Lady Astrea Mirage here! With one of the few ideas I had for a new Mesmer Specialization
Bard
“In medieval Gaelic and British culture, a bard was a professional story teller, verse-maker and music composer”
Lore:
Mesmers shoot musical notes underwater with Trident, in which I concluded they include music in their talents
This “Bard” idea works well with being a Mesmer too because of a Bard being a “professional story teller”, not only do Mesmers shoot music but they can also manipulate time thus making them go back in time and tell the stories of the past (….or future).
GW2 Wiki Trivia: “The Minstrel was a joke profession announced on the Guild Wars 2 main site, before shattering into a picture of the truly announced Mesmer.”
Minstrel: “a medieval singer or musician, especially one who sang or recited lyric or heroic poetry to a musical accompaniment for the nobility.” — So much like a Bard
Combat:
The new F5 shatter skill could be something that “Summons a Crowd” like a concert crowd, (or something less than that) that summons 5 immovable clones in an area in which allies can pass and enemies cannot; an obstacle that shatters after the duration. (?)
PvP
- If Mesmers are getting a new weapon, it could be a pistol or a dagger, making them something like Musical Assassins
And/or this whole specialization can revolve on “confound, disorient and dumbfound their enemies”, more powerful Shatters and more controls, Taunts? More options for Conditions perhaps?
PvE
- Of course we don’t want the Mesmers to go to waste on PvE, so I was thinking the more powerful Shatters (which is a unique skill to Mesmers, it would be a good thing to base this off that) would be the better idea, more effects or damage on shatters and traitable bonuses, maybe even a Musical Boon-thing they can do to keep the Mesmer on their team-play greatness.
+ Of course we would want to lose some of the stuff that Chronomancers can do and add stuff that Chronomancers can’t do, so the 2 Elite Specializations have different uses and are balanced which each other, a new specialization should be a specialization to Mesmers not a specialization to Chronomancers.
I’ll post some of the other ideas I have when I can tie them up with the lore and the combat

Idea on the hammer, like a Hylek-themed Hammer (Got this idea from VB people when we were doing the Meta and killing a huge axs Hylek) I don’t have much description on how this could look but a Hylek-head perhaps? (that croaks upon weild? lmao) with a ‘Frog-skin’ effect (like how The Juggernaut can make you look like metal).
And a Moa-warhorn;
I was thinking a Moa Sword (because I’m a Mesmer who uses Sword most of the time, and I’m running a Moa Guild and I like Moas really rofl)
but I think a screeching Moa Warhorn Legendary would be as fun as The Dreamer
It could look something like a Moa-head warhorn with feathers around your arms/footsteps…. and… imagine that screeching.
+ A Largos-themed Trident? an underwater legendary >:D
Unless you really wouldn’t fix the underwater feature anytime soon then I’ll just leave this here

As I was trying to use this ‘Default Build’ (Click to select a build) thing,
I think it would be nice to have a “Build Save” option or something where we can save our personal builds (with the weapons, traits, skills, runes, amulet, sigils) on each character and put our personal descriptions on it, just so we can switch from build to build faster and it would prevent us from memorizing 2 or more builds at a time;
Like for Warriors who run ZerkWarrs or something else, it’d be easier to switch without spending much time figuring out which trait were you using.
(This might be implemented already and I just don’t know it yet, so it’d be fun if you guys tell me if it actually is implemented already)
—“Check Metabuilds and just copy it” -Some people run personal builds and it’d be faster to switch from a Metabuild to a Personal build with a single click
This could also be applied to PvE
I agree a lot of this post (+1 OP), it affects much of a Chronomancer’s gameplay (as a Chrono myself), Mesmers (And Chronomancers) get a ‘subtle’ nerf every now and then. It hurts.
I have built quite the same theory before but I kept it with my friends and yeah, I love it.
We can get 2 Elder Dragons to fight together for a little bit of change and in the process, they can wreck havoc on cities, maps, etcetera…

Which can bring us to the awakening of Bubbles(!!!!!), Sure people will hate on underwater fights but we can make it → “Fight on Boat until 50% Health”, (Bubbles breaks the boat), “Underwater fight till end”, something like that -- and we can get buffs on the sad underwater skills and people might actually start to like it — Plus the Underwater Legendaries might be fixed too
We might also be able to get an “Atlantis” like Guild Hall, underwater but not really once you’re inside so it’d be a cool addition to this underwater feature in-game
Oh and Quaggans. Yes. Quaggans.

I agree with you but with some reservations and insights.
Phantasms are “the Mesmer thing” and I think they should be given relevance, As you said “they’re barely effective”.
Though I disagree on the aggravation-part, I don’t think clones should generate more than the player(s) and/or the phantasms because I think the idea is that they’re there for shattering.
If you’re going to look at the traits that can improve Phantasms (and clones), they are very useful BUT the problem is you can only choose so limited of these traits because:
1. There can be a better option.
2. They’re scattered in each trait line which makes it harder to ‘synergize’.
- I may be wrong but there are 7 Traits (in 3 (4) trait lines: Dueling, Inspiration, Illusions, (Chronomancer)) that improve your Illusions (Phantasms/Clones), the others are specific weapon improvement traits and the rest are traits that can improve YOU from Shattering…
- — The problem is most of these traits (5 of them) are in the Inspiration and Illusions Trait Lines, and these trait lines doesn’t really boost your weapon damage as much as if you would go to Domination and/or Dueling trait lines and with Inspiration and Illusions you’d most likely fall to Support if you want to boost much of your “copies”.
(And we know that the majority is not a fan of “Supports”)

It seems like the new meta now is to nerf mesmers in every patch until they eventually get deleted to the game and we log-in one day to have a choice of another class and a free total makeover kit because Mesmer is no longer in the game.
As a Mesmer since GW2 Year 1, It’s sad how we get bit-by-bit nerfed in every patch and getting narrower to build versatility — Get Meta or Get Rekt
(In PvP) Yes, you can experiment in different builds but the gap is just ‘too kitten high’, quoting ‘Vieux P.1238’ at a different Mesmer topic: " But no matter how good, you are, you are dead countered by other classes due to the awful multi nerfs mesmer suffered. Condi build with a descent amulet is the only build left. Like said before, no build diversity. & like i said, Anet kill them all."
(In PvE/General) – Other professions can do what Mesmers can, except for probably have Time Warp (but hey, Guardians have one too – just a little bit weaker).
Revenants and Guardians can do more reflects than Mesmers.
Stealth? Thief.
Damage? Probably every other profession since Mesmers can’t burst that much now and fell to the “Utility Support” Meta.
What we have now that’s really a signature since ever – is Portal Entre/Portal Exeunt (and don’t tell me you’re about to nerf this one too

…And… Alacrity? Alacrity that we cannot really use much because there might be better Utilities than our pathetic wells.
Speaking of Wells…. In fact we’ve lost a part of our “Mesmer Identity” when Well of Precognition became a Guardian-like skill. Bye Distortion! Hello Aegis

- Yay. 3 seconds of aegis that can be broken in ‘x’ attack as long as they don’t miss.
(In my perspective) – Well of Precognition was really a strong skill but a nerf to Distortion’s duration or a pulsing one probably would’ve done the work, not nerf Distortion and make it Aegis…?

Well, on the good side. At least we got that Cooldown reduction on our wells because we can’t really do much after we burst out what we ‘got’ because of our high cooldowns on skills (+ the Alacrity nerf). *in-doubt cringe
