I don’t mind the bugs happening again and again I expect them TBH but they must find a new way to manage player behavior even if it means investing some money for the cause.
IDD so we all know this type of underhand tactic has been abused by other companies in the not to distant past. Not saying that is what has happened here but its never outside the realm of possibility.
Ill state it again…… temp bans, warning system and do not make the same mistake again/deal with it in a more constructive manner for the image of the game.
My other half wont even join the game even though she likes the look of it and its due to these situations, interesting how some people vote with their wallet is it not.
She wont give time or money to a company who who operates this way and in retrospect I would never have bought it either If I was aware this was going to happen.
I almost feel like I should email Anet before I play just just in case I’m not playing the game the way they want me too.
Zaziizu thanks for your response its good to know others are willing to speak up in a pragmatic way, what people need to understand is the points raised here are about the way ANet are managing their players as it does seem somewhat Orwellian.
You are the perfect example as playing TP is a a major part of the game for some players and why should it not be?
After spending time researching it seems there have been exploits in the past which were basically making people rich overnight and some of those players are still playing :?…. apparently.
As far as I am concerned this does seem like Anet dropped the ball and want to punish players now.
Roll back the characters, take the mats/gold you had issue with and give people their accounts back.
The only way Anet will book their ideas up is if the community lets them know THEY are the game and if they release more broken content we have the power to crash the market completely and cause a real hassle if we abuse it.
Think they would ban 10’s of thousands of players if we all did it?
Doubtful.
Mmm I fail to see how this is “at best debatable”. Infinite ectos is pretty blatantly a mistake if you ask me.
So why didn’t they reply to this thread and say so? Clearly even they didn’t decide it was an exploit until they ran the numbers and saw the effect it could have on the economy, so how could they possibly expect the players to know?
Idd Anet are protecting their literal financial interest in the TP with this latest move from what I can gather. A chap on reddit theorized the following and I quote:
“Whats the best way to freeze a very large portion of wealth in the game, put in a lucrative holiday recipe that the smart traders will notice right away. Refuse to give clarification when asked if this is a bug or exploit, or if it’s truly a cheaper recipe to make ecto’s.
Then wait a few weeks, and without so much as a world send out the perma-bans.
Freeze up all the wealthy traders assets, and watch the unthinking majority cheer and dance as they finally got the evil traders."
Great theory which I would give nowhere near as much merit if the players accounts were just temp banned with a warning issued accordingly.
I’m contemplating taking a break from Guild Wars 2. I’m not saying this out of spite that some good friends got banned for an at best “debatable” exploit, or because I’m scared that I might be next for something I’m not even aware of (yet?). No, I’m thinking about taking a break because I found the KOTOR games for about $5 on Steam.
Seriously though, at the end of the day, what is more important, the player… or the banned player? Come on ArenaNet, lets find a solution that doesn’t unnecessarily cut your player base!
Mmm I fail to see how this is “at best debatable”. Infinite ectos is pretty blatantly a mistake if you ask me.
Pretty simply really, Devs release broken content.
I’m sure some players who didn’t know it was a exploit just thought merry christmas and went along to make ectos.
Not everyone is that intelligent or clued up TBH. Anet owes it to its players exploiters included or to manage their behaviour and not perma band them.
When talking about company’s amending their behavior for their customers benefit. Macdonalds comes to mind for selling coffee which was too hot, yeah the customer could not have burnt themselves but in a court of law MD was hit for $160,000 for one single case of coffee being too hot. Because when they compared themselves to other coffee providers temperature it was found to be a little too hot.
It shows how much responsibility a company has to protect its customers.
Which other company have you heard of punishing people for using a service the company offered with no warning of it being illegitimate or wrong?
I can think of none.
Anet needs to look at how other MMO’s manage their player base were they this hardcore in GW1?
Roll backs, temp bans and a warning process are a must and a staple for most other MMO’s.
OK so I post this simply because I wish too vent and air how I feel about the way Anet and its code of conduct is being used in a very blinkered way.
I never exploited snow flakes, I don’t look to exploit or break things I just play games, nothing more nothing less…
So if I had discovered this exploit in game what would I have done?..
