WvW gets hero points with ranking up. You get some “coins” that you turn in, which unlocks a random hero point location in HoT.

I got 39 of these during a decent zerg run in one night (although I had a birthday booster going.)

Edit: I have not tried EOTM yet, but you should rank up the same in EOTM I would think. Also apparently the coins are account bound, but they come in a chest that you can store and open on another toon apparently (havent tried this yet either).

So I have to grind for a long time just to access their most advertised feature of the expansion…?

Besides doing old content, is there a way to get a bunch of hero points at 80? Or am I going to have to sift through old content and grind?

What about for utility skills?

1) In PvE, you generally want to roll Berserker.
2) Do you have Heart of Thorns (and thus access to Reaper) or not? You pretty much always run Spite in PvE. If you have Reaper, that’s your third line anyway and the second line would be Soul Reaping, Death Magic or Blood Magic, depending on if you want pure DPS in a group setup, a self sustaining build with some minions or support your team with life leech and the ability to prevent your downed partymembers from bleeding out and having access to other useful stuff like teleporting downed party members to your location while healing them a bit. If you don’t have Reaper, Soul Reaping is generally your third line and Curses takes the place of Soul Reaping in the second line.

Traits I usually use for each of those lines are

Spite: Spiteful Talisman – Rending Shroud – Close to Death
Curses: Chilling Darkness/Plague Sending – Master of Corruption/Path of Darkness – Weakening Shroud
Blood Magic: Blood Bond – Vampiric Presence – Transfusion/Vampiric Rituals
Death Magic: Flesh of the Master – Deadly Strength – Corrupter’s Fervor
Soul Reaping: Speed of Shadows/Unyielding Blast – Vital Persistance/Spectral Mastery – Either of the three Grandmaster Traits, though Foot in the Grave is used mostly for skipping, though it does have uses outside of that.
Reaper: Chilling Nova – Decimate Defenses – Reaper’s Onslaught

That’s pretty much a baseline when it comes to traits, you’ll have to see what works best when and change up stuff whenever needed. Also, just because I didn’t list a trait doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad/not useful.

3) If you have Reaper, Greatsword and Dagger/Focus work well, if you don’t have it, replace the Greatsword with Dagger/Warhorn. I sometimes like taking staff with me due to what it offers, but that’s mostly me I guess. In general you want to be able to keep a full set of weapons you can use because you never know when something might prove to be useful (though I have to admit that I don’t think I ever touched axe lol) – If you get Scepter, you’d go with Sinister or Viper-stats (if you have access to HoT for the latter) of course, though I’m not sure which of those performs better on Necro.
Otherwise this is some great lecture to read. Spoj’s probably going to add the new stuff soon, but I’m not him so I can’t say for sure.

Also, in case it wasn’t obvious enough, those tips are all focused on PvE as I’m not much of WvW/PvP-player.

So I just came back and I wanna prepare for the expansion on my 80 Warrior. I just want to know what I need to do in order to access it? Like do I have to 100% the extra story or just finish the normal story that was with the original release of the game?

So I wanted to get some bags on another character that I had from a higher leveled toon that I don’t play anymore, so I mailed my friend the bags (as you can’t mail things to yourself) so that he’d be able to send them to my new toon. But as the title suggests, my friend gets an error whenever he attempts to mail me the attachments saying that he has to play longer or something. He’s currently level 21 so I don’t see why he still can’t mail them.

Does the LFG tool teleport you to the dungeon?

Hey everyone, Senyura here from Jade Quarry. Recently, I’ve wanted something else to do rather than farming my brains out for gear, when that isn’t what I really want to do (Especially as a Warrior). So I recently created a Mesmer, and it’s very tricky…but the more gameplay the better, am I right?

Anyways, would anyone mind giving me the possible builds and/or things to keep in mind when it comes to playing a Mesmer? Builds wise, I’ve seen people with staves and a Greatsword as there secondary set. Should I be doing that, or something else? What are the viable possibilities is basically what I’m asking. Plus, what tips would you have for a starting Mesmer such as myself?

The Double Axe + Longbow build is pretty uncommon, but I’ve had a ton of success with it in PvE and WvW with the same build. The Swirling AoE Axe attack is awesome in big WvW fights, along with the fire conditions that you can get off from the Longbow, you’d be playing a very deadly support technically. Uhh…it’s still like this and its been 5 days. This event is what allows players to get into a catapult to be shot to the top of a tower holding a Vista, and that’s the ONLY way that you can get up there. I’ve been coming back every 12 hours to check on this event and it’s still stuck, can we have some help here Arenanet :<?

