Yes we are but that’s okay. Other professions haven’t figured us out entirely so it’s nice to pull something out of our sleeves once in a while and get people to say, “wtf was that?! how’d you do that??”
We’re a rare breed…I rarely see any in T1 WvW. There’s one guildie besides me who plays an engineer as a main.
Yep, it’s a bug that has been here for months. You just got to be careful when using it in WvW, especially when running away from the enemy zerg…make sure you don’t get caught with the bug and end up standing still, then being mauled to death after…sigh.
What I do to work around this bug is that the second you land on your feet after using rocket boots, you run forward zig-zag (left, right, left, right) with your mouse to get yourself to maintain the running forward motion. That, or change kits immediately after seems to work too. It’s not 100% but it’s better than nothing. Good luck!
The only issue I have is if your server/home world is organizing an event and they tell you to waypoint to ____ map on map chat (as a general invite to all interested in joining them), how would you know if you are going to end up on the same map as them? Sometimes I’d like to work with familiar faces in my home world server instead of PUGs or people from other servers, solely for coordination reasons. I find it easier to work with people and names I know than complete strangers from other servers who may or may not know what they are doing. Will the maps have names? What I liked with the current map organization is that it’s based on server + map name. It’s easy to find people, almost like X marks the spot.
With the new megaserver system coming out, I prefer it if we have names or numbers, at least, to each server/map we end up waypointing to…or something similar to GW1 where there are districts and numbers corresponding to the district you are in, so everyone knows which district you are in without always having to form parties, then disband to add more people in to “ferry” them into your server. That, or I know if I’m actually in the right server or the different one. I want to know asap if I’ll be stuck in server A or B, etc. so I can make alternate arrangements quickly to be in the server I wish to be in before the event is over.

Engineers are versatile, rewarding, and fun to play. They differ from the other professions because they require creativity, and due to their wide range of abilities they tend to be unique from person to person. While builds may be similar, its not often I encounter two engineers that play the same, nor have encountered any that mirrored my own.
It results in players being a bit more interested in what crazy things someone else thought of that you missed, rather than looking for the gimmick build.
Here here! You said it!
It’s the profession for those who are not quitters and we love the challenge so we put time and effort into it. I love a good challenge so this is why my engi is my main character. That, and I love explosions, bombs and funky steam punk themed kits.
It’s the profession for those who wish to really put effort in turning something some would regard as “boring” or “weak” to something creative and fun. Yes, it’s probably the most neglected profession out there but there are so much variety in terms of builds one could create. I like to think it’s a profession for those who love a good challenge and love to think analytically, tinker around with builds to make it work, and just create new and fun things.
Deep down, we’re probably all scientists who love to tinker around with stuff and make things go BOOM!
Engineers unite!
I recently started using Rocket Boots in WvW and I actually like it, it helps me get out of jams and sticky situations. However, what I noticed when I cast Rocket Boots is that I’m flying forward (which is intended) but after I land, if I hold my left and right mouse button immediately to try to run forward afterwards (basically continuing moving forward without stopping and to maintain movement fluidity), I am literally stuck, not able to move at all. Now, since I’m new to this skill, I don’t know if this is supposed to happen or if it’s a bug. Whatever it is, I find it annoying that I am unable to move forward at crucial times (e.g. about to die by zerg) unless I click on my left and right mouse buttons several times (pressing both buttons simultaneously and to try to even move!).
Now, what I also notice is if I immediately swap kits after landing on the ground (after casting Rocket Boots), I am better able to maintain a forward movement and not stop after landing.
Anyone have a similar situation when using Rocket Boots?
I think overall it should clear out some MF gear off of some players, more room in the inventory.
I think the only issue I have was that in the patch notes, their explanation of what would happen to your MF trinkets was vague. They mentioned that MF trinkets will become account bound. Unfortunately, they did not mention any exceptions to this. In the end, they did not clearly explain or indicate that previously soulbound MF trinkets will, after the patch, continue to become soulbound to the original owner of the item, and will not become account bound at all. Because of the vagueness of this, I actually ended up changing the stats of my ascended MF ring (which is weird, other characters in your account should not be able to change the stats if it is “soulbound”, only the original soulbound owner should have the power) on another character thinking that whoever changes the stats, it would become soulbound to the new owner. Well, that did not happen. I ended up changing the stats on another character, but the item still ended up soulbound to the original owner. It had elements of it being account bound but was still soulbound which led to a lot of confusion amongst some players. I basically selected stats I doubt I’ll use on my character (the original soulbound owner).
