Showing Posts For Foof.4761:
This may have been suggested before, but a forum search didn’t show anything.
Some renown hearts are vague regarding descriptions of what to kill/forage/repair/collect/etc. When I go wandering around trying to find what I should be killing, I inevitably wander out of the active area.
Hovering over a Renown Heart on the map should show an orange circle showing the active area (the area wherein you are still under the “effect” of the Renown Heart).
I’ve been searching and searching, and I can’t find anywhere that provides information regarding how ITEM LEVEL vs CHARACTER LEVEL affects armor bonuses while downleveling (PvE) and upleveling (WvW).
So, my question is, how are gear bonuses affected by Dynamic Level Adjustments?
TLDR Version: Does having outdated gear penalize you in dynamic leveling, or are your formulated stats simply based on your level, and not affected by the level or quality of your gear?
It seems there are two major theories / formulas.
THEORY 1: Flat adjustment based on CHARACTER LEVEL relative to ZONE LEVEL
All of your attributes are added up, and the final numbers are multiplied by a set value based on your level relative to the zone. This theoretically results in ALL high level characters being considerably stronger while downleveled than any appropriate level characters in the zone (See Example C).
Example A: If you’re CHAR LVL 50, and you are wearing GEAR LVL 50 blue “Hearty” gear, and zone into WvW, you’d be relatively similar to a CHAR LVL 80 in all blue GEAR LVL 80 “Hearty” gear.
Example B: If you’re CHAR LVL 50, and you are wearing GEAR LVL 40 blue “Hearty” gear, when you zone into WvW, you’d be relatively similar to a CHAR LVL 80 in all blue “Hearty” gear of a lower level (ie, GEAR LVL 70, or GEAR LVL 65, based on the values of the dynamic leveling formula).
Example C: If you’re CHAR LVL 50, and you are wearing GEAR LVL 40 blue “Hearty” gear, when you zone down into a ZONE LVL 10 area, you’d be relatively similar to a CHAR LVL 10 in all blue “Hearty” gear of a lower level (ie, GEAR LVL 15, or GEAR LVL 20, based on the values of the dynamic leveling formula).
THEORY 2: GEAR LEVEL relative to CHARACTER LEVEL relative to ZONE LEVEL
All of your attributes are based off the quality of your armor relative to your level. This theoretically results in most high level characters being considerably stronger while downleveled than any appropriate level characters in the zone, but players with outdated gear could be barely stronger, or even theoretically weaker, if the gear is outdated badly enough (See Example C).
Example C: If you’re CHAR LVL 50, and you are wearing GEAR LVL 40 blue “Hearty” gear, when you zone down into a ZONE LVL 10 area, you’d be relatively similar to a CHAR LVL 10 in all blue “Hearty” gear of a lower level (ie, GEAR LVL 1, or GEAR LVL 5, based on the values of the dynamic leveling formula).
I’ve looked all over, and I haven’t been able to find an existing poll for “Best Meta Event”. So, I created one.
This lists all of the 54 meta events, according to the official Wiki. If any others happen to be missing and need to be added, let me know.

This would be awesome, but I don’t think it would happen, at least not without some serious changes to the conjure weapons. They’re currently built for full-power all-or-nothing use. If they allowed you to blast their abilities, then swap back to your normal spells, they’d probably have to reduce their effectiveness.
Still, even if they nerfed them to implement this change, I’d be FAR more likely to use one or two of them as a utility skill.
I appreciate the feedback, Iselia. This supports the feel I have been getting as an S/D since level 1, and the reason why I spend most of my time just sitting in fire.
Some of the other posts I’ve been reading from self-proclaimed expert elementalists state that if you’re not attunement swapping every few seconds, you’re doing it wrong. If that is the case for S/D, I’d want to know it. I don’t want to be “that guy” in dungeons.
Edit: Apparently, “as_S/D” comes out “a kitten D”. Profanity filters ftw!
I’ve been a veteran top-tier raider in other MMO’s (raid leader for several server firsts back in my day) and this is my first character in GW2. I just hit 40, and up to now, I’ve been spending about 80% of my DPS time in fire, 15% in Air, and rarely ever using earth/water for DPS. I feel like this is probably a noob practice on my part, and I want to be able to maximize my gameplay.
Currently, I’ll only use water for emergency healing/kiting, then immediately switch back to fire or air. I’ll only use earth for AOE or additional might stacks (EQ/CE), then use #2 to stack a bunch of bleeds before promptly shifting back to fire/air.
I’m looking for advice from other skilled/experienced S/D Elementalists, specifically:
1. How often do you use earth/water for DPSing?
2. Any tips for DPS in water with S/D?
3. Any tips for DPS in earth with S/D?
4. Would it be worth it for me to carry and utilize another set of weapons for alternate skills or specific situations? I built for party support DPS through boons and AoE damage
@Stevoli.8795
I actually hadn’t thought of that. Not a half bad idea. THANKS!
I’ve looked around, and I can’t find any forum posts asking this (I’m sure thousands of people have asked the same question, so sorry for being repetitive).
— Where can I best preview dyes?
Obviously I can’t preview them off the TP. Are there any dye vendors in the game so I can preview a few and find a set of 3 colors that look good on my current armor? I don’t need to be able to preview ALL of the colors, but being able to preview SOME would be convenient. It seems really stupid to have to buy them blindly (by the “icon” color), only to test them and hate them (I’m not a completionist, or buying them blindly would sound like fun!)
I have a new PC coming via UPS, hopefully tomorrow. When I first downloaded GW2 on my laptop, it took 7 hours.
Is there any way to circumvent the long long download process?
- Can I just send the game folder from my laptop directly to my new PC?
- Can I download the “core” game client onto a flash drive tonight
Obviously.
To reiterate my original question, why would the blue quality item have more bonuses than the green item?
Fine Earring of Strength, level 30
11 Power
8 Precision
5 Power
2 Precision
(26 total attribute bonus)
Masterwork Earring of Strength, level 30
12 Power
5 Power
2 Precision
(19 total attribute points)
Is this pretty common for a FINE (blue) item to have better stats than a MASTERWORK (green), or is this an anomaly that only happens at certain levels while items go from 1 bonuses to 2, or from 2 bonuses to 3?
In my limited time in-game, I’ve found the easiest way for me to level lowbie alts is to work on full completion. Points of Interest, Waypoints, Vistas, etc tend to give hefty experience bonuses, and completion milestones give even larger ones.
Be sure to gather all the trade goods you come across for gathering exp and daily achievement bonuses. Also be sure to participate in every event you pass by. I’ll rarely pass an event in progress, as they usually tend to get swarmed and completed within a couple minutes, and award fairly massive amounts of experience, karma, and coin.
I’ll start in my race area, clear everything until mobs start getting a little challenging (usually around 10-15), then hop over to a secondary race area (norn is my favorite for leveling alts). I’ll full-clear 100% the secondary race area, then go back to my primary race area and full-clear that while working my storyline. This should get you to 20 pretty effortlessly. From there, select any 15+ zone and grind away, or clear out the other race starter zones if you want super easy mode.
