Sorry if my reply seemed contradicting. I changed my play style because I wanted to try the crit hammer build. My change had nothing to do with what they nerfed. I played the zeal line for 2 weeks after the fact and received no cons from sticking with the setup I had (other than retaliation) and a slightly longer CD on SoW, going from 8 seconds to 15 seconds. The only thing I used in zeal line was blinding jeopardy and Fiery Wrath. Those two traits had nothing to do with the nerf.
Okay. This skill was nerfed in PvP. From what it seems, it was only nerfed in sPvP, not WvWvW.
Let’s try to examine why.
The effect of Save Yourselves is to take all of the conditions of your nearby allies and bring them to you. To compensate, you’re booned to high heaven. Always remember the the skill does both of these things.
In sPvP, this has been nerfed because it was too powerful in a 1v1 situation. I do not think that retaliation was the reason for this nerf. When a Guardian is alone, this skill is equivalent to an “I Win” button since there are no allies to cure the conditions of. Given that sPvP involves a lot of 1v1 fights, this nerf makes sense. In PvE and WvWvW, the Guardian is far more likely to have allies around him, and thus far more likely to actually acquire conditions due to this shout. Not changing the skill makes sense here because being booned to high heaven is truly being compensated by the conditions that were just acquired. Of course, a Guardian could still play alone in PvE, but it seems that ANet has chosen not to nerf a skill because of a way that a player can choose to play but rather because of a balancing issue.
In conclusion, I can see how this was unbalanced, and I’m glad that skill separation between PvE and PvP was reintroduced to address it.
Thank you for understanding logic.
All Knight armor with Ruby orbs as modifier and knight jewelry. I have both berserker GS and hammer. I have good damage and good survivability.
Another solution is to realize that nothing is wrong with what they did. Forcing ppl to branch off to a weapon swap was probably their intention. You talk about auto attack as if what you were doing before didn’t have it’s own mindless pattern once you found a rotation. 3,4,f1,2 repeat. With the SoW being up on an 8 second cool down from the press of the button, meant that we could cleanse conditions with almost a 100% up time of SoW. I was 20 points into zeal line. Since nerf I have stripped Zeal line and dumped it all into radiance, touchiness and virtues, and I might add, I like the build a lot better.
You’re welcome.
I love how in every MMO people generally complain about how OP a dagger class is. In this case, the Guardian was a bit OPed. If your trait line was setup correctly, you had SoW and WW up every 8 seconds. With berserker gear on and jewels you would be doing AOE damage of about 8K per tick every 8 seconds. I am a guardian, and I did love the constant output of DPS, but lets be serious….we were waaaaay OPed. Also for ppl complaining about how they auto attack #1 until their CD’s are done. I believe people should try conditioning yourself to swap wpns during combat. With knight gear and knight jewelry I have 2800 attack, 3100 toughness and over 50% Crit chance. I switch between Hammer and Great sword. I have constant DPS and the ability to survive longer. It really amazes me how mindless some people can be when they get stuck into a routine and then that routine changes because changes were made to the process in which they went about things.
I feel like this build is also a nice build. It allows you to deal DPS and also supply support to team.
I also like this build as well.
I wear Night gear with Orbs, as I feel the orbs give me the better power boost than the runes, plus the runes hat I would typically go for have now jumped up to almost 30 gold for all 6. Both wpns are berserker stats. I Really like the second option a lot. If gives me the toughness I need plus the DPS and ability to properly support my party.
I’m currently using this build http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mVcz9VmGvaomGvao0axx0MVoqosR. I find this one to be a good “Heal Tank” build.
The important trait here is altruistic healing which heals you for every boon you have on an ally and this applies to each stack.
I tested this out yesterday against champions in Orr and I effectively didn’t even have to use my main heal since my boons were stacking and healing me back up to full health and this was while using my Berserker trinkets and not my Paladin ones.
The trick with this build is the might stack you give allies from critical hits and only using the shouts and virtues when you are at half health or lower. At this point you just watch your health climb back up to full.