Perhaps in the future, it would be nice to get a clearer explanation and exceptions to major changes that happens in the game because there was no disclaimer in the patch notes, and y’know, that’s a total waste of an ascended trinket, sigh. :/
That’s what I did…
Basically, person A owns the MF ascended ring. MF nerf comes and supposedly makes it “account bound”.
Person B selects this item (it’s still listed as soulbound if you hover mouse over it) from bank, since person B cannot withdraw it from bank. Person B selects stats and boom! The ascended ring is STILL soulbound to person A…
Basically, person B or any character from the account can choose stats, but cannot wear it. It is still soulbound to original owner.
I’m basically asking is this a bug or intended? I thought the MF change would make it account bound, meaning that previously soulbound items will turn account bound and let anyone in the account use it, because frankly, I cannot use it on my other character…-__-
As stated in the topic, I am confused as to whether it is a bug or that MF ascended rings/trinkets that were once soulbound will become account bound or not. I don’t want to jump into conclusions but thought I’d ask first and find an answer since I cannot find it anywhere!
I thought the GW2 announcement said that, “Weapons, armor and trinkets with magic find will become account bound, lose their current stats and will gain the ability to be double-clicked to select one of several stat options depending on the item.”
So…when the MF nerf came, I hovered my mouse over my MF ascended rings (soulbound) and double clicking it, it showed it as “account bound, soulbound on use” when I am selecting replacement stats. So, I decided since I already have non-MF ascended rings, I might as well give these “account-bound” rings to my other char. I double clicked the item (the rings were in my bank) and it showed replacement stats and the whole, “account bound, soulbound on use” thing, and I select a stat. Then I was able to transfer it to this char but noticed it’s still “soulbound to another character”…basically even though I was able to select different stats for it, it is still soulbound to the original character…
Ummm is this supposed to happen?? Or is it a bug? Or are soulbound MF gear not included in the whole “weapons, armor and trinkets with magic find will become account bound” statement not apply for these trinkets??
Thanks in advance.
Hey, I just noticed today that the BLTC vendor doesn’t have the jade tickets tab anymore…is this intended or was it inadvertently taken out of the npc by mistake? I couldn’t find any information regarding it being taken out so I’m wondering if it was a mistake or not…
I still have 2 more jade tickets I want to trade in in the future once I decide which skins I am going to use on my characters… o__o;
I think if you have a good condition removal skill, you can go around this and live. And yeah, I agree it only weeds out the bad players.
I tried this in WvW for about 30 minutes but in zerg on zerg battles, you can only interrupt like one guy at a time with the shield, maybe a few with elite supply. I don’t see this as a game changer but that may be because zergs have stability and on top of that, dump stun and daze on other zergs so you have to work around the red aoe circles too while trying to focus on a random guy to interrupt and stack confusions on but even then, the enemy zerg train moves around so you have to watch out for them and move around them too.
I think overall, it’s pretty OP 1v1 but in a WvW zerg setting (tier 1 server), not so much of a game changer. I’m sticking to my condition grenade build, I find I can tag more kills and dps that way against zergs. So yeah, unless you like to 1v1 in WvW or go in small 3-4 man groups and just roam around, I don’t really see this as OP compared to other professions like the condi necro who can stack tons of aoe conditions on you. You can easily remove confusion with a proper condition removal skill.
AR is pretty strong but I wouldn’t jump into conclusions and say it’s very OP. I wouldn’t feel so OP being at 25% hp, frankly. Usually when I’m at 25% hp in WvW, I’d run the hell away at this point, far far away from the zerg…
Also, I think it’s fair that for every “Achille’s heel” skill/build, there is a counter to it. It just so happens heavily condi builds has AR to counter it. I wouldn’t want to see an overly OP build (with supposedly no counters) that can kill me in seconds and I don’t think Anet would want to see that either. And to counter AR, you need power to dps the crap out of us and kill AR engis. There’s the counter, folks; our kryptonite.
I’ve been using a rabid/carrion hybrid, where there is a good balance between conditions and power. Rabid armor with carrion trinkets. You get your toughness and CD from the armor, and power and conditions from the trinkets. If you use grenades and bombs, you’ll still be doing a great deal of damage (both from dps power and condition damage). I find this is a good balance than buying 2 separate armor sets. For that extra healing support, I use EG and swap the accessories with settler’s gear.
