My immediate reaction to the nerf was to switch from full dire shout tanking to vipers/givers combo, scepter dagger and stack the everloving kitten out of bleeds and max my duration.
Is it optimal? Not exactly, but running any sort of condi tank without chill damage, given that tank builds (at least mine) were for condi pressure and draining health while maintaining survivability is near on impossible now, cause the damage output just isn’t high enough.
In the end I get leeched out instead of the other way around and have basically just become a scary looking punching bag.
At least with a Viper’s Giver build I get minimum 20 second bleeds and minimum 8 1/2 second bleeds with Scepter AA plus 100% crits in shroud but maintaining bleed stacks is almost impossible with the super cleansing ele/druid brigade running around.
Sure in PVE I can stack and maintain up to 24 stacks fairly effortlessly with good rotation but that’s against a target that doesn’t have the sense to cleanse or just outright can’t.
A lot of people here have said it in far more effective ways, I guess I’m just voicing my own version of it but yeah, the damage nerf is total kittenery and the math is only viable in optimal combat situations against either stationary or mentally kittened targets.
Thank god I’m not the only one kittened about this, I also posted about it just now under my original bug post.
OK so I’m kind of curious about this bug because I’ve asked a number of players that claim this has been around since launch and still hasn’t been fixed or even addressed.
During any mode of gameplay usually after consecutive dodges or Reapers Deaths Charge (of note, this bug is not exclusive to Reapers) or even a combination of the two, I find myself completely locked up unable to move in any direction at all until my evade bar charges to a point where I can evade again to break the lockdown.
I’m not afflicted with any conditions that hinder movement, I’ve had players from EU and US as well as Australia (my home) report the same issue when I quiz them on it so the issue isn’t lag or ping either.
This is an insanely infuriating bug since it happens very frequently and will most often happen during an important conflict either in WvW, PvP or in boss fights and can cost you the fight in the blink of an eye, especially against other players.
Again this is happens regardless of class as I’ve tested it on every available class in the game.
It’s a pretty serious issue and I can’t understand why it’s gone unresolved for so long.
Also worth mentioning is Death’s Charge, which has serious aiming issues. I’m supposed to be able to auto home in on a given target on the premise that I’m locked on and they haven’t broken line of sight via some form of stealth or evade, more often than not (like at least 70% of the time) I’m launched off in some random direction or I don’t gain any ground whatsoever. Reeeeally bad when I’m trying to close gaps.
This is a bit of a late addition to the thread but forgive me if I’m mistaken, you can’t have both Death Perception (50% crit chance) and Dhuumfire in one line, you can only take either/or.
Death Perception and Dhuumfire are both in Soul Reaping not Reaper, of which the only crit stacking effect is Decimate Defenses.
I’ve tested out various aspects of Reaper from Power oriented, Condi oriented and Tank to balances between the three, currently testing out a Tank-Condi build through Trailblazers and so far I’m pretty impressed.
Frailty in WVW particularly was always an issue for me from the perspective that you just know when you start loosing off conditions that every person in the enemy’s team is now gunning for your head, so I’ve circumvented it by running the highest defense build I can muster while popping condis everywhere I can.
This is kind of a build/strat breakdown to show how I approach a fight.
Staff, Scepter/Focus.
Consume Conditions, Rise, Suffer, Signet Of Spite, Chilled to the Bone/Plague Form interchangeable.
Lastability and conditions are where the Reaper/Necro has always shined (imo) so toughness and condi seem like the best choice.
Runes of the Undead gets 7% of your toughness and boosts it into condi damage, Trailblazers gets you expertise for a little extra pressure.
Sigil of Leeching and Doom (always on scepter), Sigil of Corruption, Sigil of Bursting (combined with the runes puts an extra 13% on your current condi output).
Staff, I don’t see how anyone can pass this up really, Putrid Mark combined with Suffer almost guarantees you’re virtually condi free 90% of the time (since condi is basically the lifeblood of the current meta) and you always have Consume Condi’s as backup for the cooldown periods (never forget your Unblockable Marks trait guys, you’ll need it for Mesmers especially to transfer their conditions).
Scepter and Focus cause condi for days, you have to make up for that loss of power so condi pressure is the way to do that.
