But, id rather have my healskill on CD (id probably not use it right at the start of the fight and I have DS) than a useless utility on my skill bar.

how does having SW permanently on CD doesn’t make it’s slot useless? oO

Locust swarm is only 10 or 15 seconds

so it’s roughly the same as the swiftness on your heal skill, but it leaves your heal ready in case you get jumped. to me that makes it the better alternative.

but if you wanna risk being jumped on while having heal and a stunbreak on CD, feel free to continue using your build.

i’m not so sure if this is the smartest way to do it. by always having SW on cd you’re basically wasting a utility slot (and a stunbreak). also i wouldn’t want to get jumped on while my heal skill is on cd. you could use Signet of the Locust for a perma speed boost without the need for a 2nd armor set and only investing one utility slot (thus leaving your heal available)

another way would be to have a Warhorn in your inventory, equip it for locust swarm and immediatly reequip your real offhand.

Look through this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Rate-the-Necromancer-look-above-you/first

there’s quite a few good looking asura in there, but most don’t state what armor they’re wearing (it’s usually pretty obvious though).
threre’s also charr in there, so you could also see what those would look like.

Building around scepter and probably staff?

Du Bist Schuld.8097

i think i’ve seen a solo roaming video of someone using a condition build with s/h + staff and perplexity runes. seeing as you got 3 of those skins you’re either rich or broke, so the runes could be a problem

i once used a hybrid s/f +staff (back when dhuumfire just arrived). it wasn’t all that great (even less now after all those nerfs), but that’s the only other build i can think of without you buying new skins.

Still no Offline Mode before login? Why?

Du Bist Schuld.8097

This may be a stupid question but what do you mean by offline mode selection?

In the upper left corner of your friendslist is a small dropdown selection that lets you choose whether you are online, afk or offline. In the case of offline, you will not be visible in friends or guild lists, and people will not be able to whisper you or invite you to groups.

As it is now, somebody that has my account in their friends list will get a notify when I come online, then another that I went offline once I switch that selection to offline, but I won’t be able to ide the fact that I’ve come online at all. In the case that you want to come online unnoticed (for a ton of valid reasons) there’s no way to do so because you are shown as online/friends are notified as soon as you log into the launcher.

i can’t remember that i ever got a message that friendXY went online oO
do you have to turn that on or something?

We should have more ways to put torment on someone to stop people from just kiting the kitten out of us and disengaging whenever the fight isn’t going there way.

Oooh a necro! I’m gonna kill this baddie. Oh kittentt maybe not. Welp see ya later necro!

So sad. … but true
Edit scepter AA needs something else.besides bleeds maybe torment

Only way to implement it into AA would be to replace one of the bleeds for it. not only would it result in more damage (only mobs stand still and even those can be kited) if it has the same duration but also in more condi pressure. just from AA you would be applying 3 different condis which could easily be reapplied.

i could maybe see it replacing bleeds on S2 to fit with the “don’t move” nature of it.
the perfect scenario would be torment added to S3, so it would be more beneficial to condi build besides LF.

however i don’t see any of those changes happening.

Character Creation - new options

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Du Bist Schuld.8097

Du Bist Schuld.8097

If Anet added all the new face and hair options to the options offered in character creation would that really effect the sales of the hair stylist kits that much? The way I see it is that it would sorta make the game feel like it’s growing in a way and give everyone access to the content while still offering players the ability to change the looks of their current characters. I know that I wouldn’t start over just to have a different hair color/style of different face.

That’s my thought. Yours?

While i’d like that to happen (who doesn’t like free stuff?), i’m also against it. quite a few ppl spend a lot of gold to just look better, bcs it’s what shows your dedication to the game. this ranges from dungeon-armor (which is just dedication, not gold), to dyes (some cost 100g+) and (semi-)legendaries.

i (and other ppl) like to have a somewhat exclusive look and while only a few ppl will notice my 25g color, i always know that i have it. this is even more extreme with makeovers. who will ever notice your exclusive eye color or face? no one. the exclusive hair might be noticed, but it’s still mostly knowing, that you don’t just look like everyone and their grandma.

makeovers are currently about 42g (30g for hair style), which is on par with expensive dyes.