Berserker rifles for power and pistols for condition damage. I use both.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a cannon kit, something like Horrik’s aoe cannon. Having a high dps aoe cannon would be sweet. This kit could have an aoe nail skill for crippling foes and an ultimate skill where there is a multiple aoe skill (rains down a larger radius of damage, acid, conditions, etc., like firestorm).
I WANT A PORTAL GUN. THAT IS ALL.
That, and a rocket launcher kit because nothing is complete without a rocket launcher.
Oh, and a grappling gun kit. One of the grappling gun kit skills will include an aoe skill where we can to dictate where the person who is immobilized/grappled lands.
And a futuristic goggle kit skill. When you click on the kit, you get 5 skills and you are automatically wearing a pair of steam punk goggles. The temporary steam punk goggles will make up for the hobo sacks we have to always wear. They work like utility goggles but you many options, like maybe a stun breaker, protection, aegis, stability, etc. They aren’t offensive skills, but rather defensive/evasion skills used to somehow protect you.

i’m excited for the change, and as i’ve already stated, i want to do all i can to make sure my investments are returned in honest. magic find doesn’t go out and farm for you, it takes time and effort on your part to seek out events and mobs. magic find sets don’t drop into your lap. it takes time and money to buy them. i never use my magic find sets in dungeons, so while i agree with much of what you’re saying, just because you don’t care doesn’t mean that anet should not fully consider their players.
Yes, I agree with this. “Getting over it” just doesn’t cut it. An investment, regardless of item (e.g. MF versus non-MF gear) is an investment involving time, effort and money, and as such, we should somehow be fairly compensated. We’ve traded away dps for MF and we already know we have to work a bit harder to compensate. Calling MF gear users a “leech” is rather unfair; even if my engineer wore tanky dps gear, I will still never compare to a tanky dps warrior…does this mean I’m a leech? This is just silly. I have even done more damage and work than some non-MF gear players in group parties in the past. If you’re a experienced/skilled player with MF gear, you can still contribute a lot in a party.
Also, MF gear users are generally those who farm for materials and sell them to the TP for COFp1 dungeon gold farmers to buy (sad but true). It’s a little ironic how some dungeon players don’t like those who wear MF gear, yet rely on them to buy materials they need because they would rather farm for gold than materials. Well, if it turns out the acount bound MF is a lot less in the future, expect to pay a lot more for your materials! I guess we should tell them to “get over it”, right?
What ever changes Anet makes, I hope it causes little disruption to the price of materials which would have initially been obtained most optimally through materials farming with MF gear.
I’m also curious how they’ll compensate us for the loss of MF-stat items. Let’s say I have 120% MF worth of gear and then the nerf comes. Will we end up having 120% MF account wide instead?
Also, regarding the “spirit of cooperation”. I usually use my MF gear and ascended trinkets for solo farming. I’m technically not teaming up with anyone so how would this work or benefit me? This “spirit of cooperation” statement seems to favour group parties more than solo hunting. I don’t mind the lower stats found in MF gear because I am skilled enough on my character I don’t die while farming. So what will happen to my solo farming once the MF gear is gone? I actually use berserker and knight gear and equip it with superior runes of pirate and traveller. What will happen to these MF runes? Will I be getting lower chance of good drops and mats? I won’t mind the MF nerf in the future as much, as long as I get compensated and have it somehow mirror the MF percentage and number of good quality drops I’ve been getting soloing before this change takes place.
It’s a delicate matter and I hope they come up with a good balance between those who use such gear for soloing versus group/dungeoning. And FYI, solo farming doesn’t always mean CS event farming. For those people who have zero sympathy for others using MF gear in CS events, you can’t just assume that is the only way to solo farm. I usually farm in frostgorge and southsun and I am usually alone (no one is literally around). Team cooperation literally does not apply in this particular situation.
There is one thing I think Anet has done well on, and it is the kite fortunes. The 10 minute (it stacks, yay) of 50% MF have been well-received in my guild and I usually save up my kite fortunes and open them when solo farming in hopes I get the 50% MF boost. I wonder if this will tie in to the whole MF account bound goal (maybe do a temporary account bound MF boost, lasting 24 hours or something) or replace MF gear with this option. Of course, seeing something like 100% or 150% MF boosts would be nice for the future.

I think before you go on and follow people’s advice, you have to ask yourself a few questions surrounding which areas you are most comfortable with. Some people are more comfortable using the mouse, others use both, and a few prefer the keyboard over the mouse. There is no point in following people’s suggestions if you are not comfortable switching over to their method because the learning curve may be steep. That said, a lot of people who posted have a lot of good recommendations and I agree with most of it.
