Of course, all of this advice depends on how accurate your account of the story is (including the direct quotes). I hate to be devil’s advocate, but there have been similar threads made by others where the tale has been skewed (an “every coin has two sides” deal).

Psh. Everybody knows that a coin has three outcomes. No matter how unlikely the outcome of a coin landing on its edge. It makes for a great concept in stories. Legacy of Kain fans! Represent!

I’m most likely going to try what you’ve recommended. Still, I’m at the mercy of a person who’s chosen to see no evil, hear no evil.

Gah, create your own guild, I’d say..
If they are ‘true’ friends (whether that’s even remotely possible in a MMO game) they’ll leave that guild that kicked you and join you..

More like they’d join my guild, but rarely rep, and stay in the other guild, rep it more. I can’t deny it. The guild is extremely useful. Leaders of several warbands are already members in it. I’ve pretty much got an undesirable sign above my head.

From what I understand TC has a huge problem with these “lewd” RPers, they ruin the reputation of the server and the RP community in general. The leader may have overreacted but it’s understandable that no RP guild would want to have these types of RP players in their guild.

Also, are you sure that you got kicked for that reason?

Yeah. Swearing and stuff is allowed since adults are in the guild. But anything that isn’t PG-13 isn’t allowed in guild chat. We’re told to unrep during whatever. By “postulating the removal of a guild member’s armor” I broke the conduct and was promptly BTFO.

I’ll get to the questions after I provide context. I’m not going to name any names. I’m kind of stuck and I’m seeking advice on what to do.

I’ve been back a bit under 48 hours. I played from beta until the middle of F&F. I’m from Tarnished Coast. TC has a big RP community. I’m in no guilds. I remember jack about my class, and decide to make a new character. My friends are cool with it. I soon join a guild, that’s described themselves as “a social network for RPers”. I think it’s a great concept. A bunch of guilds connect to this one; due to its usefulness. And lo! It turns out my friends are in this guild! One vouches for me and I’m in.

Fast forward 20 hours and we’re just chatting about weapons. I joke about tickling my best friend, as torture, until they buy me one. He says “Good luck getting through my armor.” His guy is small, so I say “You’re tiny. Thus your armor is smaller. It’d be easier to get off.” The guild leader takes this as the most lewd/sexual thing ever and says “So much for going 24 hours without breaking the code of conduct.” and I get kicked from the guild.

I can’t whisper this leader either. I’ve been blocked. I let my friend know and a bunch of the guildies agree this isn’t like the leader, that this went out of proportions. My friend is stuck playing telephone between us, and this GL is determined not to talk with me. I even tried buttering them up and buying them a kite from the gem store. Nada. Blocked folks can’t send gifts.

So now I’m guildless, my friends aren’t. I’m still blocked by the guild leader… and because of this guilds influence; I may be blacklisted from any of their affiliates. Which are most in the area. I’m demoralized and I’m considering leaving the game, and its community, again. What do I do? Will this person get better, unblock me eventually, and talk? Can I get back in? Do I just play with my friends when they’re in public zones and put up with the leader’s presence, even though he’ll never see my chat, and make it awkward for all of us?

I am stuck playing the waiting game right now. What would you guys do? How is this possible?

Why are they taking so long to release this? They’d make a ton of money; off of Charr roleplayers alone. Then factor in the rest, and people that don’t roleplay… That’s a lot of money!

I just don’t understand why it isn’t out yet. I mean, it’s in the database, isn’t it? Why does Arenanet not want our cash?

Death Dynamic Events

Imagine if you will, that when you/another player dies, you start a special kind of dynamic event. You’re captured by spiders and taken to a nearby cave, where you and other players can be rescued. They get points towards the dynamic event, for freeing you, and if you chose to stay instead of reviving at a waypoint, you get rewarded credit too. Maybe even an achievement/title(“Rescue Me”/Title: Damsel In Distress).

Or you’re killed in an undead heavy area, and you’re brought back as a risen! The possibilities are there. If a player is put in the event, but doesn’t want to wait through it, they can just respawn at a waypoint of their choice. But if they stay for the whole thing… they get rewarded!

I Think I Know Why

Drosser.2317

I think I finally know why; Arenanet keeps telling us that our class is fine, and that we need to learn how to use Death Shroud! There is a bug in the game that doesn’t let players see the #5 skill. It works fine and is visible for Arenanet when they’re using their developer console to test the class, but it’s invisible and effectively locked for the actual players..

