Pity, I wanted to equip my 2nd ele with celestial, suitable for open world and wvw.
What else to take now? Soldier with some dmg items mixed in?

Uhm… well. Are you sure that you have tried every aspect of ele underwater skills?

For all I can say, compared to other classes, ele underwater is fine. Sure ingis can do better, but if I look at my thief in comparison… almost all useful skills blocked, weapon stuff feels not very versatile (only talking PvE here).

It probably just comes down to how you use attunements underwater. Fire field and blast finisher available, lots of cc, and also: dmg
For the latter: single target air autoattack is really good (close range), for ae you can use fire and water
(only earth is somehow lacking, I just switch in for some short cc, and out again. But thats ok, condition niche)

Seriously, ele underwater is quite ok. Just try to learn when to use what. Sitting in one attunement all the time wont do you any good there, especially if you consider how most underwater pve content is designed atm (e.g. bosses in HotW, no defiant, you can cc them permanently). So try to swap often, use you skills in appropriate situations, and you will do just fine.
I even have to say Anet did a good job with ele here, since you can do most all/most things you do on land, where over classes lose significant stuff (thief stealth?!)
Stacking might, dmg (single/ae), cc.
What else do you want? ;D

Out of curiousity, does the back slot count as armor or trinkets in such descriptions?

Heard celestial back item is pretty bad atm…

Mhm, now I that I have finished my blade back, I cant decide on the stats, kitten you march patch and crit dmg nerf >.>
They could at least tell us how exactly celestial will change

Why… oh why are they doing this? You struggle and make this backitem, and then you wont be able to see it most of the time when wearing a shield oO
Ridiculous. So if I should build this thing, rifle to go. At least that doesnt hide it.

But really… 1/3 of the weapon choices we have ? invisible backitem.
Wearing a kit (like >50% of the time) ? ugly hobo sack + clipping.

I’ve been thinking about giving my engi this new blade backitem thing, but well… as you can read here, there seem to be some issues (like always, thank you, hobo sacks)

New to GW2 and Engi. In need of some tips.

Since I also leveled my eng not long ago, heres what I can tell you about it:

For running around, use the trait “Speedy kits” in the last line and rocket boots. You can get perma swiftness easily as an engi if you combo this with med kit as heal (#5 gives swiftness, too). I found the kit to be the most useful for leveling, as you get a fast heal with the toolbelt skill. Later on you can learn to use the heal turret.

Next thing, dont use grenades befor lvl 60, when you can trait 30 points in the first line to get grenadier. I ran around with rifle and bombs (smoke bomb is your best friend when you want to do some melee AoE dmg). You can also use Static Discharge trait (last line) for additional dmg. Combine this with rifle turret, otherwise stay away from turrets while leveling.

I did this with power (later bersi) equip. You can also go the condition route (with double pistol then). Just try what suits you more.

In generell, do what you already did, try everything. There are some skills which might be a little bit worse on first glance, but if you find a way to use it effectively for your way of playing, thats better then using scheme X.

*note that this is just PvE/leveling advice. I suggest to learn your skills and possibilities in PvE with “easy” AI, and then later adapt that to PvP. It might well be disheartening to go against other players without much experience. But always do whats fun to you.

No wonder I failed to make it work while trying to let it stand around for the reg boon and an occasional water field to blast.

So, in the end, the main aspect of mastering engineer gameplay is to decide what to spend the blast finishers on. Heal, might, stealth, retal… xD

So, you all suggest to just insta-use it with 1-3 blasts as a ~20s cd (group) heal.

Mhm. So the “original” idea of turrets standing around and buffing cannot be effectively applied in realistic scenarios? Thats kind of… huh. Bad designed.

Hey there folks,

I just hit 80 with my new Engi and really started liking this prof after some getting used to. Now I’m trying to learn how to usefully employ her in competitive scenarios. While the diversity with fields + blasts, cc and good dmg is fine, there are some mechanics which just feel… clunky.

So, today I want to ask everyone here for some help.
The main point which is struggle with is the healing turret (mainly looking at PvE now, but the same can probably be applied to PvP). My problems:

- water fields are awesome. Yet, why isn’t the water field on turret use (not toolbelt, that ones fine) instant? Whenever you activate, you have to wait for the “spinning motion” of the turret to restart before the field activates, which can take about 2s. This just feels so clunky in actual gameplay. Not that having to pair your heal with blasts would be enough, no, you also have to watch closely for the animation to start, which lead to quite some wasted blasts for me today (but that might be lack of training).

- next thing, turret is deployed (and I’m waiting for the field to activate), some mob like 10m away does some random AoE and then… turret gone. Is it just me, or is the hitbox of HT pretty screwed? Whats wrong with that? Not even to speak of aggro caused by turrets.

So, I dont know, but having to wait 0 to 2 seconds for the heal to activate and the non existing survivability of HT makes it hard for me to use to its full potential.
Dont get me wrong, IF I can make it work, it’s great. But… yeah.

Now, what do you do? I’d be glad for some advice how to use it more effectively.

(What I thought about was just to build the turret and insta activate/blast it if need be, but that would totally waste the regeneration.)

I wanted to equip another char for fractals and was wondering what other eles run atm. What builds work for you there, and why?

I’ve seen a few elementalists in fracs during the last weeks when we are forced to recruit some randoms to our grp. Some were really good (often staff, which surprised me), more were quite bad (mostly because they wanted to be a cool d/x ele and died constantly).

So, I really need some input to decide on a build. Every constructiv opinion is welcome.

This. Not to take away from your thread but my 30/30/10 build became meta in the high tier scene. and will probably put out the most pressure possible IF played right. I will say good job for offering up a list of builds people can try though.

Well, maybe stupid question, but what exactly is this super 30/30/10 build? I always have trouble if people only quote these numbers without further explanation on gear/traitchoice/playstyle (of course, obvious to them, but not for the readers)… some links would be great

morning,

I just noticed something and wanted to share it here.

I stood at max range to a non-moving object (nightmare tree in twilight arbor). While I could damage it with the greatsword, the auto attack of the staff always produced “out of range” (other skills worked properly, e.g. iwarlock). I just stood there without changing positions. Both weapons are supposed to have 1200 range, so I thought this was kind of strange.

Has anyone seen this, too? Looks like a bug to me.