So before you pick and choose one method, you should ask yourself a few important questions:
1. Are you comfortable using the mouse, keyboard, or both?
2. Are you familiar with the keyboard (like, can you type fast and blindfolded)?
3. Do you have a gaming mouse? And if no, are you willing to invest in one?
For me, because I am good with typing and can type blindfolded (e.g. I am very familiar with the location of the keys) and because I don’t have a gaming mouse, I was restricted with using both the keyboard and mouse when playing. I couldn’t bind skills onto the mouse since it was a generic 3-button mouse (left, right and scroll button). I know my way around the keys so I knew I would have to cast skills with the number keys with my left hand.
With this in mind, I generally moved with the mouse (right hand) and cast skills using 1-0 and f1-f4 (left hand). I found casting skills 8-0 difficult to reach with my left hand (since right hand was on the mouse) and eventually binded 8 to 0 as f5-f7. I also changed some arrow key bindings, so I had the wasd as the secondary arrow keys (‘a’ key for strafing left, ‘d’ for strafing right), and q (turn left) and e (turn right). Dodge was set as v. My aim was to cast skills and dodge without actually moving my left hand. It was all finger and wrist movement.
When using grenades, I enabled fast-cast ground targeting so whenever I hovered my mouse over the ground, that was where the grenades would immediately land. You would only do this if you are comfortable with it. Some don’t do this, others do. It’s up to you. I find engis to be somewhat squishy so I had to train myself to grenade kite around enemies. It was hard in the beginning but I eventually got used to it. My advice: don’t grenade kite for over an hour…your pinky will be very sore.
To grenade kite, I had to do it in a way where my left hand would stay stationary, otherwise I would hit all the wrong keys since my hand wouldn’t know where it was! This meant that I would have to use my mouse to travel around in circles at the same time, you would have to find a way of running sideways (strafe) while using your mouse to run forward and turn. So, my solution to kite counter-clockwise was to hold the d (strafe right) with my left middle finger, while pressing my mouse (both left and right button) with my right hand, while pressing #1-2 grenade skills with my left pinky. Pressing #3 would involve my 4th (ring) finger, and #4-5 with my index left finger. You do this while multi-tasking mouse targeting on the ground.
I would suggest first kiting in a straight line so you get your mouse aim right, plus the time it takes for the grenades to land (plus get used to the timing of when it hits the enemy) then work your way up to kite in circles.
Good luck and hope this helps!
Ohhh didn’t know that! Thank you very much, Astral Projections and Uther Deathhand for your explanation!
Is there any way to transmute these dragon helms so that it will be account bound? I bought two cheap level 10 white helms and was ready to use the dragon skin, double clicked it, and it says in red letters that transmuting this will become soulbound! I thought transmuting them to generic white armors will make them account bound…
Any suggestions?
I am hoping the soon-to-be-released steampunk armors will be skins used for PvE and not towns clothes.
Oooh, nice builds! So these builds are mainly suitable for WvW?
Anyone know of any viable build for engis for those with settler’s rings, amulets and keepsakes? They’re pretty affordable right now on the TP, I’m seeing around 50 silver each, and would like to put these to good use!
They have toughness, healing power and condition damage.
I’m thinking of a tanky/healer support build but haven’t seen any yet. Maybe a healing turret with elixir gun sort of build?
Did anyone already create a nice build for these settler’s gear yet?
My prototype steampunk armour that I am deciding on transmuting onto exotic gear in the near future. I haven’t finalized on which dyes to use, but I wanted a steampunk form-fitting leather style and these armours/skins were all that I could find that I found suitable.

I would like to join, sign me up please! I won’t be able to get on to accept the guild invite til 1-2 days later though, fyi.
Now that guesting will be coming in the near future, are you guys going to do things other than WvW for those who are from other servers?
Would be hilarious to see you guys (maybe like 15-20) all at once plant a whole area with the big ol’ bomb in WvW and see what happens XD
Yeah, the only issue with elixirs that prevents me from using some of them is the randomness. It would be nice to see some more reliability in what types of boons we will get. I do like the idea of having specific boons given when your hp is at a certain %. As for stealth or stability, I don’t use that elixir often so I have no opinion on that but since it is a 50/50 chance, I suppose maybe leave it as is?
Also, the mortar elite skill needs to have a longer range than grenades. I end up never using the mortar because my grenades can do so much more.
