Are we sure it is the matchup system that is THE Problem!!

The last few weeks have seen some removing of the fixed positions were servers were stuck in a tier and had no prospect of change. Anet have done what so many asked for and shaken this about.

From Yaks Bend perspective and my own for that matter The first 4 weeks of the change we fantastic for us and we had some of the closest matches in the history of the game. I know that other servers did not have the same experience and we experienced it when we played DB a couple of weeks ago. Servers like EB BP showed they were up to and as good as the servers above them and yet under the old system this match would never have taken place. You would think that the moral boost would have been good for their server and for their future but it has not been. Why??

Middle tier servers have continued to bleed players/guilds to higher ranked servers. Yaks lost a number to TC SoR . I belive other mid/lower tier servers have experienced the same thing. I admit I have an alt account on TC and have yet to wvw much on there as I still fight for Yaks. This is sad as you now log in and there is no one to play with at certain times of the day. A few months ago to siege up Garrison for the Kain zerg that would come night after night was fun 10-15 tops 20 often 6-8 would bunker down and hold to the last man. So from a personal perspective what is going on.

WXP:- A great addition to the game that should have been here since day 1. However that is why people play now. Not to defend or have tactical play just grab as many points as they can. Where can they get those — points on a higher tier server. In EBG where the turnover is greater. The karma train. You get my drift. There are threads that cover this posted this week. The result of this is boring play for the greatest reward. Zerg Wars the meta game has become. Stack Buff Run Wheel press 1 and pick up your kills bags etc. Not rocket science.

Little or no defensive reward. Spend 2 hours on watergate watching, repair walls do upgrades. We used to do it for the server now tell me is there any point. You get no bags or return. Whilst I enjoy that aspect of the game and have spent my money on gems to fund it there is little or no point to it any more. It amazes me that you read in chat when the zerg returns to defend that there is no siege/supply. What did they expect when they left their borderland that 4-5 would tap siege run supply all at the same time. Nevermind taking back the camps that were flipped by 1 thief.

Tactical attack. If you do the trebbing cata work sometimes for quite some time what reward do you get. 40 wxp when the wall goes down and if you are really lucky you will get rewarded if the tower is taken. You get more than this killing 1 player that you pinged with an aoe. There are no badges either. So why would anyone do it when everyone else is zerg crazy picking up bags etc.

The ability to transfer up the tiers which are already stacked and complain of skill lag what is that I never see it on a borderland only in SM in a three way fight. Why in the world were the top servers not be locked or it cost more than a new copy of the game to transfer there. It is easy to hide behind numbers and get the rewards is it not.

The release of constant mini games every two weeks now get your wings here!!!. Yaks is a very PVE centric and as a result our ability to encourage them into WVW has diminished over the last month or so. This has added to the general lack of numbers in WVW. It is not about fair weathers as we have always fought with the same numbers but our militia is very absent as a result. As mentioned elsewhere new commanders who we don’t know doing their level best to hold things together. Go to lions arch and you are in over flow in many other parts of the map for that matter.

I bought GW2 for wvw and since the second beta weekend have done very little else. It has been a blast but I fear that unless some changes are made soon there will be 6 maybe 8 servers to wvw on.

Reward Defense—give more points the longer you hold something. Give even more points if it is upgraded. There are so many things that could be done with the scoring system to change the game play. Bring back the fire to the game not just throw a crust of minor improvements to skills every couple of weeks in the pretence they are making a difference.

So be careful not to blame the matchup system for the current state of wvw there are too many other things that affect it more.

I don’t usually and you kind sir are normally dispassionate about your comments and I respect you for that. Your final comments however made me respond This thread only began to go south when your effort and deserved lead began to transpire. I do not insult Mags in fact the opposite is true. I am not aware of any alliance members who do not either. However your public image is such that the worlds perception of you is poor and that is sad. Your skills on the field are not seen by all. Alt accounts excepted. Mine is on TC. As for family it is a long way to the UK Africa and the States from Oz. I work as hard as most and play harder still.

So basically CD runs away repeatedly and can’t cap an objective until they have a 2:1 advantage and YB still stacks their whole queue on RAM/CL and runs around in circles with some stacks of might for the whole night.

