In my opinion, the potential for GW2 is withering

I disagree with your points made. How many content upgrades did Prophecies have when it was six months old? What did they get? Sorrow’s Furnace? FoTM absolutely was better than that.

Sorrow’s Furnace is by far my favourite GW content across any of the games or expansions. If they had come up with something like that for GW2 then maybe I would have logged in since… hell, I can’t even remember when.

I’ve done a fair amount, but it’s spread between alts with no one over about 60%. I have a hard time working up the motivation to re-do some of the zones I find particularly tedious (e.g. Fireheart Rise).

What kinds of things do you miss from GW 1?

I miss the skill system, and secondary professions in particular. And armour sets which I actually like the look of (seriously, there isn’t a single high-end set I covet in GW2).
And I miss Trahearne not existing. He is seriously impairing my motivation to replay the main storyline.

Lack of communication during holidays

This seems to happen with most MMOs, at least the one’s I’ve experienced, where devs might be relatively chatty and communicative during beta but as soon as the game is launched the shutters come down. I get the impression it’s some sort of corporate policy, that employees mustn’t be allowed to engage with customers unless they’re on some sort of approved PR list. Maybe it’s to prevent them accidentally making promises they can’t keep etc. Sometimes they give the impression that they don’t want to interfere with the “community”, as if they’re making some sort of nature documentary.

Either way it’s a bad call. If they want to give the impression they don’t care about the game, outside of churning out worthless holiday content transparently designed to drive gem sales, then they’re doing a great job.

event difficulties

The one that drives me nuts every time is the respawning. There’s really no excuse to have enemies you’ve killed respawn within a single iteration of an event. If the event is left half-done and someone comes along later and finishes it off, so what?

When you’re carefully working through a “X remaining whatevers” event, and the number actually begins to increase when you thought you were almost done, it’s really quite pathetic. And before some “pro” comes along with the inevitable “Duh, more DPS” argument, there are better ways to require DPS. Respawning enemies is a cheap and lazy alternative to more sophisticated AI and encounter dynamics which people have been crying out for for months.

The dual wasp champ event is another I’ve done solo, or at least used a strat that would allow me to fight indefinitely as other people turned up eventually.

Then you didn’t do it solo, did you?

Maybe it’s because their priorities are being skewed by an ultra-reactionary community.

Their priorities are being skewed by RMT.

Why I'm never bothering with FotM again

My attitude is if, or rather when, the ascended/infused gear becomes crucial for content outside of FotM (and ignoring PvP in my case since that’s not my thing) then they will inevitably introduce other means of acquiring it. I can see the issues that will cause already, “wahhh I did nothing but grind FotM for months and now some noob is getting equivalent gear from world boss chests waaahhh”, but that’s a whole other story.
In other words, I’ll just wait it out. That’s the beauty of not paying a sub.

If I was Mr Foreman I would add a Hard Mode for the “pros” which was actually impossible (but only just), and then taunt them by posting things like “keep at it, I designed it and I’ve only completed it twice!” or “this was only intended to be beaten by the top 0.001% of players” etc. And make it longer, hell perhaps even make it procedurally generated so that it goes on forever. And have an entry fee. And a single chest at the top with a chance of getting a unique legendary weapon skin (but only a miniscule chance, as per standard GW design guidelines).

At least that would keep them busy and out of forum threads which clearly aren’t intended for them (the clue’s in the subject).

I had a few goes before I gave up, and it doesn’t bother me at all that passed on it. Although it’s funny coming here and seeing all the people who have completed it being defensive and criticising all the “QQing”, of which there is none if you had actually bothered to read the posts. No one who gave up cares that you completed it.

I actually really like the jumping puzzles in general but the timed element puts me off this one. And not in the same way as Spekk’s, which I had fun with, it’s more like the way I wasn’t a fan of the timed master mission bonuses in Factions. Personally I’m more of a fan of the JPs which are like mini dungeons, like Loreclaw Expanse. More of those, please.

@All those wanting separate changes:
Do you really think they’d make 3 different skill sets? That’s what you would need. They aren’t just balancing for PvE and PvP. They’re balancing for PvE, PvP, and WvW. GW1 was also balanced differently between PvE and PvP because of the sheer number of skills they had to balance. GW2 should be easier for them to balance even keeping one set of skills for everything.

This makes absolutely no sense. So they successfully decoupled PvP and PvE skills in a game which has many, many more skills available, but it’s impractical for them to do the same in GW2? And the fact that there are now 3 different contexts for those skills instead of 2 means it’s easier to successfully balance all skills for all classes across all 3 rather than tune them separately?

There really is no reason why they couldn’t, or shouldn’t, separate PvE/PvP/WvW skills. As others have pointed out, it’s one of several steps backwards taken in this game compared with its predecessor.

I’ve done this event maybe half a dozen times and I’ve yet to be present when it completes, because I’m always running back from a waypoint at the time. Although I don’t think I’ve ever not had a gold reward from it.

If you found it easy, that’s luck not skill. Luck that there were enough people around who didn’t spend the entire thing dead on the bridge. Especially if you’re coming back to it with your inadequately down-levelled 80 character, probably with your guildies. Otherwise show me a video of you beating it single-handed on your genuinely level 14/15 character (with enough dead people sitting around to keep the ember count up) and I’ll happily admit you have mad skillz. After all, it’s easy, right?

This is an open world event in a starter zone. Nothing in any of the other starter zones even comes close. There is a valid argument for exposing players to this sort of difficulty, but a level 1-15 zone is not the place for it.

Last time I brought a friend along to show them how absurd it was, even explaining the basic tactics, and half way through his response was “yeah, I’m out”. Power players can stick to their explore mode dungeons, all the fire elemental does is annoy regular players at a critical point in their GW2 levelling experience (in terms of whether they can actually be bothered to keep playing the game if that’s indicative of what’s still to come).

Although, I have a screenshot in which I counted (I think) 14 AoE circles scattered around my corpse which I’m quite proud of. Oh, and the knock-down extends about a foot outside the red circles, which is my pet hate about this event.

“These go to 11.”
