Definately agree with a withdraw limit. Tired of keeping my banks closed out of fear of a thief coming in and robbing my guild blind.

Agreed.

Officer chat would be another welcome addition, though it is not of paramount importance, as well as being able to set who can invite new members and who can administer lower ranks separately.

Open world Duels [Merged]

Anyone who has read the upcoming changes and features page on the wiki would know dueling was and may still be, a planned feature.

If they do add it, a simple fix for people who don’t want to be spammed with duel requests would be them also adding an interface option to have those requests automatically blocked. That way, people who hate dueling won’t have to see requests for it popping up.

I on the other hand, would very much like to be able to do 1v1 dueling, particularly because I am sick and tired of joining sPvP maps only to get yelled at for interrupting a duel and would prefer it if they took place outside of actual matches, though there are other issues ANet should focus on fixing beforehand.

Thanks for the post Drakonhammer, Nice to see someone with so many of their own ideas to add.
I agree with the loot distibution on whites etc being kind of worthless but I think This is just to encourage the use of salvage kits and an incentive to buy more inventory space.
However I can’t agree with the greens because I always stockpile these and at the end of the day head to the mystic forge to try my luck and making them into golds.

The usefullness of crafting is a pretty big concern, But I think that’s more due to the economy and I’ve stated before I terrible at econimics so I can’t really comment on how to best fix this, sorry! Though I do think the prevention of ‘flipping’ items does help with the overall economy as it helps keep the gulf between rich and poor from getting too extreme.
I love you account wide mini idea, I remember how much more fun minis where in WoW when they introduced that feature.
Dyeing weapons? Where do I sign up!

The reason I feel there are too many greens and blues is because if there were less, the ones made from crafting would be genuinely useful. As it stands right now, most of the low level things made in weapon/armour making disciplines are not used or only for a very brief time – with exception of a few that people keep for their appearance. Another solution would be giving crafted items a bonus, like food has, to make them useful while levelling, or otherwise increasing the craft XP earned from each item so you can get to suitable ones faster.

Salvaging is not that appealing to players as it stands, I get the impression, I know quite a large number of people who play Guild Wars 2 and never salvage because often it is more profitable to sell the unsalvaged items on the TP. Part of the problem is many do not want to spend the time and effort levelling a crafting profession, as they tend to be quite tedious to level and offer little reward for the time, effort and money, you put in. I myself will only ever salvage if the components I get out of it are likely to possess a higher TP value than the item I am salvaging, which seems to be rarely these days.

A friend of mine suggested removing the character experience gains from crafting and having you only get craft XP, that way final products would be worth more than the materials used to make them – as it stands right now, in many cases, people simply want the reagents so they can gain character levels through crafting, instead of actually wanting the gear they get as a result of it. This also makes cooking and jeweling, which tend to be more useful at lower levels, suffer the same problem where even good finished products are worth far less than the materials used to create them.

And I still do not think the prevention of ‘flipping’ is a good thing, it allowed even people with very little money to make a lot of they knew what they were doing and, while it does reduce the gulf between rich and poor, it makes it very difficult for new players and casual to make money. Making money on the GW2 TP involves spending ages finding the best items to flip and there are already large disparities in wealth as it stands currently, plus trying to make money off it alone is very difficult and most players will only use it to sell the rarer items they get from dungeons etc.

While a more AH-like system could potentially worsen the disparity in wealth, it would certainly help pull a lot more trade-focused people back into the game and would allow for a more flexible market – plus as the trading post spans all servers, it would make it difficult for just one or two people to make money out of flipping items. At the very least we need face to face trading.

And, while this is an entirely different game, I could not help but feel like a crafting disciplines able to make things kinda like alchemy, engineering or inscription (from WoW), would be a nice addition to the game. At the very least the current crafting professions need more utility and fun items, particularly in the case of amour-crafting and weapon-crafting disciplines.

On an unrelated note, this game really needs the beginning zone/missions to behave like more of a tutorial. I’ve seen many people complain it took them ages to learn certain things which are key aspects of the game and while I myself had no problems learning the basics, I only learnt certain things like how to split up stacks of items several months down the road. That is pretty late for something as simple as that and I could not help but feel it would have been nice if they game told me how to do it, rather than me having to figure it out. I like having to figure out strategies and such for myself, it’s part of the fun, but I do not like when it comes to convenience I like to know the basics early on. iirc, the on-screen tips were sufficient in most regards, but left out a few important details that would seriously help newer players.