Hopefully we roll a better matchup next because this is a yawnfest. Still no quality players. I’ll give 20g to anyone who beats me in duels best of 5.

See you can’t resist chest thumping again. I am having a very relaxed week. Tiers have very little meaning and stacked servers for the win. If you are bored re-run your last weeks matchup and re-read your thread full of cry cry cry. So don’t crow too soon you might get T1 next week. Also refer to the thread about why people don’t like mags. Your forum warriors give your server a bad name—-except for a few.

Here at Yaks we do the best with what we have and give everything. We spend time training pvers in the hope they join us more often. We do not expect to beat you (this week?) but maybe down the track an we will not loose sleep over it either. I like fighting mags you are worthy opponents but my expectations are that we give of our best.

So back to the fighting and I sincerely wish you well just stop denigrating other servers(no quality players) when you have the numbers. We have out scored you for the last 5 hours that’s my prime time (with a party of 5) sleep well and wake refreshed so you can zerg once more. Something we have no control over

What a matchup!! All 3 servers have played to their strengths and regardless of the outcome we have had the best challenge in the history of the game. I think the other servers are looking with envious eyes. It is likely that the 3 of us will be within 5k of each other by reset depending on SeA outcome tonight. Heaven knows what is in store for us next week. I tip my hat to everyone who has played a part in this great or small. We should all meet for a drink prior to reset or at least acknowledge we all ended up winners out of this. Good luck to CD Kain we should meet again soon

I think we can all agree the most awesome matchup happening right now in NA is CD, YB, and KN.

That’s the one shining success story of this system.

Not sure you can put this down to the new system.
Using the month prior Mags Kain and Yaks had close fights with around a 50k difference between 1-3. This in my opinion is a very close matchup.

Under the new system we lost Mags (strongest) and gained CD who have put in so much effort these last 2 weeks. Kain have bled some more numbers bringing them back to the pack. This is what you get when numbers balance more evenly but I believe the matchup will be decided on out of NA primetime performance where kain is the strongest and CD 2nd (burning the midnight oil).

If you look at the bottom of na 21,22 23 24 this new system is doing nothing for them. Something similar in EU.

As for the rest of you e.g SoS gaining points. Had they not been stuck in T4 (close) they would have been t3 and gained these points anyway. Unbalanced matches are not fun to play and fun is why we play it is not another work away from work

Issue with commanders...

I am a defensive commander most of my time in wvw. I repair the walls put up and click the siege. I take back the supply camps and generally try to support and back up the map commander. My Dorito goes on and off to gather a group around me then off it goes again. Whilst my group are doing all this everyone else is attacking and getting their badges. I personally get very few in this role. I have run almost 2.5k hours on this toon alone most of it in wvw.

On yaks bend we use a combination of guild voip and our free alliance/guild server. Most of the time we are organized and cross talking to everyone. I do not for the life of me understand what the earlier posters are on about except troll. I bought my tag with help from my guild and have contributed to other tags for officers / members who want to give commanding a go.

In my experience it is not the tag that counts it is the team behind the tag talking in voip that collectively tries to get the job done. My primary purpose is to gather a group hit and have fun for however long you are on. If a new commander is giving it a go I try and support him by whispers and general chat.

If there was no Dorito system nothing would be different same names same voices would lead the attack/defense because they have earned the respect of their server. All the tag does is shows where you are and nothing more, People are free to follow or not.

The ability to run as an organized zerg is dependant on sticking together, knowing your place in the group, knowing when and how to buff, when to push when to retreat, portal or mow the lawn. Without voice comms and a basic understanding of what is required a zerg dies. If you do it right you can wipe numbers greater than your own.

Most commanders run education events to practice these things with small guilds and unaligned players during the week. All of the larger guilds will support the smaller. You can run the Alliance tag when you own guild is absent or doing fractals and feel part of the server defending their homeland.

Most commanders place the majority of siege very often bought with their own currency. They are also some of the most active players in the game I usually play 12 hours a day on average.