One thing i’d like to see implemented is being able to see the exclusive stuff in character creation. that way ppl will at least see what they can get out of a makeover kit without buying it (kinda like dyes in preview). also add an option to use the exclusives in exchange for gems/makeover kit right in character creation. don’t know how difficult all of this would be codingwise

If i remember correctly everthing 3rd party that would give an advantage to any player is not allowed. instantly seeing when something is up would be an advantage over someone who needs to remember to watch the timer every now and then (though i’m not even sure if anet is actually ok with timers existing in the first place)

Power vs Hybrid?

in Necromancer

Du Bist Schuld.8097

flow, what hybrid build are you playing these days?

Here you go.
I would probably use an off hand dagger as well if I didn’t have the staff traits to buff Putrid Mark. But other than that, the warhorn + Banshee’s Wail is pure gold.

How do you feel about your direct damage with your build? i personally never really liked carrion because of the lack of crit (i like seeing those big numbers xD). you seem pretty durable though, so it might not be much of a problem.

btw i tried the d/d + staff rotation mentioned earlier versus the s/d + staff version of it on the indestructible golems and took the time it needs to get it’s hp from 100-0 once. i used celestial for this test (just bcs it gives the same amount of power/prec/fer and condi damage, so no build would be at a disadvantage).
didn’t try it too often (like 5 times each) because it is a pain in the kittycat to reset them to full hp (unless i’m an idiot xD).

the results were actually pretty even. it took somewhere between 42-52 seconds to ‘kill’ it and the deviation inside the groups was larger than between the two builds. which means two things: the damage is very comparable and i suck at consitently doing such rotations.

Power vs Hybrid?

in Necromancer

Du Bist Schuld.8097

I’ve done some testing myself a while ago and in very optimal settings the scepter could come close to 6k dmg with Feast of Corruption. However, in the very same situation Ghastly Claws would do ~10k when not even all of the 8 consecutive hits were critical. Needless to say, the scepter would fall a lot more behind if there were less conditions on the target. Also, the cooldown on axe is much lower, the life force regeneration is better and more reliable, utility of Unholy Feast beats Grasping Dead and damage in DS is higher with an axe equipped.

The only weak thing on the axe is its auto attack. So I’m not at all surprised about the results of your test, but keep in mind: against actual opponent you’ll use more than just auto attack and then 2+3 whenever they’re off cd.

All true. For my test i just wanted to know how different weapons would fit into a power build, so i could only use the weapon specific skills. Obviously axe is better than scepter for any power build, but i’m not so sure about hybrid, as bleeds start doing significantly more damage there. axe still has the edge with axe training and it’s DS boosting.
I don’t really know how s3 vs. a2 works out in pvp. condis are being cleansed thus reducing s3 (plus it’s just one hit, so critting with it is hit or miss), but any halfway skilled player could just dodge a big part of a2’s damage.

If we’re just analysing sustained damage on a single weapon then dagger and scepter are the clear winners. If you’re trying to set up a burst rotation incorporating all of your skills to get more than 20 stacks of bleeding then you don’t need the scepter at all.
And yes, this thread is more about PvE, but against other players in WvW or sPvP you’ll rarely get to use your auto attack anyway.

that’s all true for pvp. but pve is either bursting down trash mobs (in which i wouldn’t even start burst stacking bleeds in a complex rotation when dagger1 does the job equally good) or prolonged boss fights in which sustained damage is better. however i don’t know if burst stacking of bleeds with lows in between, but being able to attack with the hard hitting DS and D1 attacks is better than something like scepter bleed stack -> switch to axe F4->a2 ->DS rotation -> back to scepter

U aren´t using Staff 1. After the swap to staff use 234 DS 2/5111(1) staff 2, switch back to dagger. Sigil of earth isn´t used. Geomancy is better.