Too any player reading this what would you have done?
I mean we all like gold, right?
Is their any possibility that an innocent person would just salvage over and over again thinking that it was allowed due the fact it was in the game build the company have released to the public?
IMO I’m sure there will be players who have been banned who simply thought they found a good deal when crafting/salvaging these items then they rinsed repeat to maximize profit (Merry Christmas they thought maybe ;P).
Not everyone is a forum/reddit dweller, not everyone has played an MMO before and more importantly why for something SO important that potentially could have broke the economy did it take almost 3 days to be patched?
I feel as if ANET are using their TOS as a smoke screen to use when they drop the ball as badly as the players do!
Part of me wants to say this is why I have read so many bad customer service threads and comments running rampant in the land of internet suggesting Anet’s iron fist is certainly over rated but again I take much of what I read with liberal amounts of salt.
Let me paint you a picture, I used to work for a large Insurer for a department which was meant to combat fraud. Like any Insurance company we had T&C’s to protect customers as well as the company, but eventually this T&C document was abused to increase the departments profitability by declining peoples claims for any of the reasons mentioned in the document regardless of circumstance to most horrific effect.
It was legal but was it right? NO NO NO AND NO and as a result the department was shut down because eventually a customer went public and the company looked atrocious due to its behavior and rightfully so."
Now I am all for punishing the guilty however from that experience and working for that company I realized this IS why companies have these clauses so they have the right to exercise them and ultimately use their say to manage their own product/customer base.
This is where it comes down to ANET to manage a situation they very much created (via buggy releases which are standard thoroughfare for any vet) in a more consistent manner even if it means devoting more man power and money to the cause.
Issue temp bans and perform roll backs because lets be honest banning those accounts will do nothing to stop people exploiting in the future the only thing which will stop this is a more rigorous testing mechanic from the Devs end prior to release.
A certain percentage of gamer’s will always look for exploits its just the way it is so make their time worthless and roll it back that is it!
Don’t try and effect their wallet and unless they have been warned officially it is not fair to simply outright ban someones account.
As a community our finger could be pointed back and maybe you guys allowed this bug to be released to lure people in to ultimately ban them because a certain percentage of them will again buy your subscription free game and they will.
Another copy will be bought buy some of these exploiters and Anet must know this.
So banning doesn’t fix anything for anyone IMO. Its just a deterrent.
Apply a more human and holistic view of the service you are meant to provide because when a simple recipe causes so much controversy I have very little faith in the amount of due diligence being paid to protecting my personal information. This does effect ANET in a massive way as I wouldn’t buy gems because I fear my details are not in the hands of a company I can put my faith in.
TL:DR?
Anet should not just perma ban without issuing warnings first, I feel like someone hides their mistakes behind TOS then finds the most viable way (financially) to spin the fiasco which always up to now has resulted in perma bans.
Thanks and sorry any bad grammar.
Hello everyone! Zoose here, avid PvPer and GW2 fanatic! I’d just like to input the fact that there is a lot of negativity on these forums, and games tend to do or die from their communities. Let’s all be a bit more positive and happy about things. Your fixes will come soon, not everything is perfect, and things will fall into place eventually. In the mean time, enjoy the game, theorycraft, figure out some counters and play to your best ability!
I personally find that this game has an extreme amount of flexibility. At a top tier level this game still allows you to be flexible. There are teams that are successful running every class in this game. Don’t lose hope for your class. There’s always a way, friends. : ]
>Let’s all be a bit more positive and happy about things.
About what exactly am I supposed to be happy? Any specific “things”?
> Your fixes will come soon
Highly unlikely. We’ve been waiting for them since day 1.
>this game has an extreme amount of flexibility.
H@H@H@H@H@H@H@. Oh, I am sorry, were you being serious?
>There are teams that are successful running every class in this game.
On NA — probably. But everybody knows EU is months ahead of NA.Even tho I appreciate your attempt to keep up our spirits but the Guild Wars 2 future as a competitive game is really, REALLY grim.