Most commanders give knowledge and experience freely and explain why what when where at an appropriate time. Some things work some don’t today but it will in an hour or two. You have to listen to understand that.

On Yaks we have a rule of three. If a commander makes a call three others will support that call in chat and start moving. We sometimes make false calls in chat text as our friendly neighbourhood spies like to relay messages. Unguilded low level toon running with zerg or parked in a tower etc. You have all seen them and a growing part of the game week by week. So if you rely on text chat only you would think we are crazy sometimes. Often strange toons text worst commander ever when we track them down they are a spy from another server and in the citadel at lvl 3-4.

The things I hate about being a commander sometimes

People do not carry siege or supply. You drop a piece and only you have supply to put on it. Once used people do not go and get more but would rather peu peu the gate or worse still the wall. The difference between 2 and 4 rams can be the difference of a take or wipe.

Some call out zerg at nw camp. You deploy forces to find there were 5-6 try always to give numbers.

Watching the map and being a sentry is a no reward but vital job to do and get yourself an arrow cart and get a few bags or put off the attack.

Some port and defend and do it well but run off again before repairing up it takes so long to do solo

So before you complain about the Dorito and 100g please think what else it entails. I believe anyone can/should be a commander if they want to. If you think that you can do it better do so and stop your qq. However most want to follow and they choose who to follow—— a commander that earns the server respect.

if you are on Yaks then you are family first and we embrace everyone and will support anyone to do what is best for them and our family.

That does look very much like the Kain SeA group doing their thing. As a bender ( red )and oceanic player this is my prime time. Mags (green) may have a few more than us but not significant. I do not worry too much about it as there is little a small group of defenders can do except bunker down and hold what we can.

The population of the various tiers happened because of free transfers. Those that joined the trains to the top did so on the basis of wvw not pve and to wait until guesting was available was a great mistake. However what is done is done. No tweaking of a scoring system will change things very much. The servers with the biggest oceanic/SeA will do better. On top of this the wvw populations between the tiers is considerable to say the least. On reset this may not be so apparent but going into the week then 24 hour coverage matters. The only way to attempt to solve things at this point is to merge EU/NA. My guild plays both with no difference in game experience i.e. lag. The EU group that play on Yaks tell me it is just the same for them as Desolation. If this was done every server would have 24hour coverage and no more night/day capping

As we head towards the next reset what concerns me now is how long before reset will we know which maps we will be on or does it become a lottery whereby you click a map colour and see what you get. No planning or organization possible. For the most part I am a homeland defender will I know my map before the server resets.

Before we launch into the final week of this matchup (given the coming changes) I just want to say as a commander and guild leader of ToG on Yaks bend.

To Mags — You have always been tenacious in all the matchups we have ever had. Over the last few weeks you have covered the 24 hours better than ourselves or Kain. I have had such a great time having to face D/erp and Pyro. We have lifted our game to a new level and realize the day of the mindless zerg has long gone. I could cheerfully face you week after week and a 50k spread between 1-3 is truly close.

To Kain —a massive well done. You have used your strengths and coverage to great advantage. This last 24 hours you have shown what your core group can do. Your SeA power group has done you proud. Those of us that play Oceanic/Sea have tried our level best to keep you at bay.

As we get ready for this last week of the current system my we all fight fair and give of our best. We know this game is about coverage so put the bodies on the field and regardless of the outcome let us all recognize we all need to acknowledge each other and the great fights we have had and will continue to have into the future

Fair enough but the difference in getting the red one would depend on whether you are tier 1 or tier 8/9 I know there are some great commanders at the lower tiers that are worthy of it but if it is based on any numbers then T1 would get it very quickly. T8/9 might never get it. At the end of the day its the players who decide whether you are good or terrible and its their response that matters not some pre determined bench mark that says nothing about how good you are as a leader

I know where the op is coming from but 25k kills honestly. As a commander I am a long way off that because I do not zerg. I have teams repairing building siege. Doing sentry duty etc. The problem with most people is they do not read chat or better still are not in voice comms for their server alliance. If you were you would know what was going on without the need for a blue dot. Also if you cannot work out which commander has a reputation positive or negative then you must be mindless. There is more than the 100 gold cost to commanding —having lots of siege to drop-—-doing upgrades for no reward—-I could go on but well to post in the first place shows you have no real understanding of the expectations. Nevertheless you have your opinion but not one many share.