Nice photos, you should post more or set up a folder of all your engi adventures on imgur I’m thinking of joining this all-engi guild but I’m in the JQ server so I’m not sure how I’ll be even able to participate in anything!
I think anything with clocks and pressure meters would look better on steam punk style weapons but yeah, the shield is an interesting idea I’d like to see.
Oh oh oh, maybe a steam punk style watch hanging on chest armor or belt of the steam punk armor, that’d be cool!
I want a rocket launcher too!!! They can get rid of the mortar, I don’t need it! I can get more range with grenades than the elite mortar anyways…
Steam punk style power gloves or some sort of power arm! That shoots rockets and cool stuff, 007 style!!!
Steam powered turrets that move and follow you like pets
Or turrets with wheels, which will zero in on the enemy like a torpedo and won’t explode til it reaches its destination, haha. Probably not going to happen but one can dream…
Would be cool to have med kit packs which you can throw (instead of drop) and it would explode and a burst of aoe regen/heal to allies. Tossing elixir H would be too random since you might not get the regen at all.
The human female T1 engineer cultural armor looks sort of okay but nothing too spectacular or “wow, that’s so amazing” about it.
I just remembered this steam punk TV web series called “Riese: Kingdom Falling” that was on syfy a few years ago. I want to see some leather steam punk style armors like these (although long sleeve style, and less skin showing would be better). Or have both options available (long and short sleeve style) should be good too.
I sooo want the goggles…looks so amazing. The leather belt looks cool too. But yeah, form fitting leather would be something I’d like to see.

The noble coat looks pretty good and incredibly steampunky on your male tree. Assuming it looks pretty much the same on the rest of the human shaped models. The female noble coat doesn’t look that great. It’s a little too fancy and thematically isn;t something that someone working with explosives and chemicals and stuff would wear. Way too much exposed skin. I personally haven’t liked most of the chest pieces for the medium armor. Most of them don’t feel very engineery. Only exceptions really being the crafted (probably?) Leather armor set and the exotic Karma coat.
Some of the styles I had on hand for reference:
1. Pirate
2. Noble
3. Crafted Leather set
4. Seeker
5. Item description says “Stalwart’s Jerkin” think I got it as a story mission reward, might also be karma gear.
6. Low level karma or lvl80 rare “Jacket”
7. Karma exoticAnd since I forgot it in the big pic the last one is listed as “Mending Jacket” and that one I know was a story mission reward. Probably from retaking Claw island, or somewhere around there in the story.
The #6 one looks like rogue armor – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rogue_armor
That jacket looks all right, a bit too long though…and the shoulder pads design could use some work.
And yeah, I agree. I think the female noble set is the closest thing to steam punk but looks just way too classy for you to be doing engineery stuff like wielding guns, grenades, bombs, elixir gun, flamethrower, etc.
(edited by EllyBean.6485)
Yeah, I totally agree. The medium armors, while some of it looks good (I viewed your character’s armors above), it doesn’t look good on ALL races and genders.
Like I said, the male armors look much better than the female ones – especially human male armors vs. human female ones. I just wish Anet invested some time into making some steam punk style armors and made it so it would look great regardless of race and gender.
Just to clarify, I never said anything about wearing cybernetic suits. Some nice images of steam punk clothing can be found in Google images. I meant steam punk 19th century British Victorian era style clothing, with a steam punk form fitting leather twist to it (hence the hybrid trench coat-heritage armor comment)…and no leather steam punk skirts please, haha.
And yeah the Sorrow’s Embrace looks okay, especially for males but for females, not as much. :/
See, the other professions have very nice armors to it, hence why they don’t complain at all. I played other professions and often wondered why theirs look amazing and why medium armors that engineers wear just doesn’t look right. Only exception to this is the light armors, where you see a number of people complaining about how skimpy their female elementalist/mesmer is, and that they should add better light armors that isn’t as revealing but that can be found in an entirely different thread under Suggestions…
Anyone else think that the medium armors that engineers can wear are ugly?
I wish Anet designed some REAL armor sets for the engineer because currently, my human female engineer either looks like ninja or pirate with a big gun when I wear medium armor, or an explorer working up in the north pole with those ugly puffy looking exotic medium armor coats. The crafted rare medium armor sets that huntsman can make, that noble set look okay but it just doesn’t look nice wearing a noble suit, holding a rifle and throwing grenades everywhere (a suit and backpack does not go well together)…just looks out of place…it makes me look like I’m on my way to a masquerade party. I just can’t take that profession seriously wearing that lol…I mean, don’t get me wrong, noble armors somewhat incorporates a steam punk aspect to it but maybe make it look like I’m ready for battle and not look like I’m about to go to a wealthy/classy masquerade party.
