There is no set goal. Do whatever you find fun. Enjoying exploration? Go do that. Enjoy dungeons? Do them for the thrill of it, or whatever satisfies you. Run out of things to do? Quit the game for now and return when they add more content. All of these are acceptable answers. You aren’t paying monthly, so there is no reason to stick to the game at all times.
The joy of this game is that there is nothing that you are expected to do. Anet is not telling you that you have to do this or that. The game is open for you to do whatever you choose to do.
Other games you are expected to grind to max level then grind dailes and dungeons and raids to get the next tier of gear after the next. That is the intention of them. They want you to grind dungeon after dungeon then raid after raid to keep gearing up over and over and then do it all over again when the next expansion comes out. It’s a clear path that many don’t enjoy, but it’s the only path to take.
In GW2, you aren’t drilled into that treadmill. The game is designed for you to do whatever you choose to do. Take your time with it, go explore, level a craft, do some PvP, run some dungeons. There is no forced path that you have to do in order to play the game. Everything is open for you to do whatever it is that you enjoy doing.
That is the intention of GW2. Just play the game however you want.
If you want to be given goals then open the achievement tab and see what you have yet to achieve.
But realistically, you should be doing what you enjoy doing. Be that WvW, sPvP, dungeons, socialising, RPing, or any of the many different reasons people play may want to play for.
I am sorry for the misconception! I guess I am not good with words, because I am not complaining about needing a “treadmill”. The reason I like guild wars is because it isn’t like other MMOs. I can spend days doing nothing but still having fun with guildies.
Plus I can see many things to strive towards in GW2, like Legendary weapons, achievements and cultural armor. I know I will be busy with the game for quite sometime. On top of those things, I want to level up 3 more characters. With new stuff coming tomorrow and that so called November release. I expect to be playing this game too long hehe.
The thing I am primarily asking is if farming Orr(boring) is the best way to get karma and gold, then why are players penalized? I take it that spending extended periods of time in Orr is not what we are intended to do because we are punished for doing so? Or is that because bots are unfortunately affecting the play of normal players? Then how are players to go about getting the massive amounts of money? I personally don’t spend too much time in Orr because when I can play I want to have fun and all I hear about is the “DR code”. And dungeons don’t really pay off for the time but are fun, and I think a dev said they will be making dungeons more worth it in the future.