Start on your Staff with Reaper’s Mark to fear them a little and give you enough time to switch weaps to trigger your sigils, open Scepter/Focus with Spinal Shivers to continue to slow them down, bearing in mind that you can also inflict 8 sec of poison thanks to Sigil of Doom, follow with skill 4 (I forget the name, Reapers Touch?) to smash out vulnerability, Skill 2 to start the bleed process and cripple if your initial chill is running down to ensure they keep losing mobility then FOC to stack on the torment.
By this point they’re probably going to use Cleansing Fire or something to that effect so as soon as they do, launch off the Signet of Spite and Suffer then start ripping off any boons with autos while re-stacking Bleed and Poison.
The bonus of this is that in team situations you’re always in a position to support your fellow tanks and heavy hitters by keeping condi pressure on your opponents.
I can’t count the amount of times we’ve come out ontop in a defense heavy situation by laying condis all over the show (since most groups I’ve noticed, tend to disperse to deal with conditions) to give my team the opening it needs to go down while they’re on the run and wipe them out.
1v1 you’ll need to play smart and keep those condi stacks up cause you don’t have much in the way of power and virtually no crit to fall back on.
Side-note, Death Magic is a biggie in boosting your defense outright with Corrupter’s Fervor and Flesh of the Master I think it is, boosting “Rise” to ensure you get the most out of that one minion skill (50% damage reduction on a Tank build is just obscene, but so much fun).
I’m still testing and tweaking, I’ve also made another Reaper to try out a few might/crit builds just to hop onto the more aggressive side of the scale.
What can I say? I love the versatility this class offers ^^
Since the last update only two days ago I think it was? I’ve had massive drops in fps and bouncy lag as well, is anyone else having this issue and does anyone know if Anet are sorting it?
It’s been playing fine since I started my GW2 account about 4 months ago and it was only on the last update that everything suddenly went screwy, I even migrated to the EU servers from NA just to see if that was the cause but to no effect.
Seemingly there’s a fair few people this is happening to so I really hope Anet jumps on this immediately cause 7to 11 fps is pretty much making the game unplayable for me, I don’t even want to think of what it would be like if I actually attempted a world boss event.
I attempted a client repair as well and even checked my drivers just to be certain, but to no avail. The computer is only about 4 months old itself and the performance drop is nowhere else.
Has anyone come up with a solution or know if Anet are even aware of the issue and if they’re actively trying to fix it?
Needless to say having just recently shelled out $90 to get HOT as well, I’m going to be pretty p!ssed off if this issue goes unresolved cause it’s rendering the game unplayable.
Quick edit: I started my account on the EU servers, migrated a month ago to NA, both servers I’ve played on were absolutely fine in terms of no lag/fps issues, I’ve never had a problem with lag at all until this recent update.

Nope, Client repair didn’t work so whatever they’ve done is server side, has to be.

Yeah same thing is happening to me, ever since the last update my fps has shot to hell and I’m experiencing what I can only call “player only lag” where every action of mine has massive lag but the enemies are still capable of full speed and action.
I dunno what they did but I hope like hell they fix it soon.
I also just logged in and went to Divinity’s Reach only to get hit with around 7fps. It’s that bad, salvaging equipment has lag.
I’m running a client repair now to see if that has any effect whatsoever, I’ll post an update if it does.
Hey guys! Long time GW player, new to the forums, I was wondering if you guys could help me out with something.
I seem to be frequently encountering an issue regarding moving my character (general movement, walking, running etc) whereby she will stop moving altogether as if locked down similar to bind.
Now it’s important that I point out because some people may think I’m being affected by a random status that hinders motion, chill, bind, frozen and so on but this is not the case at all.
I will simply be running across Tyria/Maguuma or engaged in combat with an enemy and usually after a dodge or a quick change in direction I find I’m suddenly locked in place unable to move for at least 2-3 seconds, usually requiring that I dodge again to gain any motion back.
It can even happen when using moves that usually traverse large distances, I’m a Reaper class and skill 2 in Reaper shroud sends you flying forward towards your intended target, but I regularly use this skill only to go nowhere, performing the move locked in place.
Has anyone else encountered this? I know my partner says she also has this happen, using her Ele/thief/Mes.
I’ll restate again I’ve been VERY careful to check that I’m not afflicted by any status affect at all during the course of this taking place.
It most regularly happens during combat or during fast combinations of motion.
It can be a pain because there have been a number of occasions it caused me to get smashed as a result of not being able to stay in motion.
It also affects all modes of play, PVE, PVP, WVW makes no difference.