Now I’m not sure about underwater, but on dry land; they’ve got this:

Vanish. 1/2 sec activation time 5 minute cooldown. Caster vanishes into stealth (6 seconds) and gains a charge (up to 3) based on how many conditions were on them. This also consumes the conditions.

It’s a two-skill chain. The next one is Banish.

Banish. Teleport to target foe and remove stealth. Deal a combo that varies based on charges.

1: Instantly defeat target foe.
2: Instantly defeat target foe, and suspend their account.
3: Instantly defeat target foe, and ban their account.

This is all the info I have for the moment. I think it might also be a transform. But not sure what you transform into. I’ll keep you updated!

I’ve found that players who have low self esteem and “forfeit” as soon as a challenge faces them, often go to the forums to complain negatively a one-sided story how they could not/would not “simply try” because they want to be catered one way or another.

Whaaat? That’s a load of fertilizer, and you should know better. I forfeited, and this wasn’t at the beginning, or middle! I left at Reinforcements #2 because it was tedious, and I had other things I could be doing. Like my 100% run of Metroid Prime. I didn’t forfeit because it was hard; or too difficult for myself. Or low self esteem.

Just a game with no monthly fee. If you endured to get the loot. Good for you.

Just because it’s free after the first payment, doesn’t mean that you forfeit all rights to honestly critique content. That’s an old argument, and it is a flawed one.

Continued…

I couldn’t sleep again, not even with my Charrlie plushie at my side. So I’m not sure if today was a lucid dream or real. Arenanet coordinated everyone to the proper starting spots, and things felt like they were moving pretty good. Little lag, even though there were a ton of us eager players huddled together.

The event was split into two halves, and there was no wrong choice for which to do first. Unlike other games, where you zerg the thing and end it in 15 minutes, this was more slow-paced, but seamless.

We were escorting four NPCs into the hive, but they probably could’ve done this without us. Their AI was uncanny, like they were played by Arenanet staff. (Maybe they were?) And the kraka inside were engaging. Different from the first two days. We only had to fight each one, once, because of the solvent we had applied to our weapons still. And there was clever combos of moves used by the Veterans and Champions, that made it hard to predict what they would do next.

Sadly the event ended just under an hour, it was really fun though. But who wants to play something tedious for 2 and a half hours? Overall, I really am glad I made time for this event. My monthly is just about done, and I’m thinking on how to spend the karma.

Once again, thank you, Arenanet, for making such great content. I am so happy to be your #1 fan. <3

Oh man, I really love Arenanet right now! This finale event is really great and all their polishing shows. To think of the testing they must have done, for this amazing, past weekend.

There wasn’t even a single bugged NPC. When I did Inspector Kiel’s thing, I kept worrying I was going to get hooked, but run into a bug, preventing me from advancing. The fact that this didn’t happen actually made me feel like this was a horror movie. That part where you look behind you, see nothing, and expect to turn around and have it staring infront of you? Only it didn’t happen?

I could barely sleep that night, I was so eager to see Phase 2. They opened the boat early and let us go to Southsun Cove. The area took a while to explore, but it was worth it. And the enemies were well-balanced. And it ended Phase 2 without any abrupt cliffhangers like in other games.

Running out of room, I’ll make another post.

its pretty

Nah. They didn’t talk. They either didn’t care, or maybe they were botters. But it’s not uncommon, I guess, for some people playing together, to chat on Skype and ignore everyone. Had that happen a few times, on my Priest, in PUGs back on WoW pre-BC.

Why do they play?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drosser.2317

Drosser.2317

Why do people play an MMO if they want to play alone? I was in the Plains of Ashford, a really populated zone, and I’ve seen the NPC, that starts the Decimus Stone event, standing around for a while. I see 2 people nearby, so I decide to start it.

It’s going good, in a minute we’ve got 5-6 players and we’re doing just great. We completed the event, but I noticed there was a little more area to go, which has a splendid chest and a veteran mob. So I shout “Stop! Why don’t we go a bit further? We can finish this and get some decent loot. We already have the people here.” and not a single person stays…

So I tried to go forward a bit, and see if anybody will change their mind and catch up with me, I get into the room with the Veteran and fight him to half his health before dying. And I didn’t die slow. No one came back, and no new players showed up either…

I don’t understand these people. They had the time for a dynamic event, and sticking it through to the end, but no drive or want to play an extra 3 minutes and get something extra done?

Sorry for the rant, but if I’m already seeing this kind of antisocial behavior happening in the first area of the game, it’s a bit discouraging. It’s a Saturday night! Why don’t people want to see content they might’ve missed either? Is everyone just playing WvW and complaining about things there, or repeatedly grinding dungeons and nothing else? Do they need an achievement as an incentive for every little thing?