Could not agree more, as much as I enjoy Guild Wars 2, they urgently need to sort out these problems. From memory, since I watched your video yesterday, I agreed with all of the points made. I do have some things to add though, in case they have not been brought up yet:

On the topic of loot, I think as it stands players get far too much from trash mobs and not enough from bosses. You covered the point about loot scaling to difficulty and appropriate rewards for bosses in the video, so I won’t bring it up again, but trash mobs…

They drop too much gear, all the lower tiers of gear (white/blue/green) seem to blend together in memory as they are all equally common and thus equally worthless.

Why not make blue and green, though not white, drop less frequently? They don’t have to be super rare, but at least rarer, that way there would be an actual sense of reward when you do get them and it would make gear made via crafting actually useful while levelling.

Crafting also needs to provide more useful and fun items in the first place, as right now only cooking and jeweling seem to provide things people actively use at lower levels. Being able to randomly discover extremely rare but useful recipes now and again would also help to make it more interesting, rather than only ever getting one specific recipe from a specific combination of ingredients.

All this might help to stop the other problem, where people sell gear for prices one copper above vendor on the TP, though to fix that properly ANet would, at the same time, have to go and buy out all the gear currently listed at those kinds of prices.

On the topic of the TP, personally I would prefer a more auction house-esque one – one that resembles that of World of Warcraft – as while you can still make some money flipping items on this one, it is nowhere as enjoyable to do so. While I personally prefer Guild Wars 2 by a mile, in spite of the issues and having played both games, I know quite a few people where the main reason for them being uninterested in this game is the fact they cannot flip items on the GW2 TP the way they could with WoW’s AH.

Another improvement would be an account-wide mini interface, where players can summon any mini they own from anywhere in the world. That would not only make them less inconvenient, but also more desirable.

A minor change, which is not that important in the the grand scheme of things, but one I feel many people would like to see, would be the ability to dye weapons – just like in the original Guild Wars.

The Norn Elite Skills... Seriously?

in Norn

Posted by: Drakonhammer.2148

Drakonhammer.2148

Hounds of Balthazar is an amazing Elite.

You often see Human players use it rather than their class Elites!

I’ve yet to see a single Norn player use any of the Become The… in either WvW, sPvP or PvE.

Racials cannot be used at all in sPvP, so that’s probably why you haven’t see anyone using them :P

Also I think racials should either have their costs reduced or be given to you automatically when you unlock a skills tier, a lot of them go unused as is, which seems like a bit of waste.

That said, wolf and snow leopard form both seem useful in certain circumstances, but why anyone would swap out an Elite simply to run away rather than providing any kind of group assistance is beyond me… Unless, I suppose, you swap it out when everyone else is dead and you haven’t used your Elite.

Still, I prefer to have something that will either slow the enemy’s advance in some shape or form.

You did not understand the concept I explained.

Currently when a player hits DR he gets only trash items worth nothing, and therefore is forced to stop looting or he would get no gain.
With the new system they’d have two options when triggering DR:
1) move to another zone without DR.
2) continue looting normally and still get mats they can use (ores, lodestones etc), so all those players who like to farm for crafting are now allowed to do so.
Currently, only option 1 is available.
It’s pretty safe to say that any player would choose to have another option on top of what’s currently available over not having any choice but move away.

I thought when DR triggers currently the player just gets less loot, rather than trash items?

Guild Wars 2’s combat system is already a massive leap ahead of other MMOs I have played, but this is still a very well thought-out suggestion and would help to make it even better – you have my support.

Also to a certain extent ranged projectiles do need to ‘lock on’ as otherwise they would probably never hit, unless ArenaNet can code in predictive trajectories for moving targets which would be awesome, but they certainly need to be made more visible so players can actually dodge them let alone see them coming.

Dealing with Inactive Accounts

in Suggestions

Posted by: Drakonhammer.2148

Drakonhammer.2148

The Problem:
I’ve noticed a large number of complaints in regards to the fact server population is based upon the number of accounts tied to the server in question, not the actual number of players currently on the server at any given time.