Since we’re a gadget-y type of profession, I wish there was a battle-ready steam punk style armor set made just for engineers.
The current armors either make me look like another profession (like thief or ranger) or makes me look fat, as if I’m wearing an oversized jacket. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is the cutting of the armor needs work. It’s either too long, too baggy/big or a combination of both. Medium armor sets just doesn’t look good on every profession.
I say design 1-2 nice looking armors per profession. Some trench coats are nice but rather long (a little too long if you ask me) and the gloves or shoulderpads are generally NOT nice-looking. The male armors almost always look better than the females. I like the length of the heritage medium armor, maybe something along the lines of that kind but make it a hybrid trench coat (made for fighting/battles) of some sort (not a trench coat but something that incorporates the heritage armor and steam punk genre)? The heritage armor makes me look like a ranger with a gun but whatever, it is much better than the crafted med armor sets you make as a huntsman.
P.S. – I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing the tier 3 cultural human medium armor. It just doesn’t go well with my engineer.
Agreed. I don’t want my human female engineer to look like a ninja or pirate with a big gun when I wear medium armor…and certainly not an explorer working up in the north pole with those ugly puffy looking exotic medium armor coats. The current armors either make me look like another profession (like thief or ranger) or makes me look fat, as if I’m wearing an oversized jacket. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is the cutting of the armor needs work. It’s either too long, too baggy/big or a combination of both. It just doesn’t look good on every profession.
And for the light armors, they look too revealing. Not everyone wants their elementalist to look like a playboy model wearing a bikini.
I say design 1-2 nice looking armors per profession (not by type of armor, like light, medium, heavy). For engineers, they would look spectacular with steam-punk style medium armors, it would go well with their pistols or guns. Some trench coats are nice but rather long (a little too long if you ask me) and the gloves are generally NOT nice-looking. I like the length of the heritage medium armor, maybe something along the lines of that kind but make it a hybrid trench coat of some sort (not a trench coat but something that incorporates the heritage armor and steam punk genre)? The heritage armor makes me look like a ranger with a gun but whatever, it is much better than the crafted med armor sets you make as a huntsman.
P.S. – I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing the tier 3 cultural human medium armor. Just saying.
Personally, I think they should make contacts show up on the mini-map as well for PvE, maybe as lime green units to contrast from the party-member light blue.
Yes! I love that idea too!! That would help a great deal when trying to figure out where on the map/mini-map your friend is!
I couldn’t find a thread on this so I decided to create this and hope that everyone who has suggestions could also post here too.
I know the event isn’t over yet but I wanted to post these few suggestions down before I forget. I will probably post more after the event ends.
-Bell Choir event – very fun, took 1-2 games to figure out that it was essentially guitar hero on the keyboard, perhaps better visual instructions to explain this since every time I go there, there’s always a few asking on map chat how to do this. Also, the pitch is one note off (I have perfect pitch)…the 1 key (supposedly the C note) is actually the D note if you can hear and recognize musical notes. If it begins on the D note, it should say D, not the “Do” or C note.
-Choir Bell – should have a longer duration like tonics, maybe 10 minutes. You can only play a limited number of songs. I kind of wish it extended up to 2 octaves and as a chromatic scale (includes semitones, e.g. C-sharp, D-flat, etc.) since it was hard to play a tune that didn’t have any sharps or flats in them.
-Tixx dungeons – they were fairly short and self-explanatory and most of all, I find them very fun. I love the voice acting too, very well done. The chest in the end was icing on the cake. I love the toy frames and the chance to make minipets or endless tonics. I only wish that gifts you open had a higher chance of wads of stuffing or drops of glue since the price of those mats were too high. Also appreciated that you can trade ugly socks/sweaters/hats for toy frames for those who missed it or were unable to log on that day due to real life commitments.
-I enjoy the random pop of box presents that fall from the sky in explorable areas. The random foes you had to kill was not too bad (plush griffons, toy soldiers, dolls, skritt). Only thing I found tough was the doll casting confusion on you, it made everyone I know afraid of those scary things haha.
-Wintersday skins from gifts – would be nice, in addition to weapon skins, you get some wintersday armour skins (like wintersday outfits but different from gem store).
-Also, a big thanks to Anet for allowing us a chance to download the guild wars 2 wintersday music soundtrack for free on soundcloud, I’ve been listening to it every day! I absolutely love the music!!! Best christmas present ever!