Welcome to wvw my friend glad to have you on Yaks. Dying is something we all do a lot of. Sometimes when we are outmanned but what the hell I go down fighting. Try researching your build I am no expert on the ranger but hey you need a different build in wvw than pve. I think you may be lacking as all your eggs are in one basket—-Berserker. I run the same myself on my ELE but death comes quickly to the enemy and me. have a look in Yaksbend.com. Introduce yourself and ask for advice you will get it readily. P.M. me if you need more info. on the alliance.

In respect to wvw numbers I think there are 2 things at play. I take my hat off to Mags—always worthy opponents. You put the numbers on the map every day by 7 days and deserve your points lead by tues/Wed. " Der ’(would not let me use last letter) is a great fighting machine organized and play as one with good communication. I love to fight them. Yaks has so much to learn from them.

Kain I feel for your loss of numbers. It must be hard during NA time. Yaks has never had a large group come or leave. The exception being our Latin American friends who are a force on their own. However your SEA group although not huge is too great for either yaks or Mags. I hope they stay with you they give you the points to keep you healthy.

Yaks has always been Pve orientated. Although I play 95 percent of my time in wvw The other guilds my own included ToG are Pve focused. Fractal Dungeons etc have there attention during the week. Winning is not everything when server jumping affects matches and tiers more than gameplay or skill. To play and have a decent fight is more important to us as a server. How we play over the weekend is balanced by other priorities during the week. It would please me to see more wvw every day but I have to accept what we have and deal with it.

Overall the scores reflect an even tier with good fighting and wins for each server at different times. If all servers were as balanced as ours then people would not jump all over the place. None of us has the numbers for t2/t1 so see you in the battlefield and may The Great Flame Lord be saved from the imposter arrow cart

It is sad to see a matchup like that. However it is not exclusive to t1 eu. Unfortunately there are examples all over the place. Said all along merge EU and NA then there is 24 hour coverage for everyone and restrict server transfer drastically. There is no difference playing wvw on na or eu . Ask any Australian about ping etc but it does not affect or stop us playing and without any noticeable penalty. Also give no warning just do it

taking a fully upgraded Garrison without siege just pew pew the door and in 30 seconds later. Even the mighty arrow cart cant stop them. This is apparent most out of hours when the opposing server can run round with 50-100 zerg against 5-10 defenders make them work for the map.

The way I see it

It is left to the very few to fix and repair after an attack. I spend hours each day doing this. I previously got no reward for running to north camp and returning to garrison. What I get now pales into insignificance compared to running with the zerg. All to often it is the zerg that drains the supply not the repairers. Leave us with the crumbs off the table at least. Defenders watchers and siege builders get very little in this game yet the zerg soon complains if nothing is built. There is an assumption that someone else will do it but it is too lowly a task for the almighty zerg to put a few seconds into. Get over it and leave us with a small reward for fixing the stuff you did not leave scouts in to watch and call out.

I truely feel for any server that loses a core group of players to transfers. I remember however the absolute stomping ( spawn camped at every exit for a week) we got from kn when they had the massive influx. Do not know how things will pan out next week theory fighting not my style. However I am sure Mags and Yaks would love some payback.

This is just my personal opinion and despite it I will fight for Yaks every second of every day that I can.

First I should point out that I am a defensive commander and since the last patch and the new points system there has been little point in upgrding and or defending points, The zerg rules the map and whoever has the numbers wins.

When you get to SEA time well what can I say 5-10 against 50. So even if you had fully upgraded you have no chance of holding. This is not a complaint and I salute the SEA guilds on DB who have been there for ever.

The only period that matters is reset after that the match is over—12 hours in so people just give up as there is little or no point in playing anymore.

For the first time I have made money not alot but on the plus side and have more badges than I need.

Mags when they choose can put the numbers on the maps during NA I salute you also
It is always fun to play against you

Any tactics are now very limited in this tier and that makes me sad for the game as a whole I hope they change its direction somewhat as we move forward.