TBF I think they have concentrated really hard on PVE since release and yes things can still be improved in PVE but overall the level of work and content we have received has been great.
So if the level of quality of improvements in PVE are anything to go by I would say this game has a very bright future PVP wise its all a case of waiting and being patient.
Games don’t become big competitive sports over night, it takes time and lets face it the majority of MMO players do have the time to spare.
Every build I use is SPVP/TPVP has a 49-50% crit chance.
Forget about your max health mate its irrelevant its all play style baby.
E.G Bunker guardians run round at like 18-19k yet I still cannot beat that bunker build in 1V1 because it just outlasts anything I can throw at it. But in comparison the build can’t do enough damage to DPS enemies down quickly in a 1v1 fight. So when the timings right I just shout for reinforcements and its over. While I wait for reinforcements I just try to get him to blow defensive cool downs.
Also that “hit” we are talking about being negated via 6k extra health could just be dodged TBH and voila you get that beautifully important crit chance IMO.
What class are you talking about?
Just to finish, I thought the balance was horrific until I learned how to play with more than one class. Doing homework on our opponent is just as important as researching your chosen class or how the numbers scale.
Have to agree with a majority of points raised in this post not sure if 1v1 will show the classes are unbalanced and even if they were the idea of embracing it is just that. Otherwise that whole “hai guys, esportz?” thing is out of the window.
As per title, I am done with PVE looking for dedicated EU players to progress with.
Condi necro main, shatter mes alt.
Interested but not pro :P
I would be all over that but I’m EU
Interested but not pro :P
+1 bumping this thread.
We should do this daily :P
/\ This…
Change the game modes – change the meta.
Part of me wants to say the first few maps/modes have been put together so balanced as to implement class balance easier at first, before making the modes more complex.
Ahh sweet conspiracy…
Its all about how they implement change from here.
That would be perfect TBH, just have it behind bag slots.
Wow does this but I think you can only recall one item a month.
Maybe they dont have the actual staff needed to manage that type of service? I doubt that though..
Hi,
Yeah I made a boo boo and deleted an item in error, Anet do not have the facility to replace lost items….
What if your account gets hacked or you buy the wrong item with the tokens you have spent forever farming? Anet the more people I talk too the more I see who have had issue due to lack luster game support…
Please look at my reddit thread and any users who feel the same please show support.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/13g13f/player_support_for_lost_items_aka_gfy/
I like the game after all, it just needs tweaking….
This is not to start flames also, please CC only.
Yeah 20v20 would be pretty ace, not sure how balanced.
Que 10 x guardian 7x theif 3x mesmer
I think people would still play other game types I know I would.
The idea of TDM and Capture the boulder sounds cool.
5v5 Deathmatch would be cool, I would like that to be the arena mode pretty much.
Well I’m not going as so far to say anything is completely broken, leaning towards believing thiefs are though :S..
Also why no straight up classic arena? Not hard to implement and provides more utility to pvp players.
wow, really? lol XD
Hi GW2 community I hope you are all well!!!
After about 1 week hands on into the game (which I am enjoying very much). I feel compelled too like others voice a problem we have found within the SPVP environment.
We NEED the ability to Que in upto 5 man groups to enter SPVP games and I believe there a numerous ways in which this can be established without Pub stomping raining supreme.
Current auto balancing techniques are way off and general can result in frustration, the current system simply does not work.
Please look at others games and I’m certain we can look to League of Legends specifically when thinking E-Sports. When playing LOL me and my buddies can level up in 5v5 even when their are only two of us. Which means we can learn the curve together and enjoy the experience more, then as a result we get better.
Can we in GW2 establish another environment in which this form of grouping will be expected and also encouraged outside of tournaments and WVW?
I mean what better way can you think for a 2 man team to become a 5 man team then play with people who are also in small groups? You could even indicate who is partied with who…maybe?
After taking the time to gather a 5 man team It wont be fun queuing for a tournament and then getting knocked out first round, which tbh is what I would expect quite a few new teams/players to experience.
So please, if anyone else feels the same please post it here along with any constructive ideas which we could put forward in an attempt to improve the current experience.
