What are player intended to be doing?

There is no set goal. Do whatever you find fun. Enjoying exploration? Go do that. Enjoy dungeons? Do them for the thrill of it, or whatever satisfies you. Run out of things to do? Quit the game for now and return when they add more content. All of these are acceptable answers. You aren’t paying monthly, so there is no reason to stick to the game at all times.

The joy of this game is that there is nothing that you are expected to do. Anet is not telling you that you have to do this or that. The game is open for you to do whatever you choose to do.

Other games you are expected to grind to max level then grind dailes and dungeons and raids to get the next tier of gear after the next. That is the intention of them. They want you to grind dungeon after dungeon then raid after raid to keep gearing up over and over and then do it all over again when the next expansion comes out. It’s a clear path that many don’t enjoy, but it’s the only path to take.

In GW2, you aren’t drilled into that treadmill. The game is designed for you to do whatever you choose to do. Take your time with it, go explore, level a craft, do some PvP, run some dungeons. There is no forced path that you have to do in order to play the game. Everything is open for you to do whatever it is that you enjoy doing.

That is the intention of GW2. Just play the game however you want.

If you want to be given goals then open the achievement tab and see what you have yet to achieve.

But realistically, you should be doing what you enjoy doing. Be that WvW, sPvP, dungeons, socialising, RPing, or any of the many different reasons people play may want to play for.

I am sorry for the misconception! I guess I am not good with words, because I am not complaining about needing a “treadmill”. The reason I like guild wars is because it isn’t like other MMOs. I can spend days doing nothing but still having fun with guildies.

Plus I can see many things to strive towards in GW2, like Legendary weapons, achievements and cultural armor. I know I will be busy with the game for quite sometime. On top of those things, I want to level up 3 more characters. With new stuff coming tomorrow and that so called November release. I expect to be playing this game too long hehe.

The thing I am primarily asking is if farming Orr(boring) is the best way to get karma and gold, then why are players penalized? I take it that spending extended periods of time in Orr is not what we are intended to do because we are punished for doing so? Or is that because bots are unfortunately affecting the play of normal players? Then how are players to go about getting the massive amounts of money? I personally don’t spend too much time in Orr because when I can play I want to have fun and all I hear about is the “DR code”. And dungeons don’t really pay off for the time but are fun, and I think a dev said they will be making dungeons more worth it in the future.

So as the title states I am really confused about what players are intended to be doing.
[sorry if this has been responded to or something similar I don’t really read every post on the forums but would like to think I read quite a few.]

After reaching level 80, maxing out armor, maxing crafting, world completion and still enjoying sPvP, WvW and dungeons.

I think I heard that dungeons may become economically something worth doing in the future. But I’m not one to talk about economic efficiency after wasting 80g in the mystic forge.

Also killing the world bosses has become fun for me, as it is socially fun and most of what I do in game now is to have fun with guildies.

I guess a legendary would be something really cool to go for but apparently we are not intended to be farming Orr because the “diminishing returns”? And another problem with a legendary is the fact that it is soulbound, which penalizes people who enjoy playing more than one character. In my opinion you should encourage people to play more than one character. Yeah with a legendary you would have to switch it to your other character and accept the stats for both but I think if i make the dagger on my thief, when I start to play my elementalist I should be able to still enjoy the legendary skin instead of just feeling all the work put into the weapon is a waste whilst playing another character. And yes I can accept that making a dagger wouldn’t be any use for classes that can’t use a dagger. Also considering the amount of work it would take, I am not even close but I like that it is something really difficult to get. Sorry this is beyond the point I was going for in the thread. I could go on forever about little things like game mechanics, like how turrets and such should be actually fun and smooth, and lore questions but I will try to stay on topic and ask a question someone may be able to answer.

If going for a legendary is the big thing to work for at the current state of the game, which I like, how are we to go about getting it if we are punished for farming Orr? If we are punished for farming we must be doing something wrong?

I still have 3 characters to level and gear up, plus, I am sure we have lots to look forward to in the future starting with the Mad King and a so called ”massive November release”

Sorry for how unstructured and ADD like this post if but I hope you understand what I mean.