I sometimes zone to a different area and occasionally stand next to my friend while saying, “Where are you?” Sometimes you’re busy running by and don’t see them, and they wonder why you ran past them.
I would like to see something similar implemented – like when you are part of a party or guild, the person’s name is in a different colour. For example, when you are in a guild, you see every representing guild member’s name in gold if they’re on your screen, and blue for people in your party.
Maybe for friends, it could be neon green or orange coloured? Of course, if they’re also in your guild or party, those override the friend colour. Maybe in order of importance: party > guild > friend.
And of course, to prevent people from stalking you or abusing this, this would only work if both parties added each other as a friend…so person A and B would have to add each other as a friend to work. If person A added person B as a friend, but person B didn’t do the same, it won’t work.
Wow, that’s just brutal. Sorry to hear about your CD troubles. I was actually thinking of ordering the 4-cd soundtrack sometime next month (I’m very lazy and forgetful) but after reading that, maaaaybe I’ll change my mind. This is probably the only time where being lazy and forgetful is a good thing.
I wish Anet sold the soundtracks through Amazon, they’re reliable and I never had any problems with them, plus they’re already selling the GW2 game anyway, why not the soundtrack. I don’t own any apple products or have itunes so downloading it from apple is honestly never going to happen.
This also happened to me again when I did the shiny apple quest in Queensdale, if you run towards an apple and pick it up, you don’t stop running…and I noticed there is a thread on reddit regarding this bug so at least I’m not alone!
I thought it was just me being careless and pressing “r” key when I usually run towards loot and pick it up using the “f” key, but this has happened so many times that I don’t think it’s me! Soo..I decided to pay attention to the keys I pressed when looting…I noticed that if you run towards your loot, and then pick it up along the way, you will automatically auto-run forward without stopping. I tried to stop myself from running with no avail, it took a few seconds of doing a U turn before I had full control of my character again.
This is especially dangerous when you want to loot something near a dragon, champion or veteran boss, and then run off to a safe distance to resume killing the thing. Instead, I would run straight to it, and almost get myself killed in the process because I couldn’t stop running. I had no control over the running…wasn’t fun at all.
I enjoyed the 3 day event overall. Just some comments and suggestions to improve on future one-time events like this.
PROS:
- Three day weekend event, there was a fair amount (not overwhelming) of quests you could do and it was manageable and in areas where low-level characters could reach.
- Fractals dungeon – fun, fun, fun!
- Southsun Cove – new exploration area, new critters to kill, nice drops (e.g. level 400 crafting mats), I enjoyed the new crafting materials and recipes you added to the game.
- Karka hatchlings latching onto your face – that was totally hilarious, it reminded me of the movie Alien, and I screenshot myself being latched on.
- Events in Southsun Cove – the events were not too bad, I enjoyed the one where the npc needed karka eggs for her omelette…her edgy unstable voice, dialogue, and appearance was hilariously creepy and I totally LOL’d for a good few minutes. She’s so crazy! lol
- Ancient chest – nice rare and exotic loot, I was not expecting to see them drop, was expecting some souvenir from the event, similar to the Mad King book, but after spending 3 hours dodging, rezzing and dying, I think some nice reward was necessary. It was a nice change and because it’s a one-time event, it’s not going to turn everything upside down and significantly affect all players and the market in the long-term.
CONS:
- Lag – it was fairly laggy during phase 1, and during parts of the Ancient event in phase 3. When zergs concentrate on a champion boss, my fps = 5.
- Phase 1 – Noll was bugged and I had to wait until the next day to complete it.
- Champion and veteran bosses shooting out that AoE poison thing and killing a dozen of players all in 1 go…not fun from a repair bill perspective. But I suppose level 80 bosses shouldn’t be too easy to kill so perhaps this is to be expected…
- Champion and veteran karka bosses – all players targeting this including myself, but when it dies, I always get no experience, loot or credit.
- Because of the lag, when enemies pop up on my screen, they are invisible and I cannot see or target them, but I see other players targeting some massive invisible blob. I don’t know if this is a bug or some graphics overload on my part, but if this issue can be resolved, that would be great. This has happened to my friends too so I know it isn’t just me.
- Phase 3 – I am glad this is a multi-hour event and not ones that last for <1 hour. That way, people who log in late can still participate.
- Players from EU, Oceanic and Asia – I feel bad for them because if they wanted to participate, they’d have to wake up at odd hours of the morning. You should set up event start times according to the continent/region.