I take my hat off to DB and SOS who have zerged all day since patch. Yaks too kept a zerg going but had no Alliance chat today so it was much harder to co-ordinate anything.

We never managed to complete 1 upgrade it was zerg take next zerg take next zerg retake. In 7 months have never seen this no tactics no skill just head to head. Sure I got badges etc and saved money on upgrades actually made a small profit. But no sense of satisfaction whatsoever no planning just guessing where to jump where the opposing teams had left. Sorry Mags if you come up next week no small groups so practice your zerging now and forget fight club wont happen if this keeps up.

Like a previous poster still no reward for trebbing for an hour if you cant run into a circle for 15 secs you get zilch
No reward for building repairing or anything tactical just zerg kill die zerg kill die will get very boring quickly.

Well reading through this thread and you leave out the obvious trollish remarks there are some obvious conclusions that can be made.

I will preface by declaring that I am a proud Yaks Bender. We have played Mags alot prior to their pop increase and once after. There is no doubt that the old Mags loved their small groups and were good at it. TC for whom I have the utmost respect as a server gave us a hiding 3 weeks in a row. We hung in there as best we could but the combination of numbers coverage zerg and small groups won them our respect. The new Mags steamrolled us with numbers for a week. In the posts of that week the small groups section still were there but were not as effective as their zerg. I suppose they did not need to be.

So T4 any combination of Yaks/Mags/Emery/Crystal make up a good group whose matches will be reasonbly close. There is much more opportunity for small groups of 5/10 to make a significant difference. This makes for fun playtime and the sense that I or my small group contributed to the final result.

Moving to t3 the zergs are bigger the nature of the zerg has progressed as we experienced last week and learnt from. The opporunity for small groups to make an impact is reduced but not negated to the overall outcome. The coverage of a t3 server is much better and this impacts on aspiring t4 to t3 servers. The game starts to feel like a war of attrition and unless you have dedicated wvw players then it for some just gets to boring and not fun. It starts to become a second job but I know some people like this alot.

The further you go up the greater coverage you have to have. I thought kain had the numbers to go to t1 but obviously they dont yet. Wave after wave of them cleaned us up. So there is a problem as far as each tier is concerned. It not about skill on an individual basis but rather group and zerg composition and the best use of resources. The more dedicated wvw players have the more likely they are to be in a higher tier.

So were do we go from here. Mags/Yaks change places every week or do we manipulate the scores so we have more even matches. Mags you have too many for t4 so that becomes a walk over yet in T3 I dont believe you show your best. I am not privy to the inner workings of your server only you can answer that. I respect you as a fighting server and am just bemused by the outcome this week but more so by the outcome 2 weeks ago when you were in T3. TC you know the respect we have for each other and when the shuffling of the upper servers is over you will be back on an even keel again. We may see you next week or not as the case may be but we will give of our best but our coverage is sadly lacking since the move off yaks to tier 1.

I know that wvw has lost some of its shine and with the transfers even with gems are still taking place on too regular a basis. It boils down to the type of gameplay you want rather than wvw per se. I was thinking if every wvw player transferred to the same server we could all be t1 and tic 695 all week and claim to be the best there is

I hear you my friend but please define what a zerg is on my server it is less than 20 and less than that at certain times of the day. We may have 8-10 on the whole map. Tactics reduces zergs and thats up to the alliances to organise that. However if you are on a high populated wvw server zergs will rule the day and they can still have 10 at each camp tower etc

I play t4 on yaks. This week as most weeks at t4 the matches are pretty even which is not always reflected by the score at the end of the week. During the open season of mass transfers we saw wild swings in wvw populations on particular servers. People moved for many reasons but many also moved to a server moving up the ranks fast. Now that you have to pay people do not move and if they do not like where they are they stop playing. I have fun every day CD and Emery have always been a good matchup. I personally dont want to move to T3. We were there against TC who took us apart and the fun factor dropped but we fought with all that we had. It became like a second job and not something I do for play. We currently dont have the population coverage to go up at the moment . If the time came that servers were based on wvw pop and not total pop things might change. Currently you can move to any server even JQ at any time of the day (maybe not at reset)

Those that joined the bandwagon teams are where they are and the likelyhood of significant changes is much less. Guilds are not going to move holus bolus now. Therfore it is hard to see any balancing being achieved now. So unless people pay to move nothing can will change and even then 1 will not make a difference.