but, but, you didn’t say anything about DS, you just said that staff has better direct damage. qq
(please read this with some funny/childish tone to it and don’t take it offensive )

i just tried your build/rotation and it’s a pretty nice condition burst. i didn’t manage to get to over 20 stacks without BiP or any food (tried it in the mists)and shortly after rotating back to the dagger the stacks dropped down to about 5 with d5 being on CD.
in a prolonged boss fight where you can do multiple rotations the stacks should add up a bit more though.
so, i stand corrected and have to admit that you can do a hybrid build without scepter (even though it needs a specific setup and a precise rotation that you can only achieve in fulltime melee)

EDIT: just tried this vs. an indestructable golem and the max i got was 17 stacks (peaks were usually 15-16 though) with said lows of 5-6 on dagger. with food or runes this would ofc be higher. It may as well be just me not knowing the absolutely perfect rotation though

with a scepter/staff and similair (point blank) rotation i managed peaks of up to 22 (usually more like 18-19 though) with lows of 10-12
that means during the lows i had 372 – 651 (at 1000 CD) more (Condition) DPS which would make the gap between scepter and dagger thinner.

Power vs Hybrid?

Du Bist Schuld.8097

For PvE just use Spoj´s guide.

Scepter does rly low direct dmg. With staff d/d and the right rotation u have more then 15 bleeds on both weaponssets (average, 20-25 are possibel), and superior direct dmg on both sets.

I just calculated the possible avg stacks on D/D + Staff and it’s theoretically possible with the right cooldown reductions, enough Condi duration and sigil of earth to get to 15 Bleeds. I’m not sure how likely it is, but i stand corrected on this one.

Scepter will (rightfully) never reach dagger lvls of direct damage, but it isn’t that shabby. I tested it for another thread and it wasn’t too much behind the axe in a full power build. However it was far better than the staff in the same situation. now account for the much better and more consistent bleed stacking on it and it massively outdamages a staff in a hybrid build.
I’d try to make a comparison of hybrid dagger vs. scepter on the golems, but imo Hybrid doesn’t work too well in the mists due to being forced into (suboptimal) Stats.

Power vs Hybrid?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Du Bist Schuld.8097

Du Bist Schuld.8097

  • Short fight single target dps (standard mobs):
Power. don’t think anyone will argue against that.
  • Short fight AoE dps:
    Debatable.
Power has A3, DS4/5, DS1 (pretty hard to hit more than 2 or 3 though), Staff (which is more utility than damage) Focus4 and Well of Suffering(/Corruption)
realistically used against a group of mobs is probably WoS -> DS5/4 -> DS1/AA if anything survives. (which doesn’t lock you into an axe/saff build)
Hybrid has pretty much everything Power has + S2, D5, D4(not the greatest dmg though) and Epidemic.
If you’re really just pulling 5 mobs and kill them power will probably be faster.
if you’re fighting something like the risen giant (mostly single target, but spawns additional mobs) a hybrid will just epidemic the 20 bleeds+other condis and the adds are dead.
  • Long fight single target dps:
The long fight stuff depends a lot on one thing: how many ppl are there? is it just you who tries to solo a boss, you with a few friends or a zerg?
for pure single hybrid should catch up (conditions are finally able to stack and bring their real pain) and do comparable damage (i think it’s a bit lower though)
same for a group of friends IF they don’t bring conditions -> power is easier to fit in
in a zerg power wins hands down. too many ppl who overwrite you condis.
  • Long fight AoE dps:
hybrid should have the advantage here with more spammable AoEs + Epidemic
in a zerg even a hybrid should probably concentrate on the power-part and use epidemic to do more aoe
  • Higher survivability:
    depending on the exact builds.
power has better Lifeforce-generation and thus better DS uptime.
hybrid usually has at least a few celestial items leading to better vitality/thoughness/healing power. LF-gen can be taken care of by the power-part (D1 or A/F). also better damage at >600 range through scepter and condis (thus staying safer).
i’d give this to hybrid IF power is a regular zerker
  • Generally more useful in dungeons:
depending on team comp. but if you want a plug and play char power is probably better
  • Generally more useful in fractals:
haven’t run in ages (and never got high) but should be the same as above
  • More accepted for group play (relates to last 2):
    don’t know. probably power
  • More respected by community:
    really don’t know
  • WvW roaming and skirmishing:
again depending on number of targets/allies
  • Generally easier to play:
i might give this one to hybrid. while it has more complex rotations than a D1 spam, being in melee takes more practice to survive.
  • (Complete opinion) More fun to play:
i like both and have a weapon/armor set for each

