I logged in this week to poke around a bit and maybe decide to buy myself an expansion, and lo and behold I find my decorative molten jetpack’s price has crashed because there’s a new random box that is dumping them on the market.

Normally that would be a buyer beware sort of deal, but I’m pretty sure we were told explicitly that this wasn’t going to happen.

To be clear, I always thought having exclusive content like that was a bad idea. But given that I remember getting a specific statement saying they weren’t going to start dropping again, it seemed the safest asset to keep around to avoid keeping gold and watching it devalue due to inflation over time.

It’s particularly galling that the new drops aren’t coming from a reward for content or the return of Season 1, but instead from RNG boxes. It would have been a little easier to stomach watching my net worth drop 80% overnight if it didn’t feel quite so much like ArenaNet just cashing in to my detriment.

What gives?

It’s funny you say that. My bf has been playing since gw1 day 1, and thought the exclusive content was cool and a sort of way to say “hey I was there for that”. He’s pretty bent there are these 2 memory boxes giving out things which he earned from the actual events. He drew the analogy of soldiers getting medals for campaigns they weren’t involved in, and after about 12 whisps encouraging him to kill himself, and getting modded on the forums, he gave up. I guess this is what the majority of players want?

On another note, re: net worth dropping 80%, I had gotten a guaranteed wardrobe unlock and got the sclerite dagger skin and was thrilled at how much it was worth (419g) and two days later, season 1 memory box came out and that dagger dropped to 64g. Two. Days. I go from being super excited I got something which is super rare to “oh, well everyone has a huuuuuge chance of getting it now FOR FREE so it’s not that exciting anymore.” Two. Days. I can only imagine how upset other players who have earned this stuff from season 1 got.

Personally, I think the items should continue to be exclusive, only doled out by wardrobe unlocks, but hey, be careful what you wish for, Anet will probs give it to you…

I think my biggest fail was my first attempt at the diving challenge from from Draconis. You’re diving a good long ways to a bucket in sulfuric acid. But here’s the kicker. Due to the fog, I couldn’t actually see where there was water… and where there wasn’t. So 40 seconds later and suddenly someone gets the fudge scared out of them as a naked female charr slams into the dirt face first at 120mphs.

My biggest fail is, I saw the ghastly grinning shield on sale for 300g, and was like aww I will buy that tomorrow, then it was 700g and I was like, I haaave that in guild bank, then I coould not pull it out because kittening anet nd some bs about goldselling, ps this is MY guild bank when I was the only member. So then I was like ohhh ok I just wait 24 hours to pull more gold.

Then it was 5 k gold.

And kitten everything.

TLDR; I could have gotten 3 shield at 300g and made stupid CAS$$$$HHHHHHH

to clarify, I have no issue with balance, just the fact that symbolically you are fudging all classes into a melting pot of potato bland salad so that in 2 more years every class will wield every weapon(except war) and have all the same weapon skills an all the same traits and all the same faces, and all the same places, and all the same spaces, and all the same races, and all the same kids, and nobody knows who the father is.

Most other games are trying to prevent it, and it’s not enough that Anet doesn’t do anything about afkers/griefers/trashtalkers, we’re now also slapped with that horrible unwanted victory screen.

The entire loosing party is dragged in to lay dead open for BM at the feet of the winenrs, and the winners are given emotes to do stuff with.

It’s bad enough already, but then the icing on the cake – every single emote is a form of BM. Not even a single way to pay some respect, no, “here here, rub that loss in and BM your enemy now! let’s leave a bad taste in their mouth so they will be less likely to come back!”

How does it make sense? What kind of sick joke is this? Who pitched this idea and who approved it for what reason? Nobody asked for this.

I have deep sorrow for anyone who started playing after April 2014.
You missed the golden age of GW2 and you will never experience it, even if they added things like OP suggests.

Some of the best pvp moments I have had is conversation with enemy players. Wether it’s a gg after 1v1, some slapstick humor, etc etc…

I remember I was running away from an enemy ranger at B on Skyhammer, and got to the top of the pointed ledge directly above the hammer gate, at half health, and he was like "Don’t do it war! and I jumped and died because I forgot I don’t trait DFA in pvp…

He came down to my corpse to tell me I had so much to live for.

INFACT the system you want is the wvw model and for that exact reason I want it gone. So many times I want to give shout outs to enemies who indirectly helped me or let me pass unmolested through whole zergs because… wel I have no idea why that time… but it was great. and we all /wave d at eachother, it was nice.