You are just going to have to accept that this wvw is a game of numbers if they are higher or lower than yours 24/7 you are going to loose or win based on that. I feel sry for the na tier 8 situation but cannot see a way out of it without positive discrimination towards those servers from new players

In my opinion this will do nothing to stop a zerg. Already as previous posters have indicated to send in a group of 4 to take down cannons oil etc is common at all tiers. The difference is the number stood in the wings waiting building golls or ready to drop seige. Now we can hit the door straight up with 24 without swords 4 omega golls and we are in. There would be no time to respond from any part of the map waypoint or not. To have a 50 man zerg at reset might be the only time I see one the rest of the time in t4 it would be 20. I said in the forum yesterday I am a defending commander on YBBL. We have a small but dedicated crew who give their time to defending watching upgrading etc. For this they get no rewards at all. Under the current gameplay you only get rewards for killing taking stuff and defense when you are attacked. I ask are you going to spend 4-6 of your social hours stood in a position just watching for no reward. Some do but very few. This will increase the zerg at lower tiers not decrease it. Where currently we would do things with 5-8 now we can use 24 without detection. This is a backward step indeed. However I will get more rewards zerging around will I not

I think there are guild groups out there that do a fantastic job but I inclined to agree that the pugs militia who lock onto a given commander do the best job of all. They bring with them the collective skills of their own big and small guilds tinto a cohesive group.

Yes mate you make some valid points but if it were that simple i am sure that is how it would be set up. Please consider:-

The Zerg if it runs from place to place map to map and just takes camps towers keeps etc but can port at a moments notice to defend I can partially agree with you. However when i upgrade fully a keep such as hills and run supply protect yaks to do it never mind the cost—just buy more gems. Do you not think there should be benefits to that. If you could not port then why build in the first place why take hours running yaks and retaking camps. So its not as simple as you make out

Door tagging mmm if no tag then people would be forced to sit in a tower keep for hours doing nothing at all. Having enough players to spend their playtime just watching is hard enough now without needing 10 plus in each place when nothing is happening. I politely ask if you would be willing to do this all evening. There is enough paranoia about white swords from the quaggins than the orange swords. If you need to get people off your homeland just go hit their garrison with 10 and watch your homeland become peaceful for a while.

Your final point about communication is the least and quickest issue to overcome We have alliance chat on mumble TS for our guild and I know what every team small and large is up to on 4 maps and what each commander is doing and why. Without communication its like fishing in a empty pond

I just noticed you are on JQ a great wvw server. Your experience may be much different on a T4 were numbers are not as great and the covering of 4 maps with not many is much more important

I admire you guys/Gals who have played thieves and really understand your class. I have a lvl80 thief that I could not or did not enjoy Pve or Spvp with. However in WVW with food and other buffs I found it too boring to play. However that is where I leveled him.

So any comments I am about to make are based purely on my expeience/observations from the other side of the fence.

I posted on the wvw forum my experience last night which to me is the core of the issue that most non thieves have with the class. Not for one second do I want to see the nerf bat thrown at any class. My ele Aoe after 3 seconds may hit someone or more likely I am dead before it goes off. Since the reduction to 5 targets nerfed me i am better to use single target for better results. The AoE is only used to take seige down

So that being said we took a tower last night In the mop up I found a thief who every so briefly appeared. Now 8 players plus arrow carts could not flush him out. We saw him gone puff of grey smoke gone. Now for those who know this was the sw tower on home map not a large space. He avoided all attemps to hit him. Arrows rained everywhere AoE spammed. We did not leave the tower as he is capable of taking it back solo. Eventually we sat down and out of thin air he joined us. Was a nice jesture and if we could we would of shared a beer with him. WvW is not always about badges

This is just one example I am used to being killed in 3 shots from a thief in less than 2 seconds and I just say too bad so sad and get back to the fight. When10plus players cannot stop one thief something is broken. I cannot blame culling as there was only 1 enemy and 8 players all in one static place.