keep in mind that i’m nowhere near being a pro and this is just my opinion which will most likely differ from some other necros

Axe/scepter is not rly a viable build.

IMO if you’re not using scepter in a hybrid build you are better off just going for power. scepter/dagger stacks by far the most bleeds. without it any condition damage is wasted and could have been better put into pow/prec/fer. if you just wanna use terror/dhuumfire you should just stick to their base damage and what you get from curses (will probably be less effective than power traits).

I am playing a necro with Scepter(Sigil of Earth)/Dagger(Sigil of Air) + Axe(Sigil of Air)/Focus(Sigil of Fire) and everytime i log in the sigil of air is not working on either weapon set. the animation and sound don’t occur and the damage is not in the battle log (sigil of earth/fire are working though).

i can fix this by unequipping one of the air-sigil weapons (doesn’t matter which) and reequipping it.

this is a quite substantial bug as you’re missing out on a lot of damage (that you invested money in) if you’re not aware of it. and even then it’s pretty annoying to think of it EVERY time you login/get a DC/etc

Considering we are supposed to be masters of conditions (and sending them back is the only part where this is true) i don’t think it is that over the top. it’s part of the design. we are good vs. conditions and are bad when facing hard cc/mobility/getting away.

4 transfers isn’t even that realistic. you’d need staff+x/dagger with plague signet to get to 3. the last one is underwater, thus almost never being able to count as a 4th. if you really wanna spec that much against conditions (and being master of conditions lore-wise) you deserve to be hardcountering anyone who mindlessly throws conditions at you

btw if i remember correctly putrid mark never worked that way. it always said to transfer condis from allies, but only ever sent them from you. some day the devs said it was ‘working as intended’ and changed the tooltip (prolly because fixing would have been dificult and nec shouldn’t have utility that ppl might want).

Spite VIII. Axe. +10% damage, More base DPS. Period. Add retaliation, AOE cripple (that even hits those pesky little stealth users) easy vulnerability, and greater range + shorter cd’s = more crits.

Dagger is good for mm’s 1v1ing nubs, sacrificing DPS, condi dmg, or crit dmg/life force for a tiny heal (unless you sacrifice even more to make it seem like it’s worth it) And the perfectly timed immobilize on Skyhammer

I just did some testing on the Heavy pvp golem and took the time i needed to kill it with the different builds. (10 times in a row)
all builds used the zerk amulet with runes of scholar and no sigils. all had the same 6/2/0/0/6 traits (unless stated otherwise) with axe mastery/close to death/deathly perception as the only major traits.

-Utilities/Elites
-Different DPS uptime due to range

July 23rd patch notes: hidden buffs edition

in Necromancer

Posted by: Du Bist Schuld.8097

Du Bist Schuld.8097

I wouldn’t say that most of these are nerfs. It depends on the situation and build. In some cases these are buffs, in some they are not.

Damage taken while in death shroud will now overflow to the necromancer’s health pool if the damage taken is greater than the remaining life force.
If you take a look at Wiki there’s a note that says
“Taking falling damage while in Death Shroud will drain life force. Any excess falling damage is negated, allowing any necromancer to fall from heights normally deadly”.

This might still be untouched after the patch.
The change might only be affected by damage from enemies.

