The game just released it can be assumed they they are working on a variety of issues. Some of us still can’t get into the game period. Patience is a virtue.

I currently can’’t even get that far the client opens downloads for about 2 seconds before crashing.

have tried a bunch of different ways to troubleshoot, to no avail, i was on right before the launch and now cant access the game launch.

enough to make one’s get feel fuzzy amirite?

my heart broke a little when they silently stole away our ricochet shot on pistol for seemingly no reason other than not knowing where to put it in the new trait refresh lol.

Daredevil is supposed to address the multi-target viability but again that’s going to be melee we’ll c how that goes. during the beta it took a while to get used to but i at least see the potential.

The additional emphasis on dodge roll and the holy grail that is brawlers defense (daredevil skill) do offer some good defensive options that isn’t hiding lol.

as for non-elite spec-ed thieves i would say that GoT (Guild of…) is underestimated and shadow trap(ST + improvisation= ez 20 stacks of might) as an offensive massive dps boost is under utilized. As for defense i would say picking the right opponent to steal from…but that would be in a perfect world

Ranged Thief Build Help Advice Please!

Having so much in your condition damage is going to limit the effectiveness of your Invigorating Precision.

If your a “ranged thief” you shouldn’t need caltrops you would be better served with shadows refuge or ambush trap which would both add to your defensive abilities and offensive as well

would choose lotus training over bounding in which case you could ditch caltrops and (arguably) impairing daggers while still having the same utility. lotus also has better synergy with signet of malice than bounding.

would suggest either signet of agility (and spam louts daggers) or infiltrators signet to spam unload more often depending on your preference AOE or single target damage respectively.

I think it is safe to say just don’t play a thief in any game mode and expect to be on par with other classes. Somehow this class went from useful and dangerous to underwhelming and brittle over the course of a few big patches.

It’s not safe to say, one shouldn’t make general statements like “a class sucks” without overwhelming proof, thieves are fine if not great, i spvp all the time and solo dungeons. Whining like this sounds like a detrimental L2P issue. problem with meta is people need to be open to new ideas rather than pigeon holding themselves cause yea state of the game changes everyone has to deal with that.

Wow taking out low HP targets (ranger could do it too from better range) and decapping (but of course not being sturdy enough to actually hold a point) and doing everything but actually fighting (unless it’s joining in some other fight but the onus of skill is on the outnumbered side it’s obviously easier to beat someone up if you have a buddy helping you) Face it, thief is underwhelming and if it were great you wouldn’t be seeing all of these threads complaining about how unviable thief is or at “best” debating if it’s viable. No one debates over an elementalist’s viability. Some teams even take four elementalists. If classes were so balanced then why would teams like this be meta?

It’s sad that European rules require at least three professions, as if to officially acknowledge that class stacking of this type is overpowered. The four ele meta should have been a serious wakeup call to Anet’s balancing team, but instead they’re focused on introducing some garbage camera mode where you can’t even mouse turn.

I think the point of the action camera was simply so that you didn’t have to hold down the mouse button and that you can still mouse turn it just frees up your left mouse click.

i didn’t just mean mean low hp targets when i said vulnerable targets. you can’t give all the stats in the world to a character class that has near unlimited stealth resources. thieves i believed are designed so that you understand their weakness and have to play smart or get wreaked unlike a class like guardian class that has heals and def up the whazzo. if your playing a thief not playing fair is kinda the flavor sneak-up, set the field before the battle, never say die just invis away instead of too entangled into the fight.

I’ve never felt weak or underpowered as a thief (abliet you can’t win every pvp match) and shadow-stepping between points gives you a huge mobility advantage if you feel you can’t fight alone you can always regroup with teammates.

what do thieves need to be more balanced in the eyes of all the nay-sayers and dont say more dps cause a race for whoever has the highest dps stick is gunna break the game.

the point was to work towards just like when you were leveling up 1-80 if you didn’t see this coming that’s kinda your own fault as they explained this same w/ the mastries…

so many tears for no reason the point was to play the game

spvp isn’t even about dueling its about covering your objectives

Thieves still excel at striking down vulnerable opponents and covering ground faster and more reliably than any other class that hasn’t changed. every class has their strengths and weaknesses you just need to align your playstyle and strategy with what tool (class in this case ) you are using

i accounted for it like i said you will only get revealed if you hit a target so it can be done. useful absolutely. but not ground breaking as thieves have an abundance of stealth or escape options already.

i do wonder about the elite though if players might start to favor that over basilisk poison

Considering it does damage even if used in the right field you will be reveled afterwards, so it a great way to proc reveled training other than pointless in smoke fields. (unless u hit no target).

Daredevil i believe seems focused on giving thieves a more active defense rather than passive (stealth) which is in this case evasion.

Sword energizes with the evasion and mobility aspect

and both sword and pistol benefit from the interrupt trait if the trait has no cooldown even better. but the weaknesses are still going to be there for s/p (stands still to pistol whip) & p/p (single target R.I.P ricochet)

d/p & d/d are trendy not superior to s/p i assume you were mostly talking about pvp when you made your statement.

the final numbers on damage since damage is meta atm will determine the mass viability particualrly on Impacting Disruption & Driven Fortitude.

the damage on dodge also gives a way to deal damage while waiting or initiative to recover

I personally play a sword thief and Solo dungeon run on a regular basis preferring it greatly over other mainhand choices. I also pvp a fair amount w/ s/p (that being said i have 3 differently spec’ed thieves)

Firstly the challenges in HoT have not been truly revealed so there’s no way to actually answer you question in regards to that.

How much or little damage the staff will do in also similarly revealed until the game is released (data mining doesn’t count as numbers are not finalized)

I will also say you should just play what is FUN for you screw the numbers especially if you don’t play in a competitive formats

Enough with the negative i will try and answer your question now…

in a nutshell sword is for mobility and interrupts and as you mentioned before hitting larger numbers of opponents

Infiltrator’s Strike
- gets you in and out of danger / AoEs with ease can be combined with other Shadow-Step abilities to move further faster than any other class.

Pistol Whip = evasion + good damage
- if you have used this skill with Signet of Malice you might not need to have asked this question

Considering some of the New HoT Traits & Skills

where dagger & pistols look more towards stealth Sword has always had evasion built more solidly into it’s mechanics no disrespect towards deathblossom

i would say take a look at some of the synergy with the following regarding Sword thief + HoT. daredevil will just further complement sword evasion and mobility at the cost of stealth.