I would think you want to use signet of mercy to improve healing and healing breeze to heal allies.

They are wearing draconic armor. I am not sure about shoulders though.
I see no decrease in damage. If there is, then it’s minimal. Instead of using Writ of Persistence, just use Two-Handed Mastery. This will knock 5 seconds off your CD.
Yeah but this is a game in which you earn/buy gold/gems to buy things, and well if a patch is going to basically break an entire build on a trait line then they should let people know before hand so they don’t waste gold/money.
I mean not to be a jerk, but if you really think it’s their responsibility to warn you about changes they make, you are playing the wrong kind of game. For anyone to think that any Publisher would hold your hand through every change they make, you are sadly mistaken.
I guess maybe because I don’t put 25 or 30 into Zeal I am not in this situation. Regardless, my reply was mainly due to the laughable thought that anet might refund you gold for a wpn you bought.
How does the Zeal line deal with Symbols?
I find weapon swapping during combat pretty useful. It helps to fill the gaps waiting for CDs.
Omg man…Nothing is broke. Other than the skill placement being changed..which sucks..but can be relearned within a couple of weeks. Personally I think them nerfing SoW was needed. It was OPed. If you think about it, witht he correct traits, SoW had an 8 second cooldown while WW had an 8 second cool down. Retal was up for 6 seconds as well. Pretty much retal was up almost 100% of the time. Stop complaining and move on.
I play a guardian for now as a DPS class and I have no issues with it. I am not trying to sound conceited, but I feel I dominate a lot using my class. Not only 1v1, but also pvping multiple ppl at once.
Can I suggest something? I notice you use Purity and you also use signet of resolve. Sig of Resolve passive removes a condition every 10 seconds. Maybe fill that trait in with something different?
How does he have a bad attitude?
Lol I love how this guy is asking for advice, so instead of most of you just giving him advice, you’re flaming him.
It all depends on what build you want to go with. Are you in this for PvE or PvP? Do you want to be more support or burst damage? I prefer Burst DPS. I go with Berserker armor with 3 items including 1 weapon that uses power/vitality/crit. Everything else is power/precision/crit. My jewelry is also berserker. I use a combination of a Great Sword and Sword/Shield. My traits are 20/25/0/20/5.
20/25/0/20/5 is the build I go with. I use precision/vitality/crit %/power build. Only two 3 pieces have vitality (GS/gloves/shoulders). I have no issues at all PvE with this build.
I uses Draconic Berserker’s with 2 pieces Valikrie. My jewels and amulets are beserkers. I am specced for full DPS using a GS and Sword/Shield.
The build I use is very useful in both PVE and WvW. Lets be honest, I believe we are all here to PvP..I am. I go 20/25/0/20/5. I use a combo of GS and shield/sword. When engaging a group of players I start off with Save yourselves (gives multiple boons), Leap of faith which creates an AOE blind that causes vulnerability. I then activate virtue of justice which will allow my next hit to be fire. I then activate symbol of wrath which will aoe fire. My trait is setup to do 10% more damage with GS and 10% more damage to burning foes. I then do WW which does HEAVY aoe damage. With my stats built mainly on power/crit/precision if I am not focused I can literally take out a group of at least 15 people. Also if you put a sigil of intelligence on your one hander and sigil of battle on your shield, you can rotate to sword/shield and have 3 stacks of might with a next hit 100% crit. Once you switch to sword and shield you activate flashing blade with will create venerability and then Zealots defense. With your 100% crit and stack of might on, your Zeolots defense hits crazy hard for 7 hits.
traits are 20/25/0/20/5
I use a combo of GS and Shield/sword. The way I have my traits setup is for pure DPS. I many times will go in the middle of 15 ppl and kill almost all of them. When I fight one on one I will open with GS then use my shield/one handed. I have not once had any issues with this build. After messing with multiple traits, and researching online what other ppls ideas were, I must say, I am very pleased with my build.
gotta love delvling
