and saw nothing.
I absolutely loved GW Factions with it’s Asian theme, warring factions, unique classes, and varied environments and I want to go there again. I know it might never be possible especially after the problem with the canthan area of Divinity’s Reach, but it would be nice to get something back.
Example: The ritualist. Held items and temporary weapons were part of their class mechanics and GW2 could do this so much better the GW1 given what has been shown with the elementalist weapons and the environment weapons. Summoning spirits would only be a bonus!
Let’s bring the pandas back!