No. Partly because there’s not a single reward available that required more than dedication — something that can be expressed with time (as you did) or gold (acquired from years of playing) or cash (putting one’s money where’s one’s mouth is).

I’m a long time support of exclusive rewards in gaming, from “you had to be there” to “it takes some skill to get this”. But nothing on the commemorative sprocket list falls into either category neatly. It didn’t take skill to acquire these items; it took luck and/or perseverance. They weren’t so much “you had to be there” items either, other than ANet was still experimenting with the idea of “of the moment” content & rewards, so stuff appeared and disappeared all the time.

Plus a lot of the stuff (with the tonics being the main exception) was available on the TP (or via TP purchases of other items) for trivial amounts.

tl;dr I don’t see anything worth my getting angry about.

Everyone is correct about the items being rng drops, so you are all so casual about the subject.

But what happens when they come for your Liardi? What happens when they come for you Hall of Monuments rewards? You think they won’t do it?

I know they dont do it on purpose. But i dont run around killing trash mobs another player is involved in. Maybe if its 2:1 and the player has lost a lot of health. And the “not looting” is that they pling pling and run off without even being close to the dead mob. I know there is an archivement, but i dont think its that. Looting some hyaena isnt exactly worth the while.

Oh because nobody ever got a precursor drop from trash mobs

Noticed ZERO NOTICABLE DROP in any pve content, with sole exception of raids.
I can still run AC all paths naked, I can still solo Nightmare fractal t2, pve world mobs are not even a thing.

Help me understand why this is such a big deal.

Hey There! I would like to say that i am sort of a returning player ( returned gw2 again around September 2016 I think.) Throughout my time playing on this game after my return, I have not applied into a guild because i fear that i might enter one that is quite large yet it’s not a close knit guild. I am in the Tarnished Coast server and my timezone is GMT+8 ( i tend to be online a lot so i think timing issues won’t be a problem)

So as a fairly casual player, i am looking a small, casual international close knit guild . A guild that is fairly relaxed and open minded etc yet very helpful . However, i am interested in the PVE content as i will want to focus dungeons and fractals ( Not sure on raiding yet though…) and if the guild would also help in teaching for Dungeon/Fractal runs i would be very glad at that too

I am willing to help out a lot if needed for good of the Guild and I’ll be honest, i feel like I’m not part of a community since i am not in a guild therefore the feeling of loneliness is slowly but noticeably growing so really i kind of limited myself in such a key aspect in a mmo

I have made and kept several legendaries. My question is simply is there anyone else that has gotten bored with the skins? And while it’s easy enough to change the look back, is it odd to transmute them?
I enjoy changing the looks of my characters, and now I feel stuck with the legendary skins.

I have actually got bored of OTHER peoples legendaries. And this makes me want to make my own even less.

Completely no interest in making. I keep only for bl key gambling money. Legendaries are EVERYWHERE. Too common place.

Even the peasants have legendaries. My cousin Bilo has legendaries.
I cannot walk around anywhere without seeing one.

Where are the alternatives? The forums isn’t a place to vent, its a place to discuss. All the “venting” here is salty “boohoo the game is ruined” anyway. Since I love this game, I defend the changes, because I feel as though its not ruined. And unlike the vast majority of the crying babies that are upset about these changes, I’m being civil until someone directs their salt towards me. Someone even got so salty earlier to rudely PM me in game (then blocked me immediately before I could say “k”) Apparently simply disagreeing with some people is enough to be marked for childish behaviors.

I’m a long time MMO player, I started with the UO beta, though the original GW will always be my favorite, I’m a solid GW2 player since launch. But one thing I have noticed over my years of gaming…….

No one seems to want to have fun anymore. They are obsessed with numbers, averages, and metrics…it’s like the games have become spreadsheet and parser simulations that have very little to do with going on an adventure with your friends. The vast majority conversations I have had in game haven’t been about the world, the story or what is happening it’s all been about the math behind the game and it’s disheartening.

I personally don’t want another statistics class, I want to meet new friends and have fun in a living breathing world…wasn’t that what the MMO Manefesto was about?

Years ago a guy named Jack Emmert created a MMo called City of Heroes and he didn’t want to originally show the math of the attacks, abilities and blocks….he was pretty much crucified for it and caved, but I understand his reasoning now. I can’t be the only one that feels this way can I?

Honestly this whole direction especially with the new raid has me more than a little bit sad.