Alright, so yesterday I made a thread about a GS build, but I don’t really like the GS + Rifle combo. I’ve been trying double axe and I can’t lie, it’s pretty good and I’ve been hearing it’s better than the GS by some.
So what’s a good Axe + Axe and then a ? build? The ? being the other weapon set that I don’t know what I should use. So please give suggestions for a good DPS/Tanky (If possible) Axe + Axe build, I’d really appreciate it.

Hey everyone, I just needed some help with picking a build. I’ve seen posts about doing something with points in defense because its just better for surviving, then some will argue against it, blah blah. I want to know what’s a good build for having good DPS with a greatsword, then the other weapon set I don’t know what I’d want or need. I’d want it to make me be able to tank possibly? What should I use for that and what should the build be to do this, and the type of gear I should be using? This is for PvE by the way.

I’ve been hearing rumors going around my guild that they’ve been hearing that legendaries might get something called “ascended stats” or something (I’m still new to 80, forgive me) in the near future. If they’re getting better stats, will the new exotic weapons receive equal stats to a legendary? I know that currently legendaries are really just a novelty-showoff type of item. But will that be changing? If so, then why? I for one don’t want to spend my experience in GW2 farming for months on end to get one item so that I can be “elite” as some would call it. I think that the way it is currently is perfectly fine.

Can anyone confirm this with maybe some proof of an arenanet dev saying this? Thanks in advance.

I’ve been farming a little bit of CoF lately, it’s pretty interesting and is making some okay money for me to go off of. Is the gear that you get from CoF trophies or whatever considered exotic like you guys were talking about?

This is basically what I was told when I hit 80: “Do dungeons, farm mats, work on getting legendary” .____. ;_;
I-Is that seriously what I have to do…? I mean like, is this not what I’m supposed to be doing? I like PvE, WvW, and PvP, so basically everything…but is this what I should be focusing on? If so, can anyone give me a guide on how to get my legendary? I’m a 2 Handed-Warrior DPS (Greatswords/Rifles). Please help me out ;-;

I agree with you slightly in some ways with how religious doesn’t need to be implemented into the game, but some games use it as a stylistic device to symbolize a broken society, or preview dark and/or sinister backgrounds of a society. Guild Wars 2 didn’t really use religion as much to do such as thing, where as a game like Bioshock Infinite used it PERFECTLY. Guild Wars 2 is an MMO though, it’s kind of hard to put a realistic sense of religion into a game like this.

Hey everyone, what’s the best class to issue a ton of DPS in both PvE and PvP? I’ve been hearing Warrior, Thief, and Elementalist.
What’s the best class for DPS, and the best race to fit it out of personal preference for the race part?

Firstly, let’s be honest here; Guild Wars 2 didn’t have kitten for the end-game upon release and for the first 1 to maybe 2 months or so. Seeing as I didn’t want to level in a game to where it’s all for nothing in the end, I decided to just go back to WoW. I also really didn’t enjoy the PvP that the game had to offer. It felt very repetitive and easy since you didn’t have to earn ANY of your gear. And the point of an MMO is to get epic loot and pwn some noobs right? (Come on, you used to talk like that back in 2003-2004, don’t lie x3) Well it just felt very…meh. Giving players gear just reduces the amount of gameplay, plus you don’t have to hit 80 to PvP, reducing even more gameplay since you don’t have to level if you don’t want to (Which can have its pros and cons).

But I digress. The game wasn’t too amazing other than the fun leveling, leaving out anything spectacular for the end-game. So as I said before, I left mainly just because the game felt unfinished in some aspects. You guys may have differing opinions, but I’m trying to state the facts (I’m not trying to be an kitten #8212;can we say kitten #8230;? Eh…screw it) without being rude about it.

With that being said, I will move on to the main point of this thread: Has the game improved over-all? (PvP end-game, PvE end-game, etc etc.) I’m more of a PvPer and still am currently on World of Warcraft (2K swag). So has GW2’s PvP gotten any better? I see some fanboys saying its more developed than WoW’s, but let’s be honest…GW2 didn’t have much to offer PvP wise when it came out. But has any of that changed? What about PvE? Are the raids/dungeons or whatever more challenging?

I’m honestly getting really tired with WoW. I want to join a game where there’s just as good PvP if not better, same thing goes for PvE.

Please be honest with everything. I’d appreciate leaving out the biased opinions that just make GW2 have an aspect that makes it better than something WoW has. Give me facts, I’d really appreciate all of the responses and honesty.