- Ancient chest – it should stay a bit longer for those who disconnected, crashed, or died and decided to waypoint and run back (but missed chest because it just disappeared). I wonder if there is a way for the chest to know who participated, and won’t disappear until everyone has claimed it…or if it is able to know who participated and have not claimed the rewards, it disappears and automatically mails them the rewards. That way, no one will be sad that they missed the rewards.
Overall, it was a fun event and I was glad to have participated! Can’t wait for the Christmas event and I look forward to more events like this!

Overall, I like to thank the Anet guys for doing a wonderful job of entertaining us for Halloween! Keep up the good work, guys! Am looking forward to the Winter holidays event…
Just a few comments below:
- Act 1 and 2 event – Loved the scavenger hunt feel of this and how they took place in low-level areas. Also enjoyed the fact that I got a nice back brace souvenir (the book) out of this event (and might I add, a very lovely flaming skin).
- Clock Tower jumping puzzle – I’m not a big fan of jumping puzzles. In fact, I am terrible at it. It’s not my cup of tea; however, a fair number of people enjoyed it so I don’t mind seeing something similar in future events, as long as it be made OPTIONAL.
- Emissary of the Mad King achievement title – I love how you don’t need to complete the jumping puzzle to get this title. I hope in the future, it will be like this.
- Special Events achievement – I like how you put a entirely new category in the Achievements tab. I do hope you are able to re-name this to “Halloween Event” so we can sort of keep this since I love to keep track of all the achievements I have completed.
- Trick or Treat bags – For the crafting materials, I do hope that there will be more recipes in the future since it didn’t feel like I could use those for a variety of things. I wished I could use them more, or to discover new recipes without having to purchase a recipe myself.
- Mad King Thorn – I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE VOICE ACTOR WHO DID HIS VOICE! IT WAS PERFECT!!!!! PLEASE BRING HIM BACK FOR FUTURE HALLOWEEN EVENTS!!! And add new jokes while you’re at it. (Also, I literally cracked up at some jokes, they are surprisingly actually funny! Kudos who the person who wrote those jokes!).
- Voice actors – I was pleasantly surprised that you guys took the time to get those npcs to talk (including the kid trick-or-treaters)!!! I laughed every time I heard the “ghost” quaggan speak, it never got old, teehee!!! I think it was perfect!!! I also loved those costume brawl announcers! I don’t know how you guys do it, but you hit all the right notes!!
- Mad King dungeon – Loved how it was all-levels, there was a chest in the end, and that you didn’t need to be level 80 to enter. It was quick and easy, and the dungeon was small enough you didn’t get lost.
- Mad King Thorn (Act 4) – I liked how he would warp back and forth during the event; however, there was a delayed time when he’d actually show up on my screen. Because of this, I can’t always tell where he is (he is invisible on my screen even though he was actually standing in front of me). I don’t know how you’ll be able to fix this (if at all), but if this is a common problem for a lot of us, perhaps you could make him walk back and forth instead next time.
Suggestions for future Halloween events:
- Halloween masks and costumes – I wonder if we will be able to use a combination of Halloween-related crafting materials and regular crafting materials, and make our own costume or mask! That would be very neat!!! Like for example, a leatherworker or tailor can make a witch’s costume, but to make a broom, you’d need a huntsman to make the wooden broom. Something like that.
- Emissary of the Mad King achievement title – I would love to see a cute pumpkin icon next to the title, so when people click on a person with the title, they see the pumpkin next to the text.
- 10-slot ToT bag – It should be account-bound. I had to sadly destroy mine since I have 12-slot ones and didn’t need this one (although the skin was cute).
- Mad King Thorn – I liked how he’d warp next to you, transform you, then disappear. I would like to see more variety in the transformations in the future – for example, temporarily transforming into fun things: quaggans, kraits, Logan Thackeray, hairy ettins, inanimate objects, etc.
- We need a “Ghost” and “Pirate” quaggan mini-pet (that also says those exact lines), stat!!!!! XD

When killing enemies, I often find it hard to see WHERE the loot is. I see bodies everywhere but have to randomly run around pressing F constantly just to loot because I don’t know where it is! The faint looting “magic dust” image which means there’s loot…it’s often hard to spot. And when there’s people attacking around you, there’s magic dust coming out of their spell so you see magic sparkly dust everywhere!!! Perhaps make it more visible, like a neon pink flame (similar to the guardian’s blue flame) being emitted from the enemy’s corpse would be sooo much easier to spot the loot! Thanks!