I’d love this to be true, but i agree with the others that anets reason to nerf it was accessing unfinished/whatever areas. i never had any profit from jumping to an unreachable place and had to port my way back, so i don’t see any problem.

using 11% DS as a shield might seem OP if we could jump in and out of DS at any time, but with a 10s CD (7s traited) doesn’t seem stronger than blocks or vigor (don’t know their uptime on other professions though). plus with addiotional dodges from vigor you’re blocking EVERYTHING for the time of the dodge and not just a single hit ..

Thanks for another great video Nemesis. Just wondering, will you be replacing your armour with Celestial once it’s available?

can’t tell you what the great nemesis would do, but i don’t think so. you’d gain crit dmg and survivability (which isn’t that bad in this build) at the cost of damage (significant drop in power, Condi dmg and even more prec.).

the crit dmg won’t benefit much, as you lost your base damage and you’re going to crit less often (crit chance at 44%), which also results in less bleeds from on-crits.

I agree. I like to use Lich Form for boss battles in dungeons, and Flesh Golem when clearing trash. It sucks to have to wait 3 minutes before I can swap out my elite. Usually my party does not want to wait, and will just go on fighting, never really giving me a chance to leave combat and equip it.

erm, how about you go with the golem while clearing mobs and switch to lich form right before boss. Lich is now off CD (unless you used golem chargea few moments ago) and you’re able to face the boss straight away. bosses usually take a few minutes, so either your lich is off CD again or you run around without Fleshie for a min or two (which isn’t that much of a problem, cos you got a party to take the beating for you).

@OP: don’t think they’ll EVER implement anything like that.

unfortunately axe really isn’t that Good (Even though i Love it’s playstyle). However A2 Deals about the Same dmg as D2 but has a lower Channel Time -> more dps, but it’s still outDPSed (is that a Word?) by the dagger autoattack.

scepter is actually a better power weapon than axe. the autoattack can crit for 800 (normal Hits) to over 1k (Last Hit) plus applies bleeds (50-60 per Tick without cond) and poison to Take Down heals. S2 is mich like A3 but targetable and Bleed instead of retal. S3 is actually pretty Good. with a few conditions on your victim this can crit for 3k+ and give you lf per conditions. add a Focus and you will see huge lf-gen. and all of that at a Range of 900.

staff is our Standard weapon. AA crits for 1200+, Regen, chill, aoe weakness, Transfer all of your and your allies conditions to a target + Good DD and an aoe fear to Top it Off. what’s not to love? and try greater marks (and maybe Soul marks)

Edit: scepter is a worse weapon than axe if you’re in a conditions heavy team/large Events. you would just Remove the stronger bleeds with you small ones and vuln would amplify everyones dmg. but you still got your staff, dagger or ds for These scenarios

The Focus skill ’Reaper’s Touch’ CAN bounce to minions (at least to fleshie) if they are in Range for the bounce. It just focuses on Real Players (and maybe NPCs, but i’m Not sure about that).

I’d definitely add Knight’s gear to the power setup. It gives everything a power necro can wish for: Power (as a Minor though), Precision and loads of thoughness.
Toughness and Vitality are both necessary Stats for survivability but as the necro has the highest Base hp Toughness outshines the effect of Vitality. Plus you can Build a tanky Powermancer by going all Knight’s but an all out Valkyrie would just suck (why would i want crit dmg if i won’t crit?). Valkyrie is Great as an Addition to Power builds though.

don’t think it’s a bug, at least not a trident specific one. i killed underwater mobs several times with staff/scepter/axe.

Don’t like this either, but what bothers me the most is that you don’t just have to wait for a bit to get the spots on the eternal battlefields (which should take some time too, especially bcs blue is totally dominating our wvw) but that you have to do EVERY homeland. i mean cmon. they’re all the same. i enjoyed getting 100% on most maps, but i really don’t wanna be forced to do the same map 3 time, especially if the 2nd and 3rd time are way harder.

so please remove wvw from it or at least don’t make us do stuff three times