While this makes sense for Guild Wars 2 in that your whole account is bound to one particular server, unlike certain other MMOs where you can have characters on multiple servers, it can lead to issues in that while a server may come up as having ‘Very High’ or ‘Full’ population, there is a chance it will actually have very few active players on it.

The Solution:
The idea is simple, any accounts that have not been played on in a while (one or two months for example) would be automatically transferred to an inactivity server. This server would not come up in the worlds list and would not be available for playing on, it would merely house inactive accounts.

When the owners of said inactive accounts return to Guild Wars 2, they would be forced to select a home server to play on, whereupon they are once again able to play on their existing characters.

This system would have several merits in my opinion, namely:
1. It would prevent servers from being clogged up by inactive accounts and thus allow active players to see more accurate server populations.
2. Players who are inactive for a while will still be able to pick up Guild Wars 2 and play it again whenever they like, as their characters/progress would not be lost.
3. The time frame for an account to be classified as inactive would be quite long, thus people would not be able to abuse the system to get constant free server transfers.

Thank you to all who spared the time to read through my suggestion, any feedback and/or support would be much appreciated.

Not to mention how annoying it would be for regular players hitting diminishing returns and then not being able to sell rarer loot drops they do not want at all.

I can see this leading to players who either avoid crafting or are running out of inventory space throwing away a large number of loot drops, particularly since they are not only unsellable but also unsalvageable, making them utterly useless.

No offence meant, but in my opinion this seems like a rather heavy-handed approach to dealing with botting.

For PvE, you can guest on any server in the same region after the 28th update so WvW should be more of your concern for what server you want to be in. DB has good Oceanic presence and I’d imagine they have good communication as well. From the point of view of an opponent, they seem pretty good.

Alright, thank you for the feedback

I am aware of guesting, but the reason I ask about PvE on Dragonbrand in particular is that I would prefer to stick to one server once I find a decent guild on it and as such I would prefer an active PvE environment to an empty one.

Move from Isle of Janthir to Dragonbrand Y/N?

in WvW

Posted by: Drakonhammer.2148

Drakonhammer.2148

Just making this thread to get some information about Dragonbrand, a server which several friends and I are seriously considering transferring to. We have gotten tired of how empty Isle of Janthir is now, both in PvE and WvWvW, so we were thinking it was time to move on to a more active server.

As such I have a couple of questions I would like to ask people who either were on Dragonbrand recently or are currently playing on it, in regards to general server trends, namely:
*Is the server populated in all PvE zones, not just one or two, including Orr?
*Do players socialize much in PvE using map and/or local chat?
*Is there good communication in WvWvW between players/guilds?
*Is the server active during Oceanic peak hours?
*Is there a wide variety of guilds, namely PvX ones, to choose from on the server?

Also, if anyone has transferred to Dragonbrand from Isle of Janthir, it would be especially much appreciated if you could give some feedback on the change and whether or not it was a good idea.

Thank you in advance.

General Improvements (particularly in regards to guilds and trading/mail)

in Suggestions

Posted by: Drakonhammer.2148

Drakonhammer.2148

A couple of points – Guild leaders can already decide which ranks can invite members, along with who can deposit/withdraw from the guild bank.

As for forcing all characters to represent the same guild – doesn’t that rather defeat the point of multiple guilds? You say you are in favour of it and then say something which appears to contradict that. I’m not sure I follow your point, could you explain it a little more clearly?

Personally I don’t see a problem with the way multiguilding works now, though a “last online/representing” timestamp would be helpful to distinguish between people who are inactive and people who simply log in at different times to you.

I believe ANet mentioned in the past that they had staff looking into dueling, and as a feature that would likely be added post-release. NPC chat can also be turned off by clicking the options icon in the corner of the chat window. It’s one of the toggle options there.

In response:

To your first point, that is true – but there is a difference between giving the privilege to invite members and full control over lower ranks. Currently there is no separation, anyone who is able to invite new members can also control anyone of a lower rank than they are.

As for deciding who can deposit and withdraw, that is true yes – but, you cannot edit the exact withdrawal amounts. This means you either reserve withdrawing items to certain ranks which may lead to unfair distribution based upon personal bias or you give it to all ranks, but have to hope no one ninjas all the guild’s items/gold. Frankly the latter is not a risk I would like to take as a guild leader, but the former is not a proper solution either.

