Will do, thanks. I’m very surprised that they can’t detect these kinds of words during the registration process, when they do in the forum and when creating a character.

For future reference I created Request #674706

Verbal abuse by player with curse in name

I’m not sure where to put this, but a particular player with the S-word right in their account name (how did that pass the censor screen?) falsely accused me of botting during a Solo Arena match. Of course they wouldn’t explain what they thought I was doing, and instead worked the typical troll angle (“get mad cuz ur getting banned”). They continued verbally abusing me after the match. I’m guessing I’m not the first one their account has done this to… what’s the best way to have ANet serve some justice? I have screenshots of everything. I added them to my friends list and they have about 1000 achievement points… how does someone like that stay in the game this long without getting addressed?

Not getting loot from Legendary Bosses

Having the same issues as everyone else – killed all three knights in full party with plenty of DPS (certainly getting drops from everything else), but no loot whatsoever. Would be nice if an ANet rep could acknowledge this bug.

Allie, thank you very much for this heads up notice about this update. Would you mind clarifying something?

Q: What is happening to the rank reward chests and their respective vendors?
A:
The chests will be removed from the game as a reward. You will still keep the ones in your inventory until they are used, but we will no longer be giving them out or selling them in any avenue.

Is this happening on March 18th or at a later date?

Regression Testing - A way to prevent bugs

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Dizzle.5830

Dizzle.5830

This is a suggestion to ANet to help prevent the many bugs that come with each patch.

Setting up regression tests would be a great way to avoid so many bugs that have been previously fixed, or introduced into existing code because of new code.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regression_testing

From the article:
——————————————————————————————-
Regression testing is a type of software testing that seeks to uncover new software bugs, or regressions, in existing functional and non-functional areas of a system after changes such as enhancements, patches or configuration changes, have been made to them.

The intent of regression testing is to ensure that a change such as those mentioned above has not introduced new faults. One of the main reasons for regression testing is to determine whether a change in one part of the software affects other parts of the software.

Common methods of regression testing include rerunning previously completed tests and checking whether program behavior has changed and whether previously fixed faults have re-emerged. Regression testing can be performed to test a system efficiently by systematically selecting the appropriate minimum set of tests needed to adequately cover a particular change.
—————————————————————————————

Imagine if ANet had a big list of automated tests that:

  • Checked if Mesmer clones stay alive when their target is stealthed
  • Made sure PvE bonuses were affect by WvW upgrades
  • Tested the drop rate of Fractal Skins
  • Checked that boons like retaliation worked consistently in different zones/dungeons
  • and so on…

Any discovered bugs would have their own test to ensure they’re never re-introduced. Any new features would have a list of tests to ensure they’re always working properly. This concept is not new; in fact there is a development process based around writing and implementing these tests: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Test-driven_development

Every time they were ready to test a new patch, they run all of these automated tests against it, and the tests tell them if any bugs have been introduced (eg: WvW bonuses are NOT being reflected in PvE).

The hard part would be writing all these tests up front. There would be lots and lots of combinations to test for, but if it can be automated (and it can…) it would be totally worth it. In fact, I would be surprised if ANet didn’t already have something like this in place… unfortunately, I do not think they are testing enough of their functionality. I realize that, as an MMO, GW2 would require tons and tons of tests to fully check. I am not trying to go overboard and say everything needs to have a test. But I think the examples I gave above are realistic (they are all also recent).

I love you ANet, but you have to feel bad when players find a glaring bug that your QA department should have caught. Make things easier on yourself. You can save yourselves the trouble of having the player base point them out.

I have been, ever since the new Fractured patch. I’m on SBI but the last Fractal run I did was in FA. It seemed to start on our second fractal, Cliffside, at the final boss. It went in and out. Finally in our third fractal, Aetherblade, it was unbearable at the Frizz fight, and I got kicked =[

Double-click inv to bank to open tabs only

Dizzle.5830

It would be a minor but useful improvement if, when accessing the bank, double-clicking on an item in your inventory went to the first empty space in the first open tab.

So, if my first bank tab was empty but collapsed, double-clicking items in my inventory would skip over the first tab and go straight to the second. Double-clicking is a lot easier than dragging.

Just went through a second time, without dying during the boss phase at all, and the achievement triggered. Seems like dying after killing the boss might bug the achievement.

I just completed World 1 Zone 2 in Tribulation mode, but didn’t get achievement credit for it. I died after killing the boss (twice, actually), but wait until I was ported to Zone 3. I went back to the Hub and tried going back in, but it didn’t let me go to Zone 3 (only 1 and 2).