I thought of trying a roman/latin name before that, but neither seemed to work for me.

Don’t suppose there’s anyone here that could help me? I’m thinking of something like; <name> the <title>. This character is going to be my gladium.

In exchange I offer you respect, admiration, and a silly picture.

There was a thread for the Sylvari; about how it seemed like there were non-stop numbers of same-sex pairings, and how this was a valid and accepted part of Sylvari customs.

But what about the other races? I’m kind of interested in doing a study, regarding all the playable races and their stances/sexuality. I thought I’d start off with the hardest one, given how tough and militaristic the Charr are.

Have any same-sex couples been spotted or hinted at in-game? I’m curious as to how the Charr would react to something like this. There is some speculation, given they’re based on Romans/Spartans.

It could work just like the normal vendors, and be located somewhere within our city.

GW2 Rangers Poorly Designed?

I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose… (petless) Ranger!

And I don’t want warrior. It’s different from ranger. They only get one type of bow, and don’t have the traps or nature stuff. They also wear a different armor type. I get I miss out on some things by not using the pet, but I did it in Guild Wars 1 without problems, and I can do it again. My decision doesn’t harm anyone else and I’m just as entitled to ranger as the people who play it with pets.

You can manage agro by clicking on the passive skill. Makes your pet just a bystander. It won’t go after your target or go find targets etc.

That doesn’t work. I tried and Vampire Bats still kept attacking my Moa. It had done nothing to gain aggro. The bat just decided to attack it, and because it has life steal, the pet ended up being a source for easy heals on the bats part.

So, what you really want is for “stow away” button to keep pet hidden in fight as well, so that you can play the way you want? That sounds more like a suggestion for improvement, rather than complaint about class design and doesn’t seem like anything bad.

For the record, warriors can also use rifles and thieves can also use pistols, so they are not limited to single ranged weapon.

I like bows. So many games have done guns to death for me.

The complaint about class design kind of operates on the matter that Arenanet seems to refuse giving us the option I suggested for Stow Away. I’m not the first person to request it. And if you were to google it, a lot of people want to hide the pet and play rangers like the good old times. It’s something we’re familiar with and love. We just really want to enjoy Ranger again.

I see a few reasons. And for clarity, I never said that pets are terrible. Just that they shouldn’t be mandatory for a class that has many other strong suits and elements.

It did require a sacrifice in the first game, but it wasn’t just about that. It was also that we didn’t want to have to babysit an NPC. There are things like aggro to consider, and proper coordination.

Some players (arguably a minority) just want a simple compromise regarding pets. We’re not demanding they be removed from the players that like them, or altered drastically. Just that those of us, that want to operate solo, can do so. Is that so much to ask for?

It worked in the first game, and while this isn’t the first game, it can still work here. If I don’t want to use pets, I have to give up the spirits and other abilities and play a class that’s more divided onto other things. Warriors and Thieves for example. Can’t warriors only use longbows, and Thieves shortbows? And Thieves operate with intiative.

Would the community humor the notion that rangers are poorly designed this time around? I was a primary Ranger in the first game, and I loved it. But I just wasn’t in love with the whole pet thing.

I decided to create a brand new ranger here, and I found out how different they seem. That you can’t play without a pet. If you stow it away, it comes out the next time you enter combat. Most abilities also seem to involve the pets as well.

I personally feel that we’re being forced to play a single “spec”, because Arenanet wants us to embrace their pet system. They’re really struggling to synergize the player and their pet.

I love the spirits, traps and marksmanship of rangers, but they just seem to be overshadowed by pets. What has made Arenanet want to solely define rangers as beast masters? The Ranger goes back to the days of PnP games, and has been done in many other RPGs and MMOs. They don’t all use pets, but they still manage to incorporate the rest of the elements that make a ranger what it is.

So I ask these questions;
Are the rangers of Guild Wars 2 really rangers?
Why has Arenanet refused, time and time again, to let us decide how we want to play the class?
Should “Stow Away” even be there, if it effectively does nothing?

Stow Away Bug

No matter what I do, the pet won’t stay away. Every time I go back into combat, or in/out of the water, the pet shows back up. I’ve tried turning on “Avoid Combat”, but no luck. The pet will still come back out, and it will actually aid the enemy. Vampire Bats can just lifesteal it repeatedly.

Is this a bug or just poor game design? I could play without pets in the first game, and it worked out just fine.