I am sure from the thieves perspective there are many things broken not working as intended but the above is a partial reason why there is so much QQ.

Stealth is great so long as you can be unstealthed——not possible
There is no class for example ranger that can use a pet to find you
You are at the other side of the map where your house is.
Aoe does not work because by the time its cast you are gone

I am not here to winge or complain I hope like all classes there is an even balance and hope any bat swinging is a considered approach and increases the balance for all bearing in mind all 3 aspects of the game

Tell me a better way to link up with 50-100 people spend time achieving goals. To spend time laughing and having fun. Sure it cost you money if you do your share of upgrading and buying seige. However one night at the bar costs me more and then i cannot remember it.

I have one of every class but enjoy my two mains and I have been playing mmos since before there were graphics!!!
So again I can play a perma stealth thief its so easy but boring hence it stays at log in.

The one thing you got right was that people do complain about other classes and good developers look at this and consider remedial actions. The number of threads about thieves since early beta is astronomical.

If you wish to attack me as some sort of noob go ahead but that weakens your defense. To accuse someone of something without knowing their toons or what they play is just Dumb.

Go ahead give me your expert opinion on how to take down a thief or at least meat him on an even playing field. Dont tell us about puffs of grey smoke as I know you are two miles down the road by the time I can react to it

You are such a knowledgeable player that I am sure the whole community is awaiting your very expert solution. We can all then bow to your awesomeness

However everyday I play the game there are more and more thieves I wonder why that is. Please explain your rational for that. Could it be however that people know they are OP in some aspects and need SOME modification not a complete nerf. My Grandchildren play thieves as they say “no one can catch you pop” Now go figure- out of the mouths of babes.

There are no rewards for defending anything. You can spend hours keeping watch on watergate for what reward——Zilch nothing. So despite being a defensive commander and I do spend alot of time watching the map gates resetting seige 4-6 hours a session I get no reward for it whatsoever. Now if I want badges karma drops poor as they are (cannot understand why players drop beaks) you are only going to get them by attacking something. If in T1 there are going to be zergs everywhere by all sides. In T4 where I am they are there but also small groups doing many things that gain rewards. if 20-30 jump onto your map I suppose you could send 1 thief down to kill them all (but thats another thread sry) you have to send a sizeable force to stop them in their tracks or loose. This is war not some picnic in the park. Do I panic when I se a flag change colour no I watch and wait. Do I panic when a camp gets flipped no but in 5 mins I am taking it back. The definition of a zerg varies do you you mean 10.20.30. 100.
We get acused of being a zerg server but lol I wish sometimes I had a zerg to dispach. SPVP is for small groups WVW is for every conceivable use of manpower out there.

You are obviously a thief so of course they are fine but when we have 100 thieves on each map all perma stealthed this game will be great. No deaths but no kills either. They are breading faster than flies in a cow paddock on a sumers day. We all know which class needs attention when this breading cycle begins in an mmo.

We put down arrow carts and sprayed the place for fun did not make any difference. Why do you assume I dont have a thief. I have enough thieves in my guild who report accurately that they just do not get touched. I am not out to destroy the class but there needs to be a way to counter them and currently there isn’t. Alot of things in all classes cant be achieved in SPvP but it is WVW I am playing and until something is done to make playing the class my thief will stay at the login screen.

You know those quiet times when your group takes a southern tower back on your own borderlands. Well last night on Ybbl we took the sw tower back from I think CD. As I have missed it in the past I laid down AoE at the supply depot to flush out any mesmer hiding. We had the whole map so no one was in any rush anywhere else. I saw a flash of red for less than a quarter of a second. It was a thief. There were 8 or so of us in the tower could we get him never in a month of Sunday’s. Sure you could see him pop very briefly but was invisible all but permently. No amount of AoE could get him. So we decided to stay in the tower as the only way to defend it. He finally left. This is not a culling issue this is just wrong that 8 vs 1 and the 8 lost. The abilty to stay invis without damage from aoe is wrong. He could have taken back the tower on his own without interference or having to take wall door down is also just wrong. Anet needs to balance this better.