Tips for the dungeon achievements

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Posted by: Dizzle.5830

Dizzle.5830

Unfriendly Skies (and final fight in general):

  • Potion of Outlaw Slaying helps, and any other consumables that help your build, or +endurance regen food
  • Immobilize helps (YMMV)
  • During my successful run, we decided not to burn down Horrik to ~10% before tackling Mai Trin, but this can be a time-saver. My group didn’t feel comfortable doing it so we focused on Mai Trin from the start.
  • Have someone call out when Horrik’s going to shoot electricity, and make sure everyone stacks around her. If someone’s running low on health, try to stay close but don’t attack at all. This is why heavies are easier unfortunately.
  • If you have immobilize, use it, but it’ll probably only work if she’s 6 stacks or under, and only when you’re SURE she’s going to be in the electric field (or already is in it)
  • Even when the electric field isn’t down, nobody should wander too far because she’ll teleport and Horrik will have too big of a range to choose from.
  • If she’s not in the electric field, draw her into it. I know being in the field sucks but it’s worth it to get her to lose a couple of stacks. If you stand on the other end of the field, but outside it, you can sometimes get her to stand in it while she’s attacking you.
  • If she’s in the electric field, and you have her aggro, try to hang in there and tough it out… use distortion/invulnerability/whatever you got to stay alive and keep her in there. If you’re careful you can dodge around inside the field.
  • If someone goes down, have one or two people try to keep focusing on Mai Trin while the others res. Stealth if obviously helpful. It SUCKS when everyone’s trying to res and Mai Trin + Horrik have open season on your whole party.
  • When Mai Trin is vulnerable, buff your party with Might if you can, then go to town. Don’t be stupid and linger in the cannon-fire, but don’t run away.

That’s pretty much it… I think my team had about two minutes left when we got Unfriendly Skies (if it says “Bonus Event”, you got it, bring the bundle over to the ship). One person went all the way down, and I think there were 2-3 other times where someone went partially down. There were also probably about 5-6 times where Horrik’s electricity cannon didn’t hit Mai at all. So there is room for error.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Tips for the dungeon achievements

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Posted by: Dizzle.5830

Dizzle.5830

Since the time limit is drawing near, I figured I’d put together some tips I’ve come across getting these. I’ve run the dungeon about 15 times, ~5 on my Mesmer, ~10 on my Guardian.

In regards to party composition, we definitely have more success with more heavies, and more Guardians. The party I ended up getting Unfriendly Skies on was 4 Guardians, 1 Warrior. I was worried about DPS but we were fine. Any group I went with that had 2 Guardians was moderately successful. I know traps and AoE are very useful during the Frizz fight.

Coordinating with your team before the boss fights (especially Mai Tai) is a must. Spend as much time as you want. Don’t be afraid to mail your teammates consumables – if everyone’s serious about getting the achievements it’ll be worth it

Faster Than Light (and Frizz in general):

  • Potions of Inquest Slaying helps
  • You’ll want stablity + vigor/endurance regen to make things easier
  • It helps to kill the adds before Frizz, just for less potential agitation from them
  • If your other teammates are good enough, one person going for FTL can stay out of the fight (don’t attack, don’t aggro) and focus on staying away from the lasers.
  • Stay together so the Golems don’t spread out and thus are less apt to hit lasers
  • Make sure you can see the Golem(s) around you and watch their telegraphing, so you can dodge or use stability accordingly.
  • Preceeding each phase, you can see thin, vertical, “metal” beams come up around the center column – these are where the lasers are about to project from. Position yourself accordingly right before each phase
  • During Phase 1, it’s easy to just run around without standing on any crates. It’s okay to get close to the center if you’re sticking together and dodging or using stability appropriately. This makes it easier to stick together as a team, and nobody has to worry about not being able to jump up in time
  • During each phase, it’s safer to lay down traps and quick AoE, and focus on avoiding pulls and being in the right position than trying to DPS. More DPS obviously makes the fight shorter, but if you’re going for the achievement you need to be able to steadily and safely progress through the fight.
  • Phase 2 is pretty easy as the lasers are slower. During this phase, when the first Golem is killed, another comes to replace it (keeping two Golems). This “third” Golem is actually the first Golem of Phase 3, so if you evenly DPS both golems, you will be able to kill them both at about the same time, and really only have one full-life Golem to the deal with in the last phase.
  • Phase 3, also stay together, but now you have to be able to jump to the crates. Keep an eye on the small lasers and get on a crate when they’re about halfway to the big laser – so you have enough time. If you have a few people up on a crate and Golems are near, use stability.

Personal Space (and final fight in general):

I had the most success with the “run as a tight group in laps” technique, so my tips are based on that

  • Before the fight, coordinate. Tell your group after each Mai Trin phase you’re going to group on a designated player, tighten up and start running (clockwise or counterclockwise, I found counterclockwise to be easier but that’s just me).
  • Make sure you can provide near permanent swiftness. Having vigor OR +endurance regen consumables helps
  • If someone’s down when the barrage starts, and you can’t rest them remotely or in 2 seconds, forget them, you can res them after.
  • Make sure you have your swiftness skills recharged when the barrage is going to start. Don’t waste them at the end of a Mai Trin phase.
  • Once you’re in a group, pop your swiftness (preferably two Guardians with Retreat on 48 sec cooldown = 44/48 seconds AoE swiftness). Guardian’s Symbol of swiftness is also useful
  • Stay tight and run in laps. If someone’s falling behind, they need to cut corners or dodge/lunge ahead
  • You can gently side-step or tweak your path to avoid red circles while not actually dodging
  • Save your dodges for when you really need them.

Mistwrought Keys not being consumed

I run through the jumping puzzle on my server’s BL almost daily, and today I noticed after running that I had 2 sets of keys. I keep one set in my inventory, open the vault/chest, then get the keys so I have a set ready for the next day. I should always have one set at the end of the day, but today I have two.