I am not sure whether or not I should be expecting a response from the devs but I sure would like to. I like the game and really enjoy it, my first game I can really see myself playing for a long time. I wouldn’t post about my questions and concerns if I didn’t want to keep playing.

This could be out there but I have missed it if so.

Vision; a site or whatever that updated when events are starting and logging the progress event chains. I’m thinking kinda like a twitter or something. It would have to be a community effort and be done individually done for each server.

“Why don’t you do this Reason?” Because I am lazy and suck. Duh!

sPvP Locker gear missing in PvE? Bummer

It seems that some of the sets that are in the sPvP locker are not included in PvE. The two sets I know are Comando’s and Conquest medium armor. Some of the Comando stuff you can get in personal story but the piece I really want, the helmet, is no where to be found. Also there is another Comando’s helm mixed in with the Stalwart’s set.The Conquest armor is the stuff the lionguard that wear medium armor wear the conquest helm. I am not sure if this is the case for some other sets. I guess this could be a sPvP perk but it is really disappointing!

Arena Net, PLEASE introduce the rest of the armor into PvE!

Weapon Sigil Suggestion.

for pvp i like the speed(gives swiftness on kill) for my shortbow. I also use ither a perc or CD stacking one on one dagger with a battle(swap for might). the stacking ones arnt really good in pvp so i would switch that out for something.

Pistols are better than rifle imo. but remember that you don’t get your weapon stats whilst using a kit(at this time hopefully they change this). And runes of the afflicted may not be great as you can’t really(in my experience) many bleeds out as an engi. Condition damage is good tho just more spreed between a few conditions.

If you want to do damage use pistol 2(poison shot or what ever). I use shield for more surviability but you can use dual and get a burn(4) in if you are close. Then I would switch to grenade kit(bleed(2) + poison(5) with some great cc in chill(4) and blind(3)) and using (1) and the F-key skill are awesome for some more power damage. The bomb kit F-key skill is great but you have to time it and get in close( combo it with the poison grenade for more poison).

Spec into explosives for some nice traits(cant think of them all off the top) like the one where explosions cause vulnerability.

As far as gear I would avoid precision/power/condition because it is weak defence wise and I wouldn’t suggest being like the other 80% of players trying to be the best dps without considering toughness and vitality. I would recommend getting some lol. I am not totally familiar with all the insignias for gear. I would get power/perc/toughness(misht not be an option or only god armor) with some jewelry with CD(what i plan on doing). Power is the way I think to go as far as damage, But you seem set on going condition damage I would still say to get some tough or vit. Now that i think of it it wouldn’t be a bad idea to use mixed armor.

oh and As far as I know the only difference between vit and tough is that vit is better defense against CD and toughness will help against power damage. so i would say using toughness is better in pve + u can use the utility skill removes conditions.

Ive also heard some people having good luck with flamethrower and the trait that helps it.

Have fun.

Any possibility of grenade auto attack?

in Engineer

Doctor Reason.4065

I love grenades as an engi, only kit I actually feel good using. I wouldn’t mind an auto attack but it would be kinda funny, I use an extra button on my mouse to use my skills so I am fine doing what I am.

@ Rhyse.8176
I do use the current fast cast aoe thing and love it. But would not like it if it was changed like this unless there was a UI indicator like a semi translucent circle on the screen or something and still I would like the option to have it like it is now.

@ Vigilence.4902
That would be insane. The grenade kit, as much as I love it, is almost to simple. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the underwater kit nerfed, It is the best thing I have seen for underwater combat, I remember going to frostgorge sound and killing lv 70-80 stuff underwater as a lv 50 without being touched.

Rampagers vs Carrion Gear for Condition Builds?

Condition damage is fun and strong but there are so many limitations. Everyone is trying to be the best dps and CD is good but typical. I would say go with Carrion(I think its the one with vit). With that extra vitality you are stronger against conditions on your self whilst toughness will help your protection from taking power based damage(big hits).

The only tip I can really tell you is don’t just try and be a major damage doer consider your survivability as a key factor.

Do they even stack? I still have no clue how sigils work.

I know weapon swap(like battle) and stat stacking(like bloodlust). I’m not sure about agony ones but i wouldn’t think so.

I would personally use all different sigils because I would think it would be better all around.