I cant agree more with the OP. Seige having to be continually baby sat is becoming a complete bore. In particular the fact that there is no indication that it is about to go POOF. Alot of currency is spend on this and its continual replacement throughout a long session is getting very tiresome. Also the ability of pets to be up on the walls chewing down seige is also just plain wrong. What is the deal here. Spent an hour fighting three pets trying to take out trebs at south hills. Kill them then they are back!!!! In the end I just gave up.

I understand the argument with having seige despawn over time but the emphasis should be on attacking seige and once the tower keep is taken that should go first. I found to catas yesterday that had been used several hours earlier still in place yet defensive seige gone before your eyes without warning.

It is not a good sign when these threads degenerate and use old arguments that have been talked about since the day.

There is no such thing as night capping. It is a 24 hour game and it is primetime somewhere in the world. Although I play oceanic I have watched CD Asian crew come on and turn the map their colour. I dont call that night capping as I am still up awake and trying my best to make them fight for everything. I think I would be more than happy if we had a similar group on the map but we dont and there is nothing we can do about it. Good luck CD.

However what we do do is to mitigate the ppt as quickly as possible. Some stay up later and some get on earlier and that has been in my opinion has been the major difference this week. So the length of time that there is a difference has been greatly reduced.

I personally think that all WVW should have been based in one centre. All EU and NA together. That would have given a more even balance for all servers. Before you say there would be terrible lag issues only worse let me point out that our EU players notice no difference playing with us on yaks as opposed to say desolation. They come becuse they prefer to wvw with us

As a result of free transfers server populations have been volotile to say the least. I feel very sorry for servers that lost so called elite guilds who felt they were better than the rest of their team and moved to tier1 2 or indeed 8. The free transfer went on for far too long. Now we are left with significant population differences that in some creative way Anet needs to balance out.

Whether or not any of our servers go up a tier this poulation difference will become apparant. The spread of coverage locks tiers so that movement is very difficult without transfers in. Look at the discussion thread about tier 8 , 1 server too strong for the other 2 yet that is likely never to change. I would hate to be in that state there would be no fun any week.

This week has had some great fighting both small and large. There have been many tales of winning against the odds. Sometimes I think we delude ourselves into thinking we are the only ones with small numbers. I can tell you from my experience I have jumped all over the map putting out spot fires with only a handful to back me up.

Camping the jumping puzzle now is that not something pvers do. It is very seldom I even go near the place. Why would you be there when your keep has no walls. If you do get a slack time I might consider it but more likely to jump map. What am I going to do with my extra 5k badges now get more !! I remember someone saying to a pver this week. He wanted a poi and before I could respond some came back with “see that green tower over there just wander over and get it”………“OOps I forgot to say take a 100 others with you.” To me this was a priceless moment.

Thankyou CD SBI for a great 2 weeks of fun I am sure we will have many fun encounters in the weeks months to come. At the end of the day if you have fun that is really all that matters. If you watch the score (all of the time) then too bad too sad it is not always going to be your way.

I think it all depends on what server you are on. Here on Yaks we have many squads roaming around but probably not as many as mags who specialize in this type of play. Being involved in a guild gives you the opportunity to find your niche. On yaks and other servers there are alliances which increase this opportunity further without loosing your guild identity. Then it depends on what tier server you are the higher the less opportunity and the lower the more opportunity. It is WVW so zergs are part of it but dfinitely not everything Just my 2 pence worth.

This has been in wvw since day 1. It is very easy to get in there if you know where to jump up the cliff. There have been many posts about it in numerous threads. I am really not sure if you can call it an exploit or hack. You cant really do any harm it is just an annoyance. The first time I saw it I thought the same hack exploit but it doesnt bother me now. Anet could change the terrain slightly if they wanted to. It is similar to getting into sw supply via the cliff side just an art of jumping. Avoid or kill the npcs and voila. Thats why it is usually thieves that do it as the avoid npcs easier. That is just my personal opinion and I have better things to do than waste time there.