The ability to still join multiple guilds is so that they can switch at ease when they move on, as they can simply move all their characters to the new guild. Nowhere do I recall saying I was in favour of multiple guild representation. I’ve now edited that part to make it more clear.

Personally I feel having multiple guilds detracts from the whole point of having a dedicated guild – rather than members being dedicated to one guild and trying to build up community with their fellow guildmates, for the most part they drift between several and never truly contribute to any one in particular. While there are exceptions to this rule, in my opinion there are simply not enough exceptions for it to be worth having multiple guilds per player.

As for NPC chat, what you’re saying completely misses the point – I merely want a way for it to be easy to distinguish when a player whispers you or posts a message in general chat, while still being able to read what NPCs have to say. Merely turning off NPC dialogue is not a good solution to this problem and I’m sure anyone who has gone through the cutscenes in the personal story can agree that a simple way to distinguish between NPC/player messaging (preferably by colour) would be useful.

Thank you for the information in regards to dueling however, as I was unaware they were looking into it. Nevertheless I will leave that suggestion there as it has not yet been confirmed/implemented.

General Improvements (particularly in regards to guilds and trading/mail)

in Suggestions

Posted by: Drakonhammer.2148

Drakonhammer.2148

Here are some suggestions for Guild Wars 2 based upon the concerns of myself and others. While they may not be incorporated into the game, I believe they should at least be taken into consideration.

Duelling: Self-explanatory, allows players to challenge each other to a duel in the PvE world. Good for guild tournaments and letting players test out their skills against their friends and/or strangers.
Face-To-Face Trading: Just like in Guild Wars 1. Allows players to trade with specific people, outside of the auction house. This is good for people wanting to trade with their friends or guild-mates.
Guilds Changes: Change the way representation works so that a player has to represent the same guild on all characters – that way guilds can keep track of who is actually actively taking part in the guild and who is not in a more efficient manner. This would help promote players sticking with a particular guild and allow guilds to more easily become tight-knit, active communities.
-Allow the guild leader to set the precise withdrawal amounts for all ranks from the guild stash/vault. This would reduce the amount of stealing and reward faithful members at the same time.
-Allow the guild leader to set which ranks can invite members to the guild – this would be beneficial as it would allow the guild leaders to manage membership amounts and prevent re-inviting of members who were kicked for misbehaving.
-Ability to change rank colour/chat colour in guild chat – allows guild members to distinguish between who is an officer and who is not more easily. Makes it easier to see if any officers are online if the assistance of one is required.
-Create a private officer chat feature for guilds. The guild leader would be able to select which ranks can view/talk in this chat.
-Add in the ability to write a guild description. This would work like the MOTD, except it would be separate and only viewable via the guild roster. That way the guild leader can put links to the guild website and voice chat server information there, while having the MOTD available for more immediate information – such as information about upcoming guild events and such.
Inspection: Allow players to inspect other players’ weapons/armour. Simply a useful feature that allows people to find out the name of items they like the look of and to compare their gear with another players’.
Strong Current Pop-Up: Remove this pop-up as it breaks immersion, but leave the currents that push players back to shore in. They will realize soon enough that they cannot swim out further and that way a potential immersion breaker will no longer irritate players simply exploring underwater.
Mail Changes: Cash-On-Delivery – Basically, players can set a C.O.D. amount for their mail if sending items – the receiver then has to pay the C.O.D. amount if they want to receive the items included in the mail. If not, they simply hit the ‘return’ button and the mail is returned to the sender.
-Separate folder for NPC mail – would be convenient and allow for easy browsing.
NPC chat changes – needs to appear as a different colour and be able to be turned on/off. Currently there is no way to, at a glance, distinguish between NPC dialogue and player dialogue.
Thief Downed-Stealth Skill — immensely useful in SPvP, however rather lacking in PvE is the monsters simply stand over you and wait for it to wear off. As such, in PvE it achieves absolutely nothing. Not sure how exactly it should be changed, but perhaps having the mobs move away further (properly, not what they do currently – which involves walking away painfully slowly and then just turning around immediately once it wears off) or having it apply a blind to prevent them from instantly finishing you off afterwards would help.

Thank you to anyone who has read through this and provided feedback on my suggestions, I hope they are at least worth considering.
